Introduction
Introduction
Fugitive terrorist Tahira Ali voluntarily enters the United States, offering information on individuals closely tied to the heart of Hataf, a terrorist organization responsible for scores of attacks against anyone deemed its enemy (including Americans, Israelis, the British, and even Asian Indians) since 1965 through the present day. Since 1968, Ali has been on the FBI's Ten Most Wanted List for her role in Hataf related attacks and foiled plots, as well as seemingly unrelated murders.
Meanwhile, the American Central Intelligence Agency will scramble to unravel this mystery. Why is Ali offering this information? Is any of it valid? And most importantly, they have received intelligence from other sources that Hataf is planning its grandest attack yet, with a nuclear warhead obtained from the former Soviet Union. It is unclear where it came from, but if the information is true, and the CIA believes it is, it is even more imperative to deal a crushing blow to Hataf to end its reign of terror over its enemies.
At the same time, the American FBI will demand jurisdiction in the criminal case pending against Ali, who has not been granted any form of immunity. They see this as an opportunity to make an example of her, to propagate the message that they always get their man, and that no one can escape justice, especially not one of their ten most wanted.
As the date of Hataf's attack draws near - sometime mid-June - tensions will increase, and those involved in this situation will be forced to examine their own motives, to face their pasts, and to unravel the greatest mystery of all - the mystery of self. Those in Hataf who fear they will be named, found, and either arrested or killed will be driven deeper into hiding, or drawn from it, to do what Ali is doing. Those in the CIA and the FBI are not merely engaged in another turf war; they must find a median in order to prevent a devastating tragedy. And then there is Tahira Ali. What to do with her? That question, though not the first one, is ever-present, as law enforcement and intelligence work together to thwart Hataf's plot.
Reviews
Ylanne wrote:Posts for this roleplay are being made in an "In Character" thread on the traditional forums; my review is likely rather biased, and it is also based off of the existing posts in that thread, of which at the moment, are three, as well as the writing abilities of the players, and what they have already expressed concerning their characters via private communication.
Ylanne wrote:A character-driven story without one meta-plot, which is typical of roleplay, allowing the writers to devise their own conflicts, backstory connections, and plotlines, which they have done with great elegance, developing their characters into round, dynamic persons whose further development has been a pleasure to watch. Looking forward to the continuation of this roleplay.

Ali did not speak. Words were thunderous, easily fatal, and she did not wish to disturb the tranquility of silence. Silence has a beauty all its own, untainted by suffering and pain that words too easily convey, too easily shatter hope and dreams with. Ali reflected then, that she was alone, completely isolated from anyone, and she thought, not without some hint of sorrow, that she had never felt as alone in all her days as she did right now. ”
When the plane came to a halt the cabin door opened up. To his surprise a lieutenant colonel boarded to get him. βChief Carter?β he asked extending a hand. βIβm Lieutenant Colonel Mahaffey, welcome to Langley Airforce Base.β
βGood to meet you, sir,β Nathan replied shaking the colonelβs hand. βI expected a different welcoming committee.β ”
βItβs maximum security Chief Carter. Sheβs under the AGβs jurisdiction now. I know how you feel, but it was all we could do to get you in there. Donβt fuck this up,β Mahaffey told him.
βI wonβt, sir,β Nathan replied as Mahaffey motioned for him to exit the plane. Carter followed him down the planeβs boarding ramp that ended at a HMMWV with a single man in ACUβs in it. As they reached the vehicle the lieutenant colonel turned to Carter. βI pray for your success Chief. Give her hell,β he said as he opened the passenger side door. Nathan climbed in and shut the door, looking over at the sergeant.
βItβll take us about an hour to get there normally. Iβll get us there in thirty,β he said giving Nathan a sly smile. ”
βMaybe not, but if I take the back streetβs itβll be faster than getting through traffic. I know what Iβm doing, sir,β the sergeant responded. βStaff Sergeant Richardson by the way. Nice to meet you, sir.β
Nathan just nodded and they were on their way after Nathan tossed his gear into the back. Carter just stared out the window as the world passed by in a blur of trees, the occasional car, and a buildings. ”

Ali reflected then, that she was alone, completely isolated from anyone, and she thought, not without some hint of sorrow, that she had never felt as alone in all her days as she did right now. ”
In the prison, Tahira Ali was still alone, left unmolested and without company in the interrogation room, wondering who was coming to speak to her, and how soon it would be. It had been another half hour or so, and she was almost beginning to worry, the old anxiety coming back. She wondered again, for the thousandth time, why she was doing this. Was it a ludicrous idea after all? No. Ali steeled herself. It had to be done. It had to be. ”
βLooks like someoneβs trying to beat you too her,β Staff Sergeant Richardson noted, pointing to the agents vehicle.
βWell, letβs hope we can do something about it,β Nathan replied, grabbing his suitcase and stepping out of the vehicle. ”

βB-but sir,β the officer stuttered.
βI said remove them,β Nathan ordered, this time more forceful.
βY-yes sir!β the officer said, walking across the room and undoing the womanβs shackles before leaving the room; closing the door behind him. Nathan walked over and sat down on the chair across from Tahira. βLet me begin by introducing myself. My name is Nathan,β he told her. ”
Inside, Ali looked up when the door opened, eyes narrowing slightly at the sudden sound. She watched the man who entered, wondering why he had ordered the shackles removed, but letting her hands rest on her lap again once the chains were gone, her vacant gaze sliding over to the interrogator, who wore a military uniform, though she did not meet his eyes, nodding at his name. "My name is Tahira," she said, her voice soft, almost inaudible. "It is nice to meet you." At once her accented English stood out, the greeting almost rote. ”

Dawn -- I can't think of anything specific, except either things she is doing with her new job, or things she is doing to avoid being found or tracked. As Tempest suggested, you might have room for some collaboration there.
Re: When the Lion Wakes (limited openings)
Script wrote:Is there anything in particular I need to be posting? Because though there have been a couple of posts that directly refer to Dawn, at the moment I'm thinking I'll need to come up with a little mini-plotline within London for her until the other characters catch up with her. If there's nothing I need to directly address, I'll set to thinking of something.
I'm happy to send a CIA agent after you if you like?

Re: When the Lion Wakes (limited openings)
We're waiting on posts from Ivanol, Script, Baby, Ottoman, and LightingStrikes at the moment. Alasund De'astio and Tempest both recently posted.
This roleplay was originally created in a tab located at When the Lion Wakes in the tab, and Remaeus and I spent the other day creating the correct places where scenes and posts have taken place. Sometime within the next week or two, the posts from the in-character thread will be migrated to the roleplay in the new system, where they will remain readable entirely in chronological order, as well as in-character location-stamped. Future posts (AFTER the existing ones have been migrated) will need to be made to the correct location in the roleplay (and if there is not a location listed here that you need, I can create it for you.)
When this roleplay was first created in March 2010 (yes, 2010), I was not happy with the tab system as it existed. With a slew of recent changes made to suit writing and my style of reading, I would like to see these posts migrated back into the tab. If you don't believe me about its readability, check this Multiverse place and the way posts are listed there. You can click on different pages, and posts made using the posting box at the bottom would appear in that location. The same system, on a smaller scale (as there are fewer *places, roleplayers, and posts in When the Lion Wakes), will work for us, and for both our shorter and longer posts.
