βAre you going to sit there teasing me all night senor? You told me you had a tale to tell? I trust this one is not tall, like most other ones I come across.β A one Mr. Captain Arturo leaned in closer, demanding with his thick Spanish accent to be told what he had come here to find out; because him and his βold friendβ had been exchanging unnecessary pleasantries for a good five minutes.
βAlways taβthe point I see, jusβ like a Spaniard.β Arturo stopped himself from rolling his eyes at his friendβs comment; thinking that to be a Spaniard was must better than being some stinky old Englishman with his pants half falling down all the time, at least he, the Spaniard, had some measure of decorum and style. Ah, but this age old conflict between countries was not the main focus tonight, because no matter what language you spoke back home; everyone knew how to speak the language of gold. βSo like I was sayβin, those rumors about Captain Kidd havinβ that map, they be true as the lashes on me back.β Arturoβs informantβs voice became lower, causing Arturo to lean in ever more, until he had finished, and Arturo slumped back, aghast.
βYou know I do not believe in such things! If he was so inclined as to have a map to this place, a place conveniently made of gold, he would not let such information get out! His entire ship would be bombarded with-β A man interrupted ever so rudely by smashing into their table, slumping over the top and knocking over their drinks, Arturo sighed and the two of themknockedhelped the man off of the table top to resume in what peace they could in a bar at Tortuga. βAye, he would, but ye see, a secret like that ainβt so easy to keep, βspecially when yer men arenβt inclined to stay aboard.β Arturoβs eyes narrowed at his companion, for he had a sneaking suspicion.
βSo Arturo, you know what you be missinβ, them facts and figures of yours.β Arturo nodded, folding his hands on the desk as his companion brought out a map and laid it out. Arturo eagerly, despite having said he was not interested, leaned forward and examined it. βThis is a simple regular mapβ¦β
βOf course it be Arturo! Donβt yah listen to the talk about yer? The actual map was aβtakinβ byβ¦β He looked right and left, and did the cross over his chest. βMermaids Arturo, they got the map now.β He whispered, as if simply saying the name βmermaidβ would get him eaten. Arturo really did roll his eyes this time, and the stinky Englishman spat on the floor in anger. βDamnit Arturo, they be real whether you like it er not. Captain Kidd sailed into the pass here, and went in with two ships, he came back with only one Arto, only one. I would know, I was on the one that made it!β
Arturo was now deep in thought, he spoke slowly, βI am not sure I still believe it, but whether or not I do, I must go in prepared. And I have a plan already I think!β His English friend seemed confused, but satisfied with his answer, he hadnβt known that he had Arturoβs interest the whole time; simply that Arturo was playing him for more information, mainly how it was that Captain Kidd went about charging mystic waters. Which until now had never been clarified as mystic waters; funny how quickly things acquired legends and names around the Privateer world.
βBy this time in a fortnight, we will be on our way to El Dorado.β He rose suddenly and clapped loudly, several men dropped what they were doing, or who they were doing really, and trailed quickly behind their Captain. He left with the ring of a hum on his voice, he was always in a good mood when he had a clever plan.
It has been nearly two centuries since El Dorado has even been considered in the minds of adventurers, be they King ordered or Privateers. But something like an entire city of Gold is too much to stay hidden forever, and a one Captain Kidd in some way comes aross a map. He sails on to his target with two ships, none the wiser of his goal. He makes it to a certain point, and has to come back, this time with only one bloodied ship full of scared Privateers. One of the Privateers's number, or all of them really, leak out what happened in bits of information, creating the rumor of having been robbed by women of the sea, the beautiful maids in the ocean, Mermaids. They eat a man's flesh and lure him in with her 'womanly whiles', singing a song to disarm you. According to sources, they have the map.
Your Captain Arturo, Captain of the Heart of Oak, wants that map, and as a part of his crew, you're going to help him aquire it. Riches beyond your wildest dreams await you as a prize, and you'll be able to buy out a country and its King ten times over. That is, if you aren't eaten by Mermaids before you get there. But don't worry, Your Captain has a plan, only, it is a slight bit suicidal. But what's suicide compared to El Dorado, any Privateer would commit Suicide for such a prize.
As strange as it may sound, I want this to be REALISTIC. Or about as realistic as it can get when involving El Dorado and Mermiads, meaning things won't be accepted as 'just cause'. I will give proper explainations and notes in the information about the mermaids tab that are fit for a science lab. And you, as creators of your very own Pirate character, are going to be realistic according to what they are there for, how they act, and what they do. No supermans, no demons, no Jerry Springer. That does not mean I want the same generic character from everyone, but please make things realistic here. This rp will be highly character driven once we get going on the goal.
First things first, on a Pirate ship, everyone fights if they are boarded or are boarding someone else's ship. So you can't have a character who is only there for the combat, not how it worked back then, not how it will work in the rp. Positions on the ship are needed to keep the ship afloat, and to make her sail in the direction she needs to go, Pirates are sailors who know how to rough and tumble, not the other way around. ;)
The Positions are listed and explained in the sing-up thread, however please note that any and all questions go to the ooc, don't post in the other threads please.
- This is a literate rp only, if you can't produce three paragraphs comfortably and have them be of quality befitting a mature writer, then this rp is not for you. I will have other rps that you may join, but this is not one of them. If you want help with your writing ability, contact me and I will be more than willing to help you out.
- I know I said this before, but me saying it again stresses the necessity, I want this to be realistic. This is taking place in the 1700's, and therefore you need to have a certain amount of knowledge pertaining to that time period. How people dressed, how they were expected to act, how they acted anyway, how women were treated etc. Female Pirates like Anne Bonny and Mary Read did exist, however they were disguised as a man when starting out. If you wish to play a female Pirate, which I will at MAX accept two, then your profile needs to be very convincing and well written. I can tell you this, I will not accept long legged beauties who look like a girl anyway.
- Read through everything I have had set up before making a character, the information set up is important, don't skip over it. That One Guy worked really hard to set this up for you, so show some respect and read through it.
- Once accepted, huzzah! You are now an influential voice in the going ons of the rp, and you will be listened to when we hash out certain events that we will want to take place. In order to make this fair, please do not ignore others in posts or in the ooc, we all want to feel heard.
