Time & Relation to Hogwarts: The Battle of Hogwarts occurred 2 May, 1998. It's conclusion saw the partial destruction of the school and it's grounds. Orion, along with many other international wizarding schools, opened its doors to those students displaced during the school's repair, and to anyone else interested in attending the school. We can assume that our roleplay takes place in the present year, 2015. Therefore our darling students would be those born in the year and those on either side of the Second Wizarding War's end. Those who come from the United Kingdom might have had older family members - parents, grandparents etc - involved in the battle, though many also might not. In the present time Hogwarts is once again repaired, with the next generation attending just as our students attend Orion.
Getting to Orion: Organising the arrival of hundreds of students from across the globe is a logistical nightmare. Thankfully magic offers a handy solution. All international students are expected to find their own way to Australia, though the school has coordinated networks of floo powder and portkeys that are commonly used by many. From Australia a magical ship ferries the students to Orion, magic allowing the vessel to complete the long voyage in only an hour. Those students coming from other countries in the pacific region are given information of smaller vessels leaving from their closest ports.
Orion Island: Happily situated between New Zealand and Australia, Orion sits on an island magically shielded from muggle technology. It shares the island with
Mākutu, a quaint little village which serves much the same purpose as Hogsmeade does to Hogwarts. While an Island, don't mistake it for tropical. The island has a temperature climate with four distinct seasons, with summer (December - February) reaching an average temperature of 25 °C (77 °F) and the winter average being 12 °C (54 °F).
Orion Institute: The school itself sits on a ledge of rock above a picturesque cove, in which the ships bringing students to the school dock and depart. A winding pathway leads up to a sprawling lawn where it splits, one path heading to the school's grand entrance, while the other heads through a thick forest to Mākutu. Access to the beach and forest is forbidden to students without appropriate supervision. The school building is an old castle, as magical and full of secret passages as any other school. Staircases are prone to moving, suits of armour change positions in the night, and magical waterfalls appear at random to drench unwary students. Phoenicis and Pegasi dormitories are found in separate towers and both accessed by passwords, Phoenicis in the East Tower which catches the sun every morning, and Pegasi in the North Tower which overlooks the island. Centaurus' dormitory is a snug series of rooms beside the expansive library, and opened by reciting a short piece of literature of the door's desired theme. Draconis can be found beneath the castle, with a large window through the cliff face offering a view of the cove below, and a weekly changing spell needed to enter.
