Okay, in this thread I'm going put down various details of the kingdom of Nallan, it surrounding nations, a few bits and pieces of the worlds history, and what other random facts that I think are needed. If you have any suggestions on stuff to add to this thread then talk it over with me on the ooc thread.
Magic
In this world magic had once been common place. However after a vague event in the distant past the number of practitioners started to decline as well as the known quality of spell craft practiced. Now magicians are a rare sight on the continent. They still ply their trade, often acting as healers or fortune tellers, but most keep to themselves. Because of some the strange ways in which they work, magicians are commonly thought of as eccentric and the more superstitious members of society tend to think ill of them.
Magic in the world works through a course of preparation and ritual. The exact needs of which brand of magic varies greatly as some require acts such as ingestion of certain plants and going into a trance like state or drawing symbols and placing materials at different points. The number of methods of spell incantations and the like are numerous, but they all share the same requirement, time. Magic isn't something as simple as saying a few words and waving your hands around. Even the most basic of spells can take several long minutes to set up and even more time to actually cast. Large spells require more materials, more time, and in some cases even more people to preform the magic.
There are some enchanted objects within the world. Acting as a focusing device, one uses these objects as a means of producing spells without the usual requirements. An action of sort is still required, and such objects are mostly specialized for one specific task. However when using an enchanted object the needed resources and time required for the magic is reduced considerably. These objects are still rare though, as they are costly and difficult to make.
There is more to go on about magic, but more in depth explanations will be saved for their own special segments.
Nallan
The kingdom of Nallan is one of the eastern most kingdoms on the continent. To the east of it are vast plans that stretch beyond the known world. To its south is the Garlac Republic, it's long term rival, and to it's north and north west are the kingdoms of Burgròn and Filtor, with mountains creating an natural barrier to the west.
After repealing an invasion from Garlac, Nallan was able to push south and gain territory along the coast, breaking free from it's 100 year land locked status. Once a sizable port had been constructed, the king sent out emissaries to as many nations across the sea as he could and quickly established a major trade route through the kingdom. Merchants from the far south sailed to Nallan, to take their wares on an overland route up north to trade with the northern kingdoms. Nallan soon became a place where merchants and traders from all over the world could meet and make exchanges between goods, and the kingdom itself grew rich from trade tax revenue. For twenty years Nallan was considered at the height of it's economic prosperity.... Then the curse was unleashed.
The Garlac Republic
Several hundred years prior the nation of Garlac was little more then a collection of squabbling city states, with a loose heritage connecting them to the Rovalda Empire of old. However, pressure from repeated naval invasions from a nation across the waters forced the city states to merge their armies together into a larger army. This confederacy later gain considerable public and political support, and eventually members made moves to consolidate the untied force permanently into a republic. The Garlac republic has since then enjoyed a relative stability, held together by a unified religion, and a strong military force. Over the centries it's gained a bit of a rivalry with it's northern neighbor of Nallan. Differences in religion and governing styles cause some prejudice, but the real tension comes from various disputes over sea trade routes and the mines positioned along Nallan's western mountains. Twenty years ago they made a push into Nallan for those very mines, only to be repealed and lose ground themselves.
