Religion:
The Tari religion is based around a number of deities who overlook certain aspects of life. Most of them also have an "element" commonly associated with them, which some priests will explain is somehow tied to the god's spirit.
Most of these deities do not have set genders and have been reportedly worshipped as both male and female avatars; some even believe that each deity is a husband and wife pairing, together watching over their chosen sphere.
Most of the commonly worshipped Gods have a dedicated religious organization commited to them, with many priests building temples in Tarin.
A list of commonly worshipped deities include:
- Fertilia: the 'godess' of love, harmony and the creation of life. Her associated element is the earth, from which plants grow. She is also the patron godess of twins.
- Ankir: the 'god' of death, deterioration and lifelessness. His associated element is the endless sand; which all eventually turns in to. According to folklore, he sends a raft of snakes to carry the bodies of the deceased under the sand dunes of the desert, therefor making them his servants in both body and soul. This is why many people prefer to have their corpses burned, so that their spirits "ride the flames to the afterlife".
- Kerris: often pictured as a strong-armed lion-man, Kerris is the God of war, courage, honour and valour. He is often patron to warriors and called upon to bless those going to combat. His associated element is fire.
- Pere: the godess of weather and passion. It is said that her anger causes great thunderstorms, that her sadness causes rain and that her glee causes comfortable warmth. Her associated element is water.
- Seretoth: with an associated element of strong rock, Seretoth is the god of order, organization and upholding the laws of the Tari.
- Ahar: the godess of the sun and daylight; perhaps the most powerful of all deities. She has, by far, the most number of worshippers along with Fertilia and Kerris.
- Nish: the god of the night and darkness. Little is known about him and his worship is generally disallowed.
- Hanzare: the godess of animals. She maintains the order of the wild animals, hunters are taught to pray for their kill to Hanzare. She then gives a blessing to the dead, and a blessing to the hunter. She watches over both animals and hunters alike.
