Setting
"You'll have to excuse them, Linde, they're still quite young." Her gaze was fixed on Trent as she spoke, however, only with another sigh did it turn to Sieglinde, and Liese put it rather bluntly as to their reasons for being here, "They're my godchildren."
Linde looked them over. "Of course. But..godchilden, Liese? Who's..who's children are they?" She asked, more than a little curious, and forgetting entirely about what brought her. Who would let her very rough sister near children. Liese wouldn't have encountered many at all sicne she had helped with her as a child!
Oh yes, she was thoroughly thrown off balance.
Adalie, meanwhile, had toddled over to hide behind Liese and stare at this new person. Aunt Redwing knew so many people! This new lady was funny looking, too and seemed sad. She needed flowers and hugs, but Adalie didn't want to hug someone so new to her.
"Hey! Liese, that-" She calmed herself with difficulty. "I'm merely having problems with certain rumors, that I.. I used my body to seduce our Lord, or dabbled in magic of all things! Me!" That was the worst one. To claim that she had used filthy magic to snare Kampf's heart? Of course not!
Instead she simply approached Linde, putting on as best a look of sympathy as she could muster, and placed her hands on her shoulders. Her body? That was hard not to believe, the way Kampf's gaze lingered on her. It made Liese physically ill, and such was no exaggeration. "Only fools would think you a sorcerer, dear."
"Thank you. I suppose I just needed to hear that." She admitted. "I'm not certain that this is all it's cracked up to be. Oh, I know I can't back down now. I'd end up a burden to the family if I did. But..." She sighed and shook her head. "It's just odd what people will say!"
"He is God embodied in man, he understands everything. If you do not wish it..." She sighed again, placing one of her own hands upon the others clad on her arm, both to comfort and to keep them from doing anything more. "Of course, Linde. I'm always here for you."
Trent threw another block, but it hit the door as it clsoed. He immediately pretended he had been starign out the window the entire time.
With a swift movement she brought it crashing to the desktop, striking it to try and alleviate some of the stress that the sudden visit had brought on. She wanted to scream, to cry, to do something, but... what would they think? No, she needed to be strong for them. The blood seeping from her palm splattered in a small pattern on her desk, reaching an inch or two from the fist once she had done such a thing. A lengthy sigh escaped her lips as she let herself fall into her chair.
Damn this. Damn this all.
She looked to the dark with a smile as well, as best of one she could muster in the wake of that indignant bitch of a sister, and nodded after he spoke. "Lady bad." She mused the words quietly, sighing when she had. This had to end, or someone would wind up hurt.
Adalie made a face at this and tried to pinch her brother, but failing at it, lacking the find motor control necessary. The girl huffed at this and shrugged.
"Aunt Redwing loves you both. Not mean."
Trent hugged her too, naturally an affectionate child. He held her close, trying to protect her in his own, toddler version of protection. The boy fully planned on launching an all out assault on Linde, or at least throwing a loud and mean tantrum, next time he saw her.
It was nice to feel appreciated.
Adalie stayed in Redwing's lap and played with the documents on the desk, piling them together, patting them and declaring "Ham Ham!" This was her imitation of someone she apparently say often enough to pretend to be.
Quietly he knelt down beside her, careful not to disturb with any of the equipment or materials that were employed to help her recover, and after a moment or two more of observation he placed his hand on hers, squeezing her fingers lightly as he offered her a soft smile, "I'm back."
"The doctor says I'm almost through the worst of it." She told him, pulling his hand up to her cheek, to nuzzle it, seeking comfort."
