At least the apartment wasn't that bad.

Jay never agreed to this, in fact his father tried everything to get Jay excused from the GSA's senior program. However, the school responded with the proposition that if Jay evaded the experience they would have to eject him from the baseball team. That was a rough night, it was never a good night when his father came home angry. According to Nathan Castle he didn't want his son living with 'those' kinds of people, Jay flinched at the comment. It was small, but it was there.

Jay had always known he wasn't like the other boys, and it was when he met Gabriel that he came out of his shell for once and into the charming boy man he is today. He was almost confident to come out to his family, until everything went wrong. Gabe came out and his father forbade Jay from ever even talking to him again. It was such a hard thing for him to do, Gabe and him were close and it broke him for a long time. The two hadn't talked in forever. He got the point from then that if he ever revealed his true feelings his father would either beat him senseless, disown him, or both. It wouldn't be the first time his father had thrown a punch at him.

When the GSA first announced their program, there was definitely an array of mixed opinions. He wasn't as vocal about his distaste of the program than some of his friends, if anything he was nervous. He should be on the other side of this program, but no one can find out. So he stayed rather quiet about it, aimlessly nodding his head to agree with his friends when they were complaining about it. The whole ordeal made him anxious. For him it was just entirely too risky, he hoped for just a quiet person that he didn't have to interact much with. One that would just leave him be, and he'd do the same.

__________

The neighboring college had lent the high school some of their apartments for the students to use. The lady at the welcome desk gave him his room key and helped him down the hall and around the corner to room 112. He inserted the room key into the door and pushed it open with his shoulder making his way into his new home for a bit. The apartment was nice, very nice. Yet, he wasn't surprised his school had a rather large budget and the college was a huge supporter of the idea of the program, so no wonder they hooked them up with the best. Maybe this won't be as mortifying as I think... He quietly peeked into the other rooms and inferred that his new 'roommate' hadn't been here yet, he was still deciding whether or not that was a good or bad thing. At least he got first pick in rooms, in which he decided to go for the room on the far right as it had a nice view into the park that sat next to the college. He placed his suitcase on the bed and slipped off his shoes wandering into the living room of the apartment and plopped himself down on the couch. Now it was simply a waiting game, and it made him more anxious than ever. He made himself comfortable and slipped out his phone scrolling through various social media to try and distract himself from the anticipation and nervousness. He had a feeling in his stomach, and he didn't know if it was from being anxious or that he had a bad feeling about who was going to walk through that door.

Honestly, Gabriel never wanted to do this. His mother, however, insisted, as it would help him get to know another senior. But Gabriel honestly didn't want to, he preferred staying in the background, he had zero problems with being ignored. It meant nobody was going to bully him or comment on his personal choices. He would reach for his bag with all of his clothes, that he liked, some personal toiletries, and his collection of guitar picks. On his back would be his guitar in it's own case.

Needless to say, he wasn't exactly happy about the GSA's little senior experience. But he did need the grade for his economics class, which he was failing miserably. He wasn't exactly good at following along in class, simply because it was never a subject interested him. So when the GSA gave them this alternative for the entirety of senior year, he was more than grateful.

He was dearly hoping he wouldn't be stuck with the one person he knew he couldn't be alone with. The one person who could possibly ruin Gabriel's life. Ignoring his own worries, he would walk up the driveway, turning back to hopefully see his siblings saying he could come back. However he wasn't that lucky. His mother and siblings shut the doors to the car and drove away. Without as much as a goodbye, his dark brown eyes stared towards the door ahead. Anxiety would fill the brunet's heart, his breathing would be slowly quickening in pace, as he walked towards the door. He would then open the door before him, and in an almost inaudible voice would speak.

"Fuck."

Jay Castle. Jay Fucking Castle, out of the douchebags and people he had stopped being friends with. It had to be the one person, he knew he still yearned for the late night conversations. He stared directly ahead of him, and would simply stand there mentally repeat the word fuck. Whatever god was in the world, he really had a fucked up joke planned for Gabe.

Jay's phone was constantly pinging with messages from the team group chat. His friends had already received their roommates and none of them were happy about it:

Jake
I got paired with fucking George Bruner. So happy to spend an entire semester with a damn loser. Can we petition to have a straight program? I'd love to get paired with Sarah Brooks.

Derek
I think it's stupid they were gonna kick us off the team. That's some bullshit right there, just because Pete beat up some nobody we have the SJW breathing down our backs.

Jay was about to type out a reply when the door opened suddenly and he focused his eyes on the person he was going to be spending a while with. Unfortunately the eyes he was staring into were all to familiar, the dark orbs he used to see nearly every day.

Gabriel Shurman.

No no no no. This isn't right. This is a mistake. God Damnit this was not supposed to happen. He took a nervous shaky inhale and clasped his hands together to keep them from shaking. He couldn't do this, it brought back too many awful memories... but a lot of good ones too. His head hurt from trying to wrap his mind around his ex best friend standing in front of him. Jay hadn't left them on good terms, in fact he'd say they were on rather shitty terms at the moment. There had to be some way to switch roommates, he had to. It was hard to even look Gabe in the eyes after the ugly breakup in friendship they had. Yet, there was some part of him that reached out to the boy standing in front of him.

The awkwardness and tension was almost visible between the two and Jay knew he couldn't stand the silence much longer. If only his father knew who he had been paired with, he would be surely dead. He opened his mouth to speak but the only word that escaped his mouth was "Gabriel." His voice came out rather blunt but there was a small shakiness to it, rather undetectable. He knew there was no way he was going to try to rekindle anything with Gabe, he couldn't, it would only hurt the both of them. He clenched his jaw and his nose crinkled slightly (a nervous tick of his). "I'm sure this... this is some misunderstanding." To him that was the only logical explanation, he didn't really believe in coincidences or any of the fate bs. The lady at the front desk had to have given him the wrong key, that was it.

"Gabriel."

That was all that mattered to Gabe at the moment, he knew definitely they weren't exactly friends. But calling him Gabriel? That hurt the brunet more than anything. His chocolate brown eyes would stare towards the male, his face a whole confusion of emotions. "It isn't I have the same key as you..." he paused hanging the key in front of him. His hands visibly shaking. He looked away, placing the key in his pocket. He looked away, he was feeling like this was a bad idea. This was definitely the worst thing, aside from him and his father's conversation the morning before.

The youngest Shurley child, would clench his fists angrily, and shut his eyes. "Maybe we should just try our best to avoid each other, unless the part of the assignment needs us to interact, I wouldn't want my gayness to affect the school's star player." The boy spoke with a simple venom in his tone, as he walked to the room, he assumed was unclaimed and shut the door. He stood against the back of the door, his heart beating. He would quickly take out his phone and begin typing, seeing messages while he was busy staring at the male he swore he didn't care for.

Bishrexual to The Best Gays of Washington High
lmao yall r fucked got paired with douche prince III.

GayGuitarBoy to The Best Gays of Washington High
YEAH! I JUST GOT FUCKING PAIRED WITH HIS BESTIE. THIS IS NOT HOW I PLANNED MY FUCKING SENIOR YEAR TO GO!

MamaKade to the Best Gays of Washington
My poor senior babies, have fun bitches <3. Try talking to dickbug number one, you never know Gabe.

Leave it to Kade to give him the worst surprise, but infact....she wasn't wrong. He could attempt to be civil, maybe even figure out why their friendship really ended. The male would walk out to where he was originally and stand in front of him. "Look, you and I both don't like each other. But we both need this grade, or we wouldn't be here. So, we need to get along. Not saying we should be friends or shit, but we simply need to get along. So let me lay down some rules with you. I don't care who you sleep with, just do not bring them here. Don't bring your friends over, and I'm not going to bring mine over. Just don't be stupid okay? No mental games no shit like that. Just try to withhold your disdain for a fag like me at bay and I'll keep mine at bay."

Part of Gabriel felt as if the first part was a simple lie, but letting out that burst of anger and disdain seemed to calm him.

Jay watched Gabe hold up the room key his stomach sinking to the floor. "I have the same key as you". So it was true, they were roommates and he was sure there was no way he was getting out of it. This is going to be hell, utter hell. Jay opened his mouth to comment when Gabriel spoke first, "Maybe we should just try our best to avoid each other, unless the part of the assignment needs us to interact, I wouldn't want my gayness to affect the school's star player." Before Jay even had time to respond to the jab the boy turned and shut himself in the room.

Jay stood there in utter shock for a moment the sting of the comment still setting in. He really really fucked up with Gabe and clearly he hadn't forgotten. Still, Jay was pissed at the entire situation, at everything, Gabe included. "Nice to see you again too! Just as fucking cheery as I remembered." He shot back curtly, loud enough for Gabe to hear behind the door. He grabbed his phone off the couch rather aggressively, and was ready to unpack, he wasn't going to deal with this right now.

As he stalked off to his side of the room he heard the door open again as Gabe came back out. Jay gave him a rather icy look as Gabe laid down the ground rules. "Look, you and I both don't like each other. But we both need this grade, or we wouldn't be here. So, we need to get along. Not saying we should be friends or shit, but we simply need to get along. I don't care who you sleep with, just do not bring them here. Don't bring your friends over, and I'm not going to bring mine over. Just try to withhold your disdain for a fag like me at bay and I'll keep mine at bay." This really pissed him off, he hated being bossed around and especially in this situation.

Jay raised an eyebrow and clenched his teeth "Oh, sounds great Shurley. Might as well draw a fucking line down the middle of the apartment and label our sides. Via that classy introduction of yours I'm sure we're gonna get along just fine. I'll make sure to stay out of your damn way". With that he turned and stormed off into his room promptly closing and locking the door.

He instantly fell down onto the bed and clenched a fist punching into the soft sheets. "Damnit"
he muttered angrily and took out his phone sending a text to another one of his friends. He had to throw his attention into something else, he didn't think he was capable of surviving another minute with Gabe. The worst part, he doesn't know. That the 'star football player' was gay himself. That his father gave him a black eye and a bloody lip for wanting to stay friends with Gabriel. That's what really killed Jay deep down, that in Gabriel's eyes he had every right in the world to hate him.

He didn't want to think anymore about it. He had repressed those thoughts and feelings for years, he could do it some more. Distraction. I need a distraction.

Jay
hey, what are you up to tonight?

Heather
Jess is having a party tonight. :) Please tell me you're coming.

Jay
I'll see you there :)

Gabriel would walk to his room and slam the door, with a loud scream heard throughout the apartment. He would flop onto his bed and scream again. He hated this. He hated himself. He hated Jay. He knew he shouldn't have yelled at him like that. But he had so much pent up anger towards the boy, but it would honestly hurt his pride if he even attempted to apologize to Jay. He would feel his phone vibrate on his leg.

Bishrexual to the Best Gays of Washington High
So, goes it with ur prince charming, mine is heading 2 a party so im finally blessed.

GayGuitarBoy to the Best Gays of Washington High
Not good, I just screamed at him, it was not very nice. But I just have so much pent-up anger.

MamaKade to the Best Gays of Washington High
I can understand, but how did this happen? In middle school you guys were like best friend goals.

GayGuitarBoy to the Best Gays of Washington High
yeah.....*sighs* Our fathers worked together, and we spent a lot of time over at each other's house. So we got extremely close, we were inseparable. Until I ended up coming out in middle school. So he just sort of distanced himself, and anytime we saw each other, he'd just be different.

After typing that, Gabriel somewhat felt angrier than before. He was the one who had a right to be angry with Jay, not the other way around. Jay was the one who hurt him, who basically dropped him like he was nothing. The whole thing was fucked up to Gabriel. He would look towards his guitar and take it out of the case reach into his pocket to pick out his lucky pick. Getting in a comfortable position he would begin to play the instrumental to a song, that repetitively rang in his head.

"This is going to be very fucking great."

Jay flinched at the door slamming and Gabe's frustrated scream. God, its been like 15 minutes and we're already at each others throats. This is a nightmare. He groaned and leaned back into the bed pinching the bridge of his nose to try and alleviate some of the headache that was currently pounding in his head. He layed there for a while aimlessly staring up at the ceiling trying to clear his mind and calm down the thousands of emotions that were running through his head. They were both better than this, he knew that. However, there was three years of bad shit between them and he wasn't surprised it was all beginning to come out.

His phone vibrated on the bed and he slowly picked it up gazing at the screen.

Jake to the Timber Wolves
better see you at Jess's house boys, tonight we get fucked up

Vince to the Timber Wolves
trying to set a new record for how many times you vomit in a night?

Jake to the Timber Wolves
haha very funny asshole

Jay to the Timber Wolves
I'll be there, need to get my mind off this program shit

He tossed his phone back on the bed and checked his watch, he had maybe an hour before he needed to be there. He managed to finally get off the bed and wander into the bathroom, taking a hard look at his pitiful reflection. He looked tired. His eyes were darker and his face was grayer. Maybe I just need a long shower. As he began to slip off his shirt he heard the strumming of a guitar through the walls and paused. It was quite a mellow and laid back tune and Jay actually caught himself smiling. He remembered the days when Gabe was struggling to learn guitar and would 'force' Jay to sit and watch him play. The boy had potential, a lot of it, and it felt nice just to hear him playing the guitar again.

His phone buzzed from his bedroom and it brought him back to the present, he quickly hopped into the shower and took quite a long time soaking in the heat. It was a well-needed shower, maybe it didn't make him feel better about his situation but he didn't feel as tired as before. He rummaged through his clothes and found a suitable outfit to wear. His hair was still damp and curly as he slipped his phone and room key into his pocket and threw on a jacket.

He cautiously peeked out the door to see if Gabe had somehow made his way back into the living room but it was empty and quiet, Gabe's door was still shut. He quietly made his way to the door and hesitated for a moment. Should I tell him where I'm going? Wait, no what are you thinking, he doesn't give a shit what I do. He shook his head slightly and left the apartment not caring if Gabe heard the door shut or not.

Hearing the door shut, Gabriel knew Jay had left. Obviously, to the party Oliver mentioned in the group chat, he continued to play the guitar fondly remembering him learning how to play it. He remembered how he couldn't get the notes right, at all, so he forced Jay to sit down and help him. They watched countless YouTube videoes, until Gabriel finally denied hte pride he had, and asked his mother for help. He remembered how he told Jay, that when he was famous they'd live in a big ass house, with babes at every side and twenty cars each. Because that's how famous Gabriel would be.

His phone would begin to ring, pulling him out of his thoughts. Seeing Oliver message him seemed to make him angry. Out of anything, he was secretly hoping Jay messaged him letting him know he was gone. But why? It's not like Gabriel cared about where the male ended up.

Bishrexual to the Best Gays of Washington High
whoa dude, tht sound painful. u wnt some drinks tho? bc i got a shit ton

GayGuitarBoy to the Best Gays of Washington High
No, I'm not leaving my apartment tonight. I guess I should be here incase he comes home bleeding or something, that would ruin my grade if he died.

The next thirty minutes would involve Gabriel looking for Jay's phone number or some way to contact him. He absolutely hated the boy, but if he ended up drinking and driving, Gabriel wouldn't really feel good about that. His brown eyes hovered over the number, and would begin to type several messages, but erased them all. Finally he decided on one.

To Asshole:
MSG: hey, you're still an asshole. but if you need a ride home from wherever you went, txt me don't want you to crash and die. i might lose the grade.

Okay. That was harsh. But they weren't friends anymore. Gabriel actively ignored the part that wanted them to. But they weren't friends, no need to tell him because he was worried. Which he wasn't. At all.

Jess's house was rather close to the apartment and very nice. Her father was a doctor in town and to his convience was on a France vacation with his wife. The moment Jay rolled up to the curb of the house he could hear the thumping of the bass all the way from his car. As he was getting out of his car his phone buzzed in his pocket and it was a number he didn't recognize. He opened the message and realized that it was Gabriel. Odd. After his entire talk about wanting to stay out of Jay's life he was surprised that the boy had offered him a ride. He stared at the bright screen for a moment before rolling his eyes and shoving it back into his pocket as he approached the house, there was no way the offer was genuine. It couldn't be.

As he entered the house he was instantly thrown into a mass of crowded teenagers dancing, chatting, drinking, a typical party. As he weaved through the bodies he heard someone call his name and he turned to see his friends crowded around one of the couches. "Ay! There he is, the man himself. What took you so long Castle?" It was Jake, a notorious asshole known throughout the school but Jay actually found him to be quite funny. The boys bumped fists and Jake took a drink from his traditional red solo cup. Jake must've noticed Jay's gaze and laughed, "Jess always has the good shit. Her parents are dumb enough to leave the liquor cellar unlocked. Come on go get yourself some". "Eh, I don't know guys, I'm not sure I should be drinking tonight" Jake rolled his eyes and stood up giving Jay a little nudge in the chest. "Cut the shit Castle, didn't you want to get your mind off the stupid program? Well there you go"[/color] He gave him a smirk and nodded to Derek to go get Jay a drink. "I mean... I guess tomorrow is Saturday, but don't let me do anything too stupid." Jake clapped his hands together and smacked him in the shoulder, "There he is!" By that time Derek had returned with a cup full of some unknown liquid in which Jay promptly took a small drink his face instantly scrunching up. "Holy hell! What is this? It tastes like rubbing alcohol" The other boys snickered and Jake grinned, "Come on Jay, live on the edge". Jay laughed rolling his eyes at him "You are so full of shit Pennington" Jake bowed in a grand fashion and smiled, "It's my specialty".

_________

Everything after that was pretty hazy. Whatever was in the drink was hella strong and Jay wasn't the only one with a misguided judgment. Everyone in that house seemed a little more than just impaired. However, he had a pretty high strung day and it felt nice to just relax and not have to worry. He danced with quite a few strangers, or maybe more than few, he couldn't remember. After a while he found himself back with Jake and his other friends in the kitchen. He don't know how it happened, or how it was brought up. He just know Jake started it.

"Hey Castle, whosit you got paired with again?" Jake slurred leaning against the island in the kitchen. It took him a moment to wrap his head around the question, God I drank to much, I'm going to have one hell of a hangover in the morning. "Shurley. Gabs Shurley" Jake's face slipped into surprised/amused expression. "No way, Shurley? Isn't he that loser that you used to be friends with?" Jay shook his head slightly his comment coming out quite softly which prompted Jake to lean closer, "What?"

"I said don't call him that"

Jake scoffed, raising an eyebrow, "What the fuck? Guys I think Jay drank a little too much tonight. Whatever Jess's parents had in their cellar must be pretty damn strong, now they have Jay sympathizing with a fag". Jay instantly sprang into Jake's face his own slightly red from alcohol and anger, "Don't fucking call him that". "Dude what the hell is wrong with you? Get out of my face" Jake said now confused and angry himself. Jay stood his ground and narrowed his eyes, "Apologize. Now." Jake glared at him, not backing down either, "No. I'm not going to waste my breath apologizing for a fag".

Jay punched him right in the face. It was an impulsive dumbass move... but it was one hell of a punch. Jake stumbled back into the counter clutching the right side of his face and looked up half shocked and half pissed. "Oh now you're going to get it Castle" Jake lunged at Jay and got in a nice hit right on the left side of his face. Instantly stars bloomed in his vision and his face started to throb with a sharp pain. What happened next was a little bit of a blur but when it was finally finished both boys were bloodied and bruised, held back from each other by their friends. The others looked at Jay in utter shock, Derek was the first to speak up, "Dude. What the hell is wrong with you?" Jay wriggled out of his friends grip and stumbled to the doorway of the kitchen, "I- I'm sorry I have to go" He didn't even look at their reactions as he stumbled out of the kitchen, getting a couple odd looks from some of the other party goers. He managed to make it outside and stopped at the porch steps. His head and face throbbed, and everything was still fuzzy from the alcohol. When he brought his hand up to his face it came back bloody. "Shit" He couldn't drive.

He quickly pulled out his phone and scrolled through his contacts. He couldn't call his parents, or his friends, but he could call... No, I can't. After a few moments, however, he realized he had no other choice. He quickly dialed the number and waited till he heard the other side click. "G- Gabe? Hey, could you... uhm come and uh get me... I'm at 6432 W Forest Drive. I- uh... I'm... could you just come... please" His voice was a lot softer and more sad than normal. He didn't even realize that he had called him Gabe.

While on a threeway call with his friends, he saw a rather familiar number in his phone begin to ring. "Hold on guys, dick face is calling me. I think I need to take this," the male would speak to the other two, before switching over to the call hearing Jay's somewhat pleading voice. Was he hearing things or did Jay just call him Gabe? He would shake his head before beginning to speak. "U-Um yeah, gimme a sec alright? Please be careful?," the male spoke, before quickly switching the calls. "Ollie, I know this is short notice, but I'm using my key to your car. I need to go get Jay, he's....he just needs me okay? Kay. Thanks bye." he finished before the other male could even speak, as he would dash down the stairs.

Bishrexual to the Best Gays of Washington High
YOU JUST CALLED HIM JAY!?

Gabriel ignored the message, as he started Ollie's piece of shit car and plugged the address into his phone's GPS, after getting back into the phone. "I'm on my way JJ, be careful." he spoke with a caring tone. He completely skipped over the fact he used Jay's childhood nickname, as he reached the place within fifteen minutes, getting lost a few times. He would unlock the door, and stop the car. Placing it in park, he would get out of the car and walk over to Jay sitting on the curb. "Let's get your drunk ass out of here."

"I'm on my way JJ, be careful." He hadn't been called that in years. He got an odd feeling in his stomach and he didn't know what it meant, it almost scared him a little bit. Gabe, and Gabe sounded so sincere on the phone, a lot different from previously in the day. He sputtered out a small and shaky "Ok" before he ended the call, staring at the phone absentmindedly for a few extra moments before shaking his head.

Jay made his was over to the curb out in front of the house and slowly lowered himself down into a sitting position. His head was pounding and he knew he was going to pay for it more tomorrow morning. He didn't even know what to think about what had just happened. It was so impulsive, and he was so confused about why he got so defensive. It was the alcohol, it had to be.

Jay looked up as he heard the rumbling of the car engine and watched a beat up blue car park next to him on the curb. He glanced up slowly and watched as Gabe got out of the car and came around next to him. "Let's get your drunk ass out of here", Jay didn't really respond but rather nodded his head slightly. He got up rather clumsily, but kept his head down and at an angle. He didn't want Gabe to see whatever the hell Jake had done to his face, it would just come up for a rather uncomfortable conversation and he wasn't in the mood to explain himself. He just wanted to go back to the apartment and sleep.

He stumbled slightly to the passenger door of the car and got in angling himself towards the window and away from Gabe. "Thanks for coming and getting me" He muttered quietly when he heard Gabe get in the car. He adjusted slightly in his seat and let out a small, and barely audible gasp of pain. Jake must've got me in the ribs too, god I must look awful , He thought in dismay. He just knew there was no hiding this when they got back to the apartment, he would just have to rush past Gabe and into his room. Maybe it'll work... Hopefully.

"I-It's no problem. You mind telling me why you look like you got jumped?" the male asked. His amber eyes focusing on Jay's face at a stoplight. He would tilt his head, a normal sign of confusion for him, and sigh. He assumed that Jay was flirting with some girl, and got beat up by her boyfriend. He would sigh, ignore the tingling feeling inside of his chest. When the light turned green, he hesitated, hearing a honk and he would begin to drive. His mind lingered on the boy, he saw the male wince in pain when entering the car. After a few moments, they would reach the apartment complex, and he would park the car. "Hey.....you know just because I think you're an asshole, you can talk to me right?" the male questioned his eyes somewhat looking at the boy.

Gabriel would begin to unlock the doors and walk out of the car to the other side. He would open Jay's door, and pull him up to hold his arm over the shoulder.

He somewhat blamed the alcohol on the boy's demeanor, but he didn't know for sure. Something didn't feel right, they just easily fell back into the rhythm they had in middle school. But Gabriel still resented it, for some reason he felt like there was something fishy about the entire thing. He would get himself, and Jay to their apartment and sit him down on the couch. "Now, you've been silent for a bit Jay, tell me what happened, I haven't seen you this beat up since that night you showed up to my house all bruised and bloody....you still never told me what happened." he stated bluntly, a small amount of hurt could be heard in his voice. He would look at his phone seeing his friends blew him up.

"You mind telling me why you look like you got jumped?"

Well damn so much for trying to keep everything under the radar.

He wasn't surprised that Gabe had noticed, he had always been so observing ever since they were kids. "It's, eh nothing. Just, just don't worry about it". He didn't even know how to begin explaining what happened, and honestly he didn't know what it meant. He pinched the bridge of his nose slightly to try and alleviate some of the headache he had but also to distract himself. Jay got in a fight technically because of Gabe, and how would the boy even react if he had known Jay would kick a guys ass to defend him. He didn't want to make things weird or awkward so he decided to just stay quiet on the matter for the duration of the car ride back.

When the car was finally parked Jay had already planned on trying to dash back to the room but Gabe paused for a moment which prompted Jay to glance over at him. "Hey.....you know just because I think you're an asshole, you can talk to me right?" He was being sincere, Jay knew it but there was no way that they could just become friends again. They weren't good for each other, (or at least that a what his father's constant banter made him believe). Still, Jay nodded slightly and let out a rather soft reply of, "I know". This had oddly felt like the most normal encounter Jay had with Gabe in a while, and his weakened state wasn't in the mood to fight but rather just go along with it. So, when Gabe helped him out of the car supporting some of his weight, Jay let him.

When they finally reached the apartment Gabe led him over to the couch and Jay couldn't help but sink into the security and comfiness of it all. However he wasn't ready for an interrogation session from Gabe.

"Now, you've been silent for a bit Jay, tell me what happened, I haven't seen you this beat up since that night you showed up to my house all bruised and bloody....you still never told me what happened." Jay let out a small groan and sunk further into the couch, expressing his discomfort about the situation. He knew that Gabe wouldn't leave him alone until he said something so he just decided to leave some parts out, it technically wasnt lying. "God Gabe its not a huge deal. I just got into a fight with one of the guys, he was just talking shit on someone and I stood up for them. You can see how being a Good Samaritan has treated me" he gestured to his face with a pause, "now can I just get some sleep? I'm tired and I feel like I got hit by a bus" he complained.

Even without knowing Gabe for the five years the ceased their friendship, he knew something more happened. But being answered, he dropped it and sighed. He would nod and leave the room going to his own, with a slight irritation visible in his way of walking. Sitting on his bed, he would feel his phone vibrate. Knowing he was going to get chewed out by his friends, he would look towards his guitar. Picking it up, he would just play around with the strings to calm his nerves. Putting the guitar down, he would begin to scroll through Facebook on his phone, seeing pictures of the party. He would curiously stop on one of the videos someone took, where Jay was apparently threatening someone. The exact words were inaudible, but Gabriel could hear "....don't call him that." then the fighting would continue, as Gabriel tilted his head. Ignoring his urge to question Jay about it, he would begin to message his friends, who were dying to know what happened.

GayGuitarBoy to the Best Gays of Washington High
Sorry! I was driving, and then when we got home, I made him tell me what happened. And I don't know, I guess when he called me old reflexes kicked in. I called him JJ on the phone so....

MamaKade to the Best Gays of Washington High
Ollie went to bed a while ago, but are you sure you still hate him, by him I mean Jay. I mean seeing the way you rushed to his aid, sort of doesn't seem like hate. More of you're putting up the angry facade, so you don't show how hurt you were.

GayGuitarBoy to the Best Gays of Washington High
I DON'T EVEN KNOW!! It's like, I came into this assignment ready to get it over with, and I hated him such a passion. Everything confusing, because now I don't hate him as much. I feel weird whenever I see him, oh lord....I don't want to go to school tomorrow. But we have to.

With Kaden falling asleep, and the current time being extremely late in the night, Gabriel would do what he always did. He picked up his guitar and played the first song he learned on guitar, due to Jay's request. He didn't realize the entire story behind it, until he was already halfway through. But by then he didn't care.

When Jay realized Gabe wasn't going to press him any further he slowly got up off the couch and quickly slipped into his room. This night had been crazy enough and he wasn't really in the mood to talk any longer. He didn't even realize he was holding his breath until he closed the door. He made his was to the bathroom and grimaced as he stared at his reflection. A small cut on his lip, a green-tinted left eye, a bloody nose, and a very bruised cheekbone. He tried the best he could to wipe off all the dried blood and make himself look a little bit less like a train wreck.

He needed sleep. A lot of it, it had been a long day. He slipped off his shirt and switched from his pants into a pair of basketball shorts slipping underneath the covers, the cool sheets adding a bit of soothing for his muscles. He bunched the blankets up around him and reached to turn off the light plunging the room into darkness. Stretching out cautiously, he closed his eyes and sunk into the comfy sheets. It was completely quiet other than the sound of his own breathing, until he heard the strum of guitar strings softly from across the apartment. He recognized the song immediately. He remembered he proposed it was the first song that Gabe ever learned, at first it was just a playful banter but a couple days later Gabe had actually went and learned the song. They spent that entire day in his backyard Gabe playing the guitar and Jay doing his homework, it was a good day.

The song made him reach for his phone and send a small text to Gabe.

Jay to G
Hey I just wanted to say thank you again, I really mean it. Can't believe you still remember the song. Night Gabe.

He put the phone back on the nightstand and let the strumming of the guitar lull him to sleep.

THE FOLLOWING MORNING

After receiving the text from Jay, Gabriel felt rather weird. His dark brown eyes almost teared up at the message, but around three am, the brunet boy fell asleep with his guitar in his lap. The last thing on his mind though was Jay, and that lead to an....odd dream.
_________________________________________________________________________

An alarm would go off for Gabriel a seven o'clock, giving him four hours of sleep. His sluggish body would smack his phone to the ground which would simply muffle the sound. Beginning to get frustrated, he would get up and grab his phone turning off the alarm. Now, anyone who was close to Gabe, or has spent the night with him knows the brunet is not exactly a morning person. Until he has his breakfast tea, which was odd, but how he was. Moving his body towards the closet, to enter the bathroom. His mind would begin to remember the night before.

"Fuck."

Was the mental word Gabriel said, he remembered the whole events from the day before. He and Jay would probably be on good terms, as the night before, Jay was drunk. But Gabriel was very motivated to be out of the apartment before Jay woke up.

Gabriel to Jay
Going to school....so uh yeah.

He would send the message and send another one to Oliver telling him he'd meet him at his car. Eventually, Oliver would meet him at the car. They would get in the car, and drive to a small tea-shop and get Gabriel his tea for the morning. Within three minutes, they'd reach the school and Gabriel would thank Oliver, before heading to his locker. School hadn't started yet, but there were people already there. Mainly some jocks getting in early training. Gabriel would walk down the hallway, getting harsh glances towards him, harsher than the normal ones he was given. The male would begin to reach his locker, as he saw the spray painting on his locker. In a harsh way, blocky black letters would reach across his locker.

STAY AWAY FAG

Gabriel's fists would begin to clench, his face would turn red. Anger boiled in his blood, running to the music room, Gabriel would close the door and lock it. He would let out an extremely angry scream and throw a few chairs around the room and sit in one of the seats holding his chest to his knees.

"I knew it....only bad things could come from this."

Jay woke up with a raging headache. He wasn't surprised considering the amount of alcohol he had consumed the night before. God, what an idiot He thought with a small groan shifting under the covers. It took him a bit longer to get up than he normally did, he heard Gabriel shuffling around the apartment and then finally leave when Jay finally got the will to get out of bed. He stumbled into the kitchen putting on some coffee and grabbed a granola bar from his stash in the cabinet he had put in yesterday.

After a while he finally managed to get to school on time nearly snoozing through his first period. His only goal for the day was to try and find his friends and some how manage to make it up to them. He didn't know where to start about explanations but he hoped that when it came down to it, something would just come out of his mouth. Even though they said some rather idiotic things they were still his friends.

It was after 3rd when he finally saw Derek and Jake leaning up against the lockers, Jake wearing a couple of bruises just like Jay. He quickly made his way over to the two and awkwardly started to apologize. "Hey guys, I just um I wanted to say, Jake, I'm so sorry about last night. I really don't know what came over me and - "
Before he could finish Jake held up a hand with a grin on his face. Jay raised a questioning eyebrow as Jake and Derek let out a curt laugh. "Dude its fine, we were all a little messed up that night. I haven't been tossed around like that in forever, it was fun Castle". Jay took a step back still a little hesitant to Jake's response, "Wait really? Everything's ok?". "Yeah man, don't sweat it. You did have us worried there for a moment, thought we lost you to guitar boy. We shook him up a little so hopefully he'll leave you alone". Jay didn't have any time to answer before the two bumped fists and wandered off to their next classes.

Jay hadn't thought much about the whole ordeal until his last class of the day, economics. It was the only class he shared with Gabriel, who wasn't in there yet. As other classmates shuffled in Jay made his way to a random desk and sat down sinking into the hard, plastic chair with a quiet sigh.

His meltdown was short lived, when he gave up on it. Unlocking the doors, he would simply walk out of the school. His dark blue eyes turning a cloudy gray-blue, as he would look up towards the sky that slowly turned a grayish color. He would simply sit outside as the rain started, the entire day pretty much, until the last period. When he realized he had to, but he simply would move back inside sopping wet, and walk towards Oliver's car. He did have a pair of clothes to change into, one of them being an extremely large hoodie that when Gabe and Jay were friends, the brunet took from his room. He would change quickly, in the bathroom and walk back out.

Walking to his final class, economics.

"How kind of you to join the class, Mr. Shurley, take your seat. I will talk to you after class," the teacher, Mr. Hallman, would speak with an irritated tone. Wearing his messenger bag, he scanned the classroom so he could find a seat, and the only seat open was one next to Jay. He would lower his eyes to the floor and sit at the desk next to him, ignoring him. The brunet would simply sit at his desk, ignoring that of Jay's entire existence. It was his fault. He should have stopped his friends. He was in charge of the little group of dickheads. His eyes remained the stormy blue, as he clenched his fists that laid on the desk. He would silently look towards Jay, with a pleading look before turning back and drowining out the entire room.

"Mr. Hallman, I need to leave the room. I'm afraid of infecting people with a sickness I apparently have," the teacher would tilt his head with a confusion. "What type of sickness do you have Mr. Shurley?" Gabriel would look towards Jay with a full on look of irritation and disgust. "I believe it's my faggy tendencies, now I must go before I infect people," the male spoke, before getting up with his bag, and walking out of the room without an approval. He would make his way towards the door, and sit under the school's walkway in the front. His icy blue eyes would stare towards rain falling.

Jay nervously tapped his foot against the floor as Mr. Hallman rambled on about macroeconomic analysis. Gabriel hadn't shown up for class yet and he had an awful feeling about it. He couldn't help but remember what the guys had said earlier about 'shaking him up a bit', I hope they didn't hurt him Jay thought miserably.

When he finally heard the door rather aggressively open he quickly glanced up from his notebook as Gabe sulked into the classroom. Is that my sweatshirt? He thought raising a slight eyebrow as Mr. Hallman gave Gabe a rather bitchy glare. "How kind of you to join the class, Mr. Shurley, take your seat. I will talk to you after class," The teacher was one of of the oldest and rudest at the school, Jay hated him.

Jay looked up at locked eyes with Gabe in which Jay quickly averted eye contact, instead looking at the empty desk next to him. He watched Gabriel make his way to the seat and promptly sit down not even glancing over in Jay's direction. A frown fell across his face, he got the point, and turned back to his notebook a little frustrated. He racked his brain for anything he could've done to Gabe but he couldn't come up with anything.

He was so caught up in his thoughts he didn't notice Gabe glance in his direction until he spoke up. "Mr. Hallman, I need to leave the room. I'm afraid of infecting people with a sickness I apparently have,"
Jay scrunched his nose up in confusion what the hell is he talking about. It seemed that Mr. Hallman had the exact same thought he did, "What type of sickness do you have Mr. Shurley?" Jay looked up to Gabriel with a questioning glance and was met with a look of absolute disgust that took him a moment to process.

"I believe it's my faggy tendencies, now I must go before I infect people," He spoke the words directly at Jay who was frozen in absolute shock, along with the rest of the class. With that comment Gabriel promptly grabbed his things and stormed out of the classroom. There was a terrible moment of silence in the classroom, and all eyes were focused on Jay. His cheeks flamed red with embarrassment as he quickly averted the gaze of his classmates.

Mr. Hallman cleared his throat awkwardly, "Well, erhm as I was saying-" before he could finish Jay shot up out of his desk and quickly grabbed his things pushing past Mr. Hallman on his way out of the class. "Mr. Castle!" He heard from behind him as the door to the classroom closed behind him.

It took him a good few minutes to find him. Gabriel. He eventually found him sitting on the steps to the school, staring quietly into the parking lot. From the time it took Jay to get there his anger had bubbled, the tips of his ears and cheeks tinged red with anger and embarrassment. "I hope you're happy with yourself" Jay spoke up crossing his arms across his chest, "Whatever the hell that was for, embarrassing me in front of everyone like that. I didn't do anything to you Gabriel. I thought we were keeping our distance from each other". He walked down in front of the steps so he could look him straight in the eye, not even giving Gabe the chance to talk. "Was this about the party? God Gabriel, sometimes you're so caught up in your own damn self that you can't even pay attention" Jay pointed to his still rather bruised face angrily and then clenched his fists. "You know this? This was because of you. Jake talked shit on you at the party so I punched him in the face and he returned the damn favor. I was sticking up for you". He stumbled a bit down the steps in the fit of anger, leaving the safety of the awning on the steps and out into the cold rain. "Clearly I should've just kept my mouth shut, because it didn't help at all. Hope you're fucking happy with yourself".

He turned on his heel tucking his backpack closer to himself as he went to his car. With the rain he couldn't tell what were raindrops and what were tears.

The boy would listen to Gabriel, his anger subsiding inside him. He felt bad, things like this he was not the type of person to him, he supposed it was anger. But not towards Jay, towards the situation they were placed in. It wasn't fair they had somewhat made up last night, and Gabriel had gotten jealous. That he wasn't in the situation where he and Jay kept their friendship. Without thinking, the male would stand up hesitating over the rain pouring down. He would simply dash towards Jay, running in the rain, right now he wasn't in the state of caring over what got wet or didn't. Not even a week into this project, and he fucked up. "Jay!" he yelled at the other boy, the rain drowning out his voice. He would eventually run after him disregarding probability of getting punched, he would begin to speak.

"Look.....I'm...I'm sorry. It's not you I was angry, you were just the person I could easily place blame on. I didn't know you stuck up for me, that would explain the paint on the locker."

He spoke about the writing on his lockers, before looking down. He would take a breath in the rain and look up towards Jay. "Can we continue this conversation at the apartment.....?" he asked. He knew he was in the wrong for his whole attitude, and he was bound to get a call from his mother. His brown hair was plastered to his face, as he would sigh. He hoped Jay was willing to talk to him. He fucked up majorly.

As Jay stormed off to his car in the parking lot he faintly heard Gabriel call out his name behind him. He refused to turn around and say anything until Jay was finally at the door to his car but Gabe had stopped him in his tracks. Jay shot a subltle glare at him digging in his hands in his pockets, "What Shurley? I can't stand in the rain forever". He remarked part of him not even wanting to hear what Gabriel had to say about the situation.

"Look.....I'm...I'm sorry. It's not you I was angry, you were just the person I could easily place blame on. I didn't know you stuck up for me, that would explain the paint on the locker." Jay raised an eyebrow, slightly confused about the random comment. "What do you mean, paint on the locker?" His face slowly fell as Gabe explained what Derek and Jake had done to his locker that morning and his stomach sunk to the floor. He let out a small groan and pinched the bridge of his nose, "God, they're idiots. I didn't know they'd even pull something like that". He ran a careful hand through his hair the rain making it bunch up into curls.

"Can we continue this conversation at the apartment.....?" Jay unlocked his car and threw his backpack into the back of the car. "Uh, yeah I guess. Get in" With that he slipped into the drivers side, starting the car and immediately blasting the heat. He could already feel a cold coming on.

The male slid into the passenger seat of Jay's car and sat there in the silence, he was wet, cold, and emotionally vulnerable. His blue eyes focused on Jay, as he felt an odd feeling. He somehow began to miss his friendship, but feelings bubbled up from middle school. Things he swore he was going to ignore, remembering his brother had left some things for him in his bag, he would change his eyes direction to the window. The waterdrops setting on the window reminding him of a rainy day that he and Jay spent inside. "Hey, when we get to the apartment, I have some patron in my dresser. If you want we could drink it." he spoke to ease the silence. He would simply remain silent, scrolling through his phone seeing a few texts from his friends and a surprising one from his brother.

Oliver to Gabriel
Hey? Are you okay?
Gabe, are you there?

Kade to Gabriel
You're so fucking stupid, can't believe you walked out of class like that! You're such a fucking idiot. You're lucky I don't whoop your ass.

Michael to Gabriel
Hey! Why the fuck did Mom just get a call saying you left the school? What the actual fuck Gabs? Please call me whenever you can okay?

He ignored the text messages, he truly knew they meant no harm. But he wasn't in the state for him to answer them, so he sent a few quick messages saying he'd talk to them later on in the evening. His dark blue eyes grazed over it, before he noticed they were nearing the apartment, he simply awaited Jay to speak.

Jay kept his eyes on the road for the duration of the car ride, he hated driving in the rain, it made him nervous. However, the silence was awkward and tense so to keep his mind busy he tapped his fingers on the wheel. "Hey, when we get to the apartment, I have some patron in my dresser. If you want we could drink it." Gabriel was the first to break the silence. Jay let out a little chuckle as he turned on to the street of the apartments, "Oh god, I don't know if I should drink anymore considering last night" He mumbled softly.

It didn't take long to get from the school to the apartment and within a couple minutes they were both in the warm apartment, which Jay was extremely thankful for. "I'm going to change out of these clothes really quick" He quietly slipped into his room exchanging his soaked clothes for an old football t-shirt and some athletic shorts. He peeked into the mirror in the bathroom and frowned to see his hair had went to its unruly curls by the rain. He got so annoyed by his hair when it become so springy and wild.

He somehow found his way to the comfy couch in their informal living room and immediately sunk into the comfiness of it all, he really wasn't paying attention to anything else."Mphf. I could die happily on this couch" He muttered, more so to himself as he closed his eyes, resting for a moment.

As soon as they got to the apartment, Gabriel managed to move to his room and changed into a pink hoodie and black sweatpants. He got to his dresser and took out the bottle of patron, and moved out to the living room area. Sitting down next to Jay, his hair still plastered to his face. He would simply smile a short bit before he would open up the bottle and tag a swig of the liquid. "Mphf. I could die happily on this couch." Gabriel began to laugh a bit before he would speak. "Why'd we stop being friends? Was it really because I was gay?" he asked in a curious tone. His eyes lingered over the boy, before taking another swig, offering it over to the boy.

Gabriel giggled slightly. Oddly remembering a nickname he gave Jay when they were kids. A few before middle school, when Gabriel first moved here. Obviously, he was a little bit buzzed from the drink and would lay his head on Jay's shoulder. Not realizing the possible consequences. A thought would cross his mind.

This feels weird.

Jay didn't open his eyes till he felt the weight of the couch shift slightly as Gabe sat down next to him. He had the patron in his hand and took a rather large drink from the bottle, glancing over at Jay. "Why'd we stop being friends? Was it really because I was gay?" Jay tensed slightly at the question. There are many reasons why, mainly my father. No absolutely not. He thought to himself, it was the question he had been avoiding since he laid eyes on Gabriel yesterday. How, how do I even answer that? He thought solemnly to himself. Gabe must've noticed how tense he was and offered him the bottle of Patron. Jay took the bottle, even the tiny sip burning the back of his throat. He wasn't in the mood to drink if he was being completely honest, he wasn't even sure if he had gotten over his hangover from this morning.

"Oh, uhm that, that's a difficult question I- erhm" Jay racked his head for something to say. He had repressed everything for so long he wasn't sure he wanted to let it all out. He didn't want to tell Gabriel the truth, because he didn't know what to expect, it's why he didn't tell him years ago. It all hurt too much.

Jay flinched. Slightly but it was still there. He wasn't expecting Gabriel to rest his head on his shoulder. It must be the alcohol He thought to himself trying to let the comfy couch diminish his awkwardness. "Maybe you should um, ease up on the patron Gabe" There was a slight hint of humor in his voice but he also knew that alcohol brought out strange sides in people and he didn't know if he was ready for that.
