Super Robot Wars: Original Generations RP General Interest Thread

What is Super Robot Wars, you might ask? Wikipedia has a nice answer for you

Super Robot Wars,or Super Robot Taisen, abbreviated as SRW) is a series of tactical role-playing video games produced by the Japanese gaming company, Banpresto, a division of Bandai, for various video game consoles and video game handheld consoles. The games' main feature is the use of mecha units from multiple Japanese anime and manga titles, mixing them together in a battle simulation and adding a complex plot involving some of their respective storylines, characters, and backgrounds. Another feature is a simple menu interface that can be understood by the gamer, even if he or she does not know how to read Japanese.

So, its a game series, from Japan Why should I RP this?

Oh, but it is in English!

The creators, Banpresto, released a complete, translated version of the Original Generation version, which contain only only orignal characters. The non OG games are sort of like official crossover fanfiction, with Heero meeting Domon Kashu in the MX games, or Shinji Akari piloting EVA 01 with Rodger the Negotiator covering him with Big O in Destiny. To make sure all these anime shows cross over sucessfully, they have established a general timelime.

So, what's the story?

It is two hundred years after the beginning of the Space Era, when human civilization on Earth began expanding into space. However, by the start of the 21st century, two meteors struck the planet, sending humanity into chaos. By the year 179 of the Space Era, secret technology, dubbed Extra-Over Technology, or EOT, was discovered by the Earth Federal Government within a third meteor that hit Earth in the Marquesas Islands of the South Pacific. Dr. Bian Zoldark, head of the EOTI Institute (Extra-Over Technological Investigative Institute), had evidence the creators of the EOT were heading to Earth, in order to reclaim it...or worse, invade the planet. In order to defend humanity from extraterrestrial threats, the government begins to research and develop humanoid mecha called Personal Troopers.

The alien race that created the EOT, the Aerogaters, attacked an Earth ship sent out to investigate their presence in the far reaches of the solar system. This skirmish ends in a defeat for the Aerogaters, prompting the Earth government to negotiate with them. Talks are arranged to take place at a secret facility in Antarctica, but the event is targeted by a rogue faction called the Divine Crusaders. The Divine Crusaders destroy the Aerogater delegation, then turn on the Earth forces. Bian Zoldark, the faction's leader, uses this opportunity to rebel against the Earth government, in hopes of establishing a viable defense for Earth from the Aerogaters and future invaders.

I think I'll GM this one, and our Enemy today is a combined force, coming from the very darkness of Space... The Others. The Others, are a collective hive of foes, from Giants to massive Alien Fleets This all starts, sometime in the near future, at the highly advanced high school in a small city, somewhere outside of Tokyo...

Or, do you want to already be in the military? Well then, We go to the US of A, at Edwards Air Force base, at the site of the new Ship Launching, of the SDF class. However, we see an expected attack, and you are the only thing that stands in the way of Earth's Invading Army

How do we fight back? Its simple. Pick a Machine from any of the basic types, or PM me if you have something in mind.

A Lion

he main production unit for the Divine Crusaders, the DCAM-004 Lion is the product of collaboration between four scientific and industrial institutions: the Extra-Over Technological Investigative Institute, the Tesla Leicht Institute, Project Terrestrial Dream and Isurugi Industries. Its codename is derived from the name of its operating system, LIEON, the shortened term of LIEOonN, or Learning-automation Integrated EO-technology and conventional maNeuvering.

      Body-mounted guns on the torso of the Lion for quick strafing attacks.
    * Homing Missiles
      A small salvo of long range missiles from an arm-mounted launcher.
    * Railgun
      A long range assault gun designed to easily penetrate enemy armor.

The Lion's main weapons are much stronger than the other PTs around, but it lacks in melee abilities, and so, it is usually escorted by the main melee mecha.. the Genphest Type S


The first humanoid mobile weapon and the first in the Personal Trooper line. The Type-S (where the S stands for Strength) focuses on melee combat, with increased armor and equipped with high-powered weapons, but yields less speed and mobility compared to the Type-R. Since it was the first in the Gespenst line, the Type-S would heavily influence future Gespensts and Personal Troopers created after it, as well as a model for the Grungust series of super robots.

      Standard missiles used for long range attacks.
     * Plasma Cutter
      A standard energy blade used for melee combat.
     * Blaster Beam
      A high-powered, short-range beam shot from the chest of the Gespenst Type-S. Similar to the Grungust's Final Beam attack.

These aren't the only choices to fight in however. We recently finished production on a "Transformable Fighter" called a Valkyrie. These are still new, so some bugs need to be worked from the systems. The 0 Type is ready for your use, however it CANNOT be used in space, so be warned pilots! There are 2 VF-1's ready though, but they are still in America.

The VF-0 is the an advanced prototype for the VF-1 Valkyrie which served as a flight test unit and later in 2008 as a front-line fighter, before the Valkyrie's mass production in November 2008. In most respects, the VF-0 resembled the VF-1, although its legs were longer because the EGF-127 conventional turbofan engines used by the fighter were much larger than the Thermonuclear engines of the VF-1

This Weapon fires 1 small missile, which then fires 10 smaller missiles at the Target
   *Prototype "Laser Cannon"
A Beam of coherent Light Particles Fires and damages the Target
    *12 Standard AIM-132 ASRAAM anti Air Missiles
A Heat Seeking Missile that tracks down the target by its Infrared emissions.
    *35 mm Gunpod (Rifle in Battleoid Mode)
A Mounted weapon fires 35mm rounds at the target, possibly destroying it.

The VF-1 however, is "The best STARFIGHTER" to hit the skies, so far.

My character's more than ready to use a Super, in all likelihood. I mean, sure, he could use a Real Robot, like a heavily modified Gespenst S, but he's not a soldier, just a very disturbing person who happens to repossess mechs, fix em up, sell some, and pilot others. Note, however, that he hates to spend money on more missiles, so would most likely stick to mechs that rely on beam and energy weaponry. Just don't make him angry, or those clicks you hear might be the last thing you ever hear. Since your campaign doesn't seem to have started yet, think there's a way you could insert me somehow? Again, note that mine's 100% civilian, with no military connection other than his parents having died during a battle.
