She rubbed Gunter's back lightly, not sure on how exactly to console him. " To tell the truth," Emory continued, not really talking to anyone as she shifted her dark gaze to stare at the white wall across from herself. " It kind of scares me to find even that much out.." She was hesitant at first to saying this but she figured it was better to have it said. Maybe the others were scared, or at least worried, too.

The white walls suddenly became blinding, hostile. His ears rang. Gasping, he shut his eyes tightly and covered his ears with his hands. Voices barked and shouted in his head, 'Ducken! Die Artillerie, Die Artillerie!' 'Hertz! Ducken! Hertz!' Everything was so slow. All was light and noise. Then it stopped. Everything stopped, except for one voice. A female voice. 'Gunter! Hilfe! Hil-' It was cut off abrubtly by an explosion. A bright light flashed, and then Gunter felt as if he were being pushed backwards through water. It was another flashback, a visual one. He saw long, blonde braids being cut off and falling to the floor. Brave, determined grey eyes. He saw himself pleading with her to stop, to stay in the infirmary where she was safe. She shook her head sadly. She wanted to go. She needed to fight. She walked through the conscription line in her stolen uniform, pretending to be a boy, and they never suspected a thing. Either that, or they didn't care. He tried to stop her, but she just kept marching. Then he saw a small-framed corpse being dragged over with the others. He could barely tell it was her, she had been mangled so much.
The flashback ended as abruptly as it had come. He let his hands fall away from his ears as he opened his eyes slowly. Looking up, he realized that the flashbacks had only taken a few seconds. Gunter was left with clear, desolate understanding. Anna was not "okay." She wasn't even alive. She had died fighting beside him at the Battle of Berlin under a fake name, and he, the soldier, had lived that day. He even remembered whispering a prayer for her that night in the trench. His hands and jaw clenched in anger. He reached over and tore off one of his armbands, the one that said, "Deutscher Volkssturm Wehrmacht." He stared at it for a second. Then he whispered, hardly audibly, but with terrifying intensity, "Die Volkssturm kann in der Hölle verfaulen." He flung the strip of cloth to the ground. After a moment of thought, he grabbed his other armband to rip it off, but stopped. Overcome with fear, he jerked his hand away from the swastika. "Tut mir sehr leid," he breathed, either to the armband or himself. Then he fixed his gaze back on the ground as if he had been flogged, trying to look as small as possible.

He didn't want to beleive what they were saying, though so far it was the only explanation for it that he could think of. But the most logical answer would be that these people were messing with his head, or that this was a dream. But these people seemed to be just as scared as he was. If it was a dream, he might as well go along with what was happening.
"Ok, nevermind. Let's just figure out what's going on," said Joey, waiting for the rest of the small group to respond.

"If not time travel," Gavin finally offered, "Then what?". He'd thrown out alien abduction earlier, but that seemed to be going in the wrong direction. A collective dream was possible. Some people believe in a combined human awareness. But glancing at Joey and Gunter, Gavin wasn't sure they'd grasp the concept.
Finally out of thoughts, Gavin glanced up at Joey and said, "Have you seen anyone else here?"

" Gunter.. Are you okay?" She asked slowly, trying to keep her voice calm as she glanced up to Gavin and Joey. She listened to their own exchange but kept the main portion of her attention on the obviously distraught young man at her side.

"Ehm, you saw that? It was nothing, just... battle-fatigue, I think." He shook his head, waving his hand in dissmissal of what had just happened. However, an expression of fear flashed across his face. He glanced back at Emory, a thought passing through his mind. An idea of trust. He waved it away. "It was nothing." He lied, nodding confidently. "I apologize." The boy tried desperately to regain his composure, but he soon found this impossible. His composure was off frolicking somewhere without him. So instead he just cleared his throat and stood up abruptly, rudely jumping away from Emory's comforting arm. He tried with difficulty to focus on Gavin and... what was that other guy's name again? Oh, well. He tried to focus, but his brain had gotten so scrambled that he found it incredibly difficult to concentrate on anything. He blinked a few times, shook his head to clear it, and stared at Gavin and the new guy with laser-like intensity, which might have looked a little creepy. But hey! You do what you need to do.

"There was some old man that looked like he was Einstein or something. And then there was another old timey woman, and a little girl," said Joey. "They ran off though." He quickly moved on. "I thought I heard something down the hallway. Some kind of banging." Joey suddenly remembered the whole reason he was going down this hallway. He didn't ask if they wanted to come, because he honestly didn't care. He didn't like these people. All Joey could think was that they were all trying to mess with his head, and he wouldn't allow it.
The banging had stopped, and he didn't know where it was exactly anymore. "Aye! Anyone down there?!" he called out in his usual rude manner.
Ay! Anyone down there?!"
David suddenly heard a loud call from the hallway down, and decided to ignore the angry woman. Maybe the person who called could help him. He dashed around the corner and saw a younger man dressed like he was from Grease or something. "Well, you're definitely not a doctor," said David bummed a bit.

When Gunter finally got his brain to obey him, the conversation between Gavin that other guy seemed to be over already. One of them went down the hallway, shouting. Gunter gave Gavin a confused look and then looked back questioningly at Emory. He quickly looked away, though. He shook his head and followed quickly behind the shouting man, gesturing for Gavin and Emory to follow. This guy just couldn't sit still, it seemed. Once Gunter had caught up with him, he found him facing a well dressed man. This new person had a big red mark on his cheek, like the skin there had been irritated. He seemed dissapointed. He was talking.
'...-finitely not a doctor,' Gunter heard him say to... Joey. That was his name. Gunter looked back and forth between the two men. They were so different. This newcomer must be from another time as well. Unfortunately, it looked like he was from the future. Gunter felt blood flush his cheeks. This man would know everything, too. He would know what Gunter and his comrades had done. It was not the first time that Gunter had been ashamed of his uniform, and he knew it would not be the last. He suddenly wanted to crawl away into a crack, away from the sight of these people. He started to panic although he wasn't sure why. He looked around desperately for an escape, but there was nothing, just barbed wire... all around. These people were stuck here, and if he didn't get out soon, he would be too. He couldn't get caught snooping around. He was supposed to be backing up the defenses... It was another flashback, but he realized it too late, and it wouldn't stop - As Gunter looked at the forms who used to be Gavin, Emory, Joey, and the new one, they changed. They were his 'friends' from the Edelweiss Piraten. They, too were terrified of what they were seeing. He shut his eyes tight, trying to block the camp out, but he couldn't. Not completely. The stench was awful, like burning flesh, and he could hear faint moaning. There were dead or dying people. Everywhere. This was wrong. He didn't care what his superiors said, this was not the answer. He opened his eyes slowly and looked at Adrian, who in this case was the well-dressed stranger.
"Wir müssen aus gehen." He whispered. "Die Wächter abwechselnen. Das ist unser Gelegenheit!"

" Hello," she said politely before rushing the rest of her words. " Who are you?" The raven haired young woman didn't look back at Gunter, her gaze switching from Joey to the newest man, until he began to speak softly beside her. His whispered words were German, his native language, but she didn't understand their meaning. She carefully moved her arm to place it around his shoulders as her stare became concerned.
" Gunter?" Emory asked, her tone soft and caring. " Are you okay?"

"Why are you dressed like that?" he asked, confused a bit. "Was there a fifties convention I missed or something?" Joey rolled his eyes at yet another person that seemed to be from the future.
"Apparently, we've all 'time traveled'," he said time traveled in finger quotations. Joey looked over the man. "So what are you from 2100 or something?"
David laughed a bit nervously. "Uh, no I'm from 2011," he said. "Aren't we all?" David was so confused right now, and he just wanted to get out of here. He was suprised he was still roaming around with other people like this was normal. "Nevermind," he said putting his hand up to his head. "I'm going to go find an exit." He then looked over at Gunter who was huddled down on the ground, muttering german to himself. "Is he okay?"
Joey looked over at him. "Just ignore him. Ay! Get up! You're making a scene." Joey didn't deal with nonsense, and even if he knew Gunter was having a flashback, with Joey's nature, he wouldn't care anyways.

'Gunter? Are you okay?' The boy quickly became aware of Emory's touch on his shoulder again. He flinched slightly and pulled away. She shouldn't touch me, he thought. It might hurt her. "I'm okay." he said coldly. He looked at Joey apologetically and then at the stranger. "I am sorry. I am Gunter Hertz, of th-" He hesitated. "I am Gunter. I am sorry. What are you called?"
