Introduction
It's been some years after the CC Corp scandal wherein they were forced to discontinue the popular MMORPG 'The World.' The government has long since shut down their operations and kept the incident under the rug after the initial media breakout. Nobody expected to see the likes of the game ever again.
That is, until Luke Farron came into play.
Luke was part of the team that was tasked to clear all the data of The World to prevent incidents of the same sort from happening again. But he could see the potential of the game, of the system. Secretly, he made himself a copy of the data to study and to build on while claiming to the government that his team had destroyed each and every available copy. Over the years, he sorted through the files, upgrading some aspects, tweaking a few places, even deleting parts entirely. But his main dedication was the AI data collection system, Morganna. It was her, after all, that caused the comatose states of the people who played the game. He swore he would make it bigger, better that what his predecessor, Harald Hoerwick, had made.
Soon, after gathering a few comrades who designed the HMD's (Head-Mounted Display) and Gamepads for their system, Luke was ready to release 'Renatus.' He wisely kept his name out, choosing an alias and founding a new company based on that new alias, which he called Gameplay Corp.
The game was received with welcome and praise. Soon, it was known worldwide and defeated The World in terms of fame, which was only known in its home country, Japan. Unsurprisingly, it was not as popular there as it was in the West, but there were still some who played despite being cautioned by the government.
However, he would soon learn that it was these 'improvements' to Morganna that would make her all the harder to defeat. Because, by using the original data, Luke had inserted the Liminality Code, which would blur the lines between the virtual world of Renatus and real life. History would repeat itself, this time harder and bigger than before, taking out everyone, even Luke himself.
Renatus
The realm of Renatus is based much on the original game. It's set in a place where mythical creatures exist, natural resources were far from scarce and where the main goal was to defeat the ultimate boss and gain the ultimate item. Sounds like your typical MMORPG, doesn't it? Well, no arguement there - it really is a typical game. However, in terms of graphics, gameplay, audio sounds and others, nearly everyone would say it was superior, which was why it remained at the top of everyone's list.
In our game, there are two Root Towns, also alternately called Town Server. Whenever you log in, you will be placed in the last Root Town you logged out of. To properly save your progress, you must always go back to a Root Town. In the center of either Novus or Vetus, you will find a Blue crystal. It is with these that you can travel to the other server or dungeons or places. Same goes for other places - there is exactly one teleportation crytal per place, and you will have to manually walk back there.
The game is patterned after medieval classes, similar to what you'd find in most normal RPG's. These are the ones immediately available upon registration, along with the weapons they use:
Archer (Bows and Variations of it)
Priest (Staves/Light Magic)
Mage (Elemental Magic)
Summoner (Dark Magic)
Halberdier (Lances)
Sword Master (Swords)
Warrior (Axe)
Rogue (Daggers/Knives)
When levelling up, you do not get to pick where you skill points will go. These will be randomly generated, but there is a higher chance for a particular stat depending on your class. For example, a Rogue is more likely to level up in speed that in strength while a Warrior is the opposite of that. You can all probably guess which is the particular skill you must possess for each class, so I trust that your judgement is sound.

FAQ (will expand as we go on)
Q: Is it necessary to have watched the series?
A: Nope. This is more of a spin-off than anything, really. If you have any questions, ask them in the OOC or PM me. I'd be happy to give my two cents, as I'm sure my little minions would feel the same way.
Q: What is this scandal by CC Corp?
A: During a system server crash (? but something similar), those who were playing suddenly collapsed into a comatose state. The server crash was caused by Morganna, a data collection system used to create the perfect AI (Artificial Intelligence) Aura. Basically, what happened is that Morganna took control and refused to let Aura completely form so it could continue to exist. A group decided to investigate and yada, yada, yada. They managed to complete Aura, everyone who was comatose came awake, and brought to CC Corp to court. After that point everything is entirely fanmade.
Q: I don't understand. What does being comatose have to do with a game crash?
A: The creator of The World had blurred the lines between two defined structures. This is called Liminality. What happened is that The World and real life have somehow become connected with each other and now what happens in-game may affect real life. Those who go into a comatose state in real life ended up trapped in the game, unable to log out.
Q: Why are there stuff that don't fit in with canon?
A: Sorry about that. I am not entirely familiar with the .hack// series; I just really loved the concept they used and did a plot as best as I could based on what I've watched and read.

Re: [OOC] .hack//Reboot
I'll post up my character first, then please make any necessary adjustments to your character.
As a heads up to other people - I have a co-host in the RP, a person who thought of the idea of Luke trying to improve Morganna. I've yet to ask her what she wants though, so I'm putting off approving characters til I contact her. .A.;; Sorry guys.
@Gamer: Just read his sheet, sounds good, but for a minor detail. I don't mind the part that he beta tested, but I don't think Luke offers special positions for beta testers. 'n' The admins/moderators of Renatus all work in the company of Gameplay Corp.
@Mr Nice: Since Cherry seems to be interested in playing a Priest Class character, why not a male sword? :D I'll reserve it under your name in the meanwhile.
@Cherry: So you're reserving the Priestess? :3 Would that be log in or log out? I'm assuming you'll be making a female because you said priestess. |D
@Hell: Would you please expand on your character sheet? oAo;; I'd like to see more details if possible to get a good variance of characters. I don't mind that you can't log out however, so until you've adjusted your character sheet and I've approved it, consider the Summoner, Log In, Female reserved for you.
Oh, and .hack//Reboot's not an actual anime. |D
@Tabris: As much as I love Cubia too, I'm going to have to reject it. D: There no recurring characters from the original other than Morganna and Aura. However, you can play a bad guy. |D Morganna's Phases, perhaps? I'd honestly prefer that we filled in all normal characters before I approve others though. 'n'
Re: [OOC] .hack//Reboot
Sorry guys, just wanted to check in quickly - I'll answer your questions later, while consider your reservations valid in the meantime. Gotta go to school now. Thank you again for your lovely feedback~β₯
I'll put off approving till I read the two who have submitted.
