This is an old roleplay tried on another site, but unfortunately never finished. But I wanna try again, so seeing if I can garner enough interest from this. Feel free to ask questions.
Plot:
In the year 3680 humanity has finally perfected the use of lightspeed engines. Called the Hyden Engines. Named after Professor Nicholas Hyden. Humanity has explored the neighbouring galaxies and formed alliances. The world is somewhat at peace with a recent treaty uniting Canada and USA. The UK is the most powerful country with it fantastic Panetheon Armada to protect from the stars.
Our story begins when The Demeter a secondary Cruiser with 500 fighters and 3500 people on board catch a distress signal from a new galaxy. Rather than call Earth they abandon the fleet. Captain Rigg was always a reckless one.

What follows leads to ship being disabled in a unknown galaxy without means to get back and the crew finds themselves without a captain and no means of contacting for help.

As mentioned done this before, but other than plot point of Captain dying is essential.
Basically the distress signal turns out to be a bomb and damages the ship badly.

maybe, after they limp around for a few months they meet a another ship or fleet and they join to help the demeter get home or something

Well it's a galaxy unhabited by humans as it's totally unknown, title of it would be 'Location Unknown: Mission Failed. it's unlikely they'd find humans, the lightspeed engines are down and the ship only has basic movement function. Situation likely to get worse.
