It was not until after Ilia had confirmed the status of her ship, that all crew had called out to her, and that several minutes of real time had passed that She finally ordered the PCL disabled. The chill that came with having disconnecting with all the minds of her crew gave her a shudder, but she shook it off and immediatly made her way to her quarters.
She needed to make a lengthy report to the Knadan about the Cryo engagement. The strength of those Psionic entities was not to be underestimated, and they needed a review of the information they had regarding Aschen sentiment towards non secular species.
They had been told that, by all measures applicable, the Aschen were Racist, xenophobic, and hostile to the use of, and anyone who made use of, psionics and magic. Her contact with the Entity had been enough to confirm it's species, and it was most definitely not hominid. "So much for Xenophobic and Anti Psionic. We'll have to reevaluate probabilities now." She said out loud, more to destress than for any actual person.
She began filing her report and sent it via Shadowmessage to the Knadan. Almost immediatly after, she received a response.
And her eyes went wide with shock.
The message she received told her about how the Aschen had kidnapped the princess, and publicly broadcast her torture, threatening her life if their enemy didn't pull back their forces.
The sheer audacity was enough to cause Ilia to pause for several Microcycles, after which she rapidly began to process the information.
On the one hand, the fact that they had gone to such lengths could suggest that their pressure on their forces had been having the desired effect. The other hand however was bleak and wretched.
The statement that they had taken down Tolend, she was inclined not to believe it. For that reason alone she began to doubt they actually had the princess in custody. That girl could be anyone, and to think that the Aschen had not begun gathering intelligence on the kingdom, enough to know who to target as far as infrastructure went, was a foolish line of thought that no self respecting commander would follow. With that in mind, The "princess" could be a fraud, and this was merely an attempt to buy time.
Normally this would be a clear conclusion to the matter, except that the princess had gone missing. The message made it clear that she had last been seen at some space station, and had disappeared shortly after the arrival of Aschen vessels. The crew that had flown the ship there was even now under siege, having locked down their vessel. According to the message she received, they had lost contact with the princess, and another Aschen vessel that had been present, had pulled out shortly after a boarding action.
Ilia chewed her thumb as her mind raced, appraising every possibility and scenario, cataloging them by likelihood, and determining outcomes. She sent a response to the shadowmessage, and then reached out to her Helm. Return us to Baleon Orta. We need repairs anyway, and to get our wounded proper treatment.
The Helm obeyed, and began charting a series of jumps to return to their home galaxy. As they did this, She glared out into the void. "Don't think you've won just because you pulled a dirty trick. You've bought yourself a few weeks at best, and when the hammer falls, it'll be all the harder for it." She said aloud, again to no one in particular.
