Restarting Fateful Travels: OOC and Discussion

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Jadeling Hawkins on Sat Jan 19, 2008 12:11 am

So, as I mentioned in a PM to those involved in the original, I am likely going to reset Fateful Travels. I'm not really thrilled with the idea, because of the character development that has taken place, but the story has just pretty much tanked. So, this time, we're going to start with a little more organization (on my part) and a little more dedication all around :)
The basics of this rp:
It is medieval. Swords, knights, castles, that kind of medieval.
There will be a three sentence minimum in posts. Well developed, thought out sentences. I'm not asking for shakespeare, but if your posts resemble something in a text message...or something a particularly dull first grader would have written...work a little harder.
You must PM me to join. Don't just jump in out of the blue. Lots of reasons that go with this...if you've ever rp'ed, you probably know what I'm talking about.
No godmodding. If you absolutely must post someone else's character's actions, you MUST get permission from the character's owner BEFORE the post.
And of course all of the general rules of RPG apply.
Now then, as there is generally some confusion about this subject, I will come up with a list of acceptable races. If your character's race isn't on there, please ask permission before popping up with it. I'll probably accept, but you must ask.
In the meantime, here is the basic setup for FT's beginning. If you have any thoughts or ideas, go right ahead and respond to this thread, or PM me, or whatever.

.....

Every world and culture has its own little clutch of legends and myths. Some are beyond fantastical, with strange beasts and remarkable heroes, and some foretell or warn of events that effect even those who choose not to believe in such things. This story revolves around a particular legend in a particular world.....a world filled with magic and mayhem, good and evil, and everything in between.....
For many years and generations, there has been a legend foretelling of a time when the limits of brotherhood and peace are stretched nearly to the point of snapping. Trust between races is minimal at best, and strange beasts rove the world delighting in its sad state. At this time, a small group of mismatched travelers would band together, led by a disciple of fate, to gather five sacred, unassuming objects with various powers in order to summon to earth a golden temple. There, they would be given the final gift needed to restore peace and maintain a necessary balance to their world. But their success or failure was to be determined only by their own choices...
Now, at a time that no one expected, in a town filled with nothing special, a small group of strangers are about to become a small group of heroes, drawn together by fate....or highly unlikely chance.

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Jadeling Hawkins on Sat Jan 19, 2008 10:21 pm

Races:

Humans: Humans, just as you know them. Currently the second dominant race. Relatively widespread, and varying skin tones and hair colors. Some have been able to achieve immense magical power. Considered to be conquerors, and have the largest population.

Elves: Currently the dominant race. Tend to be shorter than humans, with large, pointed ears. Some are rumored to have extraordinarily long lives, though their secrets and old magic are kept hidden from the outside world.

Vampires: Creatures of the night. Not generally considered an actual race by the others, but they do have a form of hierarchy, and natural born vampires do exist. They are not, contrary to popular belief, strictly moving corpses. Some dark magic, ability to shape shift. Must periodically drink blood (the life force of another creature) in order to survive.

Pixies:
Tend to be mischievous and playful. Generally grow to about the length of an adult's index finger. Frequently mistaken for fairies, their larger, more people-friendly cousins. Habituate in forests.

Fairies: Strong magic, from birth. Affectionate by nature and simply adore helping others (aside from the occasional rotten apple that likes to hold grudges and curse babies), and are often requested to be godmothers/fathers and such things. As they have the ability to change their sizes, from that of a normal human or elf to that of their pixie cousins, it is unknown if they have a true size.

Imps: Diminutive creatures that delight in playing tricks and pranks. The average full grown Imp reaches a height of about three to three and a half feet. They tend to live no more than forty to fifty, and have thus developed a great talent for living life to the fullest. They worship the Goddess Relna

Dragons: Highly intelligent, remarkably powerful creatures with scales, wings, tails, the works. They generally live high in the mountains or deep underground in their caves full of gold and treasure. Have no qualms about eating one of the other races, if the occasion arises. Also consider the slaying of knights a matter of pride and bragging rights.

Draylas: A hybrid dragon/human race. Believed to be created especially by Zaeken, the God of war, in an attempt to combine the strength of a dragon with the dexterity of a human to create the perfect warrior. Despite this, they are not quite so warlike as one might assume. Sporting pointed ears, curvy facial features, claws, scaled tails and horns. Very powerful magic, nomadic in nature, generally sticking to desert and plains areas. Often used to either easily harvest magical dragon parts or as sturdy slave labor.

Dragoons: A hybrid dragon/human race. Similar to the Drayas, they are considered to have been created by Zaeken, the God of war. They, too, are rather humanoid in appearance. However, they are more draconic than their cousins, with scales covering much of their bodies and wings. (Only the Drayla have horns, however.) The Dragoons are also much more warlike, and the penalty for trespassing on their forest homes is generally death, following by a victory party.

Trolls:
Rather hulking creatures with tusks and plenty of hair. Likely the most aggressive of the races, with frequent hunting parties in which hey attack settlements of varying races and peoples. They are highly territorial, and certainly not the most loyal of creatures.

Dwarves:
Diminutive creatures that live underground. They are known for their fine weapon making skills, but are particularly grouchy when dealt with by....anyone. They find beards and facial hair (any age, any gender) extremely attractive.

Those are the basics. There is, of course, consideration for all of the unorganized creatures of the world. Unicorns, Phoenixes, Gnomes, Nixes and all of those good things exist. Hybrids are allowed, so long as it's not one of those 16% pixie, 21% dragon, 12% troll, etc. If you have your own special race, send me a mock up, and I will add it to the list if I find it acceptable.

Persona biography-
Lars is the son of Grim, hence Grims’son or Grimsson. Born in the northern reaches of human lands he grew up in a strict household. His father is a minor lord and raised his sons, all seven of them, to be warriors. Lars is the youngest of the boys and has always been overshadowed by his brothers and father in terms of their exploits and heroics.

Having gained his knighthood as a member of minor nobility Lars decided that he had to leave the small lands and explore the wider world. In this he hopes to gain the honor and fame that has eluded him and made him the outcast among his family.

Lars has been traveling the last sevens exploring and learning the ways of the world, yet that one fleeting piece of honor and glory continue to elude his grasp. He has served in many armies in many lands. His name is recognized among many mercenary companies as a skilled warrior and he takes his knightly oath of largess and compassion for the weak as well as his unyielding faith in his Gods so seriously that he has made a name for himself, sadly though he can’t see this.
The writer who cares more about words than about characters, action, setting, atmosphere is unlikely to create a vivid and continuous dream; he gets in his own way too much; in his poetic drunkenness, he can't tell the cart- and its cargo- from the horse.

Gods

As you may have guessed, this is a plural deity world. Here is a comprehensive list of the accepted Gods and their brief history.

The Four Siblings

These Gods were among the first to come into existence. They are considered a complete set, covering the four basic principles of life. Most races cling to and consider one of these their patron God.

Relna: Goddess of Life
The oldest of the siblings, Relna cherishes all living things, and has been known to extend gifts to those who serve and protect it. She abhors murder, and relinquishes her protection from those who commit it. (She does, however, take into consideration extenuating circumstances, such as the killing of an animal or plant for food.) She is known to have many children, and is considered to be the one who created the Elves.

Hotay:
God of Death
The second sibling. Hotay is in charge of guiding those who have passed from the mortal plain to the next. He is also the one who judges those who led important or complicated lives before they go to their next big adventure: death. Like his sisters, Hotay is known to have many children (generally dark and brooding ones.) It was Hotay who first created the Vampires.

Myra: Goddess of Peace
The third sibling, Myra is, coincidentally, extremely peaceful and calm. She offers comfort to those who seek it, but unlike her siblings, never enforces her will upon the mortals who who dwell on the living world. Myra has many children, most of whom go on to be proclaimers of peace and understanding. Myra is not associated with having created any one race.

Zaeken: God of War
The youngest sibling, Zaeken is harsh and quick to temper, and loves nothing more than a large, stretched out battle. He tends to consider mortals as a philosopher would consider chess pieces on a board. He extends glorious tributes and showers gifts upon the more talented warriors. It was he who created the Draylas and Dragoons. However, because of his wild days as a young god, it was written by the Fates that the youngest sibling would never have children of his own to carry on his name.

There are several other Gods and Goddesses (such as those that rule over creation, weather, and such things), but these four are considered the most important. In this world, there are also Demons aplenty. However, like the Gods, the Demons tend to stay in their own realm, only visiting the mortals on occasion (usually due to boredom).

This is a map of the 'Mortal Plain,' called various different names by various different races. But this is the layout of the world Fateful Travels occurs in. A little info:

Gurmess Li (NW): Populated mainly by those who wish to enhance their minds. Many monasteries, schools and universities can be found here, ranging from religious to alchemic focuses.

Neckle Islands (NE): Densely populated with things of a magical nature. Unicorns, dragons, phoenixes and such can all be found in thick supply on either of the two islands. No one is certain why this is, as these creatures can be found in varying places around the world as well. Some people say that this place has been chose especially by the Gods for their favorite creatures to be kept in relative harmony.

Kor'zen (W): Well known for its exports of high quality spices. Covered in plantations mostly run by slaves, with a very rich upper class.

North Lellen (E): Mostly populated with humans. Many of the old knighthood families hail from this region.

South Lellen (E): An area densely populated with trolls and ogres. Not considered a safe place for a picnic.

Gurmess Lo (SW): Populated by those who wish to enhance their physical abilities. Many aspiring warriors and knights from varying races come here to learn from the masters.

Sillia (W): A melting pot of sorts. Bits and bobs of every race and culture can be found somewhere on Sillia, and this is where meetings between races and kingdoms are generally held: an equal playing ground.

Sillia's Sickle (between Sillia and Castise): A sort of natural gate between Castise and Sillia. Dangerous reefs make this an difficult place to reach without a skilled sailor. Reputed to be the hiding place of various people of the nefarious and infamous nature. Rumored to be the meeting grounds for the Pirate Kings, if they do in fact exist.

Castise (E): The country where Fateful Travels begin. Nothing remarkable offhand, much like a smaller version of Sillia. The town of Klastor is considered to be the second capital of Castise, and is in general a pit stop on the road to and from the sea. This is where the fated heroes will meet.

Mandalla (SE): A place rich with supply, perhaps the area that inspired the phrase 'nature's bounty.' Almost entirely populated with Elves.

ERNEST WILKES

Race: Elf

Age: thirty-four

Appearance: Stands 4'2", skinny. Blonde hair, blue eyes, and the ubiquitous Massive Elf Ears(tm). Wears a green-died wool robe with many bags, pouches, and such hanging all over him. (No pic' as I don't have a scanner)

Gender: Male

Occupation: Alchemist

Bio:
Ernest Wilkes was born in a village on the coast Klastor. His parents were elves from the foreign land of Mandalla, where they had been persecuted as monotheist heretics among the polytheist elves. To the northwest, they happily embraced the more accepting Castisean culture and gave their son a human name; Ernest, the name of the ship captain who had transported them away from Mandalla, and Wilkes, after the town they settled in.

As a child, Wilkes spent many hours wandering about the forests of Castise, which his Elven parents thought perfectly normal. He became affluent with the flora of Castise, and at some point aquired an interest in alchemy. At the age of sixteen, he went to a Klastor-ite university to study alchemy. At twenty-one, he became a paying member of the Alchemists' Guild and opened a shop in Klastor.

Eventually, Wilkes decided to visit his parent's homeland of Mandalla. After spending two months there, he returned, but would not discuss his experience with his friends other than saying that he was "disgusted." From then on, he refused to identify himself as an elf.

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Gwen on Mon Jan 21, 2008 5:56 pm

Character name: Gwen Sylvandrae
Race: Halfling (not a dang hobbit. human/blue phoenix, but ur not supposed to know that! sshhhhhhhhhh!!!!! Difference between red phoenix and blue phoenix: red=fire, blue=lighting.)
gender: female
age: 21
height: 5' 6"
weight: light weight
eye color: blue
hair color: brown/blue
build: slender and lean, incredibly light.
interesting characteristics: has a quirky personality sometimes, but most of the time is laid back and gentle. has blue wing-shaped markings on shoulderblades-due to blue phoenix blood. Has bad static electricity in storms, resulting in unintentional shocking of others.
Weapons: Five small throwing daggers, concealed. Only visible weapons are long bow for stealth and long range fights, and twin long daggers for close combat. Main weapon however, is her magic. (i.e. her command over lightning. she tries to avoid using it tho because if physical strain. also has ability to heal herself and others to an extent.)

Gwen Sylvandrae, infant, was found in the middle of a forest by a group of hunters and taken back to their village. She was raised and cared for by a man who had lost his family in a flood. Gwen was born a halfling, yet of what breeds, no one knew until her 8th birthday when she slipped off a cliff and somehow escaped death by sprouting blue wings and flying safely to the bottom. Her halfling identity was kept secret from the rest of the villagers for another year afterwards until an injured traveler dropped on her doorstep. Gwen, after discovering more of her powers, healed the man of his wounds, but was spotted by a peeping villager. The villagers, not wanting to attract trouble, forced her to leave her home of nine years.
Shattered by the loss of her home, Gwen wandered into the forest where she was found. She wandered for weeks, barely surviving off of what she could find to eat and drink. She was deep into the heart of the forest when she found a cave. There she met her life-time companion Renmith, an ancient, husky-like dog demon with three tails and stood six feet tall. He had awaken from his hibernation because he felt a strange presence within the girl that hovered by his cave. He took her under his "wing" (lack of phrase) and taught her how to track and hunt, along with teaching her how to use her skills and the deep magic that lay within her. After 6 years, Renmith went back into his hibernation, feeling that he had taught Gwen enough for the time being.

Gwen set off, ready to face anything that came in her way. Or, so she thought. The first town she stopped in she ran into some trouble. (what do you want, she was 15 years old. she's just a dumb kid for crying out loud!) When all seemed hopeless, a stranger stepped in and saved her life. This stranger was none other than The Shadow, the infamous thief and alleged assassin. Fascinated by her savior's abilities in combat, she pursued the man until he finally agreed to teach her. They became fast friends, like an older brother with a little sister. However, little did Gwen know that her mentor was in all actuality, a woman named Jade Aura. However, she didn't find this out until five years later, when Renmith awoke once again and set out to find Gwen. His sense of smell helped find her quickly, and after a short scuffle between Shadow and the dog-demon, and a quick explanation of misunderstandings between the three, Renmith and The Shadow were introduced. However, Gwen was trying to figure out why Renmith kept referring to Shadow as "Miss." With this new revelation of who her mentor really was, one would think Gwen felt betrayed. However, she continued to learn under Jade, and their relationship developed to that of close sisters.

And as they say, the rest is history.

Age: unknown (she's never had a birthday party...heh)
Race: 1/2 Drayla (a half dragon species of my own creation) 1/2 unknown (to her...I know, of course...pwahaha)
Ethnicity: to make it clear to us earthlings: Egyptian
Eyes: Bright green (and glowing....ooooOOOOooo...)
Hair: Shades of red
Talents: A prodigy in forms of combat, weapon and otherwise, not a bad cook and can down a keg in a single sitting.
Weaknesses: Dealing with other adults (she loves kids), addiction to shiny objects, expressing herself verbally, and she rarely wins in poker. Also, she is illiterate.
Profession: Depends on the moment in her life. Has spent time as a pirate, enjoyed it immensely.
Personality: When she DOES speak, she is extremely sarcastic, and can find humor in any situation. She is rather obtuse when it comes to complicated things like 'feelings' and 'emotions' (heh) and has never met a jail cell she couldn't break out of.

History:
Jade was born to a desert Drayla woman in Mandalla who left the world bringing her into it. It was obvious from her physical appearance (lacking horns and claws) that she was not the child of her late mother's late husband, much to the chagrin of her half siblings, who called her 'Ora,' meaning 'Shadow' in their tongue. Still, she stayed in the Clan for the first few years of her life, and then wandered (being poorly looked after) into a forest where she met a dragoon named Mace Starfyre, who, upon seeing the filthy child, laughed and announced that he had never seen such a Jaded creature. They made fast friends, he being a lonely forest guardian and she being a lonely child, and he proceeded to teach her all of his unique tips and tricks of combat. Eventually, she drifted away from her childhood 'home,' and began a life of constant wandering, quickly learning that belonging to no particular race or culture has its benefits and dangerous risks.
Within a few years, she had earned a name (or at least several aliases) as a thief, demon, and/or witch, depending on where it was she had traveled. At one point, running from some confused peasants in North Lellen, she hid herself in a barrel, only to realize she had stumbled onto a pirate ship.Though young, by this point she had developed skills enough with a sword to impress even the pirate captain, and earned herself a position on the crew...as a man. The corsairs did not discover her true gender, much less race (or lack thereof) until she herself had taken the position of captain for a solid two years. By this point "Alex Black," the name of the feared captain that she shared with her partner, had become known well in many parts of the world, and had garnered a vast amount of ill-gained goods. To her own surprise, her crew lacked any great amount of anger their the deception, and, having to throw only a couple of angry pirates off the ship, she was able to continue her pirating with her partner, the true Alex, for another year. Eventually, however, things turned sour, with the arrival of a new boatswain that did not see fit to be led, or even half-led, by a woman. Tricked by this man and thought dead the crew of The Nova, Jade found herself once again a penniless traveler, with naught but the cloak and swords she had carried with her from the beginning.
At this point, while stopping shortly in a town with a name she no longer remembers, she stumbled upon a young girl in need of assistance. Jade quickly dispatched the troublesome (see also: horny) young men who had been bothering the girl, and attempted to leave. But for some reason, her gruff nature and alleged history of thievery and assassination could not force the girl to leave her be. So, not being able to bring herself to leave such an obviously unprepared youngster on her lonesome, Jade took the girl (by name of 'Gwen') under her proverbial wing. They traveled together for some time, Jade attempting to hand down some of the fighting lessons that she had been taught by her own master, and the two grew to be much like siblings. Of course, it hadn't occurred to Jade that perhaps her gruff nature might have confused the young Gwen, who did not realize that she was, in fact, a woman, until she came to meet Gwen's other guardian...a dog demon named Renmith. A brief scuffle too place between the demon and the half-Drayla warrior, but this, of course, eventually ended in a sort of parental comraderie. Naturally, the demon's sense were a bit more sharp than that of the young Gwen...and she was quickly informed that her friend was not a 'brother.'
The three began traveling once more, looking for any bit of excitement...preferably of the shiny kind...that could be found in the world.
It was time to start a new adventure.

Lingering there for over 40 years, he left after the elf he served died of his handicap.

With a heavy heart, he sought new lands. Finding another ship to barter on he made his way to South Lellen again finding jobs that accepted his talents. Though scarcely different from the Northern part of the country, the land was filled with dark and shady folk. Using what he had learned, he used his abilities to join a colt of killers, and started his life as an assassin. For another 60 years he lived with others like himself, until one assignment sent him to an unexpected turn. The job was simple, eliminate a bothersome vampire, but things turned suddenly for Marion. During the mission, the vampire infected him with venom, transforming him completely. Several weeks went by, Marion had grown extreamly, going from the casual form of his breatherin to a much taller, and more agile body. Quiting the cult he decided to head for Castise.

For the next two centuries he resided secretively within Klastor, fading from one shadow to another, spending his now long life trying to find something new, to bring his now dark exsistance to the light.

Obsession took hold and it would use spells to supplement itself while it studied, to find a way to the Forbidden Library, said to hold the access to immortality and great knowledge.

When Time was created, Xuphratucus found the portal to the Forbidden Library, and became lost in the millions of ancient text that lay there. It stayed for several millenia, learning the forbidden arts and access to the most powerful magick. It found immortality, but at a cost. It realized that without speaking it essentially went mute, unable to talk normally. When it exited the Forbidden Library, the Earth had changed greatly.

Civilization was born. With this, it set off to learn about this new World and destroy anyone who gets in its way in the eternal quest of knowledge.

I discussed it with Jade rather extensively via PM. She approved of it after I put in the weaknesses of Xuphratacus. See "Weaknesses" on the Xuphratacus character sheet to view just what can happen. Helps offset the power of Xuphratacus rather greatly.

And beyond that, we decided that Xuphratacus is not going to be one of the heroes, more of a tag along in search of knowledge. I'm trying very hard to keep the actual heroes a collection of flawed warriors, travelers, alchemists (;)) and such, so the members actually need each other to round themselves out.

Not to sound like much of a pest, but I am curious Jade, have you decided on the "Heros" as of yet? I realised that I wasn't much of a part in Round one, and hope to rectify that mistake.

Well, as far as I can tell, it looks like it's going to be Lars, Gwen, Jade, Marion, and Ernest. It would be nice if we could find one or two more people, but I think we're about ready to just start. Five heroes and one knowledge seeker seems like plenty for a good RP, so long as everyone keeps up and puts in what they can :)
I'm going to post the list of the five 'treasures' soon, and then we'll probably start.

If anyone can think of one someone they would love to see in here, feel free to have them check it out and send me a PM :)

Also, despite me being a "knowledge seeker," I still plan on putting in my fair share of the fights, although I'll probably mostly help the "Heroes" through buffs, healing and such.

The Five Treasures

Alright, so here it is, the list of the five treasures that the heroes must collect. This will likely be the last bit of info I post pre-game, and we will hopefully start soon!

These objects appear, to any but the select five, to be merely ordinary baubles of wood, stone, or clay. However, the eyes of the heroes have been opened by the Gods to these splendors, and each has a very special use. When gathered together, the five sacred objects can be used to summon down the golden temple, where the heroes will supposedly gain their final gift needed to balance the world once more.

The Spool
A golden spool with silver thread, which, when used to seal an open wound, will heal and close it.

The Teaset

A golden teapot with silver cups. Will purify any liquid, be it poison, mud, or a potion gone wrong.

The Comb
A golden comb with silver bristles. Whoever has their hair brushed with this will drift to a deep sleep, for one full day.

The Hourglass
With golden tops and silver 'sand,' anyone who turns this device will be rendered invisible for the sixty seconds it takes to run down.

The Broach
A golden broach with a silver clasp. This will protect the user from any and all spells.

So then. If there are any last minute questions, please let me know, and I will do my best to answer :) If not, then Fateful Travels will begin later today, January 24th.
Let the games begin!

It should be noted that I have no access to a computer, so I something important happens over the weekend, then don't expect me to be a part of it.
