Introduction
In the year 2012, there was a rapid emergence of a new flu. It came about during flu season and blended right into the cases of H1N1, avian, and the 24 hour flu -- no one was prepared, no one had any idea. The symptoms began with a mild fever and nausea, but over the progress of two weeks it gradually worsened. If you were infected, you couldn't keep anything down. When you finally gave up on food or water, you vomited foamy bile. The fever went from 99.9 degrees to 106 -- if you hadn't perished from severe dehydration, permanent brain damage from the fever usually did you in. The world was losing people, left and right, until many governments instituted a quarantine. Anyone showing symptoms of the flu were barred off in hospitals; even those that may not have been suffering from The Flu. This is when the research began, trying to find out what was causing it and how we could stop it -- needless to say, as the memories of screams fill the heads of survivors, nothing worked. Soon, about a week after death, the dead began to rise. Some rose earlier and some later, but they always came back. The way they moved was unnatural, like something right out of a movie, and the way they smell... Then the attacks started. People were being bitten and soon falling into a faster, but similar fate. They turned much more quickly, in about 12-24 hours, they didn't look quite as dead, and were much more coordinated. They were able to run and climb, compared to their slow moving, clumsy counterparts. Not much else is known, as governments began to fall and the dead continued to rise.
The human race is going to be completely decimated, but you -- yes, you -- you managed to avoid the infection; unfortunately for you, I don't know if that's good news or bad news. You've been hearing reports of humans attacking other humans, news that the dead are rising... What will you do? And will you manage to survive?

((Urelasticreflection -- you can roleplay walking through the basement if you'd like, in fact, I encourage you to, if you'd like -- it's always fun to do extra writing, in my opinion. This is going to be what you'll find downstairs, however, with a basic sweep.))
The landing is about halfway down the full staircase, once reaching the first landing, the stairs continue down once more to the left. Once you head down these set of stairs, Andy will no longer be able to see you.
The lights are off in the basement and none of the switches are working -- though this is presents only a small problem with the presence of the flashlight.
In the basement, you find that it is all one large, connected room except for a single room connected with a door. In the large room you find mostly useless things -- a television, movies, two gaming systems and assorted games, and some exercise equipment. You do find that there are two couches down here, extra blankets, and a few pillows -- perhaps someone was sleeping down here recently?
You do find, however, a pack of batteries (4 AA) and a small first aid kit (some band-aids of assorted sizes, a small roll of gauze, alcohol wipes, and some pain killers, along with a single epi-pen).
Through the door, assuming you go inside, you find what appears to be a shop of some sort. On one side, you find a number of small, glass containers holding substances you can't quite identify. They are labeled, however, and the labels appear to be chemistry formulas, indicating that the substances inside are probably chemicals, elements, or combined elements of some sort. On the other side, you find a small metal working bench -- without electricity, however, it appears as though it would be relatively useless.

She followed Sgt. Williams across to the higher roof, waiting as directed as he disappeared from sight. She glanced nervously around at her level, hoping no other 'unfriendlies' showed their ugly faces. By the time Williams came back, offering her a hand up, she was considering the odds for success of taking a running jump and reaching his level.
With her height, those odds were slim to none.
Once up on the higher roof, she let do as he wished with the ladder, taking stock of the new surroundings. The sky was just starting to take on tinges of yellow and orange as afternoon inched toward evening. She frowned â where were they supposed to hole up for the night? With the people who'd contacted him via radio? That was assuming they could find them before dark.
And if they found them after dark, and the others had guns . . . how likely were Sgt. Williams and herself to be taken for zombies and shot?
The crash of the ladder hitting the adjacent roof made her jump, bringing her back to reality. Her eyes went to the makeshift bridge as Sgt. Williams began muttering to himself again.
"Come on, boys . . . I know you're out there somewhere . . . ."
She moved up beside him. "Probably not good to get out on that bridge and have to start shooting," she said, frowning intently as her gaze searched, unassisted, for zombies. "Then again . . . it might be the only option we have. If you went first and they showed up, you'd have to balance and shoot, and that's not conducive to continued living."
Moving up to where their end of the 'bridge' held its perch, she stared along the metal rungs to the opposite end. C'mon, it's just like monkey bars . . . . You used to crawl across the top of those all the time. No problem. "On the other hand, I'm smaller which makes it easier to shoot over my head if you need to. Plus, if there are zombies over there, you can pick them off at your liesure, no sweat."
Flashing a smile over her shoulder, trying not to show nervousness at crossing an urban canyon this way, she mounted the ladder, beginning to carefully pick her way across.
No zombies on the other side. Please don't let there be zombies, please don't let there be zombies, please don't let there be zombies . . . .
