Hi.
Well, I only just joined, because I was bored I guess.
Hm, well I don't really know what to say, so I'm just going to ramble for a bit.
First things first. My name's Eleanor. Call me that or my username, or whatever else you can think of. I don't mind.
I'm Australian and I'm a total geek. (And apparently a total hippy too -shot-)
I've been roleplaying for a few years now, but I've been writing stories for as long as I can remember.
Actually, a while ago, I re-discovered a story which I had written in grade one or so. Anyway, it was about a little girl who sat in a tower being bored and lonely. She escaped one day and ran through a forest, only to be captured by a dragon.
And I don't remember what happened next. Someone probably killed it. It was a few pages long.
I called it 'The Lonely Girl and the Dragon'. So original right?
That's the earliest story I've written and have record of. I don't even remember writing it.
In grade four, I managed to piss off my entire class. I wrote a story for an assignment and was the only person to get 100%. Actually, I was the only one to get over 85%.
On the subject of roleplays, I enjoy horror, fantasy, prehistoric and action. Preferably with gore. I'm no good at romance, and I can't do comedic unless it's with people that I know well.
I've been growing somewhat tired of wolf, shapeshifter and vampire roleplays.
Don't get me wrong. I absolutely love all of them. Vampires, I've loved since I was a child. REAL vampires that ripped out people's throats and burst into flames in the sun. The idea of shapeshifting has always intrigued me. Especially werewolves/lycanthropes. Shapeshifters, in my eyes, should take a while to shift as their bones bend and change shape, probably in very painful ways. Wolves have always been my favorite animals. Always. And I hope to work with them when I'm older.
It's just that those roleplays have gotten so common that it's taken the fun out of it.
I don't usually like roleplays with lots and lots of packs or too many people, as I find it becomes confusing and complicated. I like roleplays with a few people, in one group.
I've always been somewhat distanced from people, immersing myself in games and literature.
It started to get worse over the last year or so. I stopped talking to everyone in person, except for about four trusted friends.
I've always been the 'freak', or 'weirdo'.
Other little girls played with barbies, and I played with dinosaurs.
They went shopping, and I stayed home playing violent video games.
They wore bright colours and makeup, and I wore black and eyeliner.
It never really got to me much before, but now I just can't be bothered putting up with constant insults.
It has a lot to do with parents divorcing, abuse at school, a poor family and just antisociality.
It's still getting worse now as I may be moving to the other side of the world, where I will have to make new friends.
I'm horrible at making friends.
Either I don't say anything and they assume I'm rude.
Or I say something that upsets them and I don't even realize.
People are confusing. I'd much rather spend my time with animals. They don't judge like people do.
On the topic of animals, I'm vegetarian, and thinking about going vegan. I have a few pets. Fish, and aviary with finches, canaries and quails, two cats, a dog, a rabbit and a chicken. I couldn't bear to part with any of them. They help me relax. I've worked on a farm with chickens, cattle and sheep, and I've always wanted to have my own farm.
It would be nice to get out of civilization and just relax in the country. It would be nice and quiet. And I could see the stars.
I apologize for the long post. My introduction managed to turn into a ramble-fest blog.

Hello Eleanor (did you know that the exact etymology of your name is of disputed origin and may mean "the other" or "healing", or possible something else altogether?), and welcome to Roleplay Gateway!

It looks like I have the unique honor of being the very first greeter to welcome you to our humble abode here at Roleplay Gateway! :D My name is Ylanne (it makes a spiffy username too! --> ), and I am the site's resident crime writer. I'm also an editor (so feel free to ask me about publishing and the process if that's something you're interested) and part-time teacher. I'm always around, so you should feel free to drop me a line if you have any questions, problems, suggestions, or requests in regards to the site, your roleplaying, and/or your writing. I would be happy to help you in any way I can, in any way necessary or desired. I respond to all queries within 24 hours. Because you are new to this site, I highly encourage you to take advantage of this opportunity. (Other people to seek help from: Dark blue usernames denote mentors, green usernames denote moderators, and red usernames denote administrators).

You seem like an amazing person, the kind of girl I can get along with just fine. Some of what you describe and the way you write suggests you might be an Aspie? Whether it's true or not, your post screams pure awesome (though I do sympathize with being unable to relate to others, and people hating you for no good reason at all, as unfortunate as it is). I would be honored to roleplay with you. As far as roleplay preferences go, I prefer modern/realistic roleplay (especially related to topics like crime and such), and especially character-driven stories (basically literary work), but am open to almost anything. Over the past few months, I have been experimenting with genres like fantasy and science-fiction, so if you have a good story idea, let me know. My current preference for mode of roleplay is text-based roleplay, or what we do here. I've also begun to participate in text-based fighting, which I found surprisingly interesting and compelling. (And LARP is the first kind of roleplay I've ever done, and it still remains my favorite! :D ).

If you're ever interested in private roleplay, just drop me a line anytime. Also feel free to check out the links in my signature. The folks round here are great people and great roleplayers, so if nothing I have posted is of interest, for one hundred percent sure, something someone else has posted will be. You can find practically everything here that you've ever imagined or could want to write, read, or roleplay - and if you for some crazy reason you don't see it, feel free to create it. We encourage creativity - it's the reason the site exists. Other than Eric (our founder) having way too much free time on his hands!

To shamelessly advertise my own roleplays, you should check out my newest roleplay, When the Lion Wakes, which is my typical modern/realistic setting, and is a character-driven story about crime and terrorism. We already started the IC thread, but are still accepting characters through September 2010. (We're looking for terrorist, FBI agent, and CIA agent characters, but other characters are also welcome; all characters are original characters created by their writers.) This one asks for a minimum of one post every two weeks (more is accepted, of course, and less is permitted with discussion with myself). I know it's a very large group of people, but we use the OOC for discussion, and we post very seldomly (though we are active), so you might be surprised and you might enjoy joining.

Be sure to take a look at the site rules. There are only five of them, but they're all integral to the continued success of this community. Members on this site use the forums, the chat system, and the Roleplay Tab system for roleplaying. For help with the Roleplay Tab system, which is unique to our site, you might want to look at this user written guide. By the way, my reference guide, Ylanne's Guide to Roleplay Terminology includes not only general roleplaying terms (useful for those new to roleplaying altogether), but also a number of terms used specifically on this site (useful for anyone new to this site, or anyone acclimated to slightly different terminology).

And once again, welcome! I hope to see you more often around the forums. If you need anything or have any other questions, please don't hesitate to ask.

Blessings and peace,
Ylanne

Hey there, lament, and welcome to RolePlayGateway, where I'm sure you'll find many of the roleplays you said that you liked and many people just like you (or perhaps complete opposites). The community here is mostly warm and welcoming, and I'm certain that over the time that you remain at RPG, you'll find great roleplay partners, life-long friends and fond memories to look back on. As far as I see it, this site is not only for roleplay, but it's a brilliant place to meet people of similar tastes, nice dispositions and likewise personalities.

As with all of the new members I welcome, I would like to direct you to some of the following links that you may find useful. First of all, I ask you to read the RolePlayGateway Official Rules. There are only five of them, and as long as you take these rules into consideration when using both the forum and the chatrooms, you'll get along fine with the community here. As just mentioned, we have both forum RPs and Chat RPs. If you have any problems within the forums or when using them, here are the RolePlayGateway Help Forums, where you are invited to make a post should you encounter difficulties on the site. As with the forums, we also have a RolePlayGateway Chat Guide that you can read to educate yourself on our Chat facility.

Along with technical help, there is also the RolePlayGateway Academy, which is there for your use if you require any form of assistance in your roleplaying skills and styles.

Finally, there may be times when you need to talk to a member of staff. Here is a list of the RolePlayGateway Team, complete with member names, their role in RPG and where you can find them (or you can click their names and PM them from their userpage).

I hope you enjoy your time here

Hey there lament~

You know what? I love animals too. I rather be with them than people, so I totally understand what you said about them not judging and whatnot. I feel the same way :O
(16:12:43) Prose says: Izzy does anything she can get her hands on.
(16:12:54) Namaru says: My god Xorn and Prose you guys totally did a bunch of crazy things, I'm sure
(16:12:54) Prose says: Coke, meth, heroine, crack, pot.
(16:13:06) Prose says: Oh that was really bad timing.
