Plot Things

a part of “Storybook: A Grimm World”, a fictional universe by mombie.

(CLOSED TO CS FOR THE TIME BEING) A curse vanquished all fairy-tale creatures from their enchanted realm, and they were banished to Essex, Connecticut with no memory of what happened. That all changes today, for the world of fairytales has awakened in everyone.

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby mombie on Sat Apr 17, 2021 12:03 pm

The Beginning
We will spend the first In-Character day at a Black Tie Charity Auction event. This will allow us to get settled into our characters as they are in their post-Enchanted Realm personas. I am hoping that this will enable us to get to know our characters, relationships, and begin to open up the channel for the slow leak of magic back into their lives.

Things you should keep in mind: This will include a silent auction. If you don't know what that is, it is pretty much when items are placed in a room and everyone signs their names with their prices and so on and so forth. The premise of this auction is that all characters will be compelled to buy a piece from the Enchanted Realm. They won't know why they are so driven to buy it, but they will always raise and eventually end up with the item.

Things to keep in mind for this event
Have an item in mind for your character, whether it's the cracked teacup from Beauty and the Beast or whatever, this item should be personal to the character. I am leaving this up to you, the player, rather than having me pick these things out for you. The magic in these items is the gift of memories. They won't have their magic power (if any) right at that moment, but they give off the faint residue of the user's memories.

That will lead us into day two of the RP.

swan feather quill
lorelei voigt x|x odette, the white swan princess

An antique quill made from a single white swan feather. And while it might look ordinary in nature, the feather is none other than one of Lorelei's own while under the curse of Von Rothbart. The tip of the feather has been painted gold to add a touch of elegance, while the metal of the handle is sterling silver with an old brocade design.

antique black necklace
liesl voigt x|x odile, the black swan princess

An antique silver, diamond and onyx necklace. This particular necklace was imbued with magic that gave Odile the ability to change her appearance to look like the princess Odette. It looks to be quite an old and delicate piece of jewelry worth a substantial amount of money. The pendant is quite large, almost two inches in length and in perfect condition.

medieval bow & quiver
grayson hughes x|x robin hood

An old, hand tanned leather quiver, along with several original arrows. Along with a hand strung, mahogany bow. All the items were said to be created by their user. He caught and skinned the boar for the leather and carved the wood for the arrows and bow. Unlike some of the other items, it's not in pristine condition. It is aged and worn from many years of use. There are small groves from the user's hand and fresher straps of leather that replaced the torn and broken pieces.

antique arabian oil lamp

An authentic, antique golden lamp. This pieces origins are unknown, and while being in pristine condition it looks ancient. This is the vessel that houses the Genie. Whomever is in possession of this item is the master of the Genie. There is no limit to the number of wishes as long as they have the lamp. To summon the Genie you must stroke the side and he will appear in a plume of blue smoke... or so the legend says.

flintlock blunderbuss rifle
adrien duval x|x gaston

An antique, 1700s rifle in mint condition. This belonged to Gaston. And while he also favored a crossbow, this rifle was his favorite weapon when it came to the hunt. He kept it in perfect condition, often polishing and cleaning it at the end of every day. And while it's in working condition, this piece looks to be a show piece only, to be displayed on a mantle in someone's den. It's quite the collector's piece.

Imagea charming comb and mirror set
elena lux | rapunzel

an antique handheld mirror and fine-tooth comb made from brass. the backside of the mirror is adorned with jewels of pink tourmaline and jade, while the front side has one long crack from the top making its way to the bottom. The matching comb has three small jades on the handle, and an elegant flower design cut into the base as well. this set belonged to rapunzel who while locked away in her tower would use it to maintain her long hair. the mirror would be cracked into two pieces of glass by flynn rider when he cut rapunzel's hair to free her from the grasp of mother gothel.

A Preserved Authentic Red Rose in a Glass Dome
Ricardo Trujillo, The Beast
This beautiful red rose was once on its last petal. As the curse swept over the Enchanted Realm, it nearly fell to condemn the Beast to his monstrous form forever. However, once in Essex, the rose regained its glorious bloom and life. The curse within it lies dormant, yet it also preserves its youth. This magnificent flower is on display in a crystalline glass dome that cannot be opened. Up until now, it has been sitting on display at the local Essex Library. The glass, itself, while in great shape, is in need of a serious dusting. Seriously, who did this to the poor rose and why?

Image
A Golden Arabian Princess Jewelry Set with Genuine Sapphire Hairband
Mahin Hassud, Princess Jasmine
Given to her by her father, Princess Jasmine, she wore her golden-plated earrings and necklace with every outfit. Her teal headband is a classic piece that is embedded with an authentic sapphire stone. There is nothing special about these items other than their sentimental value. In Essex, the golden necklace and earrings have actually been seen worn by the Mayor of Essex. Why she's auctioning it off? No one knows. The headband has been in the pawnshop mistaken for costume jewelry.

Image
A Cane with Oak Shaft and Silver/Gold Collar and Vibrant Violet Globe
Dumaine LeRoux, Shadowman
Dr. Facilier always had his cane by his side. It was a showpiece, weapon, or - at times - a tool of sorts. It has never had any special powers of its own. This piece was unfounded in Essex, so its origins before the auction are unclear. It seems to be in good condition.

Image
An Empty Leather Satchel
John Carpenter, Flynn Rider
There is truly nothing significant about this satchel. It's empty and worn. There's no reason for it to be at an auction, yet here it is, and it's just odd.

Image
A Silver Lion and Rose Handheld Mirror
Paisley Lawrence, Belle
A handheld mirror in sparking silver with a crystal clear mirror. There appear to be some light scratches on the edges, and the lion's nose is chipped just barely. It's also very heavy. It has a more archaic appearance, and it's clearly not from this era. It's just an antique piece that could have belonged to anyone.

Antique Pocketwatch
Ben Thompson | Captain Hook

A valuable tool, and in decent working condition. Hook used to carry this, long before tick tock croc took his hand and started stalking him. For it's age, it's in remarkable condition, and while it's not currently running it could probably be fixed up to working condition if put in the hands of someone who knew what they were doing.

Gold Wedding Band
Hugo Lund | Prince Charming

Prince Charming's whole thing was marrying the girl, making her a princess, all of that. This band was made for him out of the purest and finest gold especially for their wedding. It's a nice ring, nothing overly special or anything, but it is a little weird that it would be up for auction in the first place.

old hunting knife
john waldmann x|x the huntsman, snow white

An old hunting knife that has been passed down through the huntsman's family for generations. It is deadly sharp and has been well maintained despite how old it is. There is a rumor that the knife had been enchanted but the legitimacy of that tale has never been confirmed. It was the knife the huntsman was going to kill Snow White with before he stayed his hand.

ImageImagered hooded cloak
Rowan Renou | Little Red Riding Hood

A red hooded cloak, small in size, as though made for a young child. The name 'Rose' is stitched into the inner hood in clumsy white italics. It has retained its vivid colour, but there are definite marks of wear and tear, and at the collar, the fabric is torn, and dark stains dapple the area, turning the red fabric even deeper so. The cloak once belonged to Rose; a gift handmade by her beloved grandmother. The little girl had worn it every day, and managed never to tear or stain it- that is, until the day the Wolf tore her claws through it, and through Rose as well, leaving the collar torn and Rose's own blood stained into the fabric.

ImageImageImageaxe
Gabriel Zagré | Jack

An old ax, unassuming and inexpensive, it is clearly worn from use. The ax once belonged to the Spriggins family, and was often used to chop wood in the forest near their home, which they would then take to sell for firewood at the local markets. However, its greatest moment occurred in the hands of a young Jack Spriggins, when the sixteen year old chopped down the mighty beanstalk, sending a murderously vengeful giant falling from the sky.

ImageImageImagepair of ballet slippers
Lene Kim | Hilarion, the Snow Queen

A pair of battered blue ballet slippers- the subject of much darning and repairing, the soles are worn to the point that they would be unfit to dance in even if they weren't centuries old. They were Hilarion's first pair of slippers that she ever owned, a gift given to her by her beloved Giselle when they were both about sixteen. Before then, she had always borrowed Giselle's own slippers, despite the discomfort, for she did not have the wealth for such a 'frivolous' expense. She lost them when she 'died'.

ImageImageparing knife
Natalya Volkov | The Big Bad Wolf

A simple paring knife, seldom sharpened, and relatively blunt to the touch as a result. The handle is hand-carved, though not especially well, and there is no particularly notable artistry that would warrant the knife standing out among any other blade or piece of cutlery. However, few other weapons can claim to have pierced the body of the Wolf, as this one did, over a decade ago, when a little girl in a red hood plunged it into her eye. The wound may have healed, but the Wolf can swear the vision in her right eye was never quite the same.

Antique Thimble
Olive Fitzgeraldx|xWendy Darling

A very old and well taken care of silver thimble with engravings on the side. This once belonged as part of a 1920s sewing kit. The name Wendy is engraved on the inside of the thimble but has been incredibly worn that it is barely legible. This thimble could still be used in day-to-day sewing or could simply be a collector's item on your shelf.

Green Hat
Liana Rothx|xPrincess Snow White

This hat is carefully crafted in green and meant to be durable in various weather. It has been used in acts of camouflage and once belonged to a man that sought out justice everywhere he turned. This hat has a feather sticking out of it, probably similar to a robin's feather. This hat can be put on display or it could be worn by the person who receives it.

The King's Blade
minerva moreaux|x maid marian

Dated all the way back to the Crusades, this antique dagger was said to once to belong to a member of the British royal family. It is unclear who, but historians say that it must've been forged as a gift to a loved one. There's an inscription written on the blade that says, "To my Marian, may you never back down from a fight." It's made of high carbon steel with a peened pommel decorated with fittings and a grip wrapped tightly in genuine leather. Its scabbard is made the same way, and are beautifully paired, giving it a classic and masculine beauty.

What historians don't know is that this dagger belonged to Maid Marian of Nottingham and was given to her as a gift by King Richard himself. He has it specially made for her before he left for the war as a token of his affection. He had it inscribed so she wouldn't ever let that fire in her heart die, no matter what may have happened to him in the war.

Pan's Flute
peter llewelynx|x peter pan

There's a lot of suspicion surrounding this particular artifact. This musical instrument is over four centuries old according to the fibers of the twine holding the wooden pipes together. Legend goes that whosoever plays this instrument will become cursed and their sons will one day disappear in the middle of the night, never to be seen or heard from again. Children are mystified by this instrument, and whenever they hear it played they're filled with joy and wonder, imagining a world with mermaids, pirates, and never having to grow up

Celtic Bow
rhiannon o'connorx|x merida

Said to be find in the Isles of Scotland, this bow has intricate designs hand-carved into the wood, as well as a silver medallion engraved with - what historians assume is - a family crest attached to the tip of the upper limb [shown above]. This weapon was found without a quiver or arrows but, considering the condition of the wood, it's believed to have a matching set somewhere in its place of origin.

Something to Think About

The purpose of Day One was to kind of settle into our characters and give ourselves some time to cement things. As we start to slip into thinking about Days two and three of the roleplay, it will be best to figure out a few things about your Enchanted Realm characters and their lives. A few questions to ponder:

How was your hero/villain roped into the war being waged across the Enchanted Realm?
You can go about this a few ways! One, you can tie a villain NPC from your character's story into Jafar's wicked plans, and bam - that ropes your character and their slice of land into it. You can also have your character entwined with another character and do it that way. Or maybe the princesses created a rag-tag band of militia and became war princesses to battle for the realm. Either way, there has to be something. If any of that makes any sense.

Where were your characters the moment they were ejected from the realm? What were they doing?
Jafar was using the Genie to create the Curse alongside Nora. Nora created part of the Curse that remains in the Enchanted Realm causing it to wither away. How much does your character know? This may have a lot to do with how close your relationships are to the main villains.

Finish your Essex relationships. They don't have to know everyone, but you should have a general idea of who they know and blah blah blah.

Keep in mind we probably still have a couple of weeks to go before the real mess kicks in, and I probably haven't covered everything we will need, so no rush! Just things to think about for the future. :)
