The Fairytale Resistance

The Fairytale Resistance

0 INK

The land of fairy stories is not as happy and magical as you would think. Oppressed for years by a tyrannical Queen, fairytale characters rise up to try and reclaim their happy endings...but a wolf is on the prowl...a bad one.

3,630 readers have visited The Fairytale Resistance since VitaminHeart created it.

Introduction

The land of Tale lies far beyond our own world. It runs parrallel to our world...though occasional people, people with a psychic connection, gain visions of Tale once in a while. A few of them, like the Brothers Grimm, wrote down stories based around the visions they saw of the alternate world beyond...and those stories became what we know as fairy stories.

They talk of magic, romance....and sometimes grim scenarios of child-eating witches and wicked imps. All the subjects of the stories existed, but the images only gave glimpses into thier lives....and the reality of life in the world of Tale was rather worse than anoy of the stories made out.

It was claimed, at one point, that life had been very much like the stories, like something Disney might have conjured up. Quaint little villages of happy peasants and jolly, philanthropic lords with dashing sons and beautiful flaxen haired daughters.

The woodlands were full of singing trees and talking animals. Pigs and bears made thier way into towns to buy building supplies and porridge oats and were greeted warmly by the populous.

Princesses sung in their towers awaiting some handsome stranger to undertake a quest for them, and people were happy.

That was, until the King died. Poisoned so they say. He was found face down at his table with a shiny red apple sat beside him, one bite missing. As his daughter, a young woman by the name of Snow White, had recently encountered an 'unfortunate accident' whole walking out in the woods, and his son Charming was oddly unwilling to take up the throne, it passed onto his wife, the recently married Queen. She was a frightening woman, with a frightening aura and a sinister sort of beauty...it was power that she valued the most.

She was an unpopular ruler, so quickly began to gather allies to keep her rule by force and fear.

She hired The Witch from the woods, promising her a fresh supply of children in exchange for her spells and magical knowledge.

She brought the trolls out from under the bridges and trained them as her elite guard. Strong and vicious, they soons became something to fear.

The one of her henchmen that spread the most fear, the greatest terror across the land of Tale was the one they called The Big, Bad Wolf. He was swift, and cunning. He could turn his exhaled breath into terrible winds that could houses apart. He could consume people whole...and he was a master of disguise. By stealing the clothes of those he'd eaten, he could imitate them extremely well.

Soon, Tale was no longer a happy place. The talking animals were sat pleading and whining in cages in town centres, being sold off to the aristocracy as exotic pets. The songs of the magical trees turned to pained howling as they were cut down and carved into enhanted furniture. Princesses had starved to death in thier towers. Two of the pigs had been eaten., and Mommy Bear and Daddy Bear had been turned into a bearskin rug and a taxidermy display.

The place was miserable, and ruled by an iron fist under the banner of the red apple.

However, in an old tower out in the woods, and odd assortment of fairytale characters were meeting regularly, planning in hushed tones how to overthrow the regime and bring things back to how they once were.

They were the Fairytale Rebellion, contianing some of the most wanted in the land....and they were playing a dangerous game. The Wolf was on thier scent, and he was keen to crunch all of them in his jaws.

At the same time, Gretel grew very quiet at the mention of the Witch. By then, she had returned to sit at position, ready to listen intently to Red, however the mention of the terrifying being... Gretel felt herself go cold. She tried to keep past memories from surfacing.

Beneath her own fear, the young girl vaguely wondered who 'Him' could be. She concluded that it must have been the wolf the woman with the long braid had mentioned, and felt a new terror of the unknown creep into her heart. 'Stop that. I'm stronger now,' she thought to herself as she realized that her expression had darkened greatly.

Quickly clearing her head of pointless thoughts, Gretel got her green eyes bright again before piping, "Well they probably won't be, right? Besides that, if we capture Goldie Lox alive, what'll we do with her? We can't keep her in the tower, can we?"

Lykos's smile fell at the mention of his curse. How did the witch know?
He ran his tounge over his teeth as he thought. She was a witch, she problebly knew all about curses, but no witch before had known.
"Well damn." he said outloud. "I guess there's no harm in it." but then again...
"unless your making a VooDoo Doll, or some kind of curse even worse than the one have I now." he caught a wiff of the Witch's last meal and smiled.
His shape warped once more.

Maud felt the corners of her lips turn down into a frown as the wolf warped himself into another form. This time he chose the form of a child; blue eyes looked up at her unnatural teeth grinning. She shifted her eyes to the spot above his head.
“I have no interest in playing games wolf.” She said her tone slightly sharp. “The curse will in no way effect you, it a protection for the castle.”
She reached under her long skirt pulling out a small dagger. “Now would you rather do it yourself or have me do it.” She asked.

The Wolf smirked. "Temper Temper, Mrs Maud. Where is the fun in life without games?"
Lykos held out his small wrist to the Witch.
"Here you go. I won't start crying, don't worry."

Maud felt annoyance rise out of her usually calm demeanor ,thickening the already tense atmosphere around her. The wolf had always annoyed her , he was a bothersome thing.
"Cry if you wish wolf it won't bother me in the slightest" Maud said as she reached out making a quick cut on his hand dripping the red liquid into the small flask, She held it up looking at it "This will do." She said. She placed it back in her cloak. She pulled away from the wolf.

As Maud walked away, the Wolf stuck his toungue out. That woman clearly had no sense of humor.
Lykos walked around the castle, waiting ofr someone to talk to him. No one dose, so he goes back to the group and smiles at Karen.
"So what are the shoes doing latley?"

Rapunzel answered Gretel's question, though she didn't meet the young girl's eyes. "There are... many rooms in the tower. There is more than enough room for one such as her," she murmured just loud enough to be heard.

Gretel didn't seem quite satisfied, but sighed and let it go. The keeper of the tower didn't seem quite right in the head with the way she mumbled everything to herself. "So, when do we start packing?" Gretel asked. "Tomorrow morning isn't that far off," she added, glancing at the sun skimming the edge of the forest out the window.

Karen had been waiting patiently when Lycos suddenly returned.
So what are the shoes doing lately?
At the sound of those words, her gaze turned to him.
"Dancing." She replied softly, her dark green eyes glazed over with the tormenting madness as she spoke. "Always dancing, never stopping. I thought they should be tired... don't you think they should be tired? They dance so much without a single second of rest but surely they must hurt... those red shoes must surely feel pain..."
Karen was going on slightly, forgetting slightly that she was talking to Lycos at all. As the thoughts of the shoes filled her head, she began to get lost in her own insanity. No one could ever understand what it was like to be haunted by those shoes, still with her amputated feet encased in their red folds. To hear them dance throughout every day and night... to feel them tapping away... no one understood.
But they soon would.
Tap tap tap t-tap.
"Maybe that's how they became so red... they danced so much that they bled..."
Almost as soon as blood came into her mind, her focus returned to Lycos.
"You're bleeding." She commented, the scent of his blood hitting her now.
All those hours in the torture chamber had made her sensitive to that smell.

Goldie soon headed for the exit form the casstle, her job complete, and keen to get away from the place. She was never terribly impressed with the state of the palace, and was keen to get back to Index. She'd been allowed to call the shots in the town for the most part, and had it running perfectly as far as she was concerned. She stepped outside, approaching her carriage. It was pulled by some rather depressed looking unicorns, that soon began to move once she'd got inside. That was one advantage of talking livestock...they were pretty good at remembering routes.

"We need disguises for those posing as traders." Red stated.
"Preferably people who can manage to put up a decently beleivable trader persona. Troll guards aren't all that bright, but we need to be careful regardless."
She made her way over to the window, narrowing her eyes.

"Well, Gretel and I may be able to... just one question though... does the Witch ever show up to these things?" Hansel asked, glancing over at Gretel. He tried to pretend all of his concern was about her in this case. Hansel's smile seemed a little more forced than usual. His shift in body language was pretty subtle, but it was still clear he was uncomfortable.

Maud finished adding the werewolf’s blood to the spell. She could already feel it taking effect as it surrounded the castle. “With this the resistance will have a hard time crossing our grounds.” She muttered to herself. She walked over the small table and poured herself another brimming cup of tea. Maybe it was about time she were to get a servant of her own. Someone to torture if she was bored and to all the labour tasks, she currently had to do herself with magic.

May be a talking animal would do, at least until she got into another foul mode. Those annoyances never lasted long with her. Goldilocks was holding trade day soon wasn’t she. While they witch hardly ever attended those things maybe she should this one.

“It might starve off a little boredom and if not I can make it interesting.” A twisted smile fell on to the witches lips.

Re: [OOC] The Fairytale Resistance

Has this roleplay died? I really hope not, I was enjoying this.

Re: [OOC] The Fairytale Resistance

Might be without internet for five days, (AHHHHHH!) so I might go quiet for a while. I will be back though.

Re: [OOC] The Fairytale Resistance

Yeah, we seem to have lost them all of a sudden. =(

That's a pity.

Still yes, we've got Pinoccchio.

Re: [OOC] The Fairytale Resistance

Yay, a Pinocchio! Even if he's still in progress, that's great!

But... did we lose both Queen Grimhilde and Lottie?! They're in the orphanage... ;_;

Re: [OOC] The Fairytale Resistance

Anyone seen Amaranta? Cause I really want to get back into this but I can't until either Lottie responds or someone else talks to Karen.

Re: [OOC] The Fairytale Resistance

Sorry guys ignore this message, I just need to post 10 times in a forum before I can PM! :(

Re: [OOC] The Fairytale Resistance

I'm still here guys. I'm just doing a lot of stuff this weekend and I might post as Puss soon. He's kind of just a hired hand that needs to be hired so, yeah, I'll need a point to introduce him. But yeah, when I get a chance to sit here, I'll look it up.

Re: [OOC] The Fairytale Resistance

I had that at first, but then I refreshed again and Lottie was back. :| XD So I figure they're in the RP but rpgateway just did something funny?

Re: [OOC] The Fairytale Resistance

O.O I think something went weird with the character page for a moment, because I could see other characters like Foolish Lottie and another dragon, but now that I refreshed, they're gone o...o

Did anyone else see this?

Re: [OOC] The Fairytale Resistance

Oh - it started! I didn't get an email, sorry >...<

Re: [OOC] The Fairytale Resistance

lol I had no idea this finally started. I didn't get any email alert. o_o I'll get to reading right away.

Re: [OOC] The Fairytale Resistance

I'm putting Lottie on hold as another RPer might be interested in taking the role of Rumplestiltskin, and thier backgrounds might not match up entrirely, so I'm keeping that on hold until they decide and things get works out. Hope that's alright.

Re: [OOC] The Fairytale Resistance

Went with the girl from Rumpelstiltiskin instead of Rose Red. Hope that's okay. :)

Re: [OOC] The Fairytale Resistance

That's fine, Cinderella is still reserved for you.

Also, regaridngh the dragon role, I received the reservation form Cortezhorse by PM last night after I went to bed, and I compared them, and I think that came in first, so therefore I'm gonna put Gambrill as the dragon. It's tough having two applications for the same role. D:

Re: [OOC] The Fairytale Resistance

I need to recreate cinderella later tonight I know for a fact she will be in by tonight or tomorrow afternoon just as soon as my brother gets off the computer because this laptop does not work it messes up everything =.= so she will be up soon! I hope thats okay

Re: [OOC] The Fairytale Resistance

Dibs on Wicked Queen and Rose Red. :)

Re: [OOC] The Fairytale Resistance

Hi Folks. As it happens we already have a Christian Andersen character in the form of crazy Karen from 'The Red Shoes'.

I'm more or less widening it to include anything considered in the 'classic fairy stories' bracket, as long as the writer can fit them into the world. I decided agaisnt putting Wonderland or Oz stuff in, as the world they're set in is rather considerably different, while the classic stories can, more or less be unified into one.

Like for example the Queen of Wonderland and the Queen of Tale are quite different in how they run things, and the Witch in Tale is rather more cannibalistic and prone to building houses out of confectionry.

I just think it'd be hard to get them to gel well. I might do a twisted Oz RP at some point though...evil Tin Man needs and airing.

Re: [OOC] The Fairytale Resistance

Trust me, I've gone down the path of trying to merge it all. It's horrible. Very, very, horrible. I am very happy with it being where it is. If you want to Rp Alice in Wonderland, then go make an Alice in Wonderland Rp. If you want to do Oz, then do an Oz RP. Merging it all together into one DC/Marvel showdown is a disaster. It just makes the story even bigger than what it really is. This storyline is designed specifically for the cast given and Brother Grimm fairytale selection.

The GM does say on the front page that she'll allow other fairy tale characters, so I think some of your Hans Christian Andersen and the other "fairy tale" stories (Wonderland and Oz are NOT traditional fairytale) will be allowed as long as you PM her and ask.

Re: [OOC] The Fairytale Resistance

Yes, I know of Hans Christian Andersen and that the fairy tales have no real definite origin, but I personally feel that the current setting given and the character roles provided don't seem to merge well with other fairy tales. In the end, it's all the GM's choice really, but I feel that with the evil queen and the wolf as the main antagonists and the current Grimm cast, that including the the Wizard of Oz or Alice in Wonderland, wouldn't feel right...

I'll be dedicated to this RP either way, and like I said, it's really the GM's decision, but that's my opinion on the situation ^^"

Personally, I like the current scenario and cast as it is.

Re: [OOC] The Fairytale Resistance

But there are more Fairy Tale authors other than Grimm. Such as Hans Christian Andersen. Some of the most famous fairy tales do not even have an author to acknowledge since they are so old; they simply are recorded as anonymous or reduced to country. The majority of Fairy Tale books you pick up are not reduced to one author unless it's specialized, they are made up of every walk of life; it's what's make them so magical. Honestly, to me it seems to take away more when it's reduced to one set story style, and allowing people to enjoy their favorite stories is alot more fun.
