Merlot's Bar lies deep in the shady recesses of the magical world. It's patrons are the scariest, creepiest, and most dangerous beings on this plane of reality. Tourists stay away and the weak hide in fear, because only the tough and brave can enter here. Walk inside and you'll find wicked step-mothers, cursed princes, bridge goblins, and angry giants. Oh, yeah... and you.
Rules:
- No godmodding or power-playing. Only give your character a reasonable amount of power, and give every character plenty of flaws.
- Romance & violence are both allowed, to an extent. If it gets out of control, or overly pointless, the bouncer will kick your characters out.
- Each player is allowed up to 3 characters.
- Keep your characters creative and original. Your character should be different from everyone else's in both appearance and personality. We don't need 16 blond elves. This is the same for dark characters. The run-of-the-mill psychotic evil dude is boring.
- Enjoy yourself and feel free to be a different as you want.
Races:
- Witches/Wizards - Humans who use 'magik'. Witches draw their power from the earth and they believe that magic should never be used to hurt another, only to protect yourself. Witches who have gone bad are called Sorcerers.
- Warlocks - Warlocks are people born with magic in their blood and never have to learn it. They exist outside the good/bad argument between Witches and Sorcerers, and simply use their magic however they please. The word “warlock”, contrary to popular belief, does not just refer to males.
- Sorcerers/Sorceresses - Humans who use 'sorcery'. Sorcerers typically draw their power from the night and from celestial objects. They're known for their powers of transformation and cursing.
- Necromancers - Priests that perform powerful and terrible death magic. This usually involves raising soulless un-dead minions.
- Vaudun Priests - Vaudun Priests specialize in the voodoo category of sorcery.
- Elves - Beautiful human-like beings with pointy ears and acute senses. They're deeply tied to the earth, particularity forests, and able to perform some magic. Elves are inhumanly strong and fast.
- Faeries - Known as the 'Gentry' or the 'Fair Folk', faeries are mischievous by nature. They are incapable of lying, and they are weak to iron. Faeries come in many forms. (For more information see the Faerie Wiki.) ((This may be any European faerie.))
- Goblins - Gnarled little creatures that typically inhabit bridges and wells. They're greedy and they love riddles.
- Dwarves - Human-like beings with acute senses that stand between three-foot and four-foot tall. They're known for their craftsmanship and their long beards. Dwarves are inhumanly strong.
- Giants - Human-like beings with that are usually 15-18 feet in height. Giants like living in high elevation. Merlot's has a large outdoor eating area to accommodate giants.
- Vampires - Blood-drinking beings that can't stand sunlight or garlic. Vampires cannot cross running water or be seen in mirrors, or intrude on private residences. Fire reduces them to ash, and they can’t enter holy ground. Merlot's supplies bottled blood for vampires.
- Shape-shifter - Some shape-shifters can turn into any animal, some can only turn into one. Any shape-shifter whose change is tied to the lunar-cycles is known as a 'Were'.
- Yōkai - Monsters and spirits from the far-east. These beings come in many different forms. (For more information see the Yōkai Wiki.)((This can be any far-eastern spirit.))
- Dragons/Dragonkin - Large, winged reptilian creatures that are known to have magical properties and abilities, such as breathing fire and flying. They come in many forms.
Djinn - Also known as genies. They are said to usually occupy a parallel world to that of humans, but have crossed over before. Each djinn is assigned to a human to guard from birth.
Spirits - Undead people that roam the world of the living. (Demons and angels will be considered extreme types of good/bad spirits rather than separate beings.)
Merfolk - A general term for ocean-dwelling, sentient beings.

Merlot's Staff:
((2 'Barmaid' & 1 'Cook' positions are open. No application needed.))
Name:
Merlot
Character Type:
NPC - Bartender
Age:
Unknown
Race:
Warlock
Physical Description:
Merlot is short, haggard, and old. His long white mane extends from a receding hairline, and his eyebrows are bushy enough to house small animals in. He has one eye that is sightless from a fight with a banshee, and the other is a creepy sea-green.
Merlot can often be seen wearing a cloak or a robe, as well as a pendant and/or several rings.
History:
Merlot's past is vastly unknown. He opened up his bar about 15 years ago and has kept the riffraff at bay with his creepy smile ever since. He's a good bartender and host, as long as you don't cause trouble, but if you tick him off then you'll find more than just alcohol in your drink.

Name:
Caoimhe
Character Type:
NPC - Barmaid
Age:
167
Race:
Elf
Physical Description:
Caoimhe is one of the loveliest faces in Merlot's. Her long dark hair is always braided and her pretty eyes are framed by thick dark eyelashes. However, don't let that pretty face fool you, because behind it is the personality of a pit viper. If you mess with Caoimhe she's likely to bite your face off.
History:
Caoimhe may be much older than she looks, but she is still young in elf terms. She was born and raised in a forest, and lived there for nearly 100 years. However, after reaching maturity, Caoime left the forest in rebellion against Elven society. After about 50 years of wandering she settled down and began working at Merlot's. No one knows what she does in her spare time, but she often brings animals to work with her.

Name:
Myrmidon "Myrm" Sledgefist
Character Type:
NPC - Bouncer
Age:
46
Race:
Dwarf
Physical Description:
Myrm might be short, but he's no weakling. 3'5 and 167 pounds of pure muscle, this guy won’t allow any destruction of the bar or harassment of the barmaids. He rarely washes his mess of wiry orange hair and beard; so, he kind of smells, and he can almost always be found sitting in a corner with a wood-cutter's axe.
History:
Myrm is well known as some of the best muscle-for hire around. He was once a blacksmith, but decided on entering the bodyguard profession after a few years of infuriating metal-pounding. He's been working as Merlot's bouncer for the last 3 years. The position of Bouncer is avoided by most since Merlot’s last bouncer was sent to the hospital with 15 broken bones, but Myrm defiantly has guts.

Name:
Canjie
Character Type:
Active Character - Patron
Age:
335
Race:
Cat/Sorceress
Physical Description:
Canjie is not just any cat. Then again, you probably already noticed this because she can use magic and talk. Her long fur is always clumped and matted from the refusal to lick herself, and she usually wears a tail ring or a pentacle necklace. She doesn't get along well with most people (because she’s irritable); yet, she and Merlot seem to be close friends.
History:
Canjie's birth name was Maeva. Long ago she was one of the strongest sorceresses in the world, and her name was feared by every man, woman, and child. However, in her power Maeva became arrogant. She believed herself indestructible, and so she was reckless.
Details of the incident in question are blurry, but angry faeries, a messed up curse, and one really pissed off frog were involved. Now, Maeva is an immortal cat named Canjie.
