[OOC] Factions

Factions

These are meant to be the very basic factions, which I'm presuming we'll be interacting with throughout the RP. Of course, you can always be a part of a completely different faction, make your own, and if you feel like there should be another faction (which is grand enough to be mentioned) shoot me a PM.

[The Saint Hectar Order:]

This is a secret order devoted to preventing Netharzeem from escaping. At first, it was the founder, Saint Hectar, who managed to prevent a plot to open the portal by vile demons and cultists, ever since the order has grown in power and influence as it contains members from various backgrounds and ranks.

Its members are taught to hunt down the followers of Netharzeem, show no mercy and avoid as much talk as possible, for past experiences has shown that a man with a silver tongue is just as dangerous as an assassin with a poisonous blade.

The order is strictly neutral, though based in the Lunian Empire, they draw upon members from the many kingdoms and nations throughout the world. Such members makes the Order very influential and powerful, as they have access to the strongly devoted agents of the Lunain Temple, the wise wizards of the Aunriel Republic, the resourceful gangsters of the Heckclown Gangs.
However, despite the common intentions of the Order's members, they rarely agree on the actions needed to take. For example, the Lunian agents usually end up arguing over petty things, all the while everyone is watching their pouches, fearing the long fingers of the men of Heckclown.

[The Cultists of Netharzeem:]
While not a united cult, the people who have learned of Netharzeem all share the same interest in freeing Netharzeem and receive their grand reward.
They remain disunited, independent and very selfish but their common greed is often enough to band even the most cruel of men.

Such believers don’t only hail from this world. It isn’t uncommon for demons, and off-worlders, to enter the world in hope of achieving what others couldn’t.

Few in numbers due to the common hatred everyone holds for them, yet every cultist is powerful in their own way, leading them to have quality over quantity; both a strength and a weakness.

[The Aunriel Republic:]
A small nation run by a wizard republic; a large number of the population here is wizards of one form or another, and those who aren’t toil to produce the needed food and goods. Licenses for wizards are received easily, and barely even needed, making the Aunriel Republic a highly popular place for scholars, mages, and other power/knowledge-hungry men and women.

The Republic is very clear how duels between wizards are to be fought, thus there are numerous battle arenas where wizards come and settle their grudges and affairs. It isn’t uncommon for some wizards to leave in a hurry search for a healer, neither is it surprising that some wizards never leave the arena at all!

The Aunriel Republic is a thriving nation. Small in size, but each citizen is powerful in the ways of magic. The nation comprises of a few large cities, populated by both wizards and commoners, many farming communities who work hard to produce the food needed, rarely leaving their community.
The majority of its citizens are atheist (but not everyone) and that leads to religious conflict with their neighbor, Lunian Empire. The two factions can get along though it is often a tense relationship, not uncommon to suddenly explode into skirmishes (or even full scale war!)

Capital: Aunriel Fortress City

[The Lunian Empire:]
The Lunian Empire is a Theocratic Empire, ruled by the Pope, and whatever his will, be the various Crusade Orders are seen enforcing it. The Lunian Church is highly superstitious, barely giving out licenses for wizards and suppressing scholars and scientists from announcing any disliked discoveries.
Witch hunting and the accusations from Temple agents are more common than anything.

Due to the size of the Empire, and the nature of mankind, the Empire is corrupt within. It's strict political policies enforces fear to the lower classed people while the higher classed society enjoy the luxury of the high taxes. Walls separate the people, superstition inspires xenophobia for those who aren't a believer of Lunian Goddess.
Wizards within the borders are required to have licenses to do their practices, and those who're born with such abilities are carefully monitored by the local wizards (because if they aren't, the Witch Hunters are permitted to execute every wizard within the community).

The Lunian Empire and the Aunriel Republic have, in the past, have five great wars between each other. No one has ever claimed a solid victory, and every war has been at a high cost.

Capital: Curia

[The Free Worker Union:]
This is a set of city-states, all of which are devoted to promote free trade between nations, and serves as then in-between man (men) whenever there arises conflicts between neighbors.
These cities are extremely liberal, common sense dictates the laws while the people run the economy and society as they see fit. Various guilds come together and overlook the needs of the cities and starts projects to build more houses, roads, temples, etc.

However this liberty is only an illusion, as every city-state is not by the guilds, but illegal criminal families who run the Union with an iron fist. Those who oppose them from within are silenced, those who threaten their power from without are persuaded to act otherwise.

Capital: Port Mandaville
