The Dragons!

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby KumoriRyuu on Tue Mar 05, 2013 2:26 pm

As the lore in this Role Play dictates that Dragons don't currently exist on the mortal plane, this species list is to be taken, at least for the beginning portion of the RP, to simply list the Dragons which exist in legends and such within the mortal world. Nobody has seen a Dragon for several thousand years, but stories of their ancient lives and powers still exist thanks to tradition and lore.

Note!!

If you have an idea for a Dragon species, then drop me a private message with a link to the image (or the image itself), a description of the Dragon (since not all pictures are 100% accurate as to what you're going for), a list of its capabilities such as whether or not it has a breath attack of fire, ice or something else, control of an element, hardened scales by comparison to some other material such as steel or something like that, and anything else you think I should know about it. Oh, and its height at the shoulder is a requirement by default, as that's how we gauge all Dragon's height in this RP.

So here goes the current list of Dragons!

Giant Earth Dragon - This Dragon is huge. Standing at over forty feet tall at the shoulder, with another twenty five feet or so for the neck and another fifteen for the head, it's a Dragon of epic proportions and a force to be reckoned with. It's main weapons are its gale force breath and the powerful hurricane that it can create using its wings.

Red Horned Dragon - This Dragon has no forearms to speak of, but never the less is a powerful Dragon to be dealt with. It's very aggressive to intruders in its territory, and though it has no breath attack, its talons and wings are a force on their own, not to mention that it can use its body as a body battering ram. Give it a wide berth. It stands about twenty five feet tall when standing upright on its hind legs.

Feather Blade Dragon - You'd never guess that a Dragon sporting feathers in its wings could be so lethal, but each "feather" is as sharp as a blade and twice as strong as steel. It's no wonder then that all who find those feathers use them as weapons. It's about eighteen feet tall when it stands on its hind legs, and though it's a relatively small Dragon, it's a force to be reckoned with.

Unholy Thunder Dragon - This mighty Dragon is immensely large, standing at over forty feet at the shoulder with another twenty feet or so for the neck and head. It commands a purple thunder attack which is both hotter and more accurate than normal lightning, but it must have its prey in line of sight for this attack to be effective. If you can sneak around it, then you'll be safe as it has no sense of hearing or smell, being half dead.

Bladed Dragon - This Dragon's entire body is its weapon, and it has no breath attack to speak of. However, it does not need it. Its wings are sharp enough to slice through even the most solid of dwarven made armor, and its talons can cleave large boulders in half with a single swing. This Dragon is never to be engaged lightly and without proper preparation. It stands about twenty feet tall when on its hind legs.

Red Dragon - This Dragon is fairly unremarkable, and is a very common species. It's about fifteen feet tall when on all fours, and about twenty three to twenty five feet when on its hind legs. It has a flame breath, so steer clear.

Maximus Dragon - This Dragon is preposterously large, growing to rival a mountain in size and standing at least one hundred and ten feet at the shoulder when on all fours. It has no breath attack, but it does have the ability to mentally brainwash anything it sees and has the capacity to mentally overpower. All mortals should avoid this Dragon's gaze, as they will not be strong enough to fight its influence. Its body is its main weapon, and it is the largest Dragon in existence today. Luckily, they seem to be extinct, as none have been seen in over a millennium.

Ancient Wind Dragon - These Dragons are small and have an icy breath that can freeze almost anything at close range. They are small, standing about ten feet at the shoulder when on all fours, and are generally a peace loving breed. Still, don't make it angry because you'll end up a popsicle.

Thunder Dragon - These Dragons are very similar to their unholy counterparts, but they are typically a quiet and peace loving breed. They can control lightning from the heavens, and do not make their own. Without a storm nearby, they have no weapons save for their talons and wings. They are about twenty five feet at the shoulder.

Razorback Dragon - This Dragon has a row of deadly spines running along its back and can curl its body into a near perfect circle and attack its enemies as if its a living chainsaw. They are about sixteen feet tall at the shoulder, and keep to themselves in the mountains.

Emerald Dragon - These Dragons are primarily forest Dragons and keep to themselves. They have no breath attack, but if they are engaged in combat, they make heavy use of their knowledge of the forest and surrounding area to trap and fool opponents. They are about ten feet at the shoulder.

Fairy Dragon - Fairy Dragons are typically peace loving breeds as well, and have no breath attack. There are several of these small Dragons living within elvish lands and cities as guardians and peace keepers. They are about five feet tall at the shoulder. They are also capable of human speech.

Ebon Dragon - These impressive Dragons stand about twenty five feet at the shoulder and have one of the most effective ice breath attacks in the known Dragon world. They are strong, fast, and very intelligent.

Sapphire Dragon - With Scales that shimmer and sparkle like real sapphire gems, these Dragons have been highly sought after throughout history and hunted for their scales and teeth. Nearly extinct, if you see a Sapphire Dragon, count your blessings because you will likely never see it again. They are about fifteen feet at the shoulder.

Laval Dragon - These Dragons are born in the molten lava of volcanoes and spend most of their lives tucked away beneath the Earth. When they do emerge, run! They burn everything in their path, with a fire aura that burns hotter than the lava from which they came from. They are about twenty feet at the shoulder.

Great Horned Dragon - These are the rhinos of the Dragon kingdom, and have the largest horn of any species (body ratio taken into account of course). They stand about nine to twelve feet at the shoulder, and are a rather timid and easily spooked breed. They will charge at almost anything, horn first, to impale it and get rid of it.

Great Dragon - These Dragons are the most intelligent of all Dragon kind, save for the Divine Dragon itself. They are very large, standing over thirty feet at the shoulder and being almost five times as long as they are tall. There have been no Great Dragons on record for over six thousand years, but that doesn't mean that there isn't one out there somewhere...

Vampire Dragon - Like their humanoid counterparts, these Dragons feed on the blood of other Dragons. The main difference is that they will kill their prey instead of convert it to one of their own kind. If a Vampire Dragon attacks, it will instantly go in to attack the neck at the base of the skull in an attempt to sever the nerves of its prey to make an easy meal out of it. They are about twenty feet at the shoulder, and are not to be trifled with. The only good thing about them is that they only have to feed once every two months or so.

Swift Fin Dragon - These Dragons are excellent swimmers, and are the fastest of the aquatic Dragon species. Though they are smaller than many of their cousins, being only about thirty feet long, they are the most at home in their oceanic environment and are usually a peaceful breed.

Serpent Dragon - This is the Dragon from which most sea going horror tales are told. It is a regular culprit in the attacks on sea going vessels and fishing expeditions, and is over sixty feet long.

Typhoon Dragon - This Dragon only ever comes out during powerful storms that ravage the sea. It hunts other large sea bounty such as fish and whales. At over eighty feet long, it's one of the largest of the oceanic Dragons.

Divine Dragon - This Dragon is one spoken of only in the oldest legends, and no written history is old enough to officially tell its tale with accuracy or certainty. It is now considered to be nothing more than legend, as it has not been seen for the entire existence of men. It has only reached the ears of men through tales told by the elves of a great Dragon who flies the skies of the world at an altitude no mortal eye can see, and that it is both the largest and most powerful Dragon known to have ever existed. Not only that, but it is said that this Dragon's power rivals those of the Gods themselves.

Ocean Dragon - This Dragon is born to the ocean and lives its life in seclusion beneath the sea. It is said that if it flaps its wings above the surface of the water, it will instantly cause a storm to erupt which will last for three days and nights. Whether this is true or not remains to be seen, but there are plenty of fisherman's tales to support it. This Dragon is very large, and is about forty feet at the shoulder.

Jeweled Dragon - This Dragon has gem-like protrusions extending from its body which are almost as hard as diamond, and are considered very valuable. This Dragon has been hunted to extinction, and it now exists only in children's story books and legends. there are still a few of the gem-like scales floating around, but only in the black markets. All others have mysteriously vanished from the world.

Icicle Dragon - This Dragon lives its life in the frozen areas of the world, and can blend into the ice and snow on a whim to disappear from view. It's a very clever Dragon, but never ventures far from its frozen home. It's about fifteen feet at the shoulder.

Blue Fire Dragon - This Dragon is relatively small, but it is very aggressive and will not hesitate to hunt and kill humans, elves and dwarves whenever it finds them in its territory. It's about eight feet at the shoulder, and has no breath attack.

Ancient Dragon - This Dragon has the longest known life-span of any Dragon species. At over thirty thousand years of age, the Ancient Dragon Xheimex, who resides in the Elven city of Mirlward, is the oldest known Dragon alive today. They stand about twenty feet at the shoulder.

Ghastly Dragon - The Ghastly Dragon is the unholy offspring of ancient demons and is a combination of lost Dragon souls bound to a single undead body. The result is an undead Dragon of monstrous proportions with powers to match. Capable of spouting several Dragon "heads" to attack at once, it can use whatever the former attacks of the Dragon souls its body possesses to attack at once. It stands about fifty five feet at the shoulder.

Elder Dragon - Despite its name, this Dragon has one of the shortest life spans of the Dragon species. However, it has the oldest known history and was one of, if not the first, Dragon species to walk this Earth. They are about ten feet at the shoulder.

Sea Wind Dragon - This Dragon is a mighty sea hunter. At thirty feet standing at the shoulder, its most common prey are whales and large fish such as sharks. It's a dominant predator in almost all corners of the sea, often battling with its other Dragon cousins whenever their paths cross.

Goddess Dragon - Named for its beautiful and profound coloration and shape, this Dragon is considered holy by almost all life forms and is respected and given its space under almost all circumstances. It is over one hundred feet long, and spends almost all of its time in the skies. To this day, nobody has ever seen this Dragon brought to the Earth.

Burning Dragon - This Dragon can set itself on fire, and has a nasty habit of inadvertently burning everything around it when it hunts, leaving a rather large trail of destruction in its wake. Thankfully, it rare comes down from the volcanic peaks around which it lives. It stands about sixteen feet at the shoulder.

Crystal Dragon - Another Dragon species hunted to extinction due to its beautiful crystalline scales and teeth. These Dragons were once one of nature's most beautiful spectacles, spanning all possible colors and sizes, they truly were work of the Gods. Alas, no longer.

Golden Dragon - The Golden Dragon is nearly extinct, being hunted for the fact that its scales are even more valuable than the metal after which they are named. They hide in deep caves and isolate themselves from the mortal world for fear of being hunted. They stand about twelve feet at the shoulder.

Petite Dragon - These Dragons are very small. At only a few inches long, they are almost akin to very large insects, which are their primary source of food. They are quite common in all areas of the world, and most mortals don't even acknowledge their existence because they're so used to seeing them as just another bird-like species.

Ironclap Dragon - These Dragons are only about six feet at the shoulder, but have some of the hardest scales in the Dragon Kingdom. They are quite docile, and are usually found in the mountains.

Longwing Dragon - So named because it has the longest wing to body ratio of any Dragon species. They are generally docile in nature, but they can be vicious when cornered or threatened. They have a powerful ice breath attack as well, and stand about twenty seven feet or so at the shoulder.

Blue-Dragon.jpg - These Dragons are seen only at night, and very rarely. They can blend with the darkness of the skies and meld their beautiful scales to shimmer like the stars they fly across in the night sky. Most would think they were just seeing a mirage if one flew overhead. They stand about eighteen feet at the shoulder.

The Newest Dragons!

Midnight Dragon - This Dragon's scales are a beautiful mixture of black and blue and help to disguise it perfectly in the night sky. It's a smaller Dragon, standing only about eight feet or so at the shoulder, but it has a special 6th sense which is unique to its kind which allows it to use magic to fly so that it doesn't need to flap its wings. This allows it to soar soundlessly in the sky.

Regal Dragon - What this Dragon lacks in its size and power it makes up for with powerful telekinetic abilities. Standing only six to seven feet at the shoulder, it's one of the smaller Dragon species, but again, its telekinesis makes up for it. This Dragon can bring Dragons in excess of fifty times its size and weight to a dead standstill using but a single thought. The downside is that this ability must be used sparingly whenever possible, as the mental strain can quickly exhaust the Dragon and leave it vulnerable to attack.

Cumulous Dragon - This Dragon has four wings, each lined with feathers instead of scales. Standing at about twelve feet at the shoulder, this is perhaps the most gentle of the Dragon species. Its peaceful nature made it a common guardian of villages and temples in ancient times passed. Alas, with the disappearance of the Dragons so long ago, this one too saw its time pass from this world.

Monstrous Dragon - This Dragon is the size of a mountain. When it hunches forward to stand on its front forearms, it stands about eighty feet at the shoulder alone. It has no breath attack, but a simple roar thrown in your direction can hit you with upwards of one hundred mile per hour winds. The upside to facing this Dragon is that it's not very intelligent, and has very slow reaction time to what's going on around it because of its typically sedentary lifestyle. Once it finds a mountain to nest on, it rarely leaves it, and often times becomes covered in dock and dirt over the years and becomes part of the mountain it roosts on.

Ruby Eyed Dragon - The Ruby Eyed Dragon looks like the Dragon version of a Chimera. This Dragon's head is large and broad, with a quadrupedal stance mimicking that of a lion and having a long and slender tail. This Dragon is most often found guarding temples and caves where its kind ruled in the ancient past. It is extremely aggressive and territorial, and will not hesitate to attack anything which comes its way. It stands about twelve to fourteen feet at the shoulder and has a fierce fire breath attack.

Nerrva Dragon - This Dragon lived in desert environments and was primarily a scavenger, though it would not pass up fresh meat which it could catch and overpower. It has a devastating breath attack which does not spout fire, but instead spouts pure energy in the form of overwhelming heat in excess of 900 degrees Fahrenheit. The strongest fire breath attack from another Dragon species measures only about 500 degrees Fahrenheit. This Dragon is very intelligent, but typically keeps to itself in its desert home where it doesn't bother anyone and nobody else bothers it. It stands about sixteen to eighteen feet at the shoulder.

Holy Dragon - This dragon is possessed of pure white, beautifully-reflective scales, which catch angled light and throw it back onto surfaces, usually as prismatic rainbows. These were coveted for their curative properties, but unlike the Crystal Dragons, the Holy Dragons recognized this and managed to save themselves from extinction, if only just. At a relatively small eighteen feet at the shoulder on average, they are among the wisest of all subspecies, and though their claws and teeth are fearsome, their primary ability lies not with a breath weapon or overpowering strength, but the hypnotic, calming quality of their voices, should they choose to lift them in song. A Holy Dragon's song has the ability to pacify aggressive foes, and they can speak telepathically, though not in such a way as to be able to plant suggestions or influence minds. That power belongs to their voices alone.

Aegis Dragon - Standing an average of thirty feet at the shoulder, an Aegis dragon is kin to the other storm-aligned subspecies, and like them, able to wield lightning if it is already present. Their true strength, however, lies in the incredibly-durable steel or obsidian-colored scales that protect their bodies. Stronger than enchanted metals and resistant to the breath powers of other dragons, they give the Aegis a dangerous tenacity and capacity to take damage. Their most recognizable feature is their wings, which seem to be aglow with the contained light of their natural element, though it's not connected to any of their abilities and is more a convenient way to see when flying at night over the ocean than anything, and can be suppressed if needed.

Synth Dragon - Even this dragon's name seems foreign to this world. Standing at 25 feet at the shoulder, this dragon is a fine example of a being who sacrifices neither speed, nor power in its biological design. Its scales are some of the hardest in the Dragon Kingdom, and the glowing golden lines along its neck and wings give it a strange and otherworldly appearance. Legends say that the Dragon's blue liquid "breath" attack can melt other Dragon's scales clean off, but these are no more than legends. Despite the fact that it cannot actually accomplish that feat, it is never the less a very potent attack. Aside from this strange, liquid "breath", the Synth Dragon has no other avenues of attack save it's claws and wings. It is described in the legends as an unintentional troublemaker, traveling the stars and fraternizing with the gods themselves.

I think the Great Earth dragon would be the perfect match and contrast with Tallulah because she is petite and weak physically while this dragon is simply huge and imposing body-wise.
So I'd like to take the Great Earth Dragon.

Silly UnderBlack. The point is to pick a Dragon which most closely represents your character, not that which contrasts it.

I have since brought a small bonus of six new Dragons to the list in "The Dragons" OOC thread which you may look at when you have time. I think you'll find one of them to be a near perfect match for Tallulah in every respect.

I will be adding yet more Dragons in the days to come when I have time in my schedule which permits me to do so. Again, if you guys have ideas for new Dragons, feel free to bring them to my attention and we'll talk about bringing them into the RP.

I'm leaning towards Ebon for Llewellyn and Typhoon for Lysander, but I might do an image search or two and see if I can come up with something suitably interesting and balanced, or if maybe one of the others you put up in the future seems to fit better.

Thanks again for the acceptances. :)

Then I guess the Regal Dragon would suit Tallulah.
