The City, Layout and Politics

The City, Layout and Politics:

- Concerning Gender: the Tari are a rather gender-equal people, though as in modern society, sexism will exist in certain areas.

- Population: no official census exists, however, estimates vary from anywhere between 2000-5000.

- The Government: as were the separate tribes before unification, the Tari are led by a single 'Chief', now a King. Since King Vaylen's death, rule has gone to his eldest son and heir, Prince Tenszar, effectively making him the new monarch. However, Tenszar is young and inexperienced and his father before him had many experienced advisers and councillers, which Tenszar is now beginning to turn to for help. While they have little actual power right now, the idea is for Tenszar to eventually create a 'senate' like system.

- The Monarch: as of now, the monarch has almost absolute power; not out of trust, but out of respect for Vaylen shared almost unanimously by the people of the Tari. Tenszar is the new King and has much to live up to.

- The Economy: historically, the Tari have used a bartering system: I'll offer you this item for that item, etcetera. However, it is becoming more and more common to use precious stones, gems and metals found in mines and bodies of water as a form of 'currency'. (Until an actual one is put in place IC, I'll let you guys mostly improvise this.) On another note, the rift between the 'wealthy and important' and the 'poor and forgotten' is rather slim at the moment, with almost all citizens living in moderate comfort.

- The Military: two years after the initial founding (when stalls and merchants first began to set up shop with their wares), Vaylen created a 'Guard Corps' in response to a rise of criminal activity. Though numbering perhaps two hundred men, armed mostly with spears, this Guard Corps is currently the closest thing to a military Tarin has.

- The Layout and Architecture: standing somewhere between ancient Rome, Greece and Egypt architecturally, Tarin is a city made of beautiful white stone. It is still incomplete as of now; taking a large 'circular' shape several miles in diameter. In the very center, the largest building, a palace, is nearing completion and around it lie various temples to the Tari's gods. The more 'wealthy' and important of the Tarin citizens live closer to the palace center, while the poorer live closer to the walls.

The walls themselves are roughly half-completed, with architects aiming for 100 feet tall and several meters thick, with barriers and towers dotting them. There are also two main gates: one on the east overlooking the Lake of Ghosts and one to the west, overlooking the Cradle. A single, smaller gate also exists on the south side - granting easy access to the mine system.
