She didn't even have the time to mourn. Her parents died while they were in the middle of yet another war; they needed someone to take charge, and right away. She had never been good at taking charge, especially when it came to war. The princess could only get advice from people she trusted knew what they were talking about; people experienced in different areas. But that's only a portion of the problem.
Her parents seemed to know that, if anything happened, she would have trouble keeping everything straight. So she'd need someone to help her lead. Before they died, they sent for a prince, one experienced enough in war he'd be able to help, and they had hoped he would be a suitor for her. She didn't find out until afterwards, so there was nothing she could do about it. But there is another factor that makes this problem much worse.

The last person from royalty to fall for someone that wasn't from the same class was no longer considered alive to any of the rest of her family; the traditions that royalty have to live up to would never allow it. She doesn't want to be forced to leave; she has a younger sister that she doesn't believe is ready for any of this, and that she needs to be there for her. Which leads her to a very hard choice; the thief she likes so much...and leave her sister to deal with things on her own, or the prince she barely even knows...and leave her own happiness behind?
You can be the thief, the prince, any of the friends that the princess consults, or anyone from another kingdom planning to attack. Any other characters are welcome, provided they will go along well enough with the story.
(The thief and prince have been taken; still looking for other people for her to consult.(Though the prince seems to have disappeared, and my need to be replaced, depending o whether or not he comes back.))

Dahlia sighed and nodded her head. "I understand sister, I'll stay in my room longer. We meant no harm though, we honestly didn't! What trouble are you exactly expecting me to get into? All we did was go down to the lake and come right back, I promise sister." She didn't want Lucian to be sent to the bridge, it was so dangerous there.

Jessamine shook her head. "What trouble? I'm only trying to get some bit of responsibility through that head of yours. You were caught eavesdropping, and didn't take the punishment; you snuck off instead. That doesn't show you anything, now, does it?" She glanced at Saldonis. "If you think that would work as a well enough punishment, then I suppose I could allow that." she looked back to the knight. "Well, I suppose that's taken care of; you're to go to help Saldonis at the bridge." It sounded good enough to her, and it was easier than trying to come up with something else. She looked back at Dahlia. "I don't care where you went; you were supposed to be in your room."

Avard sighed stepping forward he sent forth a slash towards Jacob’s Achilles’ Tendon. Followed by a heel aimed at the back of his skull. “I warned you boy… guards take him to the dungeon… it is to risky not to see him as a spy with this defiance and his breaking into the castle…”
Saldonis tapped his fingers together. “Yes the knight may learn something…carnage often removes one’s innocent thoughts of ‘fun’.” He said stepping forward. “This punishment will do well… should you defy the princess again… but… I do not believe you are due punishment… you brought her back after she left… and you ensured her safety… I think you he can be given one err…”

Jacod spun around on his heels, dodging both the slash and the kick. While spinning, he used his shadow-speed and unsheathed his blade, leveling the blade at Avard. He grumbled some, and looked to the guards. He knew there was going to be a fight, a fight that he did not want at the moment, nor did he need it. Jacob shook his head and lifted his hand up to the guards, shaking his finger back and forth to tell them not to attack. His blade at the same level of Avard's throat, but not touching, he did not want to kill anyone at the moment, nor did he want to fight. Jacob stayed silent kept an eye on Avard, he seemed to be the only one that could possibly posed as a threat.

“I suggest you lower your weapon boy…” Jacob would feel as slight pressure against his groin as Avard had the razor tipped sword leveled with it. “Lower it or I stop your bastard blood from ever spreading… and by the time you try to cut my throat I will have you on the ground disarmed and barely conscious… now on your knees or I will kill you…” Avard said awaiting the man’s action.

Jacob stared the Elf down, it had seemed that both warriors were in a stalemate. Jacob looked right into Avard's eyes not showing any sign of fear nor intimitidation. He thought the only two things he could do, attempt to attack and possibly die, or lower his weapon and be taken to the princess. He knew that everyone would have to go before her before taken to the dungeons, it was a policy in all kingdoms. Jacob slowly reached for his whip, unclipping it from his belt, staying wrapped up, he threw it down. He then took the bow/arrows off his back and threw them down with the whip and then he turned quickly throwing his sword into the shadows casted by the wall, knowing that his sword would be safe there, as for only a Shadow can retrieve it from there. "Take me to the princess." Jacob insisted.

Avard lowered his sword. “Very well… try anything and I will slit your throat and gut you like a fall feast turkey…” He motioned the men to collect his weapons. “Walk…” He said harshly leading him where the Princess had ran off to. Wandering around for a while he finally found her. “Mi lady… your guards caught this man trespassing and he wasn’t to keen to obey orders… what is your will princess.”

Jessamine paused, thinking. The knight had brought her back...though he had likely helped her out, too. Before she came to anything definite, though, the prince had come to her, leading someone else. She sighed. Far too many decisions. Perhaps stress had affected some of her decisions. She tried to calm herself before she answered anything. She glanced back at the knight. I can forgive helping my sister to run off...because you did bring her back...but you were still eavesdropping. Perhaps a few menial chores will do for that. Dahlia, you will still stay in your room for a while; I'll come and get you later." She paused, and turned back to the prince and the man he had brought with him. "...Now what we do here..depends on what exactly happened; what reason he came here, why he disobeyed..." She watched him, waiting for some sort of answers.

"I am not a threat. So i ask for you to call off your dog (avard)." Jacob said staying quiet, his shadow scent began to fill the air, revealing what race he was. He didn't say anything after the words he has spoken and just stared at the princess. On the left side of his neck, bared the mark of the Sorens, a highly feared and respected clan of assassins from the Shadow empire. Even though he was the only one that knew he was banished from the empire, but he knew that Saldonis would be the one that could figure out what race he was, and possibly heard the rumors of a Blonde Haired, Blue eyed Shadow that had banished from the Shadow Empire, and has killed off a good bit of a divsion of human warriors that was heading towards Jessamine's kingdom. Jacob kept his history to himself, but seeing how rumors start really easily within these lands, he wouldn't be surprised if Saldonis or anyone else in the kingdom has heard of him.

He thought she would be a good Queen but she was also to soft. He knew she needed a king, but not a one that was picked for her. "Yes, your highness. I will go back to the knight's training camp and return early tomorrow." he said bowing. He turned to the direction of the training camp and walked away. As he walked he thought of how the day went. Disobeying the rules, lying to Tanner and walking off with the princess! He giggled to himself attracting attention to him.

Jessamine glanced back as the knight left the group. She didn't like going so easy on these people, especiallythe knights; if they were supposed to be the fighters, they needed more discipline. He was already looking like one that would need some sense knocked into him. She turned her attention back to the man Avard had brought. "Yes, well, whether or not you mean no harm, I would know why you were trespassing, and why you disobeyed Avard." She had to get the information she needed before she did anything. At least, in her mind.

Jacob shook the guards off of him. He looked at each individual and then Jessamine. He waited for the princess to ask a question. Jacob wasn't sure what she would like to know. The princess was right, he was trespassing, but either way, he meant no harm and if he wanted anyone dead, he knew for a fact that he wouldn't have been noticed, he would have waited for the cover of night before entering, but he didn't he came during day which would say one of two things: 1: he wanted to be killed on site, or 2: he wanted to be captured to be taken to the ruler of the kingdom.

Jessamine sighed. "Well...I suppose first things first. Did you know that you were trespassing?" She paused, deciding what question would come next. "...And then...why did you disobey Avard?" He was supposed to be helping her out, anyway; the fact that he was a prince, even if not from there, should have meant something to him. Jacob shook his head " i do not know where your lands start and stop, I do not get on my knees for no one, not even a god, especially to a man that raised his weapon at me, while my weapons stayed seated. He made the first threat, so i responded." Jacob spoke, the most he's spoken so far. He looked around "for a place to stay, for a little while. a lot of killing is going on outside your borders." Jacob turned his attention back to Jessamine. He still showed no emotions nor fear in his eyes, yet his eyes showed truth in them.

Jessamine watched him carefully. She looked down at the floor to think. She shook her head. "I don't know what to do here. It would have been much simpler if it was only the trespassing...but you refused to listen to Avard...hmm..." She paused, looking back up at him. "I know there's a lot of killing out there...and I suppose a place to stay wouldn't be too hard...though...I'd have to come up with some sort of punishment for not obeying..." It wasn't like she could just let disobedience slide like that; even the knight had extra chores as punishment, even Dahlia. "...Though...if he mode no move to draw his weapon...why did you draw yours, Avard?"

“Why does a mother bear bare its fangs to an intruder… it doesn’t want to chance fate… your parents have died milady… your nation is in a full blown war… I can not tempt fate by approaching a man who may or may not be here to claim your life, or my own unarmed. It matters not if he had no weapon drawn… assassin use wrist crossbows, needles, wrist blades and other concealed weapons… as for trespassing… I would think the walls and armed guards would tell you where you should and shouldn’t be… he purposefully broke into your castle and clearly understood he was trespassing as were in a bloody armed fortress.” Avard said calming down a little as Saldonis gave him a deadly stare due to his temper and proximity to the princess.
“A shadow and a shadow of a knight…” The vampire chuckled. “ Tis almost as humorous as a pup trying to prove himself… and a knight not yet grown in mind as he has in body…” He looked at Avard at the last remark. “So my princess whom has yet to learn the way of war and rule… command me and I shall rain death upon your foes… and rein in your allies… but enough of this… I have been absent from my bridge to long… I shall be their should anyone need an old black blooded knight…” Saldonis vanished as black mist crept in around him and be backed up phasing through a wall.

Jessamine paused, then nodded. "Yes, that does make sense." She glanced back at Jacob. "Then it looks like a lot of...misunderstandings. Though...you should have known you were sneaking over walls, like Avard said...that would be the most obvious sign of where my lands start. Considering it was so obvious, it would make sense to say that it was intentional." Though it hadn't looked like a lie, really. But what other explanation was there? She paused, looking at the floor again, thinking. This was harder than she would have liked. "All you said you wanted was a place to rest a while. Was that all? Is that all that was worth sneaking into my castle, and getting yourself caught?"

Jacob looked directly at Saldonis hearing what he said, and then turned his attention back to Jessamine "you vampiric friend is right, i am a Shadow, from what you know of Shadows, do we ever let ourselves get caught unintentionally, or do you think i allowed myself to get caught?" Jacob said, his voice deathly cold, yet states he's telling the truth. He looked directly into Jessamine's eyes and then ask "so you going to let me go, or are you going to have me thrown into the dungeon where all creatures that you don't trust go?" Jacob shook his head some and looked down "It's a shame..." Jacob said and then stopped himself before he revealed too much information. "Just throw me in the dungeon already."

Jessamine watched him, thinking. She shook her head. "Well...seeing as he only acted to defend himself...and it does make sense, if he is a shadow." She paused, then shook her head again. "He only came here for a place to stay a while. That's not overly hard to arrange. Though I want someone keeping an eye on him at all times, just in case." She was only pleased that she had finally come up with something. She thought for another second. "There's only one other thing I want to ask, though. Why would you allow yourself to be caught? Wouldn't it have been easier for you to sneak around?"

Jacob wasn't shocked to hear Jessamine say that he was able to stay. He looked at her for a moment about her question on why he allowed himself to get caught and then said in a calmer voice "because i knew if i got caught they'd have to bring me to you, and if i snuck around, i'd be considered an assassin and you would have attempted to kill me...." Jacob said, while hiding some information that would be helpful to Jessamine and her kingdom, but as he had always told himself, never get involved in another kingdom's problems. Jacob nodded in respect of Jessamine's wishes to have a guard to be with him everywhere he goes.

Jessamine nodded. "That makes enough sense. Just try to keep yourself out of trouble; that would earn an attempt on your life." Well, that took care of something, at least. She figured she might have to speak with him later; he seemed to know about fighting outside of the castle. Any bit of information of the sort would be useful. Not that she would know what to do with it, but it might help. At least he was calmer now than before. "I'll have to get back to you on a room to stay in; I'm not entirely sure which ones are open, right now."

“As you wish princess… but should he step out of line… I will not hesitate to cut him down…” Avard said calmly. “Do not betray the princess’ trust… or it will be the last thing you ever do.” He turned bowing to Jessamine. “Would you care for a rise through town milady? Jessamine hesitated, but nodded. "If it will show I'm not afraid of the war, then it's probably for the best." Even if she had no idea what she was doing, she thought that sounded like a good idea. And Avard was more experienced in this; he would know. She glanced back at Jacob. "If cutting him down is the only way...well, at least it should prove an efficient enough warning." She moved her attention away from him; that business was taken care of. Now to prepare the ride. "...Even if it is to show I'm not afraid...I'm still going to have guards, aren't I?" She would have rathered a ride by herself, but it was probably necessary.

Jacob nodded some out of respect for the princess. He turned, knowing that he wasn't going to get his weapons back. Jacob began walking around the castle, knowing that there was a guard with him everywhere he went. He found the library and sat down with a book, and began to read. He had nothing else better to do then just to read. In fact that was something he enjoyed doing, was reading. He learned a lot from the type of books he read. Every so often, Jacob looked up from the book to see if the guard has left or not.

Well in truth to explain their negative reactions towards Jacob. Avard is a prince, he expects non-royalty to obey him… well… he is a child at heart… he throws a tantrum… as for Xia she sees you as a probably threat to her liege whom she would give her life before letting harm befall. As for Saldonis… he is just bitter… most people would be if those they defend thought ill of them… though he really hasn’t done anything mean… if he didn’t like you he’d have already attacked.

Okay; just so eneryone knows, I'm thinking about replacing the thief. He hasn't even logged on the site since his last post, and that's a while. He was supposed to be a more important part to the plot than that. Just FYI kinda thing, is all. :P
