Introduction
Ten people have been murdered by a serial killer in the city of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The city is calling on members of a special task team located within the city, and it is their job to help catch him before he has the chance to kill again.
The team has had successes in other cities in the past. Since its conception in 2005, they have seen the ending of three major serial killer cases, two kidnappings, and a forgery ring. Now it is happening in their own town. With the lack of evidence and the sporadic selection of the victims, The Couples Killer is evading detection. It is only a matter of time before two more people are found with their necks slashed.
R.P. INFORMATION
~An easy and fun game is my highest priority. I believe in player freedom. This trips over with the CSI/Cop genre RP, since I will be in the position of knowing information over the other players. I will supply all the details about the murder in my βeventβ posts. Players are welcome to find evidence that is not mentioned by myself or Yesterday, however it must be relevant. (For example: If I post that the a victim fought back, then it is a legitimate find to discover skin cells under the nails.)
~PM me if you are unsure about finding evidence or something otherwise. I would rather you feel secure enough not to worry about it too much. Please inform me of any confusion you have about the story or events happening.
~In the event that a major plot point is going to be revealed, I will post in the OOC announcing that a character can discover it. Iβll drop by and say, βHey guys! Who wants to find some DNA that Iβve hidden!β Since I can think of nothing more sophisticated, first come, first serve.
~ For the sake of continuity and longevity, I will be applying the rules of the CSI: Vegas universe. This means that DNA can be processed in a day, hair fibers and other clues from the murderer will somehow be the only crap laying around, needed equipment is just laying about the lab, and other ridiculous things like that.[/center]
~ All known evidence will be posted in the OOC board.

No, this guy was more likely to be a fan, maybe one day a possible copycat, but not the UNSUB himself. Unless, of course, his current vacancy was an elaborate act. Her eyes narrowed at the small smile that appeared on his face during his denial. Ah, I see. You like the attention, do you? She contemplated for a moment. Smith appeared to be "on a roll," so to speak, and might be able to get any useful information this man contained eventually. Markle was not endowed with so much fortitude as to resist forever. Then again, it could be that he knew absolutely nothing at all, and this was simply a grand waste of their time.
Well, there was one way to find out. "He's right," she said, looking at Smith, but never directly at the suspect. Jessica had her own brand of the "bad cop" routine, and it was quite complimentary to her boss's. Where he'd intimidate the hell out of anyone, she preferred to deflate their overabundant egos with, cold, blunt dismissal. "There's no way he could have done it. He lacks... well, everything. The skill, the finesse, the-" here she let her eyes slide right over the suspect for the briefest of seconds before looking away again as though bored- "brains." While she hated praising serial killers more than most, it was a necessary and frequent tactic of people in her line of work.
As she turned and headed toward the door, trusting Smith to follow her lead here, she caught the man's expression out of the corner of her eye and smiled inwardly. The cocky smirk had disappeared, and he looked to be fuming.
Three, two, one...
"Wait!" Markle called after them. There we go. The man clearly loved the attention paid to the case- and by bizarre extension, himself- enough to be willing to spill his guts to keep it. Let's see if he knows anything useful after all.
"Go on," she replied flatly, as though uninterested, throwing a glance at Smith for effect. "We're listening... for now."

And there sat Ben, a frown similar to that of a teenager forced to sit at the kiddieβs table at Thanksgiving. Still, this was a needed position that had to be filled. Someone needed to stand back and observe without the bias of interaction.
Currently the main body of the team was out in the field, gathering evidence and having fun with the nitty-gritty the job called for. Benediktβs phone was on and ready, just in case a pressing matter had to be phoned in without interrupted the interrogation.
Ben was composing the Beethovenβs Fifth of suspect notes on this Markle guy. The yellow note pad was filled line by line, with elaborate this-and-thatβs with every twitch Markle produced. A (rather good) doodle of Ben shaking a confession out of Markle was included in the corner of his very professional notes.
Benedikt knew that the team was skeptical, and with good reason. Everything they had on their plate was circumstantial evidence. The best nugget of evidence the team had was the knife and the failed escape attempt.
But it was the best thing they had at the moment. If they were to let Markle free, and he killed again, the press would be piranha in the water.
Ben could only hope that it would all end here. But it wasnβt his luck.

Markle pressed his hands flat on the sheet metal table. Ring of presperation formed halos around his fingers. His right eye had a twitch to it, throwing his creepy killer air into new realms with its subtle presence.
The man looked nervous. The man looked guilty.
βWait.β He chimed. βI know you think I did this, but yβall are wrong.β He said in a kind of solemn voice, as if he had just hit an animal on the road. All he had now was to argue his way into a corner.
βYeah, runnβn was stupid. Iβm sorry for that. Butβ¦ itβs just I have stuffβ¦β
His voice trailed, his sleepless eyes bouncing back and forth from Jessica to James, βin my apartment. It wonβt look gud, you see?β
Markle rocked backward in his chair and scrubbed his hands over his face. βI just like to see. That is why I am soβ¦ interested. "

Calling Kaltenbach, he informed the second in command of the things they had found. About the fact that the place was full of dead animals, that Markle appeared to be very good at his job and knew his way around a knife, that the man had kept everything ultra-clean and the overall chill factor of the place. "Unfortunately, it's no direct evidence," Cody continued, "The only thing that might be something is a key I found. It was hidden in the freezer, which seems odd enough. It could be just a key from a safe, but I can't find anything with a lock on it. I'll keep looking for it for a while, as it might be hidden. Perhaps you can ask the suspect about it."
After he had informed Kaltenbach, he called Vic & Alec as well, giving them the same information. "You didn't find anything where this key might belong to by any chance?"

Once he had finished he, reluctantly, stepped back inside and tasked himself with looking around for something, anything the key might fit in. He basically started doing what Victoria had been doing earlier, just searching absolutely every inch of everything.

Without waiting for Alec to return, she strode over to the SUV and hopped in, cranking up both the engine and the air conditioning. She tapped out the vibes to a Bob Marley song as she waiting for Alec to finish up whatever he was doing. From what she gathered Cody and Hutch (as she was now referring to the Rookie) had found a key. She had turned Markle's apartment upside down and found nothing that would require unlocking. Perhaps it was to a mail box or deposit box? Those were just shots in the dark.
As Alec was getting into the SUV, she said, "Call Cody back and see if he and Hutch can meet us at Elmo's." Realizing she was barking orders, even if it was in a nonchalant tone, she turned to give him an over the top smile, "Please." Elmo's was a diner down town that the team often ate at. They served just about everything for breakfast and plenty of sandwiches and soups and most importantly to the majority of her team, claimed to have 'Philly's Best Coffee'. She wasn't sure about the rest of the crew, but she herself could go for some French toast right about now. Thinking seemed to come a bit easier with a satisfied belly, as least that is what he Granny always claimed.
Less than half an hour later, she pulled into Elmo's lot and parked around the side. Her and Alec went straight to their normal booth, sliding in across from each other. The diner was filled with the sounds of clashing dishes and scraping forks and a faint melody from a radio in the kitchen. It smelled of coffee and pancakes. The waitress, Ginger, didn't have to take their drink orders, after a few moments she showed up with them and walked away, figuring more would join their party. Her and Alec talked a bit about nothing in particular as they waited for the others to show up.

He hummed a tune under his breath as he waited for Cody to answer, once he did Alec didn't even bother to say hello, "Sorry, didn't find anything the second time around either. So listen, Vic and I are goin' over to Elmo's and she thinks you and... The rookie should come along." He waited a moment for Cody's response before saying his goodbye and tucking his phone away. He wondered just why Victoria had called the rookie Hutch, or he had guessed that she meant the rookie because Cody was working with him, he hoped he was right.
Once they got there, Alec smiled, he was starting to get hungry, turning over a suspect's house does that to you. He also noted that coffee sounded really, really, good at the time. Once they seated themselves in the booth, Alec leaned his head against the seat for a moment, listening to the sounds of the diner, taking in the familiar and pleasant smell as well. He shook his head and sat up straight as Ginger brought their drinks, he grinned and told her 'Thank you.' As she walked away. He was glad to have some coffee and started drinking it almost immediately.

Entering the diner, his spirits were a bit lifted by the view of Ginger pouring in some coffee. After years of coming to this place, Ginger knew him and the rest of the team quite well and had an uncanny ability to know exactly what everyone wanted. They often joked how she was more a part of the team then some of the rookies did. He gave her an approving nod for the coffee as she indicated she would bring it to him in a moment. He approached their usual booth and slid in next to Victoria.
"So guys, what do you say. Is this man less or more creepy then the woman with the doll houses?" As he said it, Ginger brought him the coffee and then looked over at Kiernan. She appeared to be studying him for a while, probably considering what kind of things he would like. "So, I've see you've guys got a new one," she finally said. "He's kinda cute," she continued in her usual flirty but matter-of-fact demeanour. "Be nice to him, okay?" She gave the rookie a smile. "So, what would you like to order?"

He had hoped the guy would prove to be their killer. It would have made the case easy, and he would have had a good night's sleep knowing there wouldn't be another killing. But that would have required the world to not conspire to ruin his sleep for a night.
At least they could keep Markle on the whole running deal. It would keep the guy off the streets for a while. And maybe keep him from commiting his own killings for a while longer. After all, even if he hadn't done the ones that they were working, James was sure he would do something sooner or later.
He didn't bother speaking as he picked the file folder up off the table and left, trusting Jessica to follow suit.
βWe'll hold him on the running charge. Keep him off the streets a while.β
He informed Kaltenbach.
βThink they found enough to keep him on a watch list?β

She laughed, wiggling her fingers toward Cody and raising her eyebrows, "However. A sixth finger might come in handy on occasion." Giggling at her own lame play on words, she returned one hand back to her tea glass. "Oh!" With more seriousness, she added, "And I will NEVER look at a squirrel the same way again..." Now frowning, "Or a dog, or a cat... or most animals in general."
Laughing again, she looked around the table. It had been the first time in a while three of them had hung out and the first time out with the rookie. She grinned, hoping the three wouldn't be too much of a bad influence on him. "So, Hutch, what do you think of the team?"
With her free hand she was typing a text to James' phone, BREAKING FOR LUNCH WITH THE BOYS. She didn't need to elaborate, James would know where they were. She was hoping that James would actually receive the text, as he more often than not had issues with his electronic abilities.

He leaned forward, elbows on the table and everything, ignoring all the rules and proper table manners, and took a drink of his coffee, grinning the whole time. βIβm just glad to be out of his house, what about you Vic?β He asked, the relief was evident on his face. "Did he have to be such a creep? I mean, sure I get it, you're proud of your job. But why the cat, that was weird."
He shook his head at Vic, why was she calling him that? He really hoped that the rookie would turn out to be a good cop, bad cops would most defiantly be blamed on Victoriaβs influence.

After saying the perfunctory goodbyes to her supervisors, Jessica considered her blazer for a moment before draping it over her arm and heading downstairs to her locker. Dialing in the combination, she reached in and removed a black leather jacket. Right now, she needed to drive, and fast, but she was not without some regard for her safety, and the tougher material would do her much better than her suit coat.
Not five minutes later, she was out in the parking garage, and a rare smile crossed her face as she spotted her beloved red Kawasaki Ninja. Fastening on the visored helmet (in matching red, of course), she slung her leg over the bike and tore out of the garage faster than was strictly legal. The highway was a pleasant feeling, and she would have been fine going until dark save the fact that she was only just realizing she was painfully hungry. Not in the mood to cook, Jessica decided it might be best to eat out that evening, and remembered that there was small diner with surprisingly good food not too far from here. Elmo's, that was it.
With a slight twinge of regret, she exited the freeway and pulled up to the diner. Hang on... Unless she was very much mistaken, those people in the window were the rest of the team. Shrugging to herself, she left the helmet on the bike and swung open the cheerfully-painted door with the little bell on it. Deciding that it would probably be best to socialize with the team and maybe get to know the rookie (or profile him, whichever was faster), she nodded to Ginger and headed over to the group.
"Mind if I join?" she asked, with a passing feeling of awkwardness. She wasn't on unfriendly terms with any of them, but socializing was most certainly not her forte. She slid into the large booth next to Cody and Victoria, and Ginger was quick to bring her black tea. The brands you could get in American restaurants generally weren't that good, and Jessica would have preferred green tea anyway, but it was better than coffee. The only thing coffee had going for it was the smell.
Taking a sip of the hot liquid, she glanced at the others. "So... find anything useful?"
Setting

Waiting for the rookie's response to her earlier questions, she glanced up and spotted Jessica approaching the group. She offered a small smile. The two girls on the team really haven't attempted be become 'girl-friends' just yet. Victoria couldn't help but be a little territorial over the guys. It was a girl thing, she supposed. Something she reckoned she would have to get over sooner than later. Jessica was valuable to the team it didn't look like she would be going anywhere for a while.
"Hey Jessica. So, how did it go with the interrogation?", she asked the woman as she slide in beside of Cody and Vic. A vision of Ben holding Markle by the collar across the interrogation table flashed across her mind. Complete with flared nostrils and pulsing vein protruding from his forehead with Markle shaking and clearly scared shitless. "Did you guys get anything out of him?"
Almost at the exact same time as her question, Jessica asked what they found. "We," she jerked her head across the table at Alec, "found a binder with some newspaper clippings. Enough to prove he's a freakish fan, but nothing solid to peg him as the murderer." She figured Cody or Hutch would give their own findings.
Setting

There was something of a lull in conversation, and Jessica took the time to study her teammates. It was pretty clear in the small things they did that they were disappointed with the day's work, and she could hardly blame them. Whatever else she may have thought of the group individually (and she was slow to form lasting opinions on those she worked closely with, a lesson she had learned well about a year ago) she knew that overall, they were a dedicated, hardworking bunch, though about half of them had a proclivity for tardiness that she could not say she approved of.
So it was only natural that the lack of any good leads, anything to propel the case forward, was going to be disheartening. She was pretty sure this was where someone was supposed to say something motivational or stirring, but it certainly was not going to be Jessica. She'd leave that to someone with better people skills, or maybe just Ben, who she was sure could manage something simultaneously cranky and proverbially fire-lighting or something of that nature.
For the moment, though, she contented herself with simply listening, both to her teammates and the general buzz of conversation in the diner. Societal convention would probably frown upon this sort of behavior, but Jessica had never bothered too much with such things. She was going to speak when she felt like it, and listen to whatever happened to be going on in her immediate area, invited or otherwise. Doing so made her good at what she did, and she'd be damned if she was giving that up for the sake of someone else's sense of propriety.
See, Jess, this is why you don't have friends, she mused internally, then immediately dismissed the thought as irrelevant. One of the others was bound to mention something case-related soon, and she had no desire to be zoning out when that happened.

Ben was withdrawn, but was able to answer James when his boss addressed him.
βYeah,β He hummed in a deep, throaty manner, βhe hold him until someone sees though our cheap excuse.β
Truthfully, the fact that Markle ran was what pissed Ben off more than anything. He wanted so badly for Markle to start crying and to confess everything.
But it was never that easy. And it certainly would not be with the Couples Killer.
Ben scrubbed his face with is hands and took in a deep breath. His outward appearance mirrored his inner dismay. Since the murders happen in clusters, he has stay up to drive around to street to monitor for activity. In his opinion there were no off-duty policemen.
Though this made him look like he was tossed out of a moving car.
Ben flashed a glance at his phone to see if there was anymore updates being piped in.
βHey James, the whole gang is getting bite to eat. I think a little Philly cheese steak would do me good. You drive, my truck is about to rust out completely.β

Alec smiled at nodded at Jessica, acknowledging her presence as she slid into the booth. He listened to women as they talked about the 'findings' of the team. He shook his head and sighed, "Man, guy's so creepy that I wouldn't be surprised if he was our guy someday." He frowned and took another drink of his coffee, crossing his arms and leaning back against his seat after he did so. He looked out the window and scowled, wishing he could dig up something useful in the evidence they had. He didn't doubt that he could, it was all a matter of time. Time and knowing what to look for, both of which where scarce.
He scratched his head and looked back at the group, offering half a small smile and sighing softly. This job was going to make him lose all his hair before long.
