The species I had created several years are called Waterpician. They are flesh and blood now but before assuming physical form their classification was alumus. A higher dimensional being who can manipulate reality to an extent with their 3D form being a lattice of photonic energy, an exotic higher-dimensional particle and raw positive emotion in it manifested form.

That fits perfect because the dream scape will have different layers that are all very different but still have the basic characteristics of a labyrinth to trap people in so they become food for the inhabitance that progressively more and more violent the deeper into the dreamscape you get.

One more thing they can arrange their energy body into matter based form but for alumnus who don't fully give up their pure energy form can only keep that matter form short periods of time.
