A petite girl with an innocent round face bounced off the train, flipping her fiery red hair and talking animatedly to the somewhat taller boy who was following her quietly. The girl stopped suddenly at the booming voice of Hagrid and grinned when she realized he was gathering all the first years.

"That's where we're supposed to be, Ollie!" she exclaimed, practically skipping towards the other first-years. On the train, they had somehow managed to get crammed into a cabin full of second- and third-year students who had looked at them as if wondering why they were there with them, but none of them had asked them to find another cabin.

Oliver nodded and followed his sister Olivia to where the first years were stepping into the boats, glancing back over at where the older students were getting into carriages that seemed to have nothing pulling them. He wondered what kind of magic made them move and whether they would learn about it in any of their classes this year at Hogwarts. "Careful, Liv," Oliver said, reaching out to help her as Olivia stepped into one of the boats.

Olivia laughed and rolled her eyes. Ollie was always watchful and over-protective with her. It was probably for the best though, as Liv had a tendency to get herself into some sort of trouble as a result of her independent, curious, and sometimes reckless nature. She looked towards the kids in the boat just in front of them and waved, grinning at them, wondering if any of them would end up being in the same house as her.

Astrea smiled and waved at a girl she did not know with red hair, apparently about ready to board one of the other boats. She did not find such a thing as waving to a stranger in the least bit troublesome, and never did it occur to her that the wave may have been aimed at a more familiar face. Besides, the girl was surrounded by a small cloud of pyreknats, small insect-like creatures that tended to turn bright colors in the presence of happy people. She was quite often followed by them herself, at least until they became distracting, at which point she would politely ask them to leave. Come to think of it, there should be more pyreknats around here, what with the general atmosphere of good cheer. Perhaps they were simply rare in this part of the world? They tended to favor warmer places, she had found.

Turning to Lauren, she nodded. "Of course you can," she replied, somewhat confused. She herself had just hopped right on without even thinking to ask if it was acceptable to John. In fact, she'd pretty much done the same thing when entering the train car. Was there some human social convention that she was missing here? She knew she should ask before touching something that belonged to another, but the boat wasn't anyone's in particular that she knew of. Astrea was slightly saddened that she had to think about "human" social conventions at all; shouldn't these be things she already knew? Centaurs just did whatever pleased them or needed to be done, assuming of course that this did not bring harm to another. Her parents tended to behave the same way.

Discarding the troubling thought for the moment, she looked back over her shoulder at the lights illuminating the castle. They weren't quite as lovely as the stars overhead, but they held a certain allure of their own, she supposed. She brought her peculiar necklace out from underneath her robes for a moment, passing small fingers over the smooth, spherical surface. Tiny glimmers of light shone from within, and she was immediately cheered upon thinking that soon, she would know the magic to enlarge the picture it contained.

Melancholy thus abolished, she replaced the necklace and rejoined the present. "I do hope the others come soon. They might have to swim, otherwise, and I do think it would be bad to eat dinner while all wet." She neglected to mention that the other inconveniences to swimming across the lake included hypothermia and possibly death, as they didn't really occur to her.

Ian took a moment to stare at the carriages, departing without any sort of force pulling them. They didn't move as effortlessly as simple magic, there was a sort of awkwardness in their gliding.

He saw one of the girls from earlier stepping onto a boat with John and the smaller girl. He figured they had one more spot, and the quicker they filled up, the quicker they could get across the lake.

"One more?" He asked, slipping in after Lauren with a bright smile, his legs a little uncomfortable as he tried to cross them to fit, but it was nothing the tall boy wasn't used to.

He ran his fingers through the water, it almost felt thick, and he wondered if there was any sort of current or tide at all in it.

"Thankfully it isn't raining." Ian said, figuring they should swap oarmanship halfway through just for comfort's sake. "But the view is astonishing" He said, not sure to marvel more at stars, the forest, the reflections, the castle... He had started talking again though, so soon enough he'd be back up to speed.

Re: Hogwarts: Year One

As he carried his younger brother like somewhat of a victim of war, sleeping in his arms, onto one of the boats that, until he double-checked and spotted another set of twins, he could have sworn was completely empty. He blinked a few times, before slowly waving his hand from side to side as a sort of hello, before he then slid himself after his brother and the other set of twins were fully stowed upon the boat. He seemed rather confused, as he pointed out what, to him, looked like a large skeleton of a horse. "Does..does nobody else see those?" he whispered to the female twins before him, who's name he had picked up as Liz.

Just then, like those in the lines before him, the boat full of students began to suddenly row itself, moving through the waves at a nice, brisk pace, just when Aiden was about to question Hagrid about those odd, skeletal equines. He shook it off as his imagination, though also placed it in the back of his mind to remember it for a later date, just in case. He smirked lightly at the fact that he was, in fact, not the only ginger in the year, which made him just that little bit more ecstatic at being at the school in the first place.

He slowly turned himself around in the wobbly boat, and would then reach both his hands out, curling them around at the wrist and pushing one over the top of the other, so he could shake the hand of both of the other twins at one time, to avoid one thinking they would second. He did so hate when people struck up a conversation with his brother when he was standing just a few inches away, it made his feel like he wasn't important, so he tried to replicate how he wanted to be treated. "Heya! My names Aiden, and this is my brother, Jayden. - Yup, sorry, rhyming twins. Sadly. - And, as you can see from my hair, and my accent, I'm irish. Don't worry, y'don't have'ta kiss me, that's just the sayin'!" he chimed happily, obviously trying to make them laugh.

John raised an eyebrow at Lauren but simply shrugged. He knew that he wasn't about to have this boat to himself and it was hopeful thinking he'd be able to row the whole way by himself. He nodded at Astrea and Ian as he joined them and tried not to show surprise as the oars began to move by themselves. He let go and watched them in fascination, wondering when he'd be able to learn how to charm objects like that before turning his gaze towards the castle.

It was a beautiful sight with a sliver of moonlight shining upon it along with more stars than he thought existed after spending so long in London where light pollution blocked the wonders of the sky. There was one thing the wizarding world had over the muggle world: it wasn't overly bright.

He raised an eyebrow at one of Astrea's comments and rolled his eyes as he replied, "I think they'd prefer to simply walk to the castle if they missed the boats. Freezing to death can't be very high on their to-do list."

Again, he overheard Aiden attempt to flirt with a girl and shook his head, saying, "I would not want to share a dorm-room with him when we hit puberty. I would either have to listen to him complaining about his luck with the girls or be locked out about every night."

He remembered the teenagers from the orphanage. There were never enough adults to keep track of everyone and teenagers as a rule weren't watched as much as long as they didn't seem to be causing trouble. This made midnight rendezvous between opposite sexes unpleasantly blatant, unfortunately for John. Hearing the facts of life from Scales wasn't exactly pleasant, especially since the snake was ignorant of the ways mammals reproduced, meaning that John had to find out for himself later.

Astrea was simply delighted when the boat began to row itself, and watched it with fascination for a good thirty seconds, thus missing the fact that John had rolled his eyes at her and said something or other about being cold. Now that she didn't have to row, she busied herself skimming her hand along the water's surface the ripples distorting the lake's reflection of the sky. She could just barely still make out the carriages, pulled by horselike creatures that she believed were named Thestrals. As they were not a subject of any of her father's work, though, she did not know much about them other than passing references made in a few books she'd read. They seemed to get something of an unfortunate casting, always associated with death or disease or something equally unpleasant, but they didn't look all that frightening to her.

Then again, she had always lacked a common-sense fight-or-flight reflex, which was rather dangerous given her upbringing. Even so, she seemed also to have extraordinary luck, which usually made up for it.

She heard the comment about Aiden, made by John, but as so many such things did, the implication whizzed right over her head. "I don't know," she replied evenly, "He's probably not the sort to get mad enough to lock you out, plus you'd probably know the alohamora spell by then." She couldn't imagine what sort of argument might lead to such a circumstance, but who knew?

By now, the boat was two-thirds of the way across the lake, and she felt excitement stirring within her at the prospect of all that was to come. Classes, professors, homework, Quidditch... it all seemed delightfully different to her mind, even the essays.

A robed figure stood on the opposite bank to recieve the first years. With the elevation of Madame McGonagall's status, it was clear that she would not have been the one to usher them into the hall and up on stage for the sorting hat ceremony. Originally, it was Flitwick's duty, but as she was technically the youngest staff members at Hogwarts, she braved the night to take the pile of squirming, writhing first years in to have their destinies foretold by an article of enchanted clothing.

This "She", being of course Fae Etulito, the newest Defense Against the Dark Arts teacher in a long, grim line of Betrayal and death. Though the lines were now apparently clear of dark activity, she always tried to keep herself on the alert for any further aggression. However, most of the aggression came from her, so it was infatal toward her, and perhaps a few others.

Her fluffy red hair was above a high-collared black robe, covered by an equally black cloak, but the colors of her house made her rather recognizable in the darkness. She could see the boats waft through the mist, and was barely able to hear a few of the more excitable children aboard. This would be a long, but mostly gratifying night.

“How interesting” Lauren muttered, regarding the self rowing boat. She watched the ores with a strangely deep concentration, watching them move. “Magic sure does do useful things.” She gave a small laugh and tore her eyes away from moving objects to regard the others.

She listened to Astrea and John talking and stifled a little laugh. What odd things they were saying. Still though, John’s comment on Aiden made sense to her and she blushed. She thought of adding a little comment of her own but was distracted when she spotted the creatures across the lake, the strange horse like things pulling the carriages. “Um… what are those?” she asked quietly, pointing their way.

Though she couldn’t see them too clearly, what she did see gave her the impression of something sad and just a little scary and as they drew closer she became even more curious. Pushing once again at her glasses, they just did not want to stay on, she tilted her head to the side in curiosity. Her excitement on getting to the school still present but over shadowed somewhat by her want to know what she was seeing. Maybe she'd learn more about the strange creatures in one of her classes.
Peace, love and good food!

Chloris watched the ripples forming in the water - the boat glided over the water so smoothly that she could not remember when it had started moving. It seemed as though the clouds had broken apart and disappeared, as she could now see a clear sky filled with glittering stars. Away from all the light in the city, they looked a lot brighter. She could even see the Milky Way in a distant, faded haze. Her grandfather knew many of the constellations. Every time she visited their house in the country, they would take walks in the evening, and he would try to teach her some of the constellations. Perhaps because she rarely got to see them clearly, or perhaps because they reminded her of other beings and objects, the only constellation Chloris could recognise was Ursa Minor.

She turned her gaze back to the dark water. She was alone on the boat, yet she did not mind it - she was in her own little peaceful universe. She leaned down towards the water, holding on to the boat with one hand, and continued to watch the water. The surface was so smooth that it reminded her of obsidian - at least until the boat cut through it, sending ripples that would soon subside. She glanced up; the other boats weren't too close to hers; they wouldn't be able to hear her. She tilted her head back down, staring at the dark water and the reflections, and began to sing with a clear and yet very soft voice.

Aiden blinked a few times with sheer surprise evident in his eyes as he heard John's joking statement from across the lake. "You got it right the second time!" he chimed comicly, before chuckling so hard that the boat actually began to rock further, almost tipping the two sets of twins out of it. Though, thanks to some quick thinking and Aiden placing his hands heavily onto the sides, gripping tightly and focusing his weight to stop it from doing so, the boat would easily ready itself, and continue on course.

"Though. I mean, it's doubtful" he sighed, scrunching his face up sorrowfully as he continued with "It's not like I'm much of a ladies man here. Most of the girls think I'm a total pig, and I wasn't even hitting on them!" he whimpered, crossing his arms tightly, one over the other, as he fluttered his seemingly quite long and almost feminine lashes, and pushed his 'pretty' lower lip outwards. He was obviously trying to be comic.

It was then that he realized he had in fact misplaced one of his most cherished objects. He began to wildly check his own, and his brothers bags, robes, and pockets. "Shit!" he hissed under his breath, so quietly that he hoped none of the teachers would here him, before he extended his chest briefly, and took a deep breath of relaxation out. A silver object lay in his right palm, a small harmonica which, while obviously having been taken good care of, still seemed quite old.

He grinned wide, a wild smile that caused a seemingly infection fire to appear within. He placed it upon his lips and, after a second or two, began to blow out a gentle, easy tune that [hopefully] made everyone who heard it instantly want to tap their toes and dance, or at least wiggle whilst they were in the boats, along. Then, after he had released the music, he would pull the harmonica back from his lips and hum in quite a handsome singing voice "Ooh, I've got then new school bluuues~" though, from the fact he could hardly speak through gritted teeth and nattering jaws, and that he was about to fall over, it was obviously he wasn't -really- trying to sing, and was doing it for the comic value.

After pocketing the silver object, he spotted a tall, pretty female with curly read hair and long, red robes that seemed similar to silk, but it was doubtful they were. "hmm..I wonder who she is?" he whispered under his brother, before turning and reaching quite far to the next boat, so he was capable of roughly prodding John in the side, whilst trying to stop himself from falling out. He then pointed towards the tall redhead on the banks and whispered to him "D'you know who she is, Johnny-boy?". It seemed, at least, that Aiden was prone to affixing upon people new, and rather annoying, nicknames. Sadly, John was his first victim.

Ian smiled a little at the boats. How had he not guessed? Magic apparently begat laziness, and he wasn't entirely against the idea.

"What's what?" He said, turning to Lauren, and then to where she was pointing, the carriages rolling off out of sight in the forest.

"The carriages?" He said, looking back, his eyes also widened as the castle above was no longer so distant, it was hanging over them, absolutely monolithic, silhouetted, he could almost make out the stain glass patterns, and the peaks of the roofing could only be distinguished due to the stars it was blocking.

"And who's that?" He asked, pointing to the woman awaiting them at the shore they were rapidly approaching. Hogwarts really had a way of engulfing the spirit, and pulling Ian in. The administration had obviously been perfecting this entrance for decades, and it worked like a charm.

"How are we expected to sleep tonight, I wonder?" Ian added. But it was obvious, the adrenaline and expectations would normally keep them up, but the feast was supposed to carboload them until they all passed out content. Hogwarts had really thought of everything.

The harmonica music was distant, and he'd never heard such an instrument before, so it's soft, almost whine was quite enchanting, and he figured it was one of the mer people. His father's favorite joke was that french singing sounded like Mer song... and given the combination of nasal sounds and "zhuzh-ing" he actually sort of drew a connection. That idea was rapidly crushed to see Aiden's movements coincide the sound. He had felt rather smart drawing those parallels.

On the bright side, he knew where the music came from, but he still didn't understand his father's joke...

John opened his mouth to point out why Aidan would lock him out when he decided against it. There was no need to scar Astrea for life as well with that thought. He grimaced at Aidan's nickname for him. He rolled his eyes at his antics. Sure, he lightened the mood, but he was making a fool of himself. He shrugged a little at his question and replied, "I have no idea. Perhaps you can introduce yourself to her after the sorting if you two share a House, God forbid."

After about ten minutes, the boats finally arrived at the other side of the lake. There, they slowly rolled into the caven below the castle and Hagrid announced for the first years to follow him. After some climbing, they reached the Entrance Hall, which John noted with some awe could contain his entire orphanage and the small garden too. Before the first years, Hagrid walked up to a stern-looking woman in black and colors that were presumably her house's. Hagrid smiled warmly at her.

"I got this batch o' firs' years right here, Professor Etulito," Hagrid told her, "Very well-behaved so far. I suppose seeing 'Ogwarts for the very first time does that to you. And the trip went smoothly. No one fell into the water this time."

Etulito smiled in reply; she'd always liked Hagrid's earthy, non-presumptous nature. Even when Sshe herself was in one of those boats waiting to be admitted. "Wonderful," She leaned in rather closely. "anyone I should watch Ol'man?" She mused, knowing he'd find it funny to be addressed that way by a profesor. Fae knew that something like that wouldn't fly outside of a gentle whisper, but with the roar of the great hall behind the closed door and the knitch where she'd lead the others, she figured no one would hear.

After a moment, the drum that told the world of Hogwartz the first years were ready to be sorted let out its thunderous boom and she called down the huge group. "Listen here!" Hollering in a brisk and no-nonsense voice. "I am Profesor Etulito, the Defense Against the Dark Arts instructor. This, is the Sorting Ceremony. I'm sure many of your parents or siblings have told you of it; for those who've not been so lucky, here's how it goes. You form a SINGLE file line and wait QUIETLY while the people in front of you are sorted. When it's your turn, you'll go up and sit yourself down on the stool and I'll be putting the sorting hat on your head. It doesn't hurt, but it does talk. That's what throws people."

She nodded around at the eager faces, hoping and preying to get into their preferred house. "He's quite reasonable, easy to talk to, but don't just sit there an' chat 'im up. We have lots of people here as you can see who're needing to be sorted. Itt's been a long day students, so lets do this as efficently as possible." With that, she pushed open the ajar door and lead the newly forming line of first years to the side of the Great Hall, closest to the Slytherine Banner, where a small staircase would take them up onto the stage. McGonagall, who'd aged rather gracefully the past few years, was giving the evening address in brief; welcoming everyone, especially the new students, to Hogwartz school of Witchcraft and Wizardry.

Astrea clambered out of the boat with the rest of them, but wound up getting so distracted by the stars (again) that she only barely registered what the professor was telling them all about the Sorting Hat, and wound up somewhere near the end of the line. Most of the students seemed to be pushing for those first few places, but she was not inclined to join the crush, being a patient soul generally.

Rather, she let anyone who wished move past her, and wondered absently if perhaps there was some kind of rule that the last person had bad luck or something. The great hall, she noticed, was presently filled with chattering students of all years, some of whom were clearly in a kerfuffle about something; jabbing elbows into sides and pointing at the first-years. Astrea thought for a moment that she must have something on her face, or maybe these students could see the festive Ginterwallops that were presently floating about the room, but no, all the new arrivals were under much the same scrutiny, and the Ginterwallops were ignored, poor things.

She gave a smile and a wave to Chloris, who had not been on the same boat as her, indicating that if the other girl so wished, she could come stand near Astrea in line. The others were somewhere in the vicinity, but she had managed to lose track of them, at least for the moment. She kind of hoped they would find her, but them perhaps they had been more eager to be sorted than she and were now at the front, who could say?

Olivia giggled at Aidan's antics, while her brother seemed to stiffen, apparently uncomfortable with Aidan's comment about kissing. Olivia ignored Oliver's typical big brother attitude, which she made a general rule of doing. She listened, enthralled, as Aidan played his harmonica and clapped enthusiastically as he put the instrument away. "Fantastic!" she mused. "How did you learn to play that? I've been meaning to learn to play some sort of instrument myself. My name's Olivia by the way, but you can call me Liv. And this is my brother, Oliver."

She paused, looking over at Oliver, who still didn't seem as amused. That was just Oliver, though. He wasn't easily amused by anything, or at least didn't really show it when he was. Olivia was sure her brother seemed rather boring or straight-laced to others, but she knew better. Right now, though, he had his eyes fixed on something ahead, and Olivia turned to see what it was. She beamed when she saw they had made it to the other side of the lake and it was time to leave the boats.

They listened, Oliver intently and Olivia eagerly, as the woman who introduced herself as the Defense Against the Dark Arts professor told them what they should expect in the coming moments. Liv hopped out of the boat, grabbing Ollie's arm and pulling him along with her. "I wonder what House we'll in," she said. Then she stopped suddenly, without warning, and Oliver nearly ran into her. "Wait. Do you think we'll be in the same house?"

Oliver shrugged. "I don't know," he said. "Maybe. The hat knows best, I suppose."

Olivia, apparently satisfied with the answer, began walking again. "What house do you think you'll be in?" She directed the question at Aidan, deciding to continue the conversation from the boat.

It was something that he had never himself felt before, coming from such a straight-forward and quite typically comic person, but from a short distance away when everyone had exited the boats, the boy with the mop of red hair seemed to be blushing quite intently. It wasn't quite every day that he got such a compliment; Well actually, it was hardly ever that he got a compliment, as coming from such a small, almost backwards village, men were taught to be strong and tough, and so compliments were never just willingly dished out.

He shifted from side to side rather uncomfortably as he quite easily heafted his brother up onto his right shoulder, being that he was somehow -still- asleep from so long ago, and followed the rest as they mobilized.

Shifting slowly over and over, to his right bit by bit, eventually the redheaded boy would come to a stop just behind the other set of twins, Oliver and Olivia. He smirked abscently as he listened to the words the tall, flame-haired teacher spoke, before she herself left the hallway and walked into a room that, in general, could definitely house his own house, front and back garden, and probably his next door or two also.

He leaned forwards briefly as he heard Olivia's slightly hushed comment, being that the stern, slightly scary-looking teacher had just told them all to be quiet. "Urm. Well, I'm always helpful and nice, so maybe Hufflepuff. By, I'm not exactly stupid, so perhaps Ravenclaw, and blue looks hot on me~ Though..I'm thinking my hair is calling to G-g-g-g-Gryffindooor~" he chimed comicly, before making a rather random superhero-esque pose and grinning widely, a bit like a fool. He enjoyed being the clown of the class, it was just what he did. "You?" he then questioned in equally hushed tone, waiting for her answer.

[OOC: Probably won't be able to reply until late tonight. So, if I miss the sorting, gryffindor or ravenclaw would be best. See you all t'night. ^^]

“Actually I was talking about the things pulling the carriages” Lauren said softly as she stepped out of the boat. Had Ian really not seen them? She shrugged it off. It was of no matter right now. Currently, she was more curious about what the red headed woman had said.

A talking hat? How peculiar. She smiled, wondering what it would sound like and in her musing nearly missed the instruction to form a line. She saw the scramble for the front and decided to avoid it. She wasn’t much for getting caught up in little crowds like that. Hanging back she smiled when she spotted Astrea and walked over, standing behind the other girl.

“Hi” she said quietly, tilting her glasses slightly before tugging at her robes. This time around her glasses hadn’t really been out of place and her clothes were fine, she was just fidgeting, excited to see where she would be placed and a little anxious about having a talking accessory put on her head.

Trying to distract herself from these, well pretty much extremely distracting thoughts she looked around. How was it that she hadn’t noticed how huge this place was? And all the people, she had hardly even registered them being there. Shaking her head she realized she was being rather unobservant right about now and it miffed her slightly. She’d always been happy she noticed the little things but today she was failing to notice even some of the huge ones. She puffed her cheeks out in momentary show of unhappiness with herself that to others could be registered as a pout or a nervous act and then let it drop, her smile returning as her eager curiosity regained dominance over her emotions.

Olivia tilted her head, noticing that Aidan's face had gone a deep shade of pink, and she wondered what had been the cause of that. She tried to remember if she had said anything that would have embarrassed him, but was soon distracted by Aidan's answer to her question about the houses. She laughed at his little super-hero-esque move. "I don't know, really," she answered, trying to remember to keep her voice down. "Hufflepuff maybe, or possibly Ravenclaw. I'm fine with any of the houses, really, except Slytherin. I don't think I would get put there."

Beside her, Oliver cleared his throat. "Erm, sorry to interrupt," he said, looking at Aidan, with his brother (who Oliver thought Aidan had introduced as Jayden, but he wasn't sure) thrown over his shoulder, sleeping. "But shouldn't your brother wake up? The sorting is about to begin, and I'm sure he wouldn't want to miss it." How was it that he had been able to sleep through all of this? There were far too many new, interesting, and magical things going on here for Oliver to even think about sleeping right now as he just took it all in.

Olivia stifled another giggle, glancing at the sleeping twin. "Think we should wake him?" she asked.

Prof. Etulito glanced up and down the line to make sure the first years were all present and accounted for; then, she spotted the sleeping boy in the arms of his brother. "He'll need to be awake for this part, the sorting hat doesn't respond well to unconcious thoughts." She smiled lightly, moving on down the line. When she was quite sure everyone had made it in, she summoned a list from her shirtsleeve. "I'll call you up alphabetically."

Re: Hogwarts: Year One

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Suzumebachi on Sat Sep 11, 2010 11:56 am

Chloris watched the passing scenery as they walked the rest of the way to Hogwarts, even though most of the features were indistinguishable in the dark. She had to squint and shield her eyes when they first entered the castle; even though the candle light was very soft, the contrast with the pitch-black night hurt Chloris' eyes. Her eyes had adjusted by the time they had reached the main hall; after listening to Professor Etulito's introduction, she began to look around her, while those in front of her were busy forming the line.

Her first observation was that the main hall was bigger than she had expected. There were five extremely long tables that she could see; one was occupied by the teachers, and students sat in the rest of them. Based on the colours worn and what her mother had told her, she guessed that each table was for one house. She was still not sure which house she would be sorted into - she was sure that she would not be Slytherin, but the rest.. Although she knew that it was a very old tradition, she found the practice of sorting students - especially according to personality traits - somewhat odd. It made sense that people with similar personalities might get along better, but very different people could also make friends. And plus, wouldn't keeping all the students together increase everyone's tolerance towards different traits? She wondered if she would still be able to see the people she had met today, even if they all went to different houses. Even though she had only known them for a day, they all seemed to be interesting, and she knew that she would feel sad if she was not able to see them anymore.

Her second observation was that magic had been used for many purposes - in order to make a reflection (or perhaps an imitation?) of the night sky instead of a ceiling, and in order to float the candles that illuminated the whole chamber. If they could do these kinds of things with magic, why was her mother so careful about the magic she used? They could have had a better-looking house, and perhaps life might have been easier if her mother had used her magic more. She could not understand - was it because they were in the muggle world that her mother was more careful, or was there a problem with her father?

She snapped out of her thoughts when she noticed that she was the last person remaining who had not entered the line. She smiled and waved at Astrea and Lauren as she approached them, standing behind Lauren. "Hello again." she said cheerfully, even though she felt somewhat self-conscious due to the hundreds of eyes watching all the first years. She felt eager to start the school year, and yet she was most certainly not looking forward to the sorting process.
