Introduction

Premise

The continent of Russataia is under the rule of a corrupt king that governs with an iron fist, most of his nation lives in poverty as he forcefully takes nearly anything they earn, others he captures and enslaves to work in his mines. The nation is cut off from most other civilization. It sits in the middle of an ocean with other continents miles upon miles away. None leave the continent after entering, not alive anyway as the king guards his borders and slays any who try to leave, very few are permitted in and once in they may never leave.

In the capital of Arcadium is where his palace resides as well as his famous Coliseum. Every year the king holds the great Russataian games where warriors from all over Russataia come to fight for wealth and glory!. Not all the participants battle for such boastful causes. The king enslaves many and forces them to battle for freedom. Others fight to free imprisoned loved ones, others for enough coin to survive. Some noble ones fight in place for the weak. However winning does not always guarantee any of that, for the king is corrupt.

Image
Most of the continent is quite warm though the area surrounding Mt.Orion is cold and snowy

Goverment

The king rules the kingdom with an iron fists, he takes what he wants from his people and gives nothing back. His guards actively take prisoners to work in his mines or to be arena slaves. Even the pettiest of crimes is punishable by death or torture and often ends in the arena, although some corrupt people get by with bribes. In addition to what some consider normal crimes you can be arrested for a great many things. Magic may only be used inside ones own home or designated areas which are generally training grounds or open areas though some magic is forbidden period. Disobeying the guards for any reason as well as taking part in any money making activity without giving an amount to the government set by the king. People secretly would love to see the king overthrown but they do not nearly possess the man power to do so. Talks against the government may result in public execution.

Magic

Magic exists though its not all that common in Russataia because of the restrictions the king imposes. Most people are born with the ability to use magic, but must study or train themselves to do so. It takes a lot of inner energy to use such power so all but the most powerful of mages generally only learn one school of magic. The major schools are as follow, other magic exists but is lesser known and less common.

School of Elements such as, fire, water, earth, wind, ice, electricity. etc.

School of Conjuration such as, Teleportation, object summoning. spirit summoning. etc

School of Alteration such as, Enhance strength, enhance speed, unlocking locks etc.

School of Transformation such as, Morphing objects, morphing self,

School of Divine such as, Healing, force fields,

School of Necromancy is outlawed in Russataia. but includes resurrecting the dead or calling forth demons.

Those are the major schools but many other types of magic exist, some legal others not.

Technology

The technology is what you would expect, all middle ages except for coal operated machinery. Some have been successful in inventing newer technology, but anything new is subject to inspection and confiscation of the government and possession of unknown weaponry is illegal.

Inhabitants
Humans make up the majority with elves and dwarves close to second the cultures of the three however are roughly the same, humans are the only ones native to Russataia but the king has lived ages longer then any normal human and some are on their third generation, the true elven and dwarven culture may differ greatly but on Russataia they all cling to a single one. Other races live on Russataia as well but are much much less common. However animal, beast and monsters all inhabit Russiataia. Dragons and such exist but are very very rare. The king captures some creatures for use in the arena.

Colosseum games!

Multiple trees
The games take place through multiple tree's with a champion at the top of each of them, combatants can be switched through trees as events take place however the goal is to battle to the top and defeat that trees champion. Once that is done the winner receives prize money and a much bigger chance. The champion of each tree will battle it out for the chance to battle the grand champion if they should so choose. The winner of that fight, be it Genox or a newcomer will receive prize money, and something much more valuable. A single wish granted by King Egan himself. Wish for fortune, women, freedom. Almost anything is within the kings power to grant. A loss in the tournament does not necessary mean you are out of the running, certain events or fights may give a combatant a second chance.

Match Rules
Generally it is a no holds bar, normal matches are not to the death but death can obviously happen. The fight go's on until the other is unable to keep fighting or a judge stops the match and declares a winner. The arena is also normally outfitted with obstacles or traps.

Match Types

Normal: A single gladiator pitted against another in one on one combat.

Team: Two gladiators per team pitted agains't one another in two vs two combat.

Beast: A gladiator or two pitted against a beast or monster in a battle to the death.

Gauntlet: A gladiator or two pitted agains't a wave of lesser combatants. Usually criminals or untrained slaves.

Flag: Two teams of two battle it for a flag placed in the arena, the objective is to get the flag to your teams goal.

Death match: Any match can be declared a death match, if a death match is declared the combatants battle to the death. All matches vs a champion is a death match.

Arena Match Dice System

As we decided early in the RP that we were going to use a dice system for arena match's that I was in the process of creating. The dice system is ready to go and here is how it works. Please note that the following only applies to fights that take place INSIDE of the arena.

1: When a player is battling an NPC the fight progress's as it normally would. Gorman Conall controls the NPC.

2: When a player is battling another player in a non death match the outcome is decided by a dice roll thrown by the Gorman Conall and PMed to each of the combatants. The fight will progress normally so long as it ends with the dice roll outcome.

3: A player vs player death match will not take place without preplanning. If at anytime it does, the dice will not be used for it.

4: The dice used will be a 20 sided dice but may change depending on the map conditions. Advantages and disadvantages will be gained prior to battle. The chance rate is at default 50/50 or 10 to 10. However certain conditions change it. Perhaps one combatant enters the arena with an injury. The chances may change to 11 to 9 or further depending on the severity of the injury. More conditions do apply and will be explained prior to each match by Gorman Conall in the OOC

Rules and guidelines for joining

1: Be active, please if at all possible do not join unless you intend to stay with it. I like to see my RPs all the way through.

2: No god modding of any kind

3: Please try to write well, if you are not the best at spelling like me, use a spell check.

4: Be unique, if someone before you joined and has a certain power, don't make a character with the same power.

5: The RP will always be open and people will be able to join in progress, however you must have some understanding of what has happened. You should try to read the whole thing, but I will post summary's in the information station.

6: Time zones, I am in the EST timezone, its fine if you have a different timezone as long as its relatively close to the ones in the United States.

I myself will have control of the king and I may make some other characters. You may be whatever you want, a warrior, mage, someone who serves the king or even a peasant. Post a bio and I will have a look.

I put a lot of work in this, so if you are interested please join up.

Her answer shocked him, Joseph had never heard of such a thing. They never held such traditions in his homeland. He could clearly see through her eyes that Gabriella was none to pleased about this. She was essentially being sold. He reached out and shook her hand "Joseph, Joseph Moldentay...forgive me for being so..blunt but what separates you from the slaves the king keeps?..they go free to the highest bidder..well provided they aren't killed O course.." He said awkwardly many of the nobles behind him now fuming with anger. As he leaned on his staff one of the men kicked it out from under him causing him to fall.

"Yeesh..rich people.." He mumbled standing up once more. He couldn't forgive himself if he just left now, people should marry for love, but the young girl had no choice in the matter merely because she exists. He leaned in and hugged Gabriella, it was a gesture of romance to all the by standers but it had much more meaning, he placed his lips to her ear and spoke very softly.

"Quickly now, do you agree with this charade or are you as disgusted as I am? say the word and ill buy you some time, otherwise Ill walk out now and may you forgive me for my uninvited intrusion." He whispered with a hint of urgency.

Well Artos, what now? Endy thought as he watched the mysterious Gladiator disappear into the night. Play for the King! That could turn out to be the best thing to happen in his career..or the most disaterous. In any case, he would begin the song tomorrow.

The bard walked back into the bistro and retrieved his lyre and other things then headed back to his inn. The streets were empty except for some very subtle music coming from up ahead. Endymion was always tuned to the nuances of music..and this was bad. He passed a home with a very ornate facade, and looked up the stairs. There appeared to be a party of some sort going on. The musicians were attrocious.

I will stop by and inquire into these peoples needs tomorrow. After all, I am to play for the King. I may find that I never have to wander the country side again. He thought and smiled.

He arrived at his inn, just down the road, and went to his room. He had paid extra for a lock on the door. He took the lyre from its bag and began to polish it.

"Artos, I think it is time you revealed to me what your grand scheme is after all these years, don't you?"

The lyre was silent.

Gabriella liked this Joseph man, he saw this charade for what it truly was. Although after he fell down again he did the most peculiar thing, he hugged her. She had never been so close to a man that was not in her family before. Up close he smelled like soot and grease, but it was rather pleasant. Then he began to whisper something very quietly into her ear.

"Quickly now, do you agree with this charade or are you as disgusted as I am? say the word and ill buy you some time, otherwise Ill walk out now and may you forgive me for my uninvited intrusion." He whispered with a hint of urgency.

The question took her aback more then the embrace had, but coming up with a answer would take her almost no time at all. In a low voice she whispered softly back to him. "I agree with it about as much as the cows wish to go to the slaughter house. But what on earth are you going to do about it?"

At her reply Joseph let go and smiled, before he turned to walk away he winked at her. He walked passed the growling men and in to the kitchen where one of the maids was busy preparing food for the guests. When she stepped out Joseph pulled a heap of junk metal from his various pockets and laid them on the floor. He also pulled out a couple of handkerchiefs. With a few waves of his hand the magical essence swarmed around the cloths and formed a nice size pouch. The metal had torn itself asunder and reformed in to circular bits that quickly turned to gold.

In front of him was what now appeared to be a heap of gold coins that he filled the pouch with. A smiled swept across his face, it was a trick he didn't often use but the results were amusing when he did. The gold coins wouldn't last for more then a few days, but it would be enough to buy the young girl sometime anyway.

He walked back in to the ball room and approached Gabriellas father, mustering up the best impersonation of a noblemen he could muster he bowed before speaking. "Your daughter is a wonderful gem of a lady, I would be more then honored and the happiest man in the lands to take her as my wife. To show my true devotion I present to you, her wise father with this" Jaws dropped as Joseph handed him the bag of gold. It was more then most of them had even thought of spending on the girl. Joseph was laughing on the inside knowing the gold was fake.

Meanwhile Preliminarilys had begun, the coliseum was empty except for the king and a few judges. Combatants torn at each other ruthlessly all trying to prove their worth so that they may be allowed to enter the real games that were quickly approaching. Outside of the arena people were lining up to sign up, it was only the first day of the sign ups and it seemed that this would be the biggest turn out of gladiators yet.

Alex was at the back of the crowd with people pushing all around him. He was taller than most of them, but the shoving was getting annoying and he was beginning to feel a little claustrophobic. He was beginning to wonder whether it was really a good idea to attend, when Gabriella appeared. He found himself staring, trying to remember the small blond haired girl that was running around in the field with Gracin and him. She was the most beautiful woman he had ever seen, her fancy clothes making her look even more beautiful. He could understand now why there were so many here who wanted her hand in marriage.

He was broken out of his stare when an oddly dressed young man made something of a clumsy fall right in front of Gabriella. Alex wondered how the man had even made it in here, dressed as he was, especially with the odd looking goggles he wore.

"Well then....who are you and why do I have to speak to you before I can leave?" The man asked the woman politely.

That really appeared odd to Alexander. If he didn't know who she was, then why was he here in the first place? He quickly came to the conclusion that this young man was new to this town, since everyone knew who the Montales were, and had come here by curiosity, or by accident.

He saw her lean forward to the man to whisper something in his ear, something he guessed she didn't want others to hear and laugh about. But what the man known as Joseph said next, really bothered him.

"Joseph, Joseph Moldentay...forgive me for being so..blunt, but what separates you from the slaves the king keeps? They go free to the highest bidder..well provided they aren't killed of course.."

He was off in his own world for a minute, unaware of the presence of others in the room. Slaves...the word echoed in his mind over and over. Joseph had brought up something he had taken for granted in this forsaken society. While he hadn't brought any money with him, intending to pay more of a social visit then marrying her, he suddenly felt guilty for even attending this fraudulent party. He realized, there was no difference between Gabriella or any other slave. The young woman who stood up there in her radiating beauty, would be forced to marry whoever her father chose for her based on who had the most money, regardless of love. She would just be well off, but still trapped.

His gaze was focused on the silk carpet that covered the floor. He felt anger building up inside of him as he clenched his fists. Anger at the way society was run, anger at himself for not doing something about it, anger at..the king. He lifted his gaze to stare out the window at the castle that could be seen in the distance, his face showing all his anger and hatred. He felt the urge to light something on fire, when Joseph knocked him out of it, doing the most amazing thing. Not only did he hug Gabriella romantically, like they were actually lovers, but then he went to her father and brought a huge coin sack, much more than any would dream of "buying" a girl for. He felt as if his jaw had dropped to the ground as he watched Joseph present it to her father.

Joseph had left as quickly as he had come. After he moved on Gabriella was accosted by many more suitors. Then out of a corner of hr eyes she saw him approaching her father with what looked like a large sack full of gold. Could this odd man Joseph have the money to pay for her, was he helping or merely buying her. She took a moment and thought of a married life with him, and decided that as odd as it would be it could be worse.

Draidin was almost as miserable as Gabriella, most of the offers he had received he wouldn't even entertain. His daughter was precious and priceless, but this was the way society was so he would do his best to give his Gabby the best. He saw the strange young man fall at his daughters feet and almost shouted out at him when he embraced her, but he was caught up with other men trying to give bids. Then appeared the same strange man in front of him, he looked so out of place with strange goggles on his head. In his hands was a large bag.

"Your daughter is a wonderful gem of a lady, I would be more then honored and the happiest man in the lands to take her as my wife. To show my true devotion I present to you, her wise father with this." Draidin was speechless the young man handed him a bag full of gold coins, more then enough to buy the entire estate two fold. He could hardly refuse such a bold statement, and it seemed as if Gabriella approved of him. He sighed knowing that before long his daughter would be gone again.

Draidin pulled the young man aside, "You blow me away young man, I will gladly meet with you in the morning to discuss your intentions. May I ask the name behind this offer?" With this he clapped his hands and the music began to play loudly signaling that a bid had been accepted. Now the party would begin and any that did not get the winning bid in could still dance with Gabriella

Gabriella moved through the crowd, dodging dance request as she could saying she would need to rest first. She kept an eye on Joseph who was now listing to her father talk in hushed tones. It seemed as if his plan was working whatever it was. Then she saw Alexander Dreynon standing above the crowd and remembered the days that they played in the field together with Gracin. She made her way over to him and curtsied once she reached him.

"If you've come to put your bid in it seems as though your a little to late. Though I wager that you've only come to see how well this tomboy cleans up."

Milo made his way back home and was greeted with a rather cold reception, his mother and father waited for him in the sitting room. After a very, very, long talk he was released to his bedroom for the remainder of the night.

He looked out his window at the Montale home down the street.

"Gabriella... " he whispered to himself; it was a bit exciting having her back in town. Not many people could afford to leave and most refused to send their children away for fear the King would steal them away to the slave pens for future blood bathes in his colleseum.

"I wonder what its like outside of this city." He had never really left Arcadium, his father said that their family had too many enemies to let his only son travel out of his sight.

"She can't possibly be as bad as the rest of her family... I mean she isn't the one forcing slaves to fight. Its the choice of her parents..." He tried to reason why it would be okay to speak with her. He knew their families hated eachother, but it wasn't his battle nor should it be hers, it was their parents.

He let out a sigh and fell onto his bed, he was much more tired than he had thought and soon found himself asleep at the rise of the sun.

Aylward sighed when he saw the mouse skittle out the door again. "Guess I was too blatant about my knowledge of his powers." Aylward commented to himself. He wanted to go look for the boy, but knew he wouldn't have much luck, looking for a shapeshifter in a crowd of people, especially one who could transform into animals as well.

Aylward picked up a long slender stick from a pile that lay at the corner of his room. They looked innocent enough, what could these sticks do? Anyone who ever witnessed what Aylward did with those sticks would know. He used his wind magic to fashion the sticks into arrows. Sharpening one end with a knife, and hollowing it out with his magic. This allowed his arrows to spin and slice through the air, channeling it out the tail end to increase both their flight speed and piercing power.

Alex tried to make sense of all that just happened. The strange man known as Joseph, who saw this for a charade and preferred true love, went up to her father and presented a rather large coin sack. Could it be that he was trying to "rescue" her, or did he really intend to marry her?

He was in deep thought when Gabriella approached him, her voice startling him. He looked at her and smiled, she certainly was a "wonderful gem of a lady".

He took her hand and kissed it gently before setting it back. "No, I'm afraid I don't have enough to compete with that young man over there," He said with a smile, it being clearly obvious he didn't bring any. "But I don't think I'm worthy of being your husband."

"I'm surprised you remember me after all these years. The last time I saw you was at the school in Montale, and your brother, it's been at least 15 years since I last saw him. He probably doesn't even recognize me." He wondered a little absentmindedly if Gabriella had noticed him or the family crest on his clothing.

Milo slept most of the morning and afternoon away, he woke up to the maid, Lydia, humming loudly as she cleaned the hallway outside his bed room. Milo pulled himself from his bed and dressed after a bath.
He tried to sneak around the house not wanting to see either of his parents after the conversation the night before.

"Lydia, where are my parents?" Milo asked as he peeked in the room she was cleaning, she seemed startled before she realized it was him.

"Oh! Sire, you did give me quite a fright." She said with a smile as she held her hand to her chest. She was a portly old woman who had been with the family for years.

"Forgive me Lydia, I didn't mean to." Milo said with a laugh.

"It's alright; I think your father and mother went out for the day, I can't recall what for." she put her hand on her hip and tilted her head in thought.

"I can't think of it." She swatted her failed effort away and began to dust a chair.

"Alright, well thank you." Milo nodded with a warm smile before he headed downstairs. As he passed by a table something caught his eye, it was an invitation addressed to him, and from the Montales.

"Strange..." he said outloud as he opened the letter, it stated that he was invited to attend a courting party for Gabriella Montale.

"Your mother would prefere you not attend young Master." Calvin, a very old servent spoke as he entered the room, he moved from potted plant to potted plant giving each just enough water from a jug.

"Of course she would prefere I not attend..." Milo uttered sarcastically before pocketing the letter and leaving the house. He wore his maroon cloak and kept his porcelain mask wrapped in cloth tucked into his bag.

He stood before the Montale estate, it was impressive but no larger than his home.

"Built on the backs of slaves they later forced into battle no doubt." He thought as he stepped up to the door, he raised his hand to knock but stopped.

"She won't want you here..." He thought.

He turned to leave and as he did he spotted his mother and father passing by.

"Crap!" He said as he ducked down behind a fountain.

A servent opened the door of the house and stared at Milo with concern.

"Ah, Master Black." He stated outloud, Milo turned and placed his fingure to his lips.

"Shhh!" He held up his hands trying to quite the man.

"Are you alright." The servent asked; at this Milo gave up his attempt to quiet the man and dashed inside the house just as his parents passed, he prayed that they hadn't seen him.

Toya glanced over his shoulder as Gabriella had appeared in the room for a few moments, only for enough time to explain who this man was and what he was to learn from him. So that older man that had been taking slaves out for training with was called Gracin? Well, that was one thing he'd learnt.
He was distracted from these thoughts as she mentioned something about being a master mage, though not in his element.
"I-" He didn't even have a chance to tell her of his electrical gift, as she was whisked from the room by the maids to get ready for some party. He guessed he was going to have to tell her later, if she came to visit after her little gathering upstairs.

When she disappeared upstairs, Toya's gaze wandered back to Roger.
"What's the party for...?" He asked the trainer, who frowned a little as he replied to the neko's question.
"To find Gabriella a husband." He replied simply. The thought of the woman that had rescued him from slavery being taken off by another man so quickly worried him a little. Would she still be around to help him in the games like she said she'd be? Maybe she'd take him with her - he was supposed to be his pet after all. It probably all depended on how fast things happened, she might not even marry till after the games, in which he probably wouldn't be around to worry about anyway.

Either way, Toya thought it was probably best to change the subject, returning his attention to Roger with a slightly apologetic frown on his face
"You're going to have a little trouble teaching me to be good enough for the games," He said, "I've never fought before... Unless you count playfighting with my brother counts." He doubted playfights would give him any sort of experience for the colosseum. "I don't have a weapon either, the dagger my brother gave me got taken off me when I was taken away."
This news didn't exactly please Roger, but at least he had an idea of the experience that his latest student had.

~~~
Avis's long walk for today ended with him being searched at the gates of Arcadium. The guards had looked at him strangely, treating him with extra caution because they had not seen anything like him before, they probably thought that this made him more dangerous. It's not like he would do any damage to the guards while they were in that armour, he had a hard enough time trying to whack the life out of it when they were taking Toya away - he wasn't sure he had the energy to do that again and actually get it to work.
Either way, they found nothing worthy of dragging him away like his brother had been. Something in him had hoped he'd been taken in by the guards though, thinking that there would've been a better chance in finding Toya if he was in the same sort of place where all the captives were taken.
For now, being in Arcadium was the best he could do for getting close to his brother's whereabouts today. He'd have to find another inn, and hope that he could afford it, so that he could rest for the night and then go investigate these games where everyone had said that he would find Toya being forced to compete in.
He wanted to talk tomorrow, Josephs jaw dropped slightly and his eye twitched for a moment. While his plans were normally ingenious he only ever thought them a few steps ahead, they often worked but much like his volatile contraptions they would work in unexpected ways. He had hoped to buy the girl more then a day, after all the coins would last three or four. He would have to roll with the punches as they would come though, he would worry about the problems as they came.
"Joseph Moldentay" He replied shaking her fathers hand before bowing "I look forward to speaking with you in the morning" he added as he backed away politely. The men in the crowd were scowling and fuming at him. He wanted to have another word with Gabriella but she was busy entertaining another, just as well he watched another boy shoot through the door. He decided he might as well enjoy the party grabbed a glass a wine and took a seat throwing on arm casually over the back of a chair.
Draidin looked as the odd boy Joseph Moldentay walked away. This was an unusual night, normally he would wait until all the offers had been made and then take the top three and let them court Gabriella until one man won out. But no one could even compete with Josephs offer. So now he would meet with him in the morning and see when he would want to marry Gabby. I thought I would have more time, maybe he wont want to get married right away. The rest of the night he wandered around the party making small talk, all the while thinking about the strange man, Joseph.
Gabriella laughed lightly, "Well its had to miss some who sticks out above the crowd so easily. Not to mention I don't know that many people who carry a big sword like that everywhere. As for if Gracin would remember you why don't you ask him your self?" She spotted Gracin in the crowd an motioned him over.
Gracin took a good look at Alex, after a customary bow, and his famous grin came to his face. "Why this couldnt be that scrawny little Alex Dreynon boy I knew so many yeas ago?" Gabriella nodded. "Well then, how have you been?"
"While you two reminisce I have other guests to greet." She curtsied and left, she started to look around the room for Joseph. He was no longer at her fathers side but she couldnt quite find him in the crowd. While she was looking she almost got ran over by another man darting in the door. "Well hello, is everything alright?"
"Well hello, is everything alright?" A sweet voice came. Milo stopped and turned slowly to face Gabriella.
"oh, Hello." Milo gave a quick bow as his eyes scanned passed her, the servent was just closing the door.
"Uh, yes. Everything is quite fine." He said with a smile; he finally let his eyes fall to hers. She was beautiful.
"Gabriella..." He uttered.
"I'm not sure if you remember me... I'm Milo Black... from down the street." He wasn't sure how he should go about his introduction, after all he had no clue if her family felt the same way about his that his felt about them.
The day had been spent writing, cramped in his room lyre on his knee. It was time for dinner and a drink, and to stretch his legs.
"Artos, you have remained silent all day...what are you waiting for?" Endy mumbled to the lyre.
He left his room and headed to the bistro. Passing the estate where the horrible music was coming from last night, he couldn't let it go. The bard approached the front door and knocked. When the servant answered he handed him a card.
"Please give this to your mistress with my compliments. Tell her Endymion Krewe would be honored to audition for her. If she does not know who I am she will." Endy focused his talents on the man and was sure that he would carry the message word for word to the mistress of the house.
Endymion bowed and left for the bistro
When Xilas arrived in Arcadium, night had long since fallen. Most of the nobles were sleeping, and the shadier characters of the city were about. Xilas's first thought on arrival was "I need not fear those petty theives, one look at my massive scythe should scare any away." His second thought was "Perhaps I should hide it, actually... I have not trained all day, a chance to show my skills would be nice."
Xilas quickly hid his scythe at the end of an alleyway, and patiently waited to see what breed of ruffian would appear. It was not long before he heard the rustling of a rogue's garments, and quick footsteps. He turned to see two very ragged looking men standing at the end of the alley, eyes full of hunger and dark hope. They both held very worn, rusty daggers, covered in dried blood.
"Well, Joe, look what the cat dragged in.... This little boy thinks he can just walk into our territory unarmed, and unafraid."
"Yeah, looks like we'll have to teach him a lesson. And who knows, maybe he has some money under those scraps!"
Xilas gave a brief chuckle in reply, and grabbed the scythe just behind the wall.
"What's so funny, kid? You see something funny?"
The first mugger charged at him, eyes full of malice. Xilas quickly stepped aside, putting the but of his scythe right in the mugger's path. As he fell face down into the dirt, Xilas lifted the butt and smashed it right in between his shoulderblades. He heard a subtle *crack* and knew the spine was broken.
In all the commotion Xilas forgot the second mugger, and turned just in time to see a dagger darting towards his throat. He quickly pulled up his arm, receiving a deep cut that started bleeding badly. Xilas turned to the thief... and laughed. He raised his bleeding arm directly in front of the man's eyes and said
"Look, do you see? See how the blood flow stops? See how the flesh grows back? See how you are not dealing with any regular street urchin? Run now, and I might let you live."
The frightened thief took his chance and fled... but Xilas ran right behind him. He sweeped his scythe's blade right into the thief's legs, severing one and wounding the other. The mugger gave out a tremendous scream, then looked at Xilas, and choked out these words:
"You..." he coughed "... you said you'd... let... me get away!"
"No. I said that I *might* let you live."
Xilas swung the scythe far over his head, and brought the blade down, sinking it into the thief's skull.
Alexander watched as Gracin made his way through the crowd to where Gabriella and he stood. Gracin took a good look at Alex, after a customary bow, and his famous grin came to his face. "Why this couldnt be that scrawny little Alex Dreynon boy I knew so many years ago?"
Alex couldn't help but grin back at Gracin. "I wasn't THAT scrawny," He said in self defense, the grin still present on his face.
"Well then, how have you been?"
"While you two reminisce I have other guests to greet."
Alex gave a slight bow after Gabriella curtsied then turned to Gracin as she left. "I've been quite well actually for someone who hasn't been in Arcadium for a while. The towns away from the city aren't quite as friendly as here," He said, remembering the time when a gang of thieves had decided to take him on.
"I'm sure you want to know what I've been up to these past years," He said with a chuckle. "I left Arcadium to study at the school of magic, after which, I didn't return immediately to my home here, but decided to visit the other towns scattered around our little country." He purposely left out the bit of information about training under his father's mentor and master swordsman.
"So what are you good at then?" Roger asked Toya, guessing that he was going to need some basis to work on with the boy. He watched the neko carefully, still intriguied by the feline characteristics attatched to him. The boy was human, and yet so feline at the same time. It would definitely be interesting to see how this one worked out.
"Well, me and my brother used to be street entertainers. All I'm good at is gymnastics stuff, and jumping... I guess I'm pretty quick on my feet too..." Toya said, Roger pausing for a few moments to think things over.
"Right, so you shouldn't be too bad at dodging things," He said, wandering over towards some sort of shelf that was lined with many little daggers. "You're agility should help you in close range too..."
Roger handed Toya the dagger that he'd taken off the shelf, teaching the boy the best way to hold the blade as Toya held it like he was going to stab anything that he could.
"You better warn me if you've got any hidden talents now..." Roger added as he backed off, taking a sword in his calloused hands, preparing to teach the boy the basics in attack and defense. "I'd rather not be surprised when you unleash something I had no idea about."
"Well..." Toya said, "I do have weak control over lightning. It's not a very good control though, it doesn't really work when I want it to though..."
Roger looked at him quizically.
"Right, I'll let Gabriella know for you, she might be able to help you with that..."
And with that, the lesson began.
Avis wandered the streets of Arcadium, searching out an inn that was cheap enough for him to afford. Unfortunately not everyone liked the look of him, and conveniently the prices were too high for his mere change.
He passed an estate, fancy carriages outside and people wandering too and from them. He blinked a couple of times at them, wondering what was going on there that was so amazing. He noticed someone handing a card to another that looked like some sort of waiter, the card-giver then moving his way.
His feline ears twitched a couple of times, guessing it was time to stop stairing and continue looking for a place to stay, hoping that someone would take pity on him and allow him to stay for the money that he had to offer.
Endy arrived at the bistro and prepared for his show. After a quick dinner he wandered over to the stage area and began to strum. With in minutes the entire room was filled, and again the crowd spilled into the square.
Endymion began to play, but his mind was not in the performance. Artos's voice was beginning to speak to the bard.
"Genox shall pay and it shall begin with a sssssong."
"How do you do, Milo Black? I would introduce myself but it seems you already know my name." Gabriella curtsied and let a soft smile cross her face, she recognized his face from around town but she couldnt place where she had heard his name before. While she as still keeping her eye out for Joseph, something about this Milo seemed very interesting. "Well, how are you enjoying the party so far?"
Meanwhile Gracin still kept his grin on his face. "I left Arcadium to study at the school of magic, after which, I didn't return immediately to my home here, but decided to visit the other towns scattered around our little country."
"Well it seem that everyone around here has some sort of magical ability, alas I have no patients for book learning. I am jealous of your travels, the only other place I've been is Moonvale. And other then the university it might as well be Arcadium. I wish I could see the sea, I have heard that it just goes on forever." He clapped his hands together. "Well enough of my rambling, so what have you done since you've been back, other then crash my sisters party." Gracin winked at Alex.
Dustin sat silently outside of a tavern, his back resting against the back of the building, waking from sleep as the sun began to set. There was no danger in the light of day, and no way for him to test himself, to keep himself strong. He got up and dusted himself off, putting on his black cloak and placing his swords at his side but still hidden under his cloak, he ventured off into the streets of Arcadium.
He'd been here for only a few weeks, figuring there was little else he could learn in preparation for the games. For nine years he had done nothing but fight and train, calling upon the hate in his heart for strength and the will to press on past his body's limits time and time again. He had travelled the continent learning all he could about fighting, and having already signed up for the games his struggle will soon be at an end.
Dustin looked up at the moon as it began to rise and decided he should eat before he set out to prey on the scum of the night. He approached the entrance to the tavern and made his way inside. A few people still filled the modest establishment, though they did seem to be a little anxious. Dustin just shrugged it off, muttering about "guards knowing nothing of subtlety". He approached the bartender and asked if he "Still had any food or had this heard of cattle eaten it all?". The barkeep chuckled noting all ten of his customers.
"Had you come any later I might be all out. We have some pork and a bit of old grog though if your interested" the barkeep joked.
"Not a problem, I'll take whatever you got, just keep it light, I'm a little low on money" Dustin replied. He laid a few coins on the bar and turned to survey the people in the bar. He didn't see anyone of interest. He waited for about half an hour, and when the barkeep had a break from the "crowd" had Dustin's food sent to him. Dustin took it and ate it quickly, savoring every bite and every sip. Once finished, he placed his plate and glass on a table, and left the bar, hoping to run into a mugger or two to keep his skills sharp...
"Well, how are you enjoying the party so far?" Gabriella asked.
"It's excellent." Milo answered as he glanced around the room; a servent passed by with a tray of wine and offered one to Milo and Gabriella, Milo politely declined.
He wanted to talk to her about her studies abroad and what it was like being out of Arcadium but now wasn't the time, after all she was in the middle of searching for a husband.
"So you are to be married?" Milo asked.
"You must be excited." He gave a forced smile.
After covering up or hiding the bodies as best he could, Xilas made his way to the Colosseum.
He wanted to find an inn that was nearby, and had been able to scrounge up a few coins from the thieves' bodies. He saw few people, going through the lesser populated parts of Arcadium, and saw no thieves, the blood on his scythe likely scaring them off.
As he turned an anonymous corner, he came face to face with a green-eyed man, with long dark hair, carrying two very sharp looking swords. A puzzled look came over his face, and then a look of... hunger.
"What are you doing out this late, kid?" said Dustin....
Aylward stood awkwardly outside the door of the Montale residence. Word had spread about that the daughter of the Montales was to be married to a suitor of sufficient standing tonight, and he had decided to check it out immediately, failing to consider how an elf would have stood out amongst the crowd of the rich and powerful. Aylward sighed at his own failure to plan ahead and merely stood out of sight of the doors.
He had heard of her, just vague whispers among those who silently resisted King Egan's regime. She had a kind heart and despite her facade of being just another Montale, her kindness to the slaves had not gone unnoticed, at least among Aylward's information network. Any such act would likely to draw suspicion from the King and they knew the importance of keeping such information discreet. Yet Aylward could only stand outside the party looking in as he wondered how he would manage to sneak into such a gathering without drawing any attention. He was going to need more than stealth.
Dustin began to patrol the streets, looking for someone who would give him an excuse to fight or kill, depending on the excuse. Normally he turned a blind eye to thieves and the like, since stopping them from harming people did not get him any closer to killing the King, but toying with them was decent enough practice, and he felt a dead corpse or two sent an appropriate message to the guards, especially when those bodies hung from the sides of rooftops for all to see...
He'd already made sport of a few unfortunate muggers and hung their bodies from a lamp post and was prowling for more victims when he turned a corner and ran into a kid dressed in ragged looking clothes. This confused Dustin for a moment, since only the brave or stupid dared to venture out at night alone. He then spotted the scythe's silhouette against the moonlight, with bloodstains by the looks of it. Dustin looked back down at the kid, grinning slightly as he put two and two together.
"What are you doing out this late, kid?" Dustin said, drilling the kid with his eyes. "Although I can't help but notice that blood on your scythe... you wouldn't be out causing trouble now would you? Know what I did with the last trouble maker I found out here?" Dustin added as his hand ever so slowly slipped towards his swords. He'd give the kid a chance to run... killing someone his age would just leave a bad taste in his mouth since there would be no challange in it. Then again, the way the kid was standing he looked like he might know how to fight. This was becoming an interesting night...
