Introduction
In 2192, society has evolved. Some say for the better.
But most say for the worse.
Fifty years ago, love was classified as a crime. A crime thatβs punishment is a lifetime in prison, or worse- death.
Though there is a reason for everything.
This was the aftermath of several wars- seemingly easy problems that escalated into bloodshed, murder, and eventually, civil wars.
Abortion, homosexuality, polygamy. The books say that the uprisings started in the south; beginning with just a few groups rallying together for the sake of their beliefs. The groups spread to the rest of the country, become more violent and eye-opening.
The government was forced to act. Many long-lasting and heated debates took place. Some thought the politicians would never come to an agreement until an βupriserβ murdered a prominent government official, one who was openly gay.
Then came the wars.
The wars ripped apart the United States, extinguishing lives, tearing sections of our country into shreds. The population was sliced in half. It lasted sixteen terrible years.
Until the government made a decision. A single, dreadful decision. The officials hypothesized the core of these problems was love. Their, no, our single issue...was love.
So, it was outlawed. Rewritten as a terrible blight on humanity. Paranoid, the government took several precautionary actions. The hiding of faces, issuing masks to the public and enforcing several laws as to keeping them on. Sex became as illegal as love, infants being developed in labs instead of naturally. When a woman did become pregnant, though
she and the father would be imprisoned, the baby would be delivered as normal, with the father and mother being sentenced to death. The resulting child would never be told it was born naturally. Children were raised in houses run by the state- living in these houses until age five, before being sent to three sets of boarding schools: elementary, middle, then high school. If the child is considered smart enough, they will be admitted into college.
Society soon adjusted to these laws, dubbing the actions of sex and showing oneβs face βtabooβ or βdisgusting.β It was accepted that children were developed scientifically, some even saw it as an improvement- the population was under control, genetic issues were avoided, and humanity was overall improved. Scientists began issuing special βabilitiesβ into children about ten years after the wars, along with tracking chips a year after.
Things have settled down in the last fifty years- society fully accepting the violent changes and conforming to the governments rules, the final rebellions stopping long ago.
But when ten teenagers rediscover the thing forbidden in their country, will they choose to fight against themselves, or the harsh ways of their government?

The Story So Far... Write a Post » as written by 7 authors
She groaned lightly in her sleep, rolling over onto her side, putting her much closer to the edge of her twin mattress. She stretched, coming precariously close to toppling from the bed and onto the hard, unforgiving wooden floorboards below her. She loss of balance made her jolt awake, the unwelcome adrenaline rush frightening her more than she would like to admit.
She sat up quickly, disoriented by the sudden wake-up-call. Her eyes flashed to the clock beside her, and she hissed through her teeth, cursing her own stupidity. Hope you enjoyed your twelve-or-so hours of sleep, L, she grumbled inwardly, standing up and stretching.
((OOC: Spoon is slang for Lacrosse Stick, sorry I sometimes forget that not everyone knows about the sport))
Ever.
She hadn't spoken since before she could remember. She knew how to talk, obviously, but she was frightened of the outcomes. But enough about that, she had to get to class. Although she never contributed in class (when forced, she simply held up her notepad, much to the spite of her teachers and mirth of her fellow students), she still enjoyed school to an extent. Her next class was a fairly easy course - Language Arts. Feeling a bit bored, she made her way to the class room and sat down in the back. To use up some of the extra time, she read a few pages of her current book. It was a particularly amazing recount of great adventure - though of course leaving out any mention of the "L" word (that is, love). She didn't bother looking up as her classmates slowly filled into the seats around her.
"Awesome! I can't wait to put it together!" Jackson said with a smile, he liked the head chef. He was a good man, a better cook, and an instant friend. Jackson had come looking for work when he'd flunked out of the police Academy. The head chef instantly put him on the floor and he's been working there ever since, moving up the positions to Saucier, and trying to save up the cash to have a place of his own some day. With that, the two shook hands and Jackson got to work, the friends parting with smiles. Jackson finished inventory, and brought all his supplies, which included all the spices, oils, and vegetables necessary for the sauce. Jackson set the burner very low and started with oil. You always cooked a little just for yourself to make sure it tasted good, couldn't have you serving the customers crap. He brought the oil up to temperature, throwing in some arugula and tomatoes. He let them simmer for almost an hour, letting all of the flavor drain out of them before he skimmed the sauce for the large, lobed arugula leaves. After that, Jackson spiced it. He hit it with the standard oregano, parsley, garlic, and thyme and all the other boring things that go into a tomato sauce, but he also snuck in the smallest amount of cayenne pepper. Tasting it, he found his intuition to be correct, it was deliciously spicy, but not too hot. Finally, Jackson set about producing the sauce in volume. He kept the same pan, but quadrupled the amount of ingredients, and finally, the saucepan was full of a spicy delicious sauce that would go excellent with the meat and pasta. It had been a few hours, but it was dinner time. Jackson called over to the Grill asking about the meat. Sure enough, the first set had gone through and it was time to eat. Of course, that wasn't all there was to eat, the place had all your standard fare, local favorites and all that. The special changed from day to day, as it always did, and luckily, Jackson had been honored with its preparation.
Chefs, unlike the people who eat at the restaurant have to eat well before the rush so they're not hungry during prime time. Sure enough, The plates all went around and everyone was impressed. It was delicious. "Fantastic job Jackson! Keep this up and I'll think you're gunning for my job!" The head chef exclaimed, bursting into laughter, and the whole kitchen following suite. Jackson laughed too, he knew it was lighthearted. "You flatter me!" Jackson said, "I'm not good enough for that kind of responsibility yet, however, by the time I save up enough, maybe you'll have pounded some skill into my thick head, eh?" Jackson said, referencing the head chef's own words when Jackson had told him his dream. "Aye lad! That I will! Now go on and fetch your apron, you're calling tonight, and I need you on wait staff, poor Reinholdt got sick. Anyhow, I'll have a swing keep an eye on your sauce and we'll play it by ear, don't hold back on the accelerare if it's getting hectic out there." Jackson nodded. Caller was a huge responsibility. It meant he'd take orders as well as put them in at specific times so a table's meals would all get to the table at the same time. Jackson felt proud that the head chef had enough respect for him to make him caller tonight. It was an honor. Jackson went into the back, got dressed in waiter's black and put on his apron, filling one pocket with pencils, another with silverware, and placing a notepad in the last pocket. Dinner rush was starting in an few hours, Jackson felt the excitement starting to get to him. He'd made an excellent sauce and he was calling tonight. Jackson was off to a great start.
He sighs when his alarm clock rings and picks it up, turning it off and slowly standing up.
Great, He thought, heading to the bathroom another normal day, in my normal life with my normal family.
He almost laughs at that thought, "Yeah, normal, that's the right word." He mutters to himself, stepping into the shower.
Jack quickly washed and gets dressed, walking downstairs.
"Good morning Marion." He says to his foster mother, standing by the breakfast counter.
She replies with a curt nod and he stifles a sigh, his foster mother hates him and he hates her, it's the way it's always been.
"I'm going to school now." He tells her for no reason, it's not like she cares, he slips into the hall and grabs his bag. Shutting the heavy oak door behind him.
Jack swiftly walked to school and he was lucky he was only a block away because he was already late.
Running into class he sits down heavily in his seat and puts his bag on the floor, trying not to be noticed.
As she held a single green apple in her hand she contemplated eating it, having been given to her from her "Mother" which she doesn't particularly like nor dislike. The mask she wore on her face had been causing problems recently, becoming un-comfy and slightly digging into her face after a prolonged wear. She wanted to take it off and have it over with, she wanted all these horrible laws to be discarded and be allowed to feel love again and not have to wear masks in public by law. She dared not speak to anyone about it in fear of being found to actually feel this way and get locked up because of it but she thought about it when she was alone, it was practically the biggest problem in her life and also everyone else's lives. Just getting rid of love and acting like it will solve everything is ignorant, it may work in lowering crime rates and much more but there is so many other ways to do it Amber felt, the government seemed annoying in the way they think it will solve everything. If anything it will start more problems.
Managing to finally decide on eating the apple which due to her ability she could smell really strongly already, speaking of that she could also smell everybody else's food in the canteen as well. Blocking out most sound waves she lifted her mask slightly and started eating, the fruity taste of the apple intensified in her mouth. As she was enjoying herself she started to relax a bit more and so she lifted her mask higher, revealing a large portion of her face. With her heightened eyesight she caught a glimpse of someone on a far table scowling at her through their face mask. Noticing and noting this faster than average she felt the awkwardness come back and soon pulled the mask down over her face once again, she felt that she had spent enough time sat, like a loner, awkwardly thinking to herself about the current problems with the government and decided to head for her next class; calculus.
Standing up and dropping the last half of her apple in the bin she walked with her eyes on the floor, still managing however to evade the canteens various tables and chairs without any effort on her part. As she passed a table of a group of what looked like close friends, she felt eyes land on her as she grabbed for the handle and almost jumped for freedom on the campus. The main building was not too far away and Amber was keeping to the path as to not mud-up her trainers, not like they mattered much. She was wearing pretty much the average today, nothing to catch too much attention. Amber dodged as much attention as she could usually on a down day like this because she was pretty much a bad speaker with her being all awkward, but maybe she will get seated next to somebody that is just as awkward then they have a good chance of being buddies. The reason today was not a good day was mainly because of looks she has been getting off people, actually more of the looks Amber thinks she has been getting today. As she neared the main building she walked past a smallish student who was just as out of it, before Amber passed him he gave a smile, out of politeness. Making her feel slightly better she smiled back and walked up and into the main building.
As she pushed open the door to the class she felt the temperature hit her before she walked in, knowing she was just practically on time she walked in and looked around for an empty seat. All the ones at the back were unfortunately taken so she had the choice of the two she saw available from where she was standing. One next to a pretty nice guy Amber knew as Dan, her recognizing him due to his noticeable clothes or next to someone she had never seen before. She was pretty good with faces so they must have been new, not thinking about it for too long before deciding she lifted her messenger bag strap back onto her shoulder and walked to the free seat next to Dan, letting her voice be heard for the first time in quite a while she greeted him quietly. "Hey Danno." Her voice was soft and naturally pretty quiet so her trying to make it even quieter was illogical, rather unneeded. Sitting down next to him she took out her book and a pen, a pretty average pen but if one was to take any notice they would see that the logo, which happened to be the logo for the government that banned love; was scratched off, violently at that. As the class started she started taking notes slowly along with the other people in the class who wanted to learn. There were others who just slouched and fell asleep, their choices were their choices, if they wanted to sleep nobody could say they couldn't. Unless a bunch of cowards hiding behind masks and bodyguards decided to pass yet another set of laws around because they could.
She slid her mask on just as the teacher walked in, Cass heard her thoughts as she approached the desk at the front of the room. As usual she was thinking somewhat offensive thoughts about the students she was charged with. The poor woman was never happy to be here and often thought of her own bitter existence, the brat kid she was forced to deal with day in and day out, and the brat kids she dealt with here. Cassi's only offence was her ability, but it stuck her with these fools, and unfortunately for her, most were dumb as a door nail.
With a sigh she kicked up her feet to one of the bars that divided the rows of chairs and twirled one of her rings as she waited for the teachers assistant for the class she was supposed to be attending to arrive. More or less it was just another student from the class coming to tell her what she was supposed to do for the day. After lunch she had Language Arts, nothing to difficult, but then again she didn't care enough to do the work half the time, and even when she did, she had little knowledge of the subject to make anyone think anything of her.
"Ya' wanna get a bite to eat after class? I know this great place. My buddy Jackson is a chef over there, well kinda, anyway the foods great and the price is better. Plus I don't know about you, but I don't feel like going to my next class, I hate Chemistry"
Amber sat, quiet, with an almost confused face as she tried to come up with the right answer. "I... maybe, well, I'm not a big class skipper." It was awkward situations like this that Amber loved to avoid, was this question more than what it seemed or is there nothing to it? Her head filled with thoughts of the risks of skipping just one class, but then with thoughts of getting to know Danny better, maybe have some fun and forget about her mostly bad day. Deciding she whispered quietly again, "Okay, it sounds alright, I'll go." As she stopped talking the teacher stopped talking and gave her and Danny a glare, Amber immediately picking her scratched pen back up and trying to catch up with anything important she missed, if anything.
She hesitated before confirming that she would go. It was hard to see through his mask but Danny's face lit up with a huge smile. "Awesome, I'd say I'd drive but it's so close we should probably just walk" he says. If we walk, there will more time to talk with her. He thinks happily. Just then the teacher stops in the middle of her lecture and glares at Danny and Amber. Amber snapped back to her notes, Danny however smiled a sly grin "Can I help you with something teach?" He asks cockily "You're pushing your luck today Daniel." She says as she turns around a rights a problem on the board, "Come solve this, if you were paying attention you should be able to do it" she challenges him hoping he will fail. Danny is nervous for a second then glances at Amber's notes, he smiles, walks up to the board noticing that the problem she wrote was one that she solved as an example earlier in class, he was easily able to solve it. When he finishes he sets the chalk down "BAM! No prob teach." he says walking back to his seat, smiling at Amber. He sits down and begins drawing again, he's a terrible artist but he doesn't care, it's better then taking notes. The rest of class passes without further incident. As class ends Danny slowly packs up his things waiting for Amber.
As the teacher challenged him to solve the sum Amber knew he probably wouldn't know because he had been doodling for most of the class and so moved her notes to more of a readable angle slowly. As he took a quick gander she smiled and he stood up to complete the sum and sit back down with pretty much a victorious attitude, or what Amber guessed was a victorious attitude.
Class went pretty quickly after that, there was not many other disturbances from anyone and Amber was starting to get more relaxed finally, thoughts of what the restaurant was going to be like filled her head. Even more thoughts filled her head on how her and Danny was getting along, he seemed nice, not like almost every single other douche that Amber pretty much avoided on a regular basis. She couldn't wait to get to know him better, the only problem being if she went too far? The government wasn't afraid to imprison people who rediscovered love.
As class ended she put her notepad in her bag and picked up her book and pen, placing all of these in her bag as well. As she finished everyone started walking out and she found Dan waiting for her by the door. Walking up she smiled through her mask, probably unseen and asked. "Okay so, where is this restaurant?" Her voice upbeat and somehow more confident sounding than it was at the start of the lesson.
"Oh not far, just a few blocks from campus, honestly I'm surprised more students don't go there." He said walking out of the classroom. The two of them walk for a short while without talking, just enjoying each other's company. Instead of walking on the sidewalk Danny chooses to glide across the grass. He pulls out his phone sending a quick text message to Jackson saying "Hey bud, I'm on my way over to get some grub cause I don't feel like going to class" He realized he might have been ignoring Amber so he looks to her "Sorry I was just letting Jackson know we were coming so he could have a table ready for us." Dan was happy to be spending time with her, "So what kind of music do you listen to?" He asks hoping to learn more about her.
As they walked outside Dan chose to walk next to Amber except on the grass. She chose the pavement, for no reason other than to not walk on the grass. Dan had his phone out and was texting, for a minute or two it was quiet until Dan put his phone away and apologized, explaining what the text was for. Amber smiled at him from under her mask, she wouldn't really have a problem anyway. "So what kind of music do you listen to?" Dan asked unexpectedly, Amber thought for a second before answering. "I don't really have a lock-on genre, I'm happy if any music is playing in my ears to be honest." She paused as if she had finished her sentence, but then spoke again as she added one more thing on. "Oh- except dubstep, that is just all over the place. What's yours?" She asked politely. Amber was still thinking about the risks throughout the walk, until she focused on having a good time instead of a lesson. Which wasn't too hard for Amber to do.
The two were good friends, even though Jackson was two years older than Danny. They shared a common interest in music and games, and Jackson comped Danny's meals whenever he could. Kids in school never had much cash, why waste it on something a friend would give you for free? Besides, Jackson made plenty of money as it was, being a sautΓ© made you decent cash, and when you were a friend of the head chΓ©f and did more work than you needed to, often taking over the jobs of the lazy sous chΓ©f, your portion of the "tips" was strangely larger than it should have been. Regardless, his apartment was all paid off and full of furniture. All that was left for Jackson now was to finish saving up for a place of his own. After that, the sky was the limit. Jackson himself didn't know what he would do once he got a place of his own. Obviously he'd cook, he loved to cook, but there was nothing else he really... needed. It was strange. What were you supposed to do with your life after you made a name for yourself?
Jackson's smile persisted until he heard the door open and Danny, and a blue haired girl, walked into the restaurant, snapping him out of his daydream. He saw a waitress try to take them to a table and he wasn't having any of that. He got up off of his chair and walked quickly over to the front. He was about half way there when he caught Danny's eye, who yelled and waved over to him. "Hey Jackson, what's up buddy? How you been!" Jackson smiled wider, if that was even possible, and walked up to Danny to shake his hand and reply, "Hey! Danny! I'm doing great! Lucky for you, you just missed the lunch rush so I've got all the time in the world to take care of you and your friend. Right this way!" Jackson said jovially, grabbing a pair of menus and taking the two to a table next to a window, but near the kitchen. The window had a lovely view of a local park, and being next to the kitchen was always a treat when the head chΓ©f was cooking. The man's skills were legendary. Jackson sat them down and placed the menus on the table along with their silverware. "Alrighty there guys, as I'm sure you heard my good friend Dan say, my name's Jackson and I'll be taking care of you today. Can I start you off with some drinks? Water? Anything at all, you just say the word." Here Jackson leaned in and whispered to the pair, "It's on me so order up!" He finished telling them his little secret with a wink.
Quickly yanking on the rest of her clothes and grasping her shoes, she walked out the door. She pulled on her mismatched shoes as she hopped down the corridor. Heading of the building, she shivered slightly, a result of her wet hair and shoulders. She had heard her classmates talk about a restaurant close to campus, and figured she would check it out.
After five or so minutes of walking, Elle found it, and she entered. Warmth rolled over her as she did so, and she sighed in relief. Out of the corner of her eye, she spotted two of her classmates seated at a table together, the male chatting to the waiter. She caught the word "party", and she perked up a bit- it had been awhile since she had experienced anything social, but she quickly shook off the idea. They barely know you, she chided herself, and shoved her hands into her pockets, waiting to be seated.
Amber stated fiddling with a napkin she had managed to grab off the table as Dan asked Jackson about a party, while he was she noticed a girl from several of her classes enter the restaurant. She tried to remember her name for a second then gave up as Danny turned to her. "Jackson and I were gonna have a get together at his place tomorrow, a chance for some of us kids to get away from school and the world for a while, you interested?" Amber dropped the napkin she was messing around with and looked at him. Inside she was figuring out the answer and outside she looked just the same.
"I think... um..." She stopped talking to think for a second, while picking the napkin back up to tear in several places. Just say yes, just say it. "I'd love to go with you Dan." She realized what she said only a second after she said it. "I mean I'd love to go, not only with you but with the other people going there as well." She stopped, defeated by herself. Were they her feelings? They couldn't be, she had only started to really get to know Dan today. This was dangerous, too dangerous. Maybe this party was a bad idea, but then Amber thought most things were a bad idea if they involved other people. She relaxed, and let her thoughts stay as thoughts, not turn into actions.
Jackson strolled back calmly and placed the drinks on the table. "Coke for the lady, and something to go with the special for Danny. Like always, I can only get you two of those and after that it's only water or soda. You gotta be ok to get home, alright?" Jackson said, making sure Danny understood that there was no way Jackson was losing his job for Danny. He could get him one or two, but that was it. "If you guys would like a little more time you just go right ahead and take it, we've got all the time in the world, or if you're ready I'll take your orders now." Jackson said reassuringly. No one needed to feel rushed, food was best when you were good and hungry, and weren't trying to rush through it to get moving somewhere else. After waiting for their response, Jackson walked over to the front to seat the customer who'd just come in. His co-worker tried to tell him he'd been working all day and could take a break, Jackson waved him off. "It's just two tables, it's not a big deal. Besides, you've been working just as long and just as hard. Your turn first. Ok?" Jackson told his associate, who smiled and thanked Jackson, walking to the break room to relax. "Hi!" Jackson said with a smile. "Just you today?" Jackson asked, trying not to do a double take. The girl before him was very pretty. Jackson felt himself blush a little, then tried to snap himself out of it. Thoughts like those would get him into trouble.
She ignored the happenings outside for the moment to speak to Dan, he reached over and took the torn up pieces of napkin and performed the magic trick, Amber laughed quietly as he pulled the second napkin from behind her ear. "Try not to tear it up again-" He chuckled and finished his sentence. "-So, I would say we're pretty good friends, but you're not one to skip class, why did ya come with me?" Amber took a sip of her drink as she tried to think of another reason why she came out with Dan.
"Well... the restaurant sounded nice and I guess class was just boring today." She blushed slightly but tried to hide the main reason, they were both stepping on dangerous ground here with feelings of love being outlawed. "I just wanted a change of scenery, besides I don't really like French." She thought for a second before coming up with a question similar. "We are okay friends but we don't speak a lot, why the sudden invites to this restaurant and the party that is happening tomorrow?" She smiled and picked up the new napkin, began fiddling with it and remembered what happened with the last one. As she put it down the patrol car outside pulled off and drove away, Amber watched it for a second then turned back to Danny.
"Je peux parler français, mais pas avec brio." Amber paused for a second to think back and make sure she pronounced the sentence right, then continued. "And about the lacrosse game, I don't know. I'd love to come and cheer you on but..." She paused again to try and think of a reason other than 'I don't want to get too attached to you'. She had already come to like Dan, she didn't want to go any further, not because of him but the threat of death. "... We'll see, if I'm not doing anything then sure." She didn't want to all of a sudden seem cold though. She liked Dan, that much she knew, but how much she still didn't know. At the time she was certain she didn't want to get into a relationship, it was that or almost certain death. "Good luck if I'm not there though."

Re: Outlawed
I have a thing, not a question but a question at the same time, whatever. I think it is safe to assume we only have four at least active users still in this RP due to the times of the last time they posted. Lax, Shishio, Avid and myself. Please point me out if I'm wrong.
Maybe I'm just paranoid because I don't want this to die, that might be a good thing though.

I hope y'all are having lots of fun and are as excited as I am. Or else I'm just nerding out and I can stop. X3

My school life has kind of been...disastrous, so I've only been able to check up on my RPs, not type anything. I love how the story is going so far, though.
I just posted- met up with everybody at the restaurant. Sort of.
