Question
I would assume since hair is technically dead that it wouldn't 'heal', so can it be bleached and dyed, or would only spray-on hair colors work? Also, does vampiric hair grow?
Answer
Vampires can dye their hair, yep. It also grows and can be cut like that of humans, the mechanics of which are purely available because Vampires are designed to be the perfect hunters, meaning they'll have to be able to blend in. I mean, to have 1700's haircut while living in the 20th century might be a little odd, and attention-drawing for those who know what to look for. It's just magic.
Question
Can vampires tell that stranger vampires are vampires too? If so, how do they do this--via something concrete like scent, or something ambiguous like skin temperature or some look in the eyes? If not, are there ever awkward situations like trying to bite another vampire and then going "Goddammit, you were supposed to be my lunch"?
Answer
Well, firstly you can easily tell a Fallen vampire apart by their red eyes, although they always wear either coloured contacts or sunglasses in public. Vampires know each other by scent, but the scent of a newly made vampire may not be developed enough to be able to tell vampires apart, meaning a new vampire may try to make a meal of another vampire in some cases. Although I believe it's rare, as the scent of a human is actually much different than that of a vampire. Humans smell like food, vampires could more so be compared to... flowers.
Question
If a vampire drains another vampire of blood, what happens? Do they gain nourishment from vampire blood, or just pleasure from exchanging it?
Answer
You can technically drain another vampires, but the vampire doesn't die. He just sort of... mummifies. He'll grow weak without the blood in him, but not die. It's the same thing that happens if a vampire is starved. He'll get back on his feet again with a couple of liters of blood, and then you've probably pissed him off. They do gain nourishment by drinking the blood of another vampire but its not as satisfying as human blood unless there is a deep bond between the two that heightens the share. Essentially, they can live off of it, but not for as long, or as powerfully and may go insane. They'll have to drink more often.
Question
What does the pleasure-venom do during a fight with another vampire? Could it theoretically cause a brief paralysis, or are vampires more resistant to each other's venom, perhaps depending on which vampire bites them (like, whether they're attracted to that vampire?)
Answer
The venom doesn't affect other vampires as that is not its function, but the exchange of blood between vampires itself is a powerful, intense and usually rather private thing. Usually the exchange is only made in a sexual way, or if a maker sees fit to first teach a Fledgling to feed on them before moving to humans.
Question
How would a human hunter know that a person was a vampire? Anything besides holy water/sunlight reactions? Something more subtle? Are there any large-scale covert hunter groups? If so, are they government splinter groups, or church/ancestry-based? Do they have any special powers?
Answer
A a proper vampire hunter knows all there is to know about vampires and they're trained to watch the subtle things. They'll watch breathing patterns, any sign of too fast movements, whether their walk is unnaturally elegant and so forth. If a vampire isn't careful and very good at seeming human, a hunter will pick up on it with a bit of thorough studying. There are still hunter groups, much like the Brotherhood Gabriel was part of. They're all church and ancestry based, but no, they don't have any special powers except their training is excellent and very thorough. But there are limits. It'd be very difficult for a couple of lone hunters to take down someone as old as the Leaders, Protectors, and Enforcers. How the groups work depend on the actual group, of course. There are only a couple of select groups left in the world. Previously the amount has been astounding, but as times passed, so did the belief in the supernatural, along with the amount of fanatical/eager church enthusiasts. In the past, there have been groups not based on religion, but rather on a knowledge of vampires and a common hate for them, but those are gone now.
Question
Can vampires get drunk? If so, do they do it by plain old drinking, or mixing it with blood to help the tolerance, or only by drinking from intoxicated humans?
Answer
They can get drunk, yeah, but it tends to be very expensive, because their tolerance is enormous. They can get drunk/high off of the blood of someone who is, but the human would have to be seriously wasted/blazed/high/ect. Some vampires prefer their alcohol with a bit of blood, but it's not necessary.
Question
Can vampires eat? What happens if they try? Do their digestive systems still function well enough, or do they have to vomit a while after eating?
Answer
Yes, they can eat human food. But it tastes like shit and they will vomit it up eventually. Eating too much of it will make them ill. But, there have been cases of some vampires being able to ingest certain types of human food without side effects. These are few and far between, though.
Question
After a vampire is turned, is there a period of unconsciousness? If so, how long does this last?
Answer
Yes, there is a period of unconsciousness, as they've been killed with vampire blood in them. The time span depends on the person. For some, it's half an hour, for some it's 5 hours. Usually females take a bit longer than males, but it also depends on the way they were killed. For instance, if you die from bloodloss, but still with some vampire blood in you, it will take very long for you to wake up again, as opposed to if your neck was broken or something like that. After this period of unconsciousness, a period of intense, gut-wrenching pain follows. This also varies, but the usual time span is a couple of minutes, although to the person it'd feel like hours.
Question
Do they need to breathe, and do their hearts beat, just more slowly than those of humans? Or does the blood only pump when they're in a fight, or emotional, or not at all because there are other mechanisms in play for vampires than humans (such as supernatural ones?)
Answer
No breathing needed, and no heartbeat. Vampires do, however, oftentimes choose to breathe anyways to make themselves seem more human. Newly turned vampires may even take a little while to realize that they don't actually need to breathe. The blood in them does circulate or they wouldn't be able to bleed and all, and they can blush and so forth. It's completely supernatural though, since it flows on its own, without a heart to pump it. It may also explain why they need to replenish lost blood and so forth rather often.
Question
If a young vampire fights an older one, is it an utterly hopeless battle, an unbalanced battle, or a fight that could go either way depending on the individual strengths of the two vampires? Does vampiric ancestry play any sort of role that would affect a fight between maker and progeny?
Answer
Age = power. Meaning that a fight between, for instance, Aphrodite and Angel, would be very unbalanced. It's got something to do with strength, reflexes, reaction-time, the speed of movements and so forth, which always improve with time. The difference would have to be at least a century for it to mean something, though. So 50 years between two vampires, wouldn't mean jack too much, and therefore the fight will be somewhat even - except some are more trained than others and so forth. Ancestry can mean a little, like, a vampire created from the blood of an Original (someone born a vampire) will always have an advantage compared to "normal" vampires. And of course most progenies are much younger than their Makers by centuries. So generally, a Maker will always defeat their progeny.
Question
Are there any special bonds between Maker and progeny? What makes a person a candidate for being Turned?
Answer
To be a Maker is considered to be a great responsibility among Forebearers. The reasons they turn humans can range from a deep love to simply needing numbers in their Coven. Candidates for a Forebearer Coven are often people who have nobody and nothing in life. If they were to die they wouldn't be missed. Or they would have to have a relationship with their future Maker that ran extremely deep. Between Forebearer Maker and progeny the relationships often range between those akin to siblings, parent and child, best friends, and lovers. They tend to be as loyal as they possibly can be. Forebearers save their progenies in their human lives, in a sense. Now, Fallen? Their relationships vary between those of extreme hate to extreme loyalty. Fallen will turn humans for numbers, power, pleasure, or simply to piss someone off.
Question
So...You said Vampires can't have babies anymore. Why? Also...er. How do they...do the deed with a dead body?
Answer
Well, I explained in Aphrodite's that nobody knows where the first Vampires came from and when asked, the Originals always had a different story to tell. Anyways. Once upon a time, Vampires could be born like humans. But they were stronger, faster, and matured physically and most often mentally and emotionally much quicker than humans. The only difference was their aversion to sunlight and holy water and their diet. Now, Vampires could Make humans into their kind via venom stored in one of their venom glands. These Made Vampires had all the attributes of the Born Vampires except...well. Their bodies were sort of no longer capable of a few things. Reproducing and using the bathroom are the main points. They can blush, bleed, orgasm, and all that. But they can't reproduce. Now, how they can "bump uglies". That's easy. Supernatural mumbo jumbo.
