Lucian's style makes him stand out from the crowd. It’s androgynous and dramatic, the type of look that makes people do a double take. Lucian doesn’t follow the trends. He doesn’t even set them. He carves out a path and has his own independent look. For the most part, his look is relatively monochrome, with black, white, and grey is being his primary colours. But when he wears colour, he uses with effect, always using to emphasize an outfit and bring it together instead of overpowering it.

Lucian is not the type of person you’d walk past without noticing, and he leans in to that. A strong bone structure and piercing blue eyes make him striking, sometimes seeing as if they could see into your soul. He’s been bleaching his hair since he was eighteen, but you’d never know as he takes immaculate care of it. He sometimes dip dyes the ends, but always keeps it blonde and in exceptional condition. He’s no stranger to wearing makeup, and usually accentuates those piercing eyes with dark makeup. He has a number of tattoos, all places that are easy to cover. His scars are all faded and barely noticeable, but look closely enough and the silver lines are there. He has a number of piercings in both ears.

lucian is the last person you'd expect to be a villain. he's expressive and incredibly friendly with customers and his co-workers. he's melodramatic and expressive, physically affectionate with his friends and anyone he knows. he's the go to friend for any form of advice, and he’s the type of friend to give it without being asked, especially when it comes to fashion. he’s the type to sit back and sip his iced coffee and laugh instead of getting involved in a dispute.

but beneath the surface, luc is struggling deeply. he was bounced from foster home to foster home with a care worker who didn’t give a damn when luc disappeared at the age of fifteen. he lost a part of his ability following the traumatic experience and it’s felt like a part of him has been missing ever since. he’s got a lot of unresolved anger, anger that he can only vent through illegal activities, anything that gives him an adrenaline rush. he just wants to feel alive. there’s a part of him that wants to get caught, that wants to come face to face with the people that let him down and to hold them accountable. he wants them to see what they made.

luc is incredibly ambitious and always has been. he didn’t go to university but isn’t letting that stop him. he build the lucian mitchell brand from scratch, designing and making his own clothes, photographing his own shoots, modeling his own clothes. working for himself and doing everything himself gives him the freedom to work around his more... nefarious work. he’s driven and a little cold, not caring about what he does or who he hurts. there’s something about chaos that keeps him alive in so many ways. he would love a normal life but there’s a part of him that feels he’s far too gone to ever go back, to ever get better. he knows he’s broken and fully embraces it. he’s been that way so long that he doesn’t know how to be put together again.

lucian never knew his parents. he was abandoned at birth and entered the foster system straight away. he bounced around from foster home to foster home, never staying anywhere that long. the care worker he had for his first few years of life was wonderful. she really tried to find luc somewhere nice, somewhere he would always fit in. and then she went on maternity leave and never returned to her job. luc’s new careworker didn’t give a damn. luc stayed bouncing around from foster home to foster home, being put in places that really weren’t suitable. he never found anywhere he fit, never stayed anywhere long. his abilities only complicated things, made it harder to find somewhere that accepted him.

he was fifteen and was in his worst foster home yet. he had already run away from home and was on the streets. nobody had looked for him. he’d seen a few heroes, had been inspired by them and all the good they did. one hero in particular, a hero with the ability of telekinesis. he saw luc at the back of a crowd and spoke to him, offered him help and told him that if he was ever in trouble, he would help. only a few hours later, luc was kidnapped. he did everything he could to alert the outside world, to alert the hero. but there was nothing. no help. luc had to use his own ability to escape. the stress of having to use so much of his ability without being able to rest his body overwhelmed his brain and his powers started to fail. he was found by a villain who brought him to the hospital, having taken pity on him. his care worker had finally reported him missing, but nobody had looked for him. not even the hero who had promised him that he would always help.

the heroes continued to fail him. he asked for their help again and again with trying to figure out what was wrong with his abilities. they refused to listen, refused to help. in reality they didn’t know how. he ran away from his foster home again and ended up on the streets again. with nothing else to do, no other way to survive, he started stealing, using his abilities again. the villains found out about him and took him under their wing. he quickly gained infamy and found himself a job doing something he somewhat enjoyed. he hasn’t looked back since.

A B I L I T I E S
lucian has the ability to manipulate psychic energy. he can use it to move objects with his mind and manifest the energy as physical blasts to incapacitate and kill. he can form a shield around himself in order to protect himself from physical attacks. he used to be able to read minds using it, but lost the ability in his late teens. he still occasionally has flashes of being able to read other people's thoughts, but can't control it. his ability is largely linked with his emotions. if he loses control of his emotions, he loses control of his ability. for years, he's had an iron tight grip on his ability and his emotions. his abilities massively drain him and after a job, he often has to sleep for sixteen, eighteen hours straight in order to recover. his whole body aches, and he gets serious migraines. he's incredibly powerful but pays for every ounce of energy.

T A L E N T S
Lucian has an incredible eye for photography, especially portraits. Despite his relatively young age and the fact he never finished high school, he’s made a name for himself as a fashion designer. He’s artistic in all ways. He’s a good chef, but his baking skills leave something to be desired.

S T R E N G T H S
He’s incredibly powerful. He’s a master tactician and can always figure out a way to get out of a situation. He can pick almost any lock, get around even the most complex computer security, and knows how to avoid the cameras. He’s also got a surprising ability to sober up almost instantly if he needs it, but he hates having to do it.

W E A K N E S S E S
Lucian is self destructive and when he gets drunk, he gets really drunk. He’s got an addictive personality and becomes addicted to things and people easily. He hates opening up to people and is more likely to close up and shove people away instead of letting them in. He’s a disaster baker and has nearly burned down his kitchen on a number of occasions trying to bake.

Lucian just watched as Markus carefully spread his things around him, making sure that he could easily reach them. He didn't know why Markus was being so kind. Nobody had shown Lucian this kindness for... years. Even when he'd been such an angry kid, when all he'd needed was a little kindness, all he got was rolled eyes and frustration. Even in the hospital, after... after the last time, their sympathy had started to wear thin when Lucian wasn't completely compliant. But despite the fact that they were supposed to be on opposite sides, they were supposed to be completely different... Markus was different. Even after Lucian's drunken tantrum, he still seemed to care. Lucian got the impression it would take a lot worse to fully drive Markus away.

Maybe someone like him could actually do a bit of good in this hellish city if they were given the chance.

"Nope, I think that's everything. Enough to keep me going for a while anyway. Hey, Markus?" He said, before the hero turned to get back to his work. "Thank you. For everything. I know I'm... not always the easiest to work with. So it... it means a lot that you haven't given up on me yet." He said, not quite able to meet Markus' eyes. Then he cleared his throat. "Right, that's your quota of emotion for the day. Piss off and get back to work," he said, flipping open his own laptop.

There was more emails awaiting him than he'd expected, and they all seemed to require some amount of thought. They took longer than he'd anticipated, and he spent the rest of the afternoon working on them, occasionally calling out questions to Markus or yelling a response back. But eventually, he'd cleared his inbox, and preparations for the ball seemed to be on track. Lucian could feel his eyes growing heavy. But afraid to risk more nightmares yet, he forced himself to get out of the bed and go downstairs to Markus. It hurt like a bitch to do so, and he was glad when he finally reached the couch, but at least he felt a little less like he was going to fall asleep. "Okay, so. Officially, I will have to pull out of the ball due to illness. I've cancelled my public appearances for the next few weeks to confirm that much, not that there was all that many anyway. If they knew I was going to be at the event, they'd probably expect retaliation and won't come. But maybe now they might think they've scared off big bad Maelstrom and they can go have a party in peace before carrying out their dastardly plans... Confirmed one or two other things for the party. Managed not to fall back asleep."

"You know, I'm not a half bad cook. How's about I make you dinner to say thank you for everything?" he asked, yawning and running a hand through his hair.

Lucian just grinned as Markus mentioned he’d be there and be able to blend in. β€œOh don’t you worry darling, Maelstrom will be there, lurking behind the scenes. You might just have to pout to one or two cameras and say how gutted I am that I can’t be there but I’m just too unwell.” He wouldn’t miss the opportunity to get his revenge for the world. Not after everything. Not after this.

He pouted teasingly as Markus joked about burning down his apartment. β€œI’m hurt, Markus, deeply hurt. This is a wound that may never heal.” He said dramatically, before his face broke into a grin, almost of its own free will. β€œGod only knows what you’ll have to do to make it up to me,” he said with a wink, before getting to his feet and having to hold in a groan as he did so. The pain had at least started to ease while he was still, but moving hurt like hell. He moved slowly and carefully over to the kitchen and began searching for ingredients.

β€œTrust me, darling, I’ve been on my own for this long and I haven’t burned down an apartment or starved to death yet. Had a few close calls but it all worked out in the end,” he said. Those first few cooking experiments had been pretty terrible and while he joked about them now, he hadn’t forgotten that feeling of hopelessness, of feeling like he’d never get past it. Somebody should have been teaching him to cook while he was still in his teens. Instead, he was fighting for his life on the streets and getting his hands on whatever food he could. And he’d been one of the lucky ones.

He found enough ingredients to make a decent curry and started prepping the ingredients. β€œYou’re in luck, darling, I’ve been told my curry is to die for. It was the easiest way to wrap one of my exes around my finger if I wanted something.” It was almost concerning how comfortable he felt around Markus, how easily these stories slipped out. And as much as it terrified him that he was getting that close to someone again... there was a part of him that was so, so relieved to be able to talk to someone again.

Lucian had heard some people say they found cooking therapeutic. Well, Lucian wouldn’t have gone that far, but he did find it grounding. It kept it from getting too distracted in his own thoughts, kept him from getting too wrapped up in anything. He was conscious that he wasn’t in his own kitchen, and totally aware of the hero’s eyes on him, probably watching him to make sure he didn’t actually burn down the kitchen.

Lucian plated up the food and put a plate down in front of Markus, who now appeared to be lost in thought. He shook himself a little and apologized, saying he was lost in thought. His reaction to the food made Lucian smile. He didn’t say anything, but he didn’t need to. He could tell by the speed Markus was eating that he enjoyed it, and seeing that smile on Markus’ face for what seemed like the first time in a while made him smile too.

Goddammit, he needed to be careful. Markus mightn’t have been like the others, but he was still a hero. Lucian was only good to him as long as he was useful. The minute they were done with this, Markus would probably hand him over to the cops... and that was the best case scenario. He should know better by now. A hero’s promise wasn’t worth the air it used.

Markus shocked him out of his thoughts, saying he wanted to go down to the shop to check in with his boss. Of course, he had an actual day job. Lucian knew that over the next few days, he’d need to start doing some actual work again, but that seemed unimportant right now. There was just too much at stake. β€œDo whatever you need to do, darling. Which reminds me, I really need to get working on those lovely suits of ours for this masquerade. Last chance to request any alterations,” he said with a raised eyebrow. And then he caught himself. β€œWe also need to get planning some strategies. Training regimes for the next few days to make sure we’re both back up to strength, plans for the night itself, and of course, any recon opportunities we might have between now and then,” he said.

Lucian just raised his eyebrows as Markus implied his suit was "out there" last time. Sure, it hadn't exactly been just a plain old boring suit, but it hadn't been that- But he had a point. They unfortunately needed to blend in at this one, which meant simple. He just nodded as Markus said he would be back soon and that he'd message Luc if there were any issues. He grabbed his laptop from the loft, before settling back down on the couch to get a bit of work done on designing the suits. But no matter what he did, he couldn't concentrate. Something at the back of his mind was nagging at him, telling him that something wasn’t right. He told himself that he was just anxious, uneasy about being alone. But after a while, he became certain that it was more than just that. He slammed his laptop shut. He was still in Markus’ borrowed clothes, which would be good for helping him remain under the radar. He searched for just a moment to find a hoodie, before pulling it on and tucking his hair into the hood. Markus had left his knives to the side, and Lucian shoved two of them into his pocket, before leaving the apartment.

He wasn’t enough of an idiot to follow Markus’ trail exactly. That could raise attention they didn’t need. Instead, he made his own way to the tattoo studio and hung around until he saw Markus leaving, looking a little disgruntled. He was starting to think that he’d just been paranoid, that the events of the past few days had gotten to him. And then he saw them. A group of figures, hanging closely behind Markus. Lucian began to tail them. And when they started to get too close… Lucian struck. The first one was on the ground before he’d even realised he’d been stabbed. The second managed to begin to throw a punch, but Lucian easily dodged, his knife plunging into his stomach. The next managed to draw a gun, managed to fire off a shot, but it missed Luc, who knocked the gun out of his hand and slashed the man across the face, before slamming the man back into the wall. β€œYou tell me what you know, or you die,” he hissed, the knife against the man’s jugular. He could see the man swallow, see the man try to decide which he valued more- his employer or his life.

β€œThey’ve been watching you. Watching both of your apartments, any time you leave we’ve been ordered to tail you and try and attack you. Capture is preferable but if you put up too much of a fight or draw too much attention, we’re just to kill you. Please, don’t, I never-”

β€œWho’s employing you?” Lucian asked, pressing his knife a little harder to get the man’s attention and stop the pleading. Again, Lucian could see him trying to make that decision all over again. And again, he gave Luc what he wanted, telling Lucian the name he’d already been expecting. β€œGood.” And then in a swift movement, he plunged the knife in the other hand into the man’s gut, stepping away and turning to Markus. β€œAre you okay?” He asked, but didn’t wait for an answer before he started cleaning up the mess. This was an easy clean up, easy to pass off as a fight gone wrong. He wiped down the knives with his sleeves, kicking it across the ground to make it look like it had been dropped, before pressing one of the grunts’ hand’s against it, doing the same with the other. He never liked leaving his knives behind, but sometimes, it was necessary to cover his tracks. Once he was happy, he straightened back up.

β€œListen to me. We only have a matter of time before they realise we’re not being followed. I have somewhere we can stay until we get a concrete plan in place. I’ll send you the address. Go home, get enough clothes and supplies for a few days, bring our laptops, anything else you think we might need. We probably only have a few hours. I’ll meet you there.”

Luc turned and left again, heading back to his own apartment. He knew it was a risk, knew they could be waiting for him. So he was cautious when he got back to his apartment and it was empty. He shoved some clothes into a bag with a few more weapons, as well as supplies for making their suits. He didn’t know how long they’d be gone, but he wasn’t coming back here if he could avoid it.

His bag packed, he left the apartment, keeping his head down, sending the address to Markus as he walked. He’d been renting out this apartment for a while, just to have in case things went south. He paid cash, and in return, the landlord kept a fake name and details on record. It was in a rougher part of town, but it did the job. As he got in, though, he suddenly realised that it was… considerably smaller than both his and Markus’ apartments, only really meant for one person at a time, and not really furnished for comfort. It wasn’t ideal, but it would do for a few days. It would have to.

Luc was investigating the contents of the apartment, trying to figure out if there was anything else they'd need, when there was a knock at the door. He instinctively froze, before Markus' voice rang out from the hallway. Lucian smirked as he opened the door. "Keep that up and you'll be sleeping on the floor," he warned.

"So we have basic supplies. Canned food, ramen, shit like that. You might have to get inventive if you're trying to impress me with breakfast, unless you brought supplies for those scrambled eggs. We can probably risk one or two trips to get groceries but we'll have to be super incognito about it. I've called in a few favours, and I have eyes on this apartment with the intention of finding out how long it takes this apartment to be found and watched." He called as he continued checking the cupboards, making a mental note of what they had. "And, perhaps most importantly," he said with a triumphant grin as he reached in and pulled the bottles from the back of the cupboard. "We have alcohol."

"We also have a fully stocked medical kit, and when I mean fully stocked, I mean I could nearly run an emergency department out of this apartment. Don't ask how I got some of it, you won't like the answer." Luc stopped, turning to look at Markus as a memory hit him. "You... you got hurt saving me, didn't you? How's it doing? You want me to check it or change the dressings or anything on it?" The concern in his own voice nearly took him aback. God, caring this much about a hero was not going to end well. "Can't have you dying on me. Drink?" He said, eager not to dwell on it.

xxxOops I did it again, I
xxxForgot what I was losing my mind about
xxxI only wrote this down to make you press rewind
xxxAnd send a message, "I was young and a menace"
Markus chuckled as Lucian retorted with a snide remark as he was welcomed into the apartment, which ended up being much smaller than he expected. But it would do for now, it had to. "I've slept in worse places." he said with a small grin. If this place was to be their base of operations, as well as home, for now, they'd have to start unpacking. Which is what Markus got to right away. Putting the food in the cupboards and everything else where things belonged.

A sly girn formed across his face when Lucian mentioned he'd have to get inventive for breakfast, seeing how they had plenty of supplies in food that wouldn't require much work. This much was true, he hadn't thought about breakfast ideas. He'd have to work with what they had. "I'm sure I can come up with something. Never underestimate someone in the kitchen. I may not have ended up in culinary school, but I know how to make things work." Markus said with a small wink before turning back around to rifle through his bag once more as he was trying to figure out what else he brought. Only looking up when he heard Lucian say they had alcohol. Which, at this point in time sounded like one of the very few things he actually wanted. "Perfect." a small chuckle came from his mouth.

Markus' attention was taken back yet again when Lucian mentioned the amount of medical supplies they had. Making note that they probably had anything and everything they'd need. Which was a relief, and his expression must have shown slight concern by Lucian's next comment of not wanting to say where he got it all from. Maybe it was for the better he didn't ask. At the mention of him having gotten hurt, Markus couldn't help but acknowledge the numbing pain in his side, even at the mere mention of it brought him slight pain. The look on Lucian's face wasn't something he had been expecting, it seemed to be genuine concern and worry. Even if Lucian wasn't going to acknowledge it, it was evident enough. He wasn't entirely bad. Licking his lips for a moment as he slowly stood back up to his feet, "I uh, I haven't really thought about it but. It probably does need to be rebandaged and taken care of. I've just been so preoccupied with everything, I sort of...Forgot?" he said with a small, awkward chuckle. For those that knew Markus, he never fully looked after himself like he should have, always seeing his own personal health as a last resort. Evident by the scars and marks that covered most of his body, clearly not healing very well, or even properly. Markus probably would have gone on to have forgotten about the wound if he hadn't been reminded of it.

Luc smirked at Markus' response to the alcohol, glad that they agreed on that much. He took two glasses out of the cupboard and filled them both with a measure of whiskey. He frowned a little as Markus said he'd almost forgotten about the wound. Luc wasn't quite sure how exactly a person could do that and decided that the hero evidently had an insane pain tolerance. As if that wasn't obvious.

"Right, bathroom, we'll get you cleaned up then," he said. "Drink this first," he said, pressing the glass into Markus' hand. He was tempted to down his own glass, but figured that probably wouldn't make Markus feel any better, so simply put it down on the coffee table. He went into the bathroom and dug out the supplies he would need, washing his hands.

"I know this really isn't the circumstances either of us thought I'd be saying this in, but take your shirt off," he instructed. "You need painkillers or anything? When your ability means that you frequently feel like you've been hit by a bus the day after a job, you make a point of keeping a supply of strong painkillers anywhere you could end up after a job," he added as he knelt down to look at the wound, finding he had the best view of it that way. Gently, he touched the skin around the wound to examine it. "Stitches all look fine. Might clean it up a little and put a clean bandage on it. It's probably gonna scar no matter what, but let's see what we can do to minimise that, mm?" He said. He'd done this too many times before. Back when he was basically still a kid, working in teams of people, when they'd have to patch each other up after a job. Talking kept people conscious, kept them focused on you, minimised the amount of pain they were in. And sometimes if it was too late, it would just make sure they didn't feel alone.

Markus stood there awkwardly as Lucian forced the cup of alcohol into his hand, insisting he drank it as it would help. Markus couldn't exactly deny that, even if he wanted to. Quickly gulping the alcohol in one go, Markus slightly reeled back from the burn it brought. Maybe he didn't think it through clearly. He blinked as Lucian said he'd have to get the wound recleaned and tended to, starting with him having to remove his shirt. "...Huh?" was all that he was able to get out as he blinked confusedly. Did Markus hear that correctly? Not only that he'd have to remove his shirt for the wound to be treated, but it was the comment Lucian made. What did he mean this wasn't the situation neither of them thought he'd be saying this?? He didn't have enough time to argue as Lucian more or less helped him remove his shirt, tossing it to the side as he stood in stunned silence. Still trying to process what was even happening.

Begrudgingly, Markus sat down on one of the stools so Lucian could get a proper look at the wound, seeing what he had to work with. He tended to zone out when he was tended to, not really paying attention. It was an odd way to cope, something he learned when he was a small child. He never had a rhyme or reason, it was just something he picked up over the years. Markus didn't pay much attention as Lucian helped clean and rebandage it, only coming back to reality when Lucian mentioned the wound, and how there would be minimal scarring at least. Something he wasn't entirely surprised about, and often used to. "Yeah...Thanks, Lucian..." Markus mumbled under his breath, looking down at the floor as he kept his face pointed away from Lucian. Markus didn't reallty know what to say or do, about any of this. He was getting way over his head here, this whole thing was a nightmare. But he had to remember why he was doing any of this to begin with. "It's just been a rough few days I think, for the both of us...Sorry." Markus mumbled once more as he slowly stood up from the stool and looked around. "We should probably try to figure out what we're gonna do about all of this, not like we have all that much to work off of but, we'll figure something out. Right?" he said with a shadow of a smirk on his face.

Markus was clearly more out of it than Luc had realised as he simply looked confused at his comment about taking his shirt off, instead of a usual witty comment. He wasn't quite meeting Lucian's eyes. At first, he wasn't quite sure why, and played it down as just the brain and stress of the situation. But as Lucian handed him back his shirt and Markus began rambling about how they'd had a rough few days, it clicked why Markus seemed to be looking at him differently. He'd just seen Lucian kill three men in cold blood, without a hesitation, and make the whole thing look like a fight gone wrong. Markus was a hero, and Luc had almost forgotten that. He was probably horrified at what he'd seen.

He headed back out to the kitchen as Markus asked what they needed to do, draining his own glass and pouring himself another. "Yeah, sure, we can work something out," he said, throwing himself down on the couch. "It just feels like we're going to have to get a little smarter with our thinking. They have us outnumbered by... hundreds, probably. If we just keep fighting, our luck is going to run out at some point." He mused.

"We have to assume they're tracking us. Probably tracking our cards, our devices, everything like that. I can do something about that, make sure we're not being bugged, make sure we can't be tracked. Obvious thing would be to just pay in cash from now on, but... just to screw with them, we could also buy a bunch of shit and have them sent to random locations and have them show up to random apartments across the city. That could also raise public suspicion, like why the hell did cops show up days after a random package showed up?" He continued, reaching into one of the bags and retrieving his laptop. As he spoke, he ran a scan on his laptop. Once he was happy it hadn't been compromised, he checked in on the tracker he'd sent in the gala invitation.

"As far as I'm aware, they don't suspect anything about the invitation, they really think it's legit. Even the ones who have gotten a VIP invite to our very special drinks reception don't seem to have realised anything. So we have to hope that stays consistent." he took another sip from his drink. "So, hero boy, any thoughts or plans or suggestions? Don't let the big bad Maelstrom monologue for too long," he teased, his tone light. It was as much a warning and a reminder to himself as anything. A hero and a villain. This couldn't, wouldn't, last. If they succeeded, they'd be on opposite sides again.

Markus sat down on one of the chairs in the living room across from Lucian as he thought for a moment as Lucian said they could come up with something. They always did, somehow. If it was pure luck or fate, they always managed to pull things off in the end. Maybe this could end the same as well, he hoped they did anyway.

He nodded his head as Lucian suggested that they were probably being tracked by their devices as well as way of purchasing things. Which, made sense and he wasn't even surprised if that was the case. Would only make sense for this to be the case. Markus found himself getting all too comfortable in the chair that he had curled up in, resting his head on his knees as he listened to Lucian continue to speak, nodding every time he agreed with something in hopes of Lucian knowing he was paying attention, but was just very, very tired. Markus almost hadn't realized just how tired he was until he finally sat down and let himself become comfortable, "Yeah, sounds good to me, Lucian.." he said with a small yawn before snapping himself back awake and out of his sleepy state.

"Well, the fact they believe everything so far is a bonus on our part, just means that the ball is in our court now and we have to play things smart....Which, is just great." he mused for a moment, scratching his chin for a moment as he thought. "If they start closing in on us, and being out becomes too dangerous...It'd mean I'd have to quit my day job, my boss won't be very happy about that but, I'm already treading a very thing line with her, and if it means keeping her say and away from their point of interest, I can suffer the loss." Markus muttered, running his hand through his hair as he slowly sat back up.

"You don't...You don't think they'd go after her, right? Try to get to me through that way? I wouldn't put it past them but, I'll leave her out of this." he said quietly as he folded his hands. Markus thought for a moment, clearly the gears in his head began turning for a moment, "Eh, forget it...We can work on this in the morning when my brain isn't fried...Speaking of which, want some food? I'm sure I can figure something out for tonight." Markus said with a small grin as he slowly got to his feet and began making his way back into the kitchen.

Lucian raised an eyebrow in amusement as Markus yawned, before practically shaking himself awake. The hero looked exhausted, and Luc couldn't blame him for that. They both were running practically on empty, and he just wished they had enough time to recover so they could be at their best. But it was time he wasn't sure they had, so they'd just have to manage.

Markus had a point about quitting his job. It was much, much easier for Luc to just vanish and leave no trace. His entire life had been set up to allow him to do just that. Lucian just shrugged as Markus asked if he thought they'd go after her. They'd entered an entirely new phase now, and it was hard to know how they were going to react. If Lucian was being honest, he thought it was not only possible, but likely. They weren't going to be happy about the two of them practically vanishing in to thin air. But Markus didn't seem to want to dwell on it, so he stashed the thought away for when they were both a little sharper. Lucian could feel the exhaustion and the pain beginning to tug on his own mind. He nodded as Markus offered to make them food. "Well, if you're offering, darling, that sounds great." He stood up and followed Markus out to the kitchen, grabbing the bottle of whiskey and topping up both their glasses.

"I probably have mixers somewhere here if you want to be a little more classy," he mused, before discovering he had left a bottle of Coke in the fridge. "Fuck yeah." He topped up his own glass with some and climbed on to the counter a little bit away from where Markus would be cooking, cradling his glass. "So. What do you want to talk about that doesn't involve this crazy... thing we're trying to do? Because we're practically living together and I know next to nothing about you other than a suitably tragic heroic backstory."

Markus gave Lucian a grin as he refilled their drinks once more as Lucian made his way into the kitchen as he confirmed it was alright for Markus to make some food. If they could figure out what they had, he'd be able to scrounge up something for them to eat. "Fancy? What about this says fancy?" Markus said with a chuckle as he motioned to himself, pointing out the fact that he indeed had no sense of fashion or style. "But I'll let you know if I reconsider." he said with a small, playful wink as he went looking through the cupboards for something, anything. Walking back by the counter, he scooped up the shot glass that had been refilled and quickly downed it once more after having found some boxes of food that could be prepared with the use of the stove and water.

Markus turned the stove on as he began to boil some water as he planned on making some of the boxed mac n cheese that Lucian had in the cupboards. It wouldn't be anything fancy, but he had some tricks up his sleeve. He arched an eyebrow as Lucian spoke up, a bit taken a back by his question. He wasn't prepared for him to be questioned about his life, or his past. There could have been anything that Lucian could want to talk about, and he chose to ask some questions about Markus? Who simply only shrugged his shoulders a bit as the water began to boil as he opened up the boxes and went over the ingredients that they had to work with, "Well, there's not really much to know, honestly., Markus started. "It's a cliche but, my parents were murdered when I was younger, bounced back between foster care for the majority of my life before I was forced to live on my own. The early years are just...Bit of a blur?" his voice was more of a quizical nature than he had originally planned. If he was to be honest, even Markus couldn't exactly remember some parts of his earlier years, but didn't plan on thinking about it for very long. "Took up odd jobs and did what I could to make it by before well, I landed a job at the parlor and the rest is kind of history, ya know?" he said with a shrug as he poured the contents of the boxes into the pot and let it boil on the stove as he took a few steps away and leaned back against the counter.

"Aside from the boring things well...I'm kind of a boring person in comparison to you I guess. I'm not so flashy or out there in the public eye like some may be." Markus said with a small grin as he gave a nod to Lucian. Crossing his arms over his chest as he thought for a moment, "I guess the most interesting things that I do, or have to say about me is that I have a motorcycle that I built myself and do photography on the side? It's nothing special, or really big but, I have a bit of an impressive portfolio but, it's nothing I can see taking off as a professional job. Not that skilled with it, just a small hobby, ya know?" Markus shrugged, and quickly made his way back to the stove as he stirred the noodles and water a bit more as he emptied out the other packets into the pot and let the food boil down a little bit longer before he finished dishing it out and split it into two portions, but not before putting in some extra ingredients to help make it less bland before handing Lucian a bowl. Leaning back against the counter as he took a few bites as he pondered for a moment, "Sorry if it's not the quality of food you're used to but, it'll have to do for now. We can always pick up some better ingredients and figure out food options at some point. Which, also leads into my next thing about me, it didn't go anywhere, obviously. But I did go to culinary school for a few years which, helped with learning how to fend for myself but, it's not all that impressive." Markus simply muttered as he gave another shrug. Looking back up after taking a few more bites of food, "Now, what about you? What things about you do I not know?"

Luc listened to Markus speak, sipping his drink the whole time. It was always interesting to see past people’s outer shells, to see the real them beneath. Sometimes, it showed a whole new side, other times, it explained everything. Somehow, Markus’ story just seemed to fit what he knew and what he expected. Markus having an interest in photography was a surprise, though, and Luc found himself raising an eyebrow. He took the bowl of food, nodding appreciatively. He hadn’t realised how hungry he was until he started to eat.

β€œOh damn, culinary school, photography, and good with your hands? The full package,” he said, laughing. He shrugged as Markus asked him about himself. β€œAfraid that I’m not quite as accomplished. I didn’t even finish high school. Only reason I ended up anywhere decent was when I ran into my old social worker when I was seventeen. She managed to get me an internship with a local fashion designer. I don’t know how she managed to do it, because I was this angry homeless kid who was probably several people’s idea of a nightmare. But they gave me a shot and... well, the rest is history. The writing and photography started as a blog and as a sideline of making money, and it took off. So, hey, if you ever do want to go professional with the photography, I know people,” he said, grinning at him.

β€œSo for the fun stuff... I used to draw. Portraits, mostly, but i’m probably a bit rusty now. Taught myself to cook, nearly burned the apartment down several times, but I got there eventually. Still haven’t cracked baking yet. And... well, this might be scandalous, but...” He dropped his voice to a stage whisper. β€œI’m not a natural blonde.” He drained his glass and put his empty bowl aside.

β€œThat was really good. Someone’s gonna be really lucky to have you some day,” he said with a wink. He watched Markus for a minute or two. β€œRefill?” He asked, holding up the bottle as he poured himself another glass. β€œSo... you don’t have to answer this but... you keep saying I’m not your type. Am I not your type, as in you prefer brunettes? Or not your... type,” he said, raising an eyebrow.

Markus simply shook his head with a muttered chuckle at Lucian's comment, figured he'd go somewhere like that. "It's just a side gig, nothing more." he said with a shrug. He didn't picture his simple hobby of photography becoming anything special or professionally ran. It was just something he did, as for cooking, he had no real other choice if he wanted to be able to look after himself. As for the last comment, he ignored it entirely and simply just listened as Lucian answered his question, which he was genuinely shocked by. Listening to him explain that Lucian wasn't as accomplished as Markus was did make him a little sad, as he didn't see it as anything special. He just put the time and energy into it otherwise he would have let his problems and anger get to him. He probably wouldn't even have been the same if he didn't choose to spend it somewhere else.

A small smile creased his lips as Lucian offered that if he ever wanted his photography to step into professional territory, he'd be able to make it happen. It was tempting, if he was being honest, but he just wasn't very certain of what he wanted to do. Markus put the empty dishes into the sink and filled up his glass once more as Lucian had offered a refill, and he listened to what Lucian had to say. A small chuckle came from him at the comment of almost burning down his apartment. He could picture it if he was being honest, and it made him genuinely smile. Which, was all too short lived as Lucian had asked something that had genuinely made him freeze. Not the comment of the food he made, Markus was happy that even basic food was good enough, but the part of someone being lucky enough to have him one day, and then his actual question about his hair and if that was why Markus didn't like him. At least a dozen different questions raced his mind as he thought for an answer, not just a sarcastic, snide remark. But an actual answer.

Markus sighed slightly as he brushed his hand through his hair before taking a sip of his drink as he looked down, "Well..To be completely honest?" he said with raised eyebrows, preparing him for what he was going to say next. "After my last relationship ended after a pretty toxic three years, I uh...Tended to not dwell on relationships. They just made things...Complicated." he said with a sigh, resting his hands against the counter. "You fall for someone, they become a liability that can be used against you, and I wouldn't put anyone in that kind of position. Besides...I don't think someone like me, a no-body, would reflect well on Mr. BigShot over here." he said as he vaguely gestured towards Lucian. "Plus, brunnettes aren't exactly my type, if I were to be honest. Your hair looks fine as is, Lucian." he said with a small smile before walking over to the couch, and grabbed Lucian's computer and placed it onto his lap, "Anyway, where do we start first?"

Lucian regretted his question the minute he opened his mouth, realizing that it wasn’t quite as playful as he imagined. Markus’ answer made him feel worse, and he just stared at his hands. Even the attempt at a joke just managed to make Lucian fake a smile. It was only when Markus picked up his laptop that he scrambled off the counter and practically ran over to reclaim it. β€œNo, no, no, that’s my baby, no touchie!” He said, snatching it back and grinning. β€œNo offense but I do not trust people with this, I’ve spent far too long modifying this and getting everything the way I like it,” he explained. β€œI can check out and modify your laptop to make it secure, but no touchie.”

β€œAnd… sorry if I touched a nerve. Mostly I just wanted to check that my gaydar is still functional,” he teased. β€œI know what it’s like. Every relationship I’ve had has blown up in our faces and half the time, I think it’s been my own fault. I don’t blame you for not wanting to get involved.” He cleared his throat and stood up again to retrieve his glass from the kitchen, taking a sip as he came back in. When he came back in, he sat down cross-legged on the floor, his back against the couch, so Markus could see what he was doing. He called up the files he’d established on the people they were going to be targeting at the event.

β€œAnyway, our best bet is probably to just get a concrete idea of how things are going to go down on the night. How we get in, how we deal with this, and how we get out again. Everything else, we can work on from there. These are the people we’ll be dealing with. These aren’t the thugs we’ve dealt with thus far, these are the head honchos orchestrating the whole thing. But we can’t underestimate them from any point of view. They know us and they know what they’re dealing with.”

Markus couldn't help but let out a small chuckle as Lucian hopped off the counter and quickly took the computer out of his hands in a protective manner. Almost like a child in a sense. Which, part of Markus had to admit was somewhat endearing-no, no, no. He had to keep his mind on track. "Hey, no need to apologize. I wasn't going to break it, least not on purpose." he said with a small chuckle as he looked at the ground for a moment before Lucian apologized again. He simply gave a small shrug at first, "It's honestly no big deal, Luc. I just, don't exactly think they're for me anymore. That's all." he said with another shrug, before raising an eyebrow at the comment of a gaydar. He sat there in confusion for a moment before a realization hit him, which caused his body to stiffen for a moment in place. "Oh, that's what that was?" he said with a nervous chuckle, "I wouldn't exactly say gay, per say but...I just vibe with whoever I vibe with. Doesn't really matter about the finer details, I guess." Markus found himself shaking his head, second guessing himself for why he said that. Why did he? It didn't matter. "I'm just not into...Sleeping around, I guess? Not my thing, exactly." Markus said with another shrug as he fixed how he was sitting on the couch, seeing how his side began to hurt once more.

Markus gave a small smile as Lucian said that he knew what it was like to feel like things not working out was his own fault and he didn't blame him, "No one's perfect.." Markus found himself muttering. Markus looked back up as he saw Lucian sit infront of the couch with his computer in his lap, in a way that Markus could look over his shoulder. He simply nodded as Lucian began going over the plan again, mainly saying how they couldn't be able to to take them all on. These weren't just the average thugs they've been dealing with. He knew that, but at least they were both on the same page, it's all he cared about. Markus thought to himself for a moment, "Well, we already said that this was going to be a formal event, right? With masks and such? We'd have some way of keeping ourselves protected that way...Maybe have a back exit, just incase shit goes sideways and we need to get out of there?" Markus said as he tilted his head to the side slightly. "I'm not an expert in these types of situations so...Ya know, I'm not exactly the best guy to come to for this. Shit usually goes south for me, and I'm getting the fuck out of there, but we can't do that this time...Shit can't go that way. Not again..."

Markus' reaction to the mention of gaydar made Luc laugh, breaking up the last of the tension that lingered. He just shrugged as Markus explained. "Dude, that's totally fine. You do you, and that's what matters, 'kay?" He said with a smile. He didn't believe in judging anyone for what they did or didn't do. God knows, that would be pretty hypocritical of him. There were much, much better things you could choose to judge somebody about than what they did or didn't do with their own damn body.

He nodded as they began discussing the plan again. "Formal event, so we can be masked up and undercover. I'm thinking we also keep our real names off the list and come up with decent alibis for ourselves, and spread them around in advance. Get your friends to cover for you. There's no way in hell you could be at that event because you were... at your best friend's sister's boyfriend's cousin's wedding. Ideally something a little more believable than that, but you know what I mean."

He nodded again as Markus mentioned an escape route. He pulled up a map of the venue. "Okay so, we've gotten the ballroom and these few rooms booked off for storage. I've inquired about rooms for our little private VIP reception and the ones we were offered were... here, here, and here. So looking at them, I think this one might be the easiest to escape out of because we've got a service passageway here that we can probably escape out of, as well as a fire escape here. So we can get out pretty easily, and it's secluded enough that any... disturbances should go unnoticed." He sighed, running his hand through his hair. "If... if something does go south, if anything happens to me that it looks like I'm not getting out of, you should continue with your plan of just getting the fuck out of there. This isn't time for heroics. We need to just get out. If anything bad happens to one of us, the other should get the hell out. Don't involve the cops, no matter what. If one of us gets out alive, we might still be able to make a difference."

That was the way the villains always worked. Don't be stupid, don't get yourself killed, as long as you yourself made it out, that was all that mattered. Get the job done.

Markus gave a small shrug to Lucian's comment, he didn't feel judged or anything. He just felt the random need to, explain himself? He didn't know what to say really, so he left it there. Part of him was tempted to ask Lucian, but, if the rumors were anything to go off of, he already knew his answer. No point in asking. He nodded as Lucian confirmed that it was going to be a formal event, so they'd be fine there. Once he mentioned having to have his friends cover for him, Markus found himself pausing for a moment. "That's not an issue.." he said softly. Sitting back on the couch, "I'm not exactly uh...'People orientated'?" he said with air quotes, not that it was needed. A small sigh escaping his lips. "Aside from my boss, and some of the people I work with, I don't really have many uh...friends, per say...Just one, Erin but uh..she's...Something." he added with a small shrug of his shoulders. Only one person he was really friends with, was another hero, and he hadn't seen her in almost a year. He doubted she was even alive still. She had a bad habit of doing stupid shit and getting herself into trouble. Hell, she was more of an anti-hero as of late, with her antics and tendency of causing a bit more trouble than was needed. Then again, what do you expect from someone that is a complete and utter dumbass when out of the suit, and tends to let it leak into their job as a hero? He shook himself out of his thoughts as he noticed Lucian bring up a map of the place they'd be using as the facade of a party. Perfect.

He sat up in the couch once more and clasped his hands as his eyes scanned the screen infront of him, just barely catching the tail end of what Lucian said. His eyebrows knitted together at the rest of his comment, "As if." he said with a short scoff. Sitting back in the couch before he stood up, making his way to the kitchen for another drink, "As much of a pain in the ass as you can be, cuz trust me, you are." he started, as he poured another drink. "I'm not leaving you back there. We get into trouble, I'll have your back, just like all the other times. I won't be able to do this on my own, if we plan on doing this right. Simple as that." he said with a serious tone, his eyes darting around the small apartment for a moment.

"I know you work differently than I do...By a different code but...I'm not like the others you've worked with. Call it stupid, reckless, cliche hero shit, whatever the fuck you want. We're in this together whether you like it or not, Lucian." he sighed, before quickly finishing off the next drink he poured for himself. "So just...Get used to it, alright? We're far too involved now, I won't leave you there if shit goes sideways...Not losing someone else like that..."

Lucian frowned a little as Markus mentioned not having any friends to cover for him. "Well, then, get that Erin to cover for you. Just so you have a potential alibi in case you need one. You don't have to tell her what you're up to. Just... come up with something."

He was caught off guard by Markus' refusal to just leave if things went wrong. He managed a smile and a small chuckle at being called a pain in the ass. Really, he felt like he hadn't even really brought all that much to things. He'd figured stuff out and he'd saved Markus once, sure, but Markus probably wouldn't have ended up in that situation if it hadn't been for Lucian throwing a tantrum because he wanted to prioritize getting off his face and making stupid decisions.

He ran a hand through his hair, trying to process how exactly he was supposed to respond to the whole situation. His whole life, the only person he'd ever had who had his back was himself. He hadn't been able to reply on anyone, because everyone had just left him. Everyone had abandoned him. And one thing he'd about the villains was that everyone understood it. Everyone else was also depending on themselves and nobody else. There was no expectation to have someone else's back, as long as you also understood that they wouldn't have your back.

So now, having someone who had his back, no matter what, and who had been proving all along that he meant it... he had no idea how to react. There was a part of him that just wanted to shut down and refuse the help and push him away. He didn't want someone else to leave. He didn't want to lose someone else. But there was a part of him that just wanted to believe Markus and trust him and for once in his life, not to have to do things by himself. To have someone else there for him.

"That's probably a stupid decision, hero boy. But... thank you." He cleared his throat and got to his feet. "Anyway. That's enough business talk for tonight. I say we have a few more of these drinks and just relax, we've had a rough few days," he said, topping up his own glass.

Markus bit his lip as Lucian said to just Erin to cover for him, realizing he had left out one crucial detail. A soft sigh escaped his lips as he combed his hand through his hair for a moment before he turned to look at Lucian, "Well, I would...But ya see...I haven't talk to her in like...a year?" he started, before taking a sip of his drink. "Even then uh...I don't even know if she's even still alive." he said a bit too calmly as he took his drink and walked back into the living room. Listening as Lucian continued.

He sat down on the couch, legs crossed comfortably. Glancing up at Lucian before he looked down, fidgeting with his hands that he kept in his lap for a moment. "Is it a stupid decision? Probably. But I've made far worse, trust me." he said dryly. Taking another sip of his drink, as he nodded in agreement with Lucian's suggestion of taking it easy for the rest of the night. When he actually thought on it, they had been through utter hell these past few weeks, nevermind these past few days. Hell, barely two months ago, neither of them truly acknowledged either's existence. They were simply that knew of each other, but that was it. But now? Things had changed.

Without Lucian, Markus didn't know what he would have done. He could have marched right in there like they both did, but by himself and gotten himself killed. Hell, they almost did both die. But in the end they managed to make it out alive. Which, Markus doubted he would have if he went alone. And as much as he didn't like to admit it, they made a good time, however unlikely it was. However he didn't want to admit that him and a villain made for a good duo, here they were. But now, working together and proving that they could actually work together and do something. Markus had some slight doubts if this would really come to a hopeful end all things considered but, all he could do now was to hope to make it another day. Then they could figure things out in better detail. One day at a time, it's all he could focus on.
