Vampires and Halflings (Wings_Take_Flight and Flysociety)

The bar was smoky and dimly lit while loud music blasted over the thundering crowd of men and women alike; their laughter, cheers, shouts and angry words mixed in with the slapping of cards being lay down on the tables. To any outsider looking in through the musky windows this would seem like any normal bar; but to Annabelle she knew differently. Vampires were lurking around with humans trying to get them to willingly lend their blood out for food. Some just walked away but most willingly exposed their selves to them as though they were a buffet. Annabelle only looked at the scene in disgust, vampires and humans should not interact with each other.

Four years ago her family had been attacked by a group of vampires. Her mom had returned from shopping and had rejected a vampire’s offer of giving such a thing as her blood. She was loyal to her husband and would not give the feeling of pleasure to any other being. This angered the vampires, unknowing to her they had followed her home then waited till the right time. The creatures attacked the whole family, draining both parents of their life.

Seeing the kids however a new idea came to them; how about change them only half way? Annabelle had tried to help her little brother who was one at the time; but the vampires were too strong. All that she could remember was darkness then and coming back to conciseness up in a pool of blood. Jeremy-her brother-was crying on the couch with a face full of pain. Annabelle’s own pain began to form inside of her and that was that. They were both half vampire and half human.

They age slower then usual but hold no powers or blood lust. A year later the law of vampires being treated as humans passed to Annabelle’s disgust. Nothing was right in the world then for Annabelle. Now, here she was working as a waitress in a bar full of humans and monsters.

Chris stood and watched the crimson red swirled down the drain. He threw more water around his face and swished some around in his mouth as for good measure making sure he was completely clean. He looked in the mirror; only wishing there was something there to look back at him. His face was just a memory to him, he found out what he looked like from his victims just before he drained them. Short brown hair, that covered his now returning brown eyes, he was the average height of 6'0ft with a lean semi athletic build, he was wearing his favorite black jacket with the matching outfit.

He kept his being a vampire a secret still despite the new law passed. It only allowed his kind to be treated like humans they still couldn't go around feeding and killing humans. But just because there was a law now didn't mean people followed it, humans still treated humans like shit what hope did vampires have. And every killing now only made things worse. Chris didn't even mean to kill the girl, one minute they were making out and the next his fangs were deep in her neck sucking her dry.

The woman's body now was tucked away safely in the last stall, but still he didn't want to cause a commotion just yet. There was a janitor closet nearby and luckily for there was an Out of order sign, so he pinned it up and was on his way. Before he left though he strongly needed a drink, so signaling to a waitress at the bar he awaited for his service.

Annabelle saw a man signaling her over to him. Her cat like green eyes looked him over as she tried to decided whether she wanted to take his order or send a waiter over to serve him. The man looked harmless enough but that didn’t mean anything, neither did the fact that he was good looking. With a sigh she pushed a few strands of her curly, red hair behind her ear and made her way through the crowd towards him. Tonight she wore dark black pants with a tight red tank top and matching boots. Around her neck lay a silver cross that rested on her chest.

The government was trying to get a law to pass for the jewelry to be banned but for now she was allowed to wear it. Looking down at the boy she raised an eyebrow and said. “What will it be sir?” Her voice was smooth, gentle but held the hint of danger. If he tried anything he was in a surprise from this petite, five foot girl. She knew how to wield weapons and she knew how to kick ass. She had to from the place she now lived in.

Chris still couldn't believe what had happened, he had bitten girls before, but he controlled himself only leaving them unconscious not DEAD. Don't get him wrong in the vampire world you had to be ruthless and he was he just didn't like killing innocent women, feeding on them was completely different. But this time, only this time his urges had got the best him, he had managed to seduce her and they couldn't find a place more private than the bathroom they were animals going at it they began kissing, breathing heavily, hands roaming, and then his teeth were in her neck and her soft moans turn to dead silence.

Chris was in the middle of this thought when the waitress finally arrived. Whenever he meet a girl he did his usual hidden sniff, by acting like something was wrong with his nose and breathing in at the same time. It was a failure though with all this poisonous smoke around, which was another reason, he had leave. But it didn't matter she was barely cut enough for him to waste his time.

"Took you long enough,” he mumbled under his breath "Absolute and Lime and could you be a little quicker with it. Thanks." he said finally talking up showing his New York accent off.

Glaring down at the man she instantly found him not at all attractive, now he was just another cocky, asshole. “I shall take however look it takes to make it.” She sneered before walking back into the kitchen and shouting the order. At the bar they had given her a nickname, it was firecracker. Annabelle was always going off at selfish, senseless, pathetic people. After seeing the deaths of her parents and her baby brother crying in a puddle of blood; it had changed her.

“Firecracker!” Annabelle turned around and smirked at the chef who was now handing her the drink. Annabelle stared down into it as she wondered whether to take any longer with giving it to him. The chef loved her working here and would not want to get rid of such a hard worker; so she would not get in trouble. A smirk formed on her face as she walked through the crowds and placed it on the table. It had only taken a little bit of time but she was still ready to insult him if he was going to be an ass again.

Chris smiled a bit after the lady stormed off into the crowd and was now out of sight. Maybe he could waste some time on her he liked girls more when they feisty, he wished he could tell what she was he hadn't had a good relationship with a vampire girl in a while. He relaxed more in his chair now and observed his surrounding, there was a group in the corner: two girls and one guy, the girls were surely vampires and the guy was simply their dinner, anyone could tell he was far too ugly to pull of two beautiful women.

Turning his head his eyes soon found the waitress again. His ears perked a bit as he heard what must be her nickname, 'Firecracker'. He fumbled with his pockets looking for his money when he finally found a twenty he figured he would apologize by giving her a hefty tip. When she arrived he dragged the drink towards him and replaced it with the folded bill. "Ah, thanks for being quick about it. Your name should be Speedy instead of Firecracker. Why do they call you that anyway?" he said with slight smile after taking a sip of his drink.

"Firecracker? I got that name because I am known to have a very short temper; and you sir were very close to setting it off." With that she ran fingers through her hair and saw the twenty dollar bill. She really needed the money, and the guy had been an ass; so without a second thought she smiled at him and placed the money in her pocket. "New york huh?" She asked while leaning against the table; she had noticed his accent and thought it very cute and almost wild. Hearing shouts she knew she had another order, with a smirk she met the boy's eyes and asked him if he needed anything else. "If you don't I need to go."

Annabelle was not flirting, rather she was being a tad bit nicer then she should need to. His actions before had been forgive with the twenty dollar bill. You can't buy her happiness but you can easily get her to forgive you with money. Standing there she awaited his answer in an almost impatient way. They were now using her real name, Annabelle, which meant they were a tad bit angry. The order must be huge or very important.

He was almost scared when the girl acted as though she was going to bite his head off, she was no longer the feisty waitress she was the demonic waitress within a matter of seconds. But the demonic waitress was soon easily swayed with the sight of the large tip and suddenly started being nice and polite. He wondered if she liked money or just needed it, but at the same time if she had took it and was still mean he would have called her a "ungrateful bitch" and left out. So he decided not to judge her and converse with her.

"Yea I am, I’m from-" he stopped as the shouts of some people interrupted him "Uh...I don't need-" he shot a menacing glare over at the group that had now interrupted him for the second time, but he did notice how they were now calling Annabelle which must have been her name because she turned "I will talk to you later Annabelle it seems as though you are needed."

Annabelle gave a nod and ran a hand through her hair once more before heading off at a brisk pace towards the chef. "What is it?" She asked when she saw that nobody was asking for her.
"It is your brother...He is in immense pain." Annabelle quickly went pale at the sounds of tears and moans coming from a hidden part of the bar. It was behind a curtain that blended in well with the decorations, everyone knew that only Annabelle and the chef could go in there. But for now only Annabelle ventured in. Jeremy was squirming in a pile of sweat and what looked to be a red liquid that she could only take as blood. "Jeremy...What is it love?" She whispered while taking his hand, she quickly dropped it when she felt how icy cold it was. A gasp broke through her mouth as Jeremy picked her hand up and brought it to his lips.

Pain shot through her as she felt teeth puncture her once smooth and flawless skin. Fangs. Jeremy now had fangs, this was not good. Peering down at the boy as he began to suck from her she realized that now his vampire blood must be trying to take over her. Why else would he suddenly have grown fangs. "Is everything okay in there?" The chef called out.

"Ye-Yes." Her voice was weak and proved otherwise but no one came in. "Just send another waitress out to the man that I was serving."

Chris stared shamelessly as he watched Annabelle walk off, cute he thought. He took sudden notice as she took off and disappeared behind a curtain he hadn't noticed before, he wondered what had happened, hoping that she wasn't getting scolded for being late on a order on his behalf...His glass was now empty and there was still no sight of Annabelle anywhere. A waitress caught his wandering eyes and saw his empty glass and was now on her way.

"May I help you?" she questioned politely.
"Yes you can, where is Annabelle?" he replied answering her question with a question.
She guessed he was her friend because few came here who actually knew her name other than 'Firecracker'. "Oh, you must be one of her friends, she is in the back, her brother is ill."
"Brother huh? Well tell her I hope all is well and if she wants to finish our conversation I will be out front."

The waitress nodded and headed off to another table. As clueless as the waitress seemed to be, Chris could have easily gained access to the back area where Annabelle was, but he was no where near being a friend let alone being acquaintance of hers so most likely she would have freaked at the sight of him, besides it was none of his business he probably wouldn't even see the girl after tonight. Chris straightened himself up as he headed out the door, escaping the poison filled air.

The night air was crisp and refreshing the wind keeping up a steady gust, that would chill most humans. He leaned against a brick wall off to the left side of the door and just breathed in heavily as he watched the night sky.

Jeremy continued to suck on her wrist relentlessly; her skin began to get ghastly pale as her body weakened. She needed to get him to stop. Pulling her wrist back she felt Jeremy squeeze tightly to try and stop her from moving; it didn't work. "Jeremy, now stop it right now!" His wide blue eyes gazed up at her with a pathetic mewing sound. Annabelle began to breath deeply as she held her bloody wrist against her chest, too scared to do anything but stare at her brother who was quickly transforming into something else. "We need to get some air." She whispered to him while slowly standing up; the world began to spin and she realized that he had taken much blood from her.

Her knees went weak as she crumbled to the ground in a heap. "Damn it." She moaned. Without a second thought the chef came in and saw what was going on.

"Bloody hell." He cursed then began to shout for someone to call the hospital. Jeremy was growling at the human, his fangs bared as he tried to protect his sister. But the blood lust was overpowering him and all he could hear and think about was the beating pulse and hearts of the humans. He launched himself into the bar and began to feed like a mad man on any human he could find. Annabelle could only black out from lack of blood.

Chris's peaceful silence was abruptly ended with screams and people bursting from every exit in cries of terror. Oh shit time to go, they have found my little accident he thought…He was half way down the street when he over heard two girls chatting behind him who must have been the vampires from earlier "Did you see how that boy took down that man, It reminded me of my first killing I just couldn't interfere." Chris made a sharp turn on his heels and made his way back to the bar.

As he approached the bar he poked his head trough the ajar door, he saw a small boy feeding on a large man who must have been Annabelle's boss. The boy started growling taking a defensive crouch as he entered, so to show him that he was the more dominant vampire he showed his fangs and let out a blood curling growl, but sill it didn't cause him to back down. And before Chris could make his move the boy was lunging towards him, but being the experienced vampire that Chris was this was easily sidestepped and allowed him to grab him by the back of his. Chris began applying pressure to his hold as this was a pressure point and would knock out a kid with ease.

The boy now subdued allowing Chris to head towards the back to find Annabelle. He found her sprawled out on the floor most likely she tried to feed the boy using her own blood, which was a terrible mistake the young can never control how much they take no matter who it is. Bending down he raised her head next to his wrist he knew there was but one choice if he wanted to help. So he punctured his skin and watched as blood overflow from the newly self-inflicted wound. He held his wrist over her mouth allowing the blood to drop in her mouth hoping that it wasn't too late.

Annabelle stirred in the darkness that was controlling her; something thick and warm was falling onto her face and into her mouth. It tasted so good and all she could do was take it in her mouth and drink it down; her hands clung onto the wrist and pulled it to her mouth where she gently held it. It was not until her eyes fluttered open that she realized what she was holding was the man's wrist; and what she was drinking was his blood. With a loud scream, she shoved him back and forced herself up against a wall as though she could escape that way. Great, now her vampire side was going to be stronger then the human half; she was going to turn into something that she hated.

"What the hell are you doing?" She screamed at him as she tried to wipe the blood off of her lips; that proved to be to be in vain as she just smeared more on. Her lips were now covered in blood as though it was lipstick. Annabelle looked into the vampire's eyes as she searched him for an answer. Being a Halfling it would be harder for him to bespell her; but if he was strong enough he could do it with ease.

Chris's body tingled slightly as he felt her teeth sink into his wrist. There was a weird pleasure like feeling that you went trough when another vampire sunk their teeth into you. His train of thought was returned when Annabelle suddenly refused him and had backed off into a corner yelling at him. He licked the leftover blood of his wrist while he listened to her freak. He thought he should put her to sleep but surely the police would be here and carrying all that weight wouldn't make for such a great escape, he needed her to be herself and fully awake and attentive.

Chris began speaking with in a calm but with a bit of haste in his voice, "Look Anna, is it okay if I call you Anna? Anyway your brother who by the way is passed out in the front don't, worry he is fine, but he has killed at least two people not to mention I found a dead vampire victim in the bathroom and by all three of us being bloodied up Vampires this doesn't make us quite the little innocent angels in a policeman's eye so I think we should get out here, we can talk later." Chris explained as he stood up holding out his hand "Oh and by the way my name is Chris."

Annabelle wanted to yell at him but couldn't, nothing was making sense and yelling would not help her case. So she just stayed calm and bit her lip to keep out from screaming at him; but when he called her a vampire she could not keep her silence. "Are you kidding me? I am not a vampire! My brother may be but I am not!" Annabelle stood up and instantly fell to the ground out of dizziness.

"I can't stand this..." She groaned out. As he held out his hand, and the sound of sirens could be heard she knew that only one choice was there. Silently and reluctantly she placed her own into his. "Okay, I know what you mean but I am not happy about this. But my brother has to go with us." He is the only one I have left... That part she kept to herself as she let him help her up onto her feet. "Lets get out of here then."

Man this girl is such a drama queen, they should really start a vampire 7 step program Chris thought. As he stood and listened to the girl refuse who she was his ears tuned in to the oncoming police. He watched sadly as she tried to stand only to fall back down which the reason he smiled as she had finally accepted fate and took his hand.

Chris let the girl stand on her own now and he headed off to get the sleeping vampire "Of course we are taking him, I wouldn't allow you to leave one of OUR kind behind!" he stated as he put emphasis on 'our kind'. With the boy now in his arms they left out the front door and headed down the alley in the front, for the police would surround all immediate exits around the bar.

It was as though they were racing the wind, defying gravity and free all in one. They were running so fast and so swiftly that the idea of her being a vampire seemed so real that it scared her. Maybe she really was a vampire, just maybe. That thought proved to be too horrid for Annabelle that she would not believe; she was a Halfling, she still had some human in her. Just more vampire now thanks to the vampire called Chris. Once they were free from any police she ripped her hand away from the vampire and took Jeremy into her arms. She leaned against the wall and began to pant, her lungs grasping for air. It was only after she caught her breath that she met Chris's eyes once more. "Hey may be a vampire...But he is still my brother...I am still a Halfling with some human in me...I will take care of him..."

[/I]Just keeping telling yourself that, it will soon be true.[/I] She thought to herself while clinging onto the passed out boy in her arms. His skin was warm, pale, and he was gently licking his lips as though he could still taste the saltiness of the blood. Her lips gently kissed the top of her brother's head. He would forever be five now, seemed like a horrid curse to be placed on such a creature. Moving her eyes to the man she awaited his answer to her statement. Would he prove her wrong? God she hoped not.

Chris was feeling liberated as he ran through the city, the way he was feeling he could have reached well out of the city limits. He looked down at the boy still sleeping he would be a fierce vampire for heavens sake he had two grown humans and almost a whole vampire…Annabelle must have felt they were far enough because she tore her hand away from his. She was short a breath unlike him he had barely broken a sweat which he soon found out why. It seemed that they were both halflings and she didn't like her vampire side, all this time he had thought they were both full blooded. He wondered what had happened obviously she wasn't willing and wasn't anytime soon going to be accepting her new life.

"You know no matter whether you drink human's blood or not halflings always end up becoming full bloods, the only difference is the time it takes which depend on a number of variables. And the more you go without a humans or vampires blood the more fits of rage you will have just like your brother did only they will be worse...If you don't mind I would like to know what happened to you?"

Annabelle shifted the boy in her arms and slid down the wall where she lay the boy in her lap. Gazing up at the vampire she gave a broken look up at him then quickly changed it to one of anger. "What do you think? Vampires did this to us!" Her voice was filled with disgust as she gazed up at the monster. "Whatever, thanks for helping us and all but we need to go." With that she stood up and gently hugged the child to her body. The cold air brushed along her clammy body, she was sick and needed to feed. That thought hit her hard and she fell to her knees out of sickness; causing the boy to stir and let out a small whine. She could not walk a straight line if she wanted to...It was as though she was drunk but her head was throbbing. She needed blood as much as she could but didn't dare say that out loud. Though she knew the vampire was probably aware of her needs.

"Look, You obviously don't have the strength to do anything and yet you fight what help I offer you! You treat me as if I was the one to place this curse on you and you’re a brother! You need to face the facts and own up to you and your brothers new fate and stop denying it, the sooner you do that the easier you life will. So now I will offer my assistance to you once more...Will you accept?" Chris was furious when he began speaking but as he finished it became the calm and cool again. He stood there facing the girl as his chest heaved, waiting for her to reply and if it wasn't anything near what he wanted to hear he would just take off.
