Pirates!

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby NadieQuerida on Sat Nov 22, 2008 9:59 pm

IC Thread: post381990.html#p381990

A treasure map leading potentially to a luxurious future has fallen in the hands of one former Captain, Morgan Vane, who'd retired from his pirating life at an early age. The sea still called to him, and perhaps this was the final push needed to get him back on deck. Now with a destination in mind, he starts looking around to assemble a crew for himself, and now that he's finally found a vessel, he can start. With a first mate at hand, he searches the local taverns, marketplace, follows word of mouth, and hunts down old contacts for a share of the treasure if they can keep his ship afloat. Which, ultimately, ends up including a whole cast of characters that join the crew for different reasons: money, adventure, love, escape from slavery or an arranged marriage, interest...

The RolePlay will start with the Captain hunting for crew members, which is how the characters will be introduced. From then on, it's a group effort!

Rules are basic: use common sense, no divinity complexes, no killing other characters without express permission from the typist, and no one liners. All posts must have basic grammar and punctuation. No chatspeak, either! Also, please stay within the Medieval genre. No future, fantasy.

A crew usually consists of most of the following, if you'd like ideas for your characters:
-Surgeon (treats the injuries, including amputation if necessary)
-Gunner (in charge of the ship's canons and weapons)
-Carpenter (makes repairs on the ship, and fake limbs in case of amputation, working alongside the surgeon)
-Cook
-Boatswain (keeps track of supplies such as rum, water, food, gunpowder)
-Regular crew member

A variety of characters from all backgrounds are encouraged!! Gypsies, nobility, ex-slaves, relatives of existing characters, ex-soldiers, almost anything. The more different, the better the RP. But reasonable, too.

Character sheet:
Name:
Age:
Gender:
Reason for joining the crew:
Position (Cook, surgeon, gunner, regular):
Pirate name (optional):
Appearance (picture encouraged, but optional):
Bio/Background:
Additional (weapons, personality, quirks, phobias, etc):

Name: Morgan Vane
Age: 24 years old
Gender: Male
Reason for joining the crew: To find the treasure!
Position (Cook, surgeon, gunner, regular): Captain
Pirate name (optional): Blue Timber
Appearance (picture encouraged, but optional): Pale skin, ruby colored eyes, and an unusual shade of green hair make up most of the man's physical description. He's not that tall (standing at 5"10'), and his physique is lean and toned because a childhood spent in rough weather. He usually adorns himself in worn, but rich, fine clothes that have usually seen better days: a heavy, golden-hemmed scarlet coat, black tricorne, a fine shirt and breeches with well made shoes. He also supports gold hoops in his ears, and a gold ring set with an authentic diamond on the index finger of his left hand. And, the classic eyepatch; he's never seen without it.
Image
Bio/Background: Morgan was born an illegitimate son of an innkeeper, and a female pirate; his childhood was spent with his mother at sea, where he learned of the shady trade of pirating. When he became of age (13 years old), he joined the crew of his mothership and eventually learned the art of map making. When hunting a particularly juicy merchant ship, however, Morgan's mother was killed during the fighting, and a year later at age 17, Morgan was marooned (left stranded at a deserted island) with a slash on his left eye, which would soon become infected. For years, he seemed to have disappeared off the face of the earth, but has now returned to civilization to head out for sea once more.
Additional (weapons, quirks, phobias, etc): As customary for a pirate, Morgan has a few pistols hidden away on his person, and a few knives tucked away in the folds of his clothing. During the years after his marooning, he acquired a little green parrot, Bonnet, who apparently seems to be the love of his life. He is quite attached to the bird, but the thing has yet to say it's first words. Don't worry, Morgan's working on it...

-Name:Tanya Felan
-Age: 20
-Gender: Female
-Reason for joining the crew: Fell in love with the sea. This is what she does
-Position (Cook, surgeon, gunner, regular): Surgeon
--Appearance (picture encouraged, but optional): Well tanned, light green eyes with flecks of gold, Dark, long burgandy hair. Kind of scrawny, but well fed. She's not tall, but not short. Around 5"7' - 5"8'. She usually wears black pants, knee high brown leather boots, and a boat necked ruffled white shirt. Her hair is usually tied up in a low ponytail with a soiled red ribbon.
--Bio/Background: She was brought up by her mother, a reknowned medicine woman, and her father, a alcoholic and abusivein a small inland town. She was raised to be polite, knowledgable, and witty. When she was 15 or so, her father came home completely drunk brandishing a knife. Her mother yelled at her to leave and so she did. She came back the next morning to find her mother dead and her father nowhere to be found. From then on, Tanya travelled from town to town, helping local doctors and contributing to their practices with her mothers' unique remedies. Eventually she made her way to the shore at 17 and fell in love with the sea. For the last few years, she's made her living on various ships as surgeon for pirates and merchant ships alike.
--Additional (weapons, personality, quirks, phobias, etc): Though she might seem polite and quiet, she knows how to protect herself. So, along with her various medical supplies, she hides several knives on her person. At all times. While she has nothing agaisnt those who use them, she detests guns, but is good enough with swords and her knives to well make up for it.

Appearance (picture encouraged, but optional): His past lives before becoming a pirate had left him with a sinew toned, slender figure which Kel himself never paid much attention. Kel hated clothes; almost despised them. Which is why the majority of his outfits were hooded, sleeveless shirts which were split down the middle to expose his upper torso. Clothes were nothing more than a hindrance. Tribal flamed tattoos curled from his wrist, along his forearms; the only other ones were the large raven wings which covered his back. The wings were his call sign; to signify him as the man to carry the souls of the dead to their true fate.

Image

=-{}ā€¢ā€“Ā»GENERAL HISTORYĀ«-ā€¢{}-=

Kel had always been an odd child growing up; especially under the influences of his playful haphazard Father and the serious careful ways of his Mother. When at times he should be serious about grave matters, laughter had always been his key. This man never cared about whether what he did was right or wrong, he left it to the judging eyes always seeming to follow him. Eye of the beholder, let everyone else judge good and evil.. Kel would much rather have fun. Maybe he held that philosophy after his father was brutally killed after one night, his mother's enemy's found out her identity and his father was caught in the cross fire. From then on, at 15 Kel was forced to go into hiding and learning his mother's mysterious nature.

His mother and her associates wanted Kel to follow in her footsteps, trying to convince him that his fate would lead the same as his father's. Kel took the trade of small blades, his thirst for torture became overwhelming at times. At 17, Kel followed the path of his mother up until he turned 20. He thought that every kill he sought after; bringing each victim to an unimaginable death, would somehow avenge his Father. To see their very soul leave their cold empty eyes, but instead of merely getting bored of violence - it wasn't his passion nor his life. Kel wanted to cook! With his deadly talent with blades, Kel disappeared from his mother's known whereabouts to pursue this dream in culinary arts. He abandoned the title, "Shadow's Dream," (A quirky title given to him by his Mother's Guild) to travel and cook in the most extreme ways possible. He used the stealth from his mother to make a living for himself, Culinary training wasn't cheap! However, his mother's associates, out of fear that her son would turn them in put a bounty on his head. On top of that, alerting all authorities to his alternate identity. Thievery, now added with the countless acts of murder; had no where to go.

At the age of 23, Kel decided to take this life and go out to seas, where would the best place to hide be? A Pirate ship! With his culinary prowess, added with his thirst for treasure - that and being on the run; this would be the best and most opportune way to escape.

Name: Harrison "Harry" Williams
Age: 25
Gender: Male
Reason for joining the crew: Harry is the kind of person who always wants some excitement. He figured the pirate life was good for two things... finding bounties and meeting women.
Position (Cook, surgeon, gunner, regular): Gunner
Pirate name (optional): None
Appearance: Harry wears a dark blue leather coat over a black shirt, pants, boots. He stands six feet tall and has an athletic body. He doesn't appear to be the strongest kind of person, but its quite apparent that he is one who can hold is own. As for other features, he has messy black hair and hazel eyes.
Bio/Background: Harry is actually known to be a bounty hunter in certain parts of the land, and a respected one at that. He goes around, taking down most wanted criminals he deemed a true threat. However, he's also wanted something more in life. He never had a chance to go out on a true adventure, despite some interesting events that have gone on in his life.
Additional (weapons, personality, quirks, phobias, etc): Harry is a generally good person who doesn't like harming people who don't need to be hurt. He has a code of protecting civilians if need be. He's also known for being somewhat of a pervert at times.

Character sheet:
Name: Byron Atticus LeMeere
Age: 34
Gender: male
Reason for joining the crew: After losing his crew to the sea years ago, he can still feel its haunting call in his bones. He belongs to the sea, his life hers to take or leave at a whim. Hiding on land only puts off the inevitable and his heart aches for the old thrill of adventure. Plusā€¦the captain says he has a map to treasureā€¦and the tavern tab is running a bit high.
Position: Deviates between cooking, gunning, and aiding the captain in what knowledge he has (being the older pirate)
Pirate name (optional): Bloody Lemeere or Viper
Appearance (picture encouraged, but optional): Image
Bio/Background: Byron LeMeere was once feared on the sea as the dreaded Bloody LeMeere, captain of the dread ship known as The Seawolf. He was successful as a pirate captain from the age of 20 to 31 and had accrued quite a fine on his head through his gory career. But on one stormy night in April, his ship was caught in a deadly storm. For hours they rolled upon the angry sea till finally the galleon was torn apartā€¦all hands lost. Byron lost a leg in the tumult and clung to a spar of driftwood as he floated for two days upon the glassy ocean. He was picked up by a merchant vessel and traded the jewels and riches upon him ((save his swords)) in order to bribe them silent of his survival. Since then heā€™s lived off of what he had tucked away of his original horde, now only a simple drunk in a local tavern telling tales to those who listen. By now ā€˜Bloodyā€™ LeMeere has been pronounced dead with his entire crewā€¦so now he goes by Byronā€¦the name he was born with.
Weapons: Two flintlock pistols, two long golden handled cutlasses with poisoned tips, and three other daggers on his person. One in his right boot, one in his peg leg on a spring load and the other on his hip.
Phobias: Byron has an uncontrollable fear of rats and a healthy dose of fear for fire.
Quirks: Byron seems to have an obsession with keeping the ends of his swords well oiled with poison or staring out into the sea. When he gets drunk, his demeanor becomes merry and more amiable while when heā€™s sober heā€™s a bit more surly.

Re: Pirates!

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby NadieQuerida on Tue Nov 25, 2008 8:10 pm

Name: Ivy Taryn
Age: 22
Gender: Female
Reason for joining the crew: Escape from her family
Position (Cook, surgeon, gunner, regular): Boatswain, regular
Pirate name (optional): None
Appearance (picture encouraged, but optional): Although she was in the process of becoming a professional runaway, Ivy decided that if she was to become a pirate in order to accomplish it, she might as well dress like one. Hence, her wardrobe; it has the obvious gypsy touch, due to her origins. She traded in her skirts for breeches and boots, although she still has her older, more traditional clothing packed away somewhere in the tiny suitcase she'll bring along. Ivy has tanned skin, definitely not a fair complexion, and jet black hair; also, her eyes are a vibrant emerald. Her hair is almost always loose, except for when it is held at bay by a scarf or bandanna, and a few locks are braided randomly.
Image
Bio/Background: Ivy was the only child of gypsy parents who had found their fortune in spices shortly after her birth. They continued their nomadic business alongside a caravan (which included their extended family and an accompaniment of guards) until finally choosing to settle down near the outskirts of a flourishing town when she was small. For a few years, Ivy left her parents to continue traveling with her grandparents, who didn't enjoy the tame life their children had adopted, until she returned home as a young woman. Her parents, however, disapproved of her continuing on with the gypsy life (they had established a respectable trade in town) and immediately engaged her to the son of a wealthy merchant with whom they did business. Ivy was rebellious at first, until she realized that there was not much she could do alone, at which point she ran away from home and enlisted the help of her nomadic family. For a while she was able to travel under cover with the caravan, but feared that she would be endangering her relatives; so, she parted ways with them at a port town and began hunting for passage out of the country. The best option? Become a pirate.
Additional (weapons, personality, quirks, phobias, etc): Ivy is proficient in archery, but she didn't see the point of a long range weapon on deck, thus opting to bring along a rapier (she can swing it, and knows enough to stick the pointy end into the other fellow) and a well oiled leather whip. As a person, she isn't financially obsessed as some others of her race, but there is gypsy blood inside of her. She doesn't dance, and is terrified at the thought of drowning. Very appropriate for her new life...

Here's the link to the IC: post381990.html#p381990

I'm going to keep the sign up open for now, just in case someone wants to be a stow-a-way, or wants his/her character saved up from a deserted island, or perhaps he/she would like to join the crew later when the ship stops for supplies along the journey. Or maybe if we decide we need replacements for someone killed during a duel/battle >.> Jk.

Anyways, go ahead and post! There's no specific order.

Hey, mate of mine, Dashmiel there, great fella', he introduced me to this place, 'kes I'm pirate. And pirate threads, we'll they're butter - perverse butter. 30% Alcohol, I can't believe its not Vodka.

Anyway... Yeah, inside joke LOL. Anyway, yeah, anyway - when you say medieval.... I mean I respect that an all, no Orcs and Trolls looming up from places, angels swarming about, it'd be a bit messy... But you must understand, its not a pirate thread without a certain level of what we, nowdays, believe to be fable and fantasy, Y'know? The sprawling Krakens, great temples under the seven seas, castles, half submerged in water, ran by the deadliest of sea-faring thugs, the "wrath of god" thunderstorms, and the vast birds that eat ships for supper. Y'know? What pirates believed in, and in certain cases, Actually happened! We know that giant octopuses, Krakens at their finest, were existant in them centuries, we know that birds can exceed size that any woman could dream of, and if someone said they were attacked by one, whose to say they werent? And, these castles - a lot of water has passed over this ocean - we're a lot higher up now. And we've found ruins under there. We've found Dagon down there, for gods sake! There could be some sea-bandits with castles floating around back then...

So, just wondering, Y'know? Whats the plan?

Lol, Yeah.. Mr. Morgan-ness there has plenty of plans in store for the Rp. The likely hood of Kraken were discussed as a bunch of interesting events. Ah, but we don't want anything spoiled of course!

Besides that.. I'm excited that the Rp has finally started. :D Even though I've never been much of a Forum Rp, it's nice to finally do something with a bit more of a plot than the typical Rp chats running about.

I'll post in a few, I have a couple of things that need to be taken care of though. :D

Who says krakens and sea monsters don't exist? =p They're not total fantasy. [Loch Ness Monster and all...] But I see your point there about the fantasy theme and all. However, whatever the pirate lore is, it isn't fantasy. I mean, how can it be fantasy if the seamen believed their gods to be real? The sea gods, Poseidon and whoever existed once according the olden times, are a part of our history, they were a sort of religion back then. We can definitely incorporate that stuff [and more] into the RP. If pirates believed in those things at the time, of course we'll use them even if we consider them fantasy today. Anything to spice up the RP. By no fantasy I meant that nothing similar to ice-blasting demons, fallen angels, elves, unicorns, merpeople, x-ray vision....etc. It wouldn't be fun without some of the things you mentioned in your post, KarKing. There are no objections to stuff like that.

As for the plan...I don't want to set anything in concrete about how the storyline should go. I think that would make the RP a bit boring.. An unpredictable RP is funner. Fun-er? More fun?

...If anyone has any ideas they'd like to add to the RP, just suggest it here. If you guys can work with it, that's great. If you see something in someone else's post, latch onto it and make it explode. It's no fun RPing your character doing his/her own thing...better things happen if your boatswain refuses to give the cook any more spices just out of spite >_> No hard feelings, of course.......

Anyways. So far the captain has purchased his ship, and is searching for people to make up his crew. After that, character interaction will namely set the tone [obviously not everyone will get alone handsomely...I'm counting on that] and yeah. You guys decide.

Yahyahyah!! Thats cool. Yeh, see, me an' you, we're on the same wavelength ^_- Just checking, see. I'll join now!

But, just out of interest; do you include goblins as Pirate Lore? Because, I think I've heard tale of Goblins infesting caves with treasure in them, Y'know, that pirates were after. And, I always use 'em in pirate stuff, despite them being a lot less pirately considered - I mean, some of my favourite pirate charictars are goblins ^_^

I'll post a bio or whatever soon, btw.

But without those clothes. She normally wears boots as seen in the picture, black shorts or a black shirt with a white shirt with the sleeves cut off. She has a necklace with a small, golden knife on it which her father left her with.
Bio/Background: Skylar was born on December 10th to her parents, Hunter and Ellen. Hunter was a legendary pirate and although he loved his wife and Skylar, he couldn't stay from the sea. He gave them every bit of gold that he had at the time, which was a very good amount and left them, telling them he would come back again when they docked here which he wanted and planned on doing. Unfortunately, Hunter died at sea while involved in a sword fight and never made it back to visit his family although Skylar still believes that he is out there looking for her.
When Skylar turned nine her mother passed away from influenza. Skylar knew that her father wouldn't be able to find her if she went to an orphanage so she decided to fend for herself and live on the streets. It was tricky at first because Skylar had little money and hated the idea of stealing but soon she found herself a job in a kitchen where she would help clean and that gave her a bit of money although not enough. Skylar saved that money and kept herself alive by stealing which is something that she found enjoyable.
Additional (weapons, personality, quirks, phobias, etc): Skylar isn't afraid to speak her mind although it gets her into trouble. She can seem to be annoying but she never tries to do it and wants to be friends with everyone. Skylar believes that Captain Morgan knows where her father is because she does not know that he was killed years ago.

General Biography

Name: Sin Solar
Age: 37 (On a 20k Pathex-4 scale)
Race: Ghost made uv alcerhol! But yā€™wouldnā€™t know. In fact, he could just be putting it all on.
Class: Coward
Occupation: Pirate (?)

Appearance: A black leather jacket that flows more than elegantly to the dark side of his knees, he wears a top hat made of a similar leather bound smoothly by a strip of red velvet, or a similar material. On his feet he wears shoes ā€“ he couldnā€™t afford boots at the time ā€“ which were sharpened to a broad and gradual point. His shirt is plain, and quite well kept, and a deep, warm red. Heā€™s what you could callā€¦. Bluddy loaded lookinā€™.

Around his neck he even wears a tie! A black one! Its loose, though, and lies far from his collarpoint. Around his waste, he equips a belt made of the brownest of leathers ā€“ this belt sits over his shirt, but still where it would go on the beltline. On this belt, he has a few packets of cigars clipped, and a few hip-flasks and short lengths of cord with bottles of brandy tied, but these are only half noticeable, due to the jacket.

On his lower half, he equip a pair of jeans ā€“ Denim became available long before people indeed thought it deed ā€“ quite lightened by his many ā€“ billions, in fact ā€“ of adventures and travels. They cover most of his shoes, so they look like books. His closest friend only found out last week that they were just shoes!

His skin is very tanned, due to the tropical, exotic and associated climates that tend to flog the areas where his adventuring and piracy takes place. He has a short jaw-shaped ā€œPoetā€ style beard, and a wide smile that, due to a fault in his muscle construction, canā€™t retract. Not to worry, heā€™s always happy anyway! His eyes are deep blue, and his hair flows to about his shoulders, a deep black affair. His fringe is strange. It appears to be 2 dimensional, and if you see it from a profile viewā€¦ Youā€™re quite confused. It reaches in short spikes to his eyebrows.

Defining Qualities: A womanising pervert! Its impossible ā€“ impossible, its been measured ā€“ for him to pass an attractive, or indeed any lady without approaching her. It proves, however, a winning strategy. Heā€™s also dreadfully cowardly, heā€™ll run at the slightest of sounds that he wasnā€™t expecting, lest it fragmentally damages him! Not the best of pirates that way. However, in this way, he is immortal to all damage, because heā€™s taken no scars yet and it wont happen very soon. He also screams like a small child, a smallā€¦ female child. Also, heā€™s an drunk to the extreme, heā€™s a loud, boisterous, brandy-guzzling, foul-mouthed fool who knows about as much as a pig with a head injury being pursued by a pack of slavering shrews ā€“ but not in an unfriendly way!

Background: Lotsaā€™ shitā€¦ Riseā€¦

I love how you're tying into a character [Morgan, in this case] with your profile, Paramorex. Awesomeness.

I love Sin's class. Coward. Lol.

And about the goblins...it's your choice, guys. If you guys want it to be pirate lore, that's all good.
Your choice, though.
