That's Not an Omelette

That's Not an Omelette

a part of “That's Not an Omelette”, a fictional universe by Cienpher.

When a group of friends and neighbors get together, all they had wanted was an omelette. What are they supposed to do with tiny dragons?

Hello - if you saw this roleplay up a moment before and are wondering why it's back up, it is because I love this pet project so much I am staying up late for it and then made a typo in a place. Yeah. So I completely restarted it.

In any case, thank you for your interest in "That's Not an Omelette". If you have any questions about the roleplay, please feel free to ask here in the OOC or shoot me a PM.

As for reservations, please follow the guidelines written on the front page.

Even if the initial line-up is full, in the future I plan to leave the roleplay open for other characters such as modern dragonslayers, mythology enthusiasts, or any other assortment of people who get involved in the main cast's lives, so stay tuned!

Update: Seeing as there's been a surge of interest in this roleplay, I thought I'd clarify what sort of characters would be allowed outside of the main lineup. The following is a list of kinds of roles you could play ordered in how quickly I could get you into the RP. This means that those near the bottom of the list will have to wait longer (but get more time on their character profiles). How long the wait is depends on how quickly the story progresses, so I have no estimate for you guys. Sorry;;

Other Roles
  • Another human that gets involved
    • Could be another neighbor or a friend of a friend, etc.
    • I would very much appreciate a little kid that thinks a child dragon is a human friend
    • I would appreciate it more if they eventually develop a crush
  • Someone who wants to buy/sell the dragons
  • An amateur dragon-slayer
  • A more qualified dragon caretaker with their own dragon
  • An actual full-fledged dragon.

'Ello.

I was wondering if I might be able to reserve Roommate 2 from Room A, 403?

EDIT: "Am I... high? What did you put in that orange juice?"

Also, I'm just going to stick with a simple blue for the speech colour. #336699

Hey! Could I reserve the role of
Room D, 504 Sibling 2; age 7-14 [open] please?

Aaand I'm gonna stick with Quierdo and use a character quote. And also maybe that hole.

"I've been waiting for this my whole life, but I don't think that means I'm ready."

Speech Color: #f98009

Thanks and have a great day!

I've clarified the reservation policy on the front page (my bad), but you're both reserved. Thank you for your interest in the silly baby dragon RP ^^

Hey!

Peeping into the OOC to bring sad news. Due to a scheduling misunderstanding, it will be five days NEXT week that I will be absent, with no way to reply or even read the posts. :'( I've been working out my absence with the wonderful ༼ つ ◕_◕ ༽つ, and we've decided that my character is going on a vacation back to her original home with her mom {step-siblings, don't worry about my sibling} and will be gone for five days. Sorry to miss super amazing story time, I promise I'll read it all when I get back! But don't worry, I'll still be here until Sunday, and back next Saturday afternoon. Free plot twist, I guess. An extra sassy dragon for everyone to deal with, who's most likely just going to mope around and not do anything cause her mom is gone. If there are any problems with my absence please PM me.

Thanks for understanding and have a great day!

-BurningDark

(please don't kick me out I want to stay)

EDIT TO ASK A QUESTION:
How old {what age do they appear} are the dragons' child forms?

Re: That's Not an Omelette

Hey, no problem - if you've already gone and worked out an in-story reason for your absence, all power to you. In exchange, please try to get your dragon profile worked out quickly so that whoever ends up trying to interact with the mopey baby knows what to expect.

Also, that is something I definitely need to clear up, so here it is.

Your dragon children start out as toddlers. At the age of two or so in-story months, they will learn to shapeshift into whatever species they imprinted with, so for your precious little ones, it would be humans! They'd seem only about two or so human years old. However, they're still hatchlings and prone to mistakes, so there might be some mistakes like scales here or pointed ears there or super-sharp baby teeth.

Keep in mind though that they are also dragons and will grow somewhat rapidly. In six more in-story months, they will already seem about five and in a year and a half you'd have full-fledged preteens on your hands. Because of this rapid growth, it's probably best not to get too specific about heights and weights in your character applications.

Also, just for uniformity's sake, for FaceClaims, please use either illustrated pictures (semi-realistic or anime, up to you) or go for a vivid written description instead. This is just a selfish point of mine, since I have extreme difficulty imagining fictional scenes with real people's faces. Sorry if that's an issue for anyone.

Hello all, figured I shouldn't lurk around while I work on my character, so popping in. Preview of my colour/quote:

"I swear I bought chicken eggs."

- The dragonless Room C person. (Code: #5F1149)

He will be a very ... obsessively hands on style person. He cannot watch other people do things like make dinner or shop for him without him helping them. Feel free to poke me about ideas for how your characters view him/have interacted with him. ^^

This of course will backfire pretty hard when he's the only one WITHOUT a dragon and he has no idea how to help with the other people's dragons.
Verdant plains and cold dark night. I have nothing more but silence.

Due to my wonderful sudden ideas, and just in case, I'd like to reserve the position of the hatchling who nearly became a delectable food item in a hot pan? Who was also, correct me if I'm wrong, the first to hatch? I'd just want to make sure, because even though all dragons are very proud, mine's got an ego bigger than the ancient dragons and a superiority complex to reach the high heavens. Just sayin'.

Thanks!

First and eldest of the hatchlings and the origin of the RP name is all yours, BurningDark. Good luck to your human, dealing with that ego, ahaha.

Re: That's Not an Omelette

Thank you. My human has quite the intolerance for people (and dragons) with big egos, so this'll be amusing, at least. And my dragon's got mind magic (and by that, I mean fuzzy visions of the future and ability to slip into people's dreams) so that's not doing wonders for her either.

EDIT: And just for your information, since my dragon is the start of this mess, I was thinking I'd claim the title for my character's quote, who is nearly done. By tomorrow my human will be complete and maybe my dragon too?

All of that's a-okay, but remember mind magic in RP is always a bit tricky - make sure to communicate with other RPers frequently if you plan to have your dragon use it with characters that aren't your own ^^

"Bloody Hell! Where the fuck did you buy these eggs?"

I think all the initial spots are filled but I would love to join if you have room available or if someone wants a sibling or friend who visits often I could rp as them. I would RP as a human who is enrolled in the city's law school and is staying near or in the apartment complex the story revolves around. He would likely be an extroverted partier who loves socializing and has trouble staying in a relationship. He's probably not a responsible enough person to be trusted with his own dragon but he could help take care of other people's with numerous results. Also if there are other supernatural elements suffering from lycanthropy once a month could be part of his character.
PS: I love the concept of the rp. It sounds like it would make a phenomenal supernatural sit-com.

Re: That's Not an Omelette

Ugh, flattery - my only weakness;; Ahaha, but really, thank you for your enthusiastic interest.

(long post ahoy, woo)

I am completely fine with you joining the RP as this character, but I would like you to hold off on joining the posting until the initial cast can find a rhythm. Unfortunately, I don't know how long that will take - it depends on how quickly the posts roll in and the plot progresses, I guess. The plus-side to that is that you'll get some extra time to construct your character and see what the RP is like before you make your final decision. You can submit your character beforehand, and I'll let you know when I think you can join in the fiasco.

As for your character, you can wait and see what kind of people are in Room 403, and if any of them go to an undergrad or grad school that shares your campus, perhaps you'll know each other. Or other RPers, if any of you are interested in being this guy's friend or living-separately-sibling, let me know! Otherwise, you can probably know someone in a different room and knock on the wrong door at the wrong time by accident when the time comes.

Yes, there are other supernatural elements, but I would rather keep them a little distanced from this RP for now, so I'm going to say no to the lycanthropy. With this kind of character, I'd say that they probably know nothing about magic/supernatural creatures actually existing.

(I bet by the end of this roleplay the whole goddamn city just knows about the dragons;;)
