I'm looking for a couple of beta readers who can give me general feedback and suggestions for improvement on the first story I've written for publication. What do you love? What do you hate? Where is it slow? Where is it confusing? No need to do detailed editing or proofreading. My ideal beta reader for this story loves Ray Bradbury and Octavia Butler. I'd like to have the final version completed and in the hands of publishers within a month. I have pretty thick skin, so be honest. If you have suggestions for a title, that would be outstanding.
Synopsis: Velkis is a gladiator who was forced into retirement by age and a debilitating wound. He started a new life near a remote settlement in a wilderness that was inhabited by a wild variety of half-demon races until 150 years ago when they were driven over a high mountain range known as the Dragon Spine. He has begun to resign himself to the peaceful and boring life of a middle-aged craftsman when one of his few friends in the village of Sudervarit is brutally murdered. Determined to protect his friend's widow and children, Velkis dons his old armor and sets a trap for whomever--or whatever--is threatening his new home.
