It was a beautiful departure day from Australia when Flight 76 first took off, heading for New York’s JFK airport. Not a cloud in the sky, and crystal blue water below. The plane was full, every seat filled with a variety of people from all walks of life. There were those in the front of the plane, the first class flyers with the reclining chairs and 3 course meals. And then there were those in the back, with the rather uncomfortable seats and the occasional crying babies that prevented a decent sleep. No matter who you were though, what was about to happen effected all in the same.

Flight 76 had been in the air for around 4 hours when the seat belt light lit up, with the captain of the plane coming on over the intercom. “Attention all passengers, a storm is up ahead, there will be slight turbulence. I suggest to stay in your seats until we pass through this,” he said, the tone in his voice anything but a normal calm which one would hope to expect from the man in power. The flight attendants were no where in sight, which some were finding to be odd. And within minutes, the plane was consumed into some dark grey clouds. Fog was all to be seen if one tried to look out the window, which many where attempting to do with little luck. And the longer they were in the dark clouds, the shakier the plane had become.

An eerie silence settled through the plane as soon as the emergency light turned on. One could here a pin drop as eyes searched for something comforting to believe in, waiting for answer that wasn’t there. The captain coming back on over the intercom broke the quiet: “In all honesty we are facing engine problems; prepare for an emergency landing in the ocean.” There was no way to put it simply, the plane was going down.

The main thought on everyone’s mind was “Why today, why me?” Death was creeping closer each mile the plane began to dive through the air. People cried, panicked, prayed, but most importantly, held on.

The impact on the water killed most of the passengers. Only a hand full survived the crash, escaping through the exit doors and using their seat cushions as floating devices. Luckily it was light enough to where they could see an island in the distance, or else all were sure to die floating out in the freezing water.

Those that chose to fight for their lives managed to swim to the deserted island several miles in the distance, staying close together despite what danger was swimming below them. With no strength left, the group of strangers made it to the shore. This is where the story begins.

Though his appearance was the first thing that everyone noticed, he was still a laid back guy, he had his moments in the military when there was no time whatsoever, and he found that he would rather just be calm and enjoy life. He is just like everyone else, no matter the looks, and he has problems just like everyone else, hes just a little more level headed about it, he is good at what he does, Survive even in the most serious of conditions.

History:
Damien is a former soldier, in the Special Forces, always accused of being a pretty boy while in the service, due to that fact he did a little modeling on the side to help out back home. He spent his career working with other armed forces, training them in the same manner that the soldiers were trained in the United States, his most recent endeavors led him to Australia to work with the soldiers there. He was there to train them in weapons, foreign and domestic, and survival tactics, he was one of the best, but there were always better out there, he didn’t dangle that carrot, he had learned his place in the long run before he had gotten to where he was currently. His girlfriend back home accepted that he was, who he was and that he would do what he needed to pay the bills, so even if she was anxious about him leaving, she would deal, because when he returned it was always worth the wait, the fact that he wouldn’t be deployed again due to his contract ending, though he would still work with the soldiers on another less dangerous contract, made her happy, though any long period of time when he was away, she didn’t like.

After the training period was over, he had packed up, and set out to the airport, calling Andrea saying that it wasn’t going to be much longer till they got to see each other again, though the fact was that they video chatted almost every night, and with that phone call he was on his way back home, after the waiting was done for the plane, bad thing was that he got pushed back to a later flight, and that flight was Flight 76, to New York.

Synopsis: This isn't how I pictured my birthday

Description

Occupation: Employee at Sage's Coffee house

Personality
When Iris was younger her parents always told her to slow down, enjoy life to the fullest. She'd energetic and outgoing, always spontaneous when it comes to decision making and an information gatherer. She wasn't popular but she did have an array of friends from every social status. She's a big book reader, but also finds just getting out and learning about the way the world works is the best way to figuring things out. She has an odd sense of fashion but loves wearing scarves her blue jean jacket. She can hold a secret but more often than not she forgets which is a good thing. She has a sense of humor but lacks in telling jokes, some find her oddly confusing at times. She does tend to think on a one track mind at times, but if given direction she can do wonders. She does suffer from panic attacks if she gets too worked up.

History
Iris' parents wanted her to have a lot of opportunities in life. On her twenty first birthday they bought her tickets to Australia where she stayed with an Aunt for a year before deciding it was time to head back to civilization. Hopping the last plane back to New York Iris' was anxious to return and see her parents whom she spoke to on the phone before boarding. She didn't know that was the last time she'd hear their voices as the pilot overhead announced that they were entering a storm. In minutes the plane was suddenly covered in blackness and the pilot later announced that they'd have to make an emergency landing in the ocean. Stumbling to get her pills out of her bag she took two and clung to her bag as the plane went down. The last thing she remembered was the screams of the other passengers around her, the babies cries and the roaring of the plane as it came in contact with the water. Blackness, wondering if she was dead Iris awoke to find herself washed up on shore, her bag around her shoulder. She later found she wasn't the only one alive and although she was thankful not to be alone, she was unsure of how they'd survive until help came. IF it ever came that is. Thankfully her Aunt had taught her to live off the land methods which she would now have to put into use. Can she and the others survive or will this be like the fake television shows where they tear each other apart to survive. Luckily she found her medicine was unscathed in the crash so she had a good month's worth of her meds. It was time that they relied on one another to get through this or perish before help arrives.

"Well folks.....seems were screwed..."

DESCRIPTION
Age: 20

Occupation: Film Student

Paul often dresses in cargo shorts and prefers Hawaiian shirts, every wardrobe choice he makes appears to be solidly for comfort but in reality is also for function as his cargo shorts carry a multitude of useful odds and ends.

PERSONALITY
Paul is most often quiet and non assertive but will take a leadership position if a better candidate is not available, he suffers under "white knight syndrome" or the insatiable psychological need to fix others problems while ignoring his own. He prefers to be alone for the most part but has a soft spot for children.
Paul also suffers from manic depression which leads to him having explosive anger problems although he usually keeps it in check with meditation and generally has a handle on his emotions. He dosent like change and will assert his own ways if he feels a better solution is not being supplied.

PERSONALITY
Jared isn't technically shy, but he does like to be by himself. He calls and sees himself as a rebel, doing this against the grain because he hates to conform. Almost self-centered at times, he takes care of himself first before thinking of helping others. Survival of the fittest is how he takes life. Tragic things that bother most people don't bother him, and it some aspects, excites him. He doesn't particularly get along with other people that well.

Likes/Dislikes:

Likes to smoke, almost a pack a day. Drive fast cars, be by himself, draw in his sketch book, listen to classic rock, and skateboard.

Dislikes annoying airheads, responsibilities, group work, and situations that make him feel vulnerable.

EQUIPMENT
When the plane crashed, he managed to save his carry on baggage. In side the luggage was one new pack of Camels cigarettes, a pair of sunglasses, his sketch book /pens (which were soaking wet because of the water), and some clothes.

HISTORY
Jared lived in Australia his entire life, and this trip to New York was going to be an escape from that life. Not that he didn't like Australia, but he hated his family. They were wealthy white collar parents who never were around the home. Having been the only child, he was always alone but he got used to that and grew to like the solitude. Not having the best social skills, his sarcastic rebel attitude tends to keep people away from him. New York seemed to be his dream city, where he believed there would be more people like him there. His parents gave him some cash, the only thing he is ever really thankful to get from them, and let him go.

Sometimes referred to as the 'text book blond' by some friends, she has her slow moments, but in general is intelligent. She enjoys to read and learn, when she has the time. Tiffany wakes up every morning with enough energy as if coffee was in her blood, the true heart of a New Yorker. She is a kind soul, but can have her spoiled/bratty moments- it goes with the role of being a model/actress. Partly Jackal, partly Hide, she can either be your dear friend or your worst nightmare. She gets scared very easily, so as soon as the plane began to crash down she went into panic mode.

The photos would appear in July's Sport's Illustrated edition, her biggest job yet. She was on her way back to New York when the plane went down, changing her life forever. She was seated in first class and managed to escape out the plane's entrance door. Scared out of her mind, she depended on the few other survivors to help her through.

History:
Liam has lived in the state of New York with his mother and father all his life. He flew to Australia with his parents just this year in order to visit his grown-up sister and her new baby. His sister had moved to Australia just two years ago when she had gotten married. His parents decided to take advantage of the trip as a family vacation, and so they spent a month and a half in Australia before taking the flight back home. Liam had loved the vacation and seeing his sister, but was ready to come back home.

Personality:
Though Liam's parents would be happiest if he excelled academically, all Liam wants to do is play sports and spend time outdoors. He loves anything athletic, anything where he is up and moving. Because of this he is a nuisance to his teachers and some people have suggested he get checked out for ADHD, but his parents think that is nonsense. Their solution is to restrict Liam from the things he loves like Boy Scouts and Soccer practice unless he gets the grades they want. He feels like he just isn't able to do that, and so he resents his parents for not letting him do extracurricular activities. As a result he acts up and often gets into trouble. He really just wants his parents' approval, but because they make that so seemingly unattainable, he has insecurities to struggle with.

Liam carried nothing at all when the plane crashed, except a handful of crayons he had been drawing with, which he immediately dropped on impact. On his escape from the plane he had only the life jacket his father had made sure to secure onto him. However, in a zipped-up pocket he did have a stash of gum, some rubber bands, and a few other crayons in his other pocket, but nothing else.

Likes/Dislikes:
Likes sports, the outdoors, running/swimming/any physical activity, sweet food, comics, playing with friends, pranks.

Dislikes sitting still, schoolwork, nagging, spicy food, practicing instruments, bugs.

Now that it has begun, just want to give everyone a heads up.

There are still a few more people who might be joining soonish. If everyone can make sure to read each other's posts, as well their characters profiles, that would be great, so that we all have insight on each person!

I love how the roleplay's coming. :D While my character is asleep all I can do is enjoy reading everyone else's posts, (which I'm loving the frequency of! It doesn't seem too fast-paced to me) and while I had nothing to do in the meantime I became curious about the plants and vegetation that people have mentioned so far, and I thought it would be fun to speculate where in the world our island could be based off of that info.

We have mentioned (as far as I can remember): palm, coconut, mango, pine, banana, and okra

- From what I've looked up, palm and coconut grow in practically all areas with tropical conditions.

- Mango trees are native to northern India, Burma, and western Malaysia, though now it is grown throughout the tropics.

- Different species of pine grow all over the northern hemisphere, but also in Southeast Asia.

- Banana plants are indigenous to portions of India, Southeast Asia and northern Australia, though today they grow in Africa and N&S America also.

- Okra is native to Africa, though now it is cultivated in other tropical areas.

Assuming that plants haven't been brought by humans to the "Island of Lost Souls", and that their seeds have been carried by air or water, it seems that pine really restricts our area to somewhere around Southeast Asia. All the others have native sources somewhat around there too, except for Okra. But seeds for Okra might have migrated there as a result of cultivation of the plant by humans around Southeast Asia, so that works too.

Of course our characters don't have Google on hand as I do, so they most likely wouldn't know all of this. But I just felt like looking it up for fun. :)

I thought this was really interesting - How different banana looks when grown in the wild as opposed to how it does in the supermarket:

Bananas originally had huge seeds, and it has been cultivation that has made their seeds so much smaller, and that has made them so much longer. I know my character will be surprised if he ever comes across these!

Of course, no one has to commit to my ocean-around-Southeast-Asia speculations. :) I just thought all this was interesting, and I didn't have any posting to do in the meantime so I thought I might as well look it up.

I never researched that much into it, but thanks for looking that up! I kind of made up this Island, it is supposed to be somewhere in the middle between the Pacifc Ocean from Austalia to the States, but it got off path and the engine failed so they are somewhere east of Austalia. The details don't have to be toooo specific. I do really appreciate those pictures though! It's good to visualize things.

Sorry I'm late.

Character: Devon Mikado
Age: 22
Weight: 220
Height: 6"2"
Occupation: Psych student, Singer

History :

Devon is the son of an African American father (David Munroe) and a Japanese American mother (Saya Mikado). His mother's parents disapproved of their relationship, and Saya cut all ties with her family to be with the man she loved. David, a Marine, was killed in action before they could be married, and before she was able to tell him about her pregnancy, and as such, when Devon was born, he was given her last name.

Unable to financially care for her son, Saya went to her father, Tite Mikado for support, but he agreed to care for her son, legally adopting him, stating that she had dishonored the family by her actions, and would not be allowed to return home. Saya reluctantly agreed, and Devon was raised by his Grandparents, only allowed to occasionally interact with his mother, and only under supervision.

Tite was a businessman, and as he had no sons, it was intended for Devon to inherit his business in his mother's place. As such, he attended only the best schools and had all aspects of the business world hammered into his head from childhood.He learned martial arts, how to read and write music, and play several different instruments, as his grandfather thought these thing would teach him discipline and precision. He was taught to read and write English, Japanese, French, and Spanish, as it was thought these skills would be useful for interacting with potential clients once he entered the business world.

Upon entering High School, of course, Devon became rebellious, and constantly fought with Tite about his future. He became a problems child, getting into fights, skipping classes, sneaking out of the house, drinking.. whatever he could do to undermine his grandfather's efforts.

Once he graduated high school, he decided that he had no interest in business, and would study Psychology in college instead. This, of course caused a huge blowout, and he was disowned. He left New York and moved to Seattle Washington, where he easily found work to pay his own way through school, and because he loved music, he started a band.

It was on the night he received his Bachelor's in Psychology that his grandfather broke their four year silence and showed up at his doorstep, apologetic, and offering to pay for a vacation abroad as a reward for all his hard work. Devon immediately turned him down and sent him away, but after a call from his Grandmother, Haruka, he reconsidered.

He chose Australia as his destination, and thus began the chain of events that ended in him waking up on the island.

Personality:

Devon has a quite a few issues as a result of his childhood. He has issues with any sort of authority, and tends to be very withdrawn and antisocial. He hates to rely on others for anything, not wanting to feel that he owes anything to anyone.
His problems with his grandfather, and his treatment of his mother have resulted in anger issues as well. In fact, the only thing he kept that was ever given to him was the pendant his grandfather gave him with the kanji for "patience" inscribed on it. He keeps this as a reminder to himself of what he lacks most.

hey, il get a post up asap... iv been moving again, all i seem to do is move... this time from my flat back home.. soon il be out in africa again, but fret not, i still have internet, yay! i based the plants on anything that will grow along the equator, so its a bit miss matched, but it is stuff that will grow in a jungle.. i checked! plus im kind of next to the jungleish when im in africa.. though most of its been cut down :) im looking forward to my next post.. sorry you guys have to wait!

I'm in three currently, which are hard enough to keep up with lol plus, like many of us, college has started back up and i've already been given a lot of hw to do! Grrr evil professors.
