It is a curious thing, how I see beauty in death rather than life.
The stillness of a body,
skin translucent with colorful veins seemingly floating to the surface.
The whisper of a last breath,
the vivid red of blood like roses pooling around them.
Yes, death is beautiful.

Or perhaps I am simply jealous?

ImageAs children we romanticized the idea of magic; making moving pictures painted with beautiful fairies and exquisite beings influenced by the colorful illustrations depicted in history books. Witches were wicked, they said, wizards would enchant girls into falling in love with them and then eat their hearts. The movies twisted these stories, selling the idea that with a few magic words and the wave of a wand, one could change their fate entirely. Such ideas weren't foreign, the wealthy had always had the resources to pour their efforts into searching for spells that could grant eternal life or cure ailments that the poor suffered from day in day out. Witches they called them and the old families suffered, burning at the stake, at the hands of the very ones who had so romanticized the idea off magic. In order to protect themselves, the wealthy hid their abilities. They used their magic in only the most subtle of ways to keep themselves in power, passing down their secrets from generation to generation. They lived in constant fear of being discovered and persecuted and so, using their influence, they built a wall to separate the wealthy from the common people.

ImageWhat became of the rest of humanity? Without the use of spells to keep them youthful, they used technology and science, developing medicines that were regulated by the government and using the internet for just about everything. They made strides in their advancements, protecting their territories with large robots that could be operated via a pair of humans. The more advanced they grew, the less of a need for magic there was. People once more, began to fear magic, they thought witches to be demons hiding in the bodies of their loved ones. After all, their abilities had no place in this world. Their very existence became illegal. In some cases, they were seen as sick and in need of healing. Others saw them as nothing more than trophies that could be exchanged for necessary resources. As the world continued down the road of supposed advancement; those with the old gifts of magic continued to hide in plain sight, disguising themselves as normal humans. To prove that they were not evil, that magic was not to be feared, one girl took upon the burden of taking up a name to fight against evil on her own, perhaps with the occasional assistance of her trusty servant.

☞ All of the content in this RP is original, from layout to bio sheet. I made everything from scratch and it was a painstakingly slow process. If it resembles any of your work I'm sorry, but I have three people who can attest to the fact that I have only gone between the same two tabs and one of them was youtube. ☜

☞ If you're thinking of joining purely to alleviate temporary boredom and have no plans to finish your character or ever reply DO NOT JOIN. If I know you to be one of those people I will reject your reservation through PM. ☜

☞ Congratulations on making it to the first password! Please name me one song from the Imagine Dragons, Smoke and Mirrors album. ☜

☞ Proper grammar, spelling, and proofreading is required at all times. If English is not your first language that's fine, simply do your best and don't forget to proofread. ☜

☞ Anime face claims only, I apologize to those who don't watch anime or are simply pissed off by the fact that I don't like real face claims. If you need help finding one I suggest Tumblr, animecharacterdatabase, or simply PMing me with a description of what you want them to look like. ☜

☞ As far as species goes you have two options. You can either choose from the list above, or provide your own. This brings me to the second part of the password! State your species and the role you'd like to reserve in the OOC along with your face claim. ☜

☞ Again if you have no intention of ever replying, DO NOT JOIN. There is a minimum of two replies per week. If you can't do it, please PM me as to why. If you can or if you'd like to reply more frequently, that's great! ☜

☞ No Mary Sues, Gary Stues, over powering characters, perfect persons, or God Modding. ☜

☞ You must submit your WIP within 48 hours, if you are a no show after that I will give away your spot. Once your WIP is submitted you have five days to finish. ☜

☞ You will receive three warnings if you do anything to upset the balance. Once you strike three you're out and your character will be eaten as the vampire's next feast or will become the hunter's next kill without warning. Thank you for your sacrifice. ☜

☞ If you simply disappear without warning and find that I've killed off your character, please PM me as to why you were gone. If you have a good enough reason then we can discuss something. If you reply with, "I didn't feel like replying for a whole two weeks." I won't bother responding to your PM. ☜

☞ Plot will be discussed in the OOC. There are a few main points I will outline. Most of the characters will already know each other, but you won't be required to fill out a Character Relationship sheet. It is optional although highly recommended. ☜

The core of Erika's being was a sense of competence. The ability to either perform a task as well as you possibly can, or to know that you can't and pass the task to someone who is able to do such a thing. Incompetence could always be avoided, and as such, it irritated her when something wasn't done right. So for every time she messed up on a note, or every time she took too small or too big a step according to the choreography, she wanted to burn her hand with a fire poker as punishment. For Seraphina who was performing so excellently, Erika felt like a shabby knock off version of what a flutist should be.

"You were so good! I'm feeling so hot right now." Sera wiggled, parting her lips teasingly at her lover. Erika was staring coldly at her hands, wondering why she was such a failure. She had performed awfully. "No, I was terrible. I made so many mistakes." Sera snickered and stretched her tired fingers. "Oh, you mean those times I mistimed something or whatever? Yeah, my bad! I'll do better next time, okay?" The flutist stared at the pianist and her twin tails swung as she shook her head, now backstage. "I hardly noticed any errors on your end." Sera went in for the kiss right then and there, locking their fingers together into one small perfect puzzle just for them. "And I didn't notice any of yours! Do I really need to remind you every time, Rika? We're always our own harshest critic. I bet none of them noticed - or if they did, they thought it was just your own interpretation of the song." Erika laughed, no longer feeling like a failure. Sera was always able to bring levity back to her. "One kiss, but then we should go meet the others."

One kiss later, the two performers returned to meet with the rest of their party. Julian gave them enthusiastic applause. "You two were the best! I almost cried in the end, isn't that great?" Clover, too, was bursting with praise. "I saw it." Eamon whispered into Erika's ear. "You screwed up a few steps in your dance. Next time do it perfectly so my outfit gets displayed to it's best." Erika nodded and shot Sera an 'I-told-you-so' look. The redhead grinned and stuck her tongue out, returning with a 'I-think-you're-hot-anyways' smile. They returned to the theater for results. The penultimate one, the sponsored boy, earned his second. He looked very happy with that score. And of course, Erika and Sera got their first place, as they almost always did.

Once the closing ceremony ended, Erika noticed something. She nudged Clover and pointed at the familiar figure seated around the middle. Maple was here, no doubt babysitting little Jarvan for this outing. "It's Maple." The Master whispered for her pet to hear. It had been a while since they had seen each other last. "Do you want to go and say hi?"

Clover was not surprised that her Master earned first place, Erika was, after all, the best flutist that Min City had ever seen, or at least, in Clover's opinion she was. Of course, Clover had only seen humans perform in this very hall, she hadn't ever heard music until she had encountered Erika, so it only made sense that Clover would think no one could compare to what her Master could do. "Clover thinks Master earned it," the kitten nodded her head, wondering what would happen now that her performance was done. Would they perform at more contests? Would they continue to rise to the top? What happened when you were at the top and no one stood in your way? Did you receive scritches?

She was broken from her thoughts when Erika pointed out Maple, who was rising from her seat to no doubt attend to her human. Clover nodded, she wanted to say hello. The kitten bound over to her sister, waving. "Maple!" Maple turned upon hearing her name, beaming when she saw her sister. "Clover!" The two kittens tripped when they were close, knocking into each other, but managing to steady one another. "Clover is so happy to see Maple again!" Maple nodded, she was grinning as well. "It's so good to see you again Clover!" She lifted up Clover's pigtails, tugging on them slightly. "Wow, it's so long!" Clover nodded, noting Maple's tan skin. "Maple is olive!" Maple giggled, "my Master likes to spend a lot of time outside."

"Clover is glad that Maple is alright," Maple nodded, taking Clover's wrist and gently peeling one of the gloves off. "Clover, what is this?" She had noticed the bandages peeking out from underneath. Clover snatched her glove back quickly, shoving it on her hand. "Accident, it was Clover's fault." The kitten scratched her cheek and looked away, she had always been a terrible liar. Maple sighed, shaking her head; for now she would let it pass, but if she saw another injury on her sister there would be hell to pay. "I saw Erika perform, she was so good, she deserved first place." Maple nodded enthusiastically, "Master Erika is the best flute player!" Maple giggled, her ward coughing behind her.

"I have to go, but I'll find a way to see you again." Maple said, patting Clover's head. The two sisters embraced once more before Clover bound back off to her Master, the kitten's tail swishing eagerly. "Clover is happy to see Maple again," Maple looked as though she were well fed and taken care of. "But Clover is much happier to go home with Master Erika," although it did appear that Maple had a lot of freedom, she could go outside whenever she wanted and probably didn't have to make beds and do laundry like Clover did.

It was almost night time. Erika was waiting in her room for Clover to come so that they could go on patrol. Today was a serious matter. Shortly after they left the Concert Hall, it became known as Harvey Bernard began calling the noble houses. "Won't someone please help? My son and his servant, they've gone missing! The only trace is a mysterious black car, please, please save them!" But there was no trace of the black car that had supposedly kidnapped them. There was only one thing to do, but little did she know, someone was slowing Clover down. It was Eamon, blocking the way up the stairs. "Just so you know, I'm still not convinced you're strong enough yet, Clover." He told her. His eyes didn't hold hostility, but nevertheless, the twin brother was not being friendly.

"I put up with you and accept you being here, because you make her happy." He was willing to give her that much at least. But still, there was something in the way between them burying the hatchet. "Despite that, I still can't fully accept you. Erika... you know how she is. She'll put herself in danger, and with how strong she is, plenty of, well, bad people will no doubt try to go after her." He bit his lip, looking down at himself in what seemed to be a mix between frustration and self hatred. "I hate myself. I'm weak, my mana was only enough to summon Fiyero. I can't cast spells or fight. I can't protect her." For some reason the brother was opening up to the cat he so disliked. Was there something he wanted her know? "You're her servant... so you have to keep her safe. I don't know what you can do, but... just..." He groaned, stomping away. The point was clear, there was no need to finish the speech.

Once that was done, Erika glanced at Clover, determination in her eyes. She was furious, this kind of anger was rare but it had come up again. It was the fury of someone who wanted to take someone down. "Clover." She held her arm out in invitation. "Ready?" They melted into shadows, twisting and turning through the city streets until finally they arrived at their favorite location. It was here, the Wall of Glory, the defining monument of Min City. "You know what to do. You should know your sister's scent more than anyone." This was going to be complicated, though. She had a feeling the Watchman was on patrol as well. Jarvan was a mage, and the Watchman clearly had it in him to protect mages, didn't he?

"I'm sorry I wasn't able to stop this from happening." This was her fault, wasn't it? For a prodigy, she sure didn't use her powers enough. With great power comes great responsibility, everyone knew that. "If I wasn't afraid of keeping this a secret, I could have chased them right away. But we had to wait until night... and we don't even know if they're alive anymore." Kidnappers. Traffickers. Some of the worst scum of humanity. Yet... no matter how naive this was, even they deserved a chance to show that they could reform.

But if they were to die at the Watchman's hands, the Blue Lotus would not bat an eye.

Clover was helping clear the table when Harvey Bernard ran in. "She's like a different cat," Belle observed as she picked up a plate, toting it to the kitchen. "I don't know what Cookie did," Marie admired, "but it worked." Clover hummed to herself, the tune she had heard Erika play as the door opened and Rosemary greeted the man. The kitten froze, recognizing him as Maple's owner. What was he doing here? What was going on? She listened to him speak, her stomach feeling as though it had a million fluttering bugs in it. Not butterflies, those were pleasant fluttery bugs. The kitten turned in the opposite direction, bolting up the stairs. She nearly crashed into Eamon, who gave Clover pause.

"Clover will protect Master at all costs," she swore, bounding the rest of the way up the steps. Her wrist still throbbed from the memory of him grabbing it so hard it had bruised. At least he moved out of the way, allowing her to clamber the rest of the way up. "Clover will help find Maple," she didn't care about the little boy, her sister was her top priority. She dove into the closet, retrieving a new prototype of her super suit since the last one had been torn beyond repair. She was worried of course, considering how cruel humans could be. Clover hung onto Erika as they were transported to the wall; she would know Maple's scent anywhere and so the kitten began to sniff the air, attempting to catch her smell.

She turned towards her Master, who apologized. "It is not Master's fault," Clover replied, turning back towards the night sky. "Master has to protect herself," her nose twitched, she found it. "There," Clover pointed towards the fishing district on the poor side of the wall. No doubt they were hiding in some shoddy fishing warehouse. She licked her lips hungrily, the thought of seafood making her hungry. This wasn't the time for food thoughts! Clover had to find Maple! Before the humans hurt her! The kitten hung onto Erika, closing her eyes as they traveled through the shadows and landed just outside of the fishing district. Clover sniffed the air, just barely catching a whisper of her sister's scent.

The heavy fish smell was making it hard to find her and the kitten got turned around quite a few times trying to lead Erika to the right place, but eventually, they made it to a large metal building, nondescript black vehicles parked just outside. "In here," Clover whispered, her tail flickering eagerly. In there was Maple and hopefully her ward.

Up atop the Wall of Glory, the Blue Lotus stood, hood up as she waited for Clover's nose. Was she getting lazy, relying on that nose? Or was it just more efficient than hopping around shadows in hopes of finding crime to stop? Perhaps it was a bit of both, but it couldn't be denied just how convenient having a crime fighting cat partner was. Tiger Lily, the purring tracker, and Blue Lotus, the unstoppable mage! That had a nice ring to it - okay, no, focus. This isn't time to dreamily think about nicknames and headlines, this was time for her to add spells into her storage. An ice wall spell, light beams, a melt into shadows spell, a shadow blade spell, and the last one was an air shield. Hopefully she didn't choose wrongly, since it was going to be hard to cast spells against multiple enemies at once.

"The fishing district..." A portion of the Port District was on the wrong side of the wall. That section that connected with the water was eventually known as the Fishing District and poor fisherman would go and take their dinghies in hopes of getting some fish in order to feed their families, and if they were lucky, enough to sell for a chance to make a living. Of course, they couldn't compete with the fishing industries Rosemary and Edmund had set up, reserving the best parts of the Min City Bay to get fish. It wasn't fair, but it was natural, which perhaps made it worse. "It's going to take forever to get the stink out of our clothes..." But that was a worry for later, for now it was time to rescue a rich kid and a kitty sister.

They landed, emerging from the shadows. There was the black vehicle reported to be the one to have stolen away the victims. "Stay behind me." She cast the shadow blades spell, a spike made of darkness forming over her fist. She then whispered another spell for her storage, a shadow needle spell. Without warning she launched forward, creating a giant ice wall to block them in the area. There was no in or out, not without her permission now. "The Blue Lotus is here! Human trafficking? What a joke! Prepare to face justice!"

Grunts all ran at her like fools. "Stay at my back." Guarding each other's blind spots, the duo fought with claws and the shadow spike both slashing at the minions. When they used their guns the Lotus through the Lily at them, a projectile of feline fury. Someone tried to sneak up behind them but she blasted their arm off with a light beam. "Let's rescue them now." But little did they know, the trail had gone cold. "The bosses got'em..." A fallen grunt laughed as he nursed his wounds. They were placed in a submarine, and shipped to an island warehouse where goods were stored for trafficking purposes. "You will tell us where they are." Blue Lotus stood over the only awake minion at this location. "Even if I have to break every bone in your body, starting with the bone between your legs."

❝They say that cats are angels with whiskers.❞

ɗιαƖσgυє cσƖσя:#A4D3EE ♙ тнσυgнт cσƖσя #FFADB9

|| In the Name of Love || Nightcore ||

Clover was on edge, every bone in her body wound up like a spring prepared to blast off at any second. When they took down the goons, she sniffed the air, running to the spot she believed her sister to be in. Behind a pile of crates, underneath a tarp, but there was nothing; her sister was gone. Clover's tail drooped, her hands balling into fists. She walked in a slow circle on all four's, her ears pressed flat against her head. Clover hissed, staying close to her Master as she questioned the goon, who was smiling despite the fact that he was bleeding out. "Where is Maple? Where is Maple!" Clover was clearly distressed, her sister was taken and hurt by these humans, her sister was gone.

A rage unlike anything she had ever felt filled her, this human emotion making her feel as though she were going to be torn apart. It consumed her very being and Clover attacked the closest thing, lashing out at it. She felt useless, she felt sick. If only she was stronger, if only she was faster, if only she had magic like her Master, like Maple. When the rage subsided, Clover leaned against Erika's leg, feeling empty. Her hands still shook something awful and the kitten wished that she could do something, that she wasn't so useless. Their hunt for the night was over, tomorrow they would pick up where they left off. In the meanwhile, Clover had stolen the phone of one of the dead men, believing that they could use it to hunt for clues.

That night, Clover had trouble sleeping in her own room. Despite what Cookie had told her about it being inappropriate for the two of them to sleep together, Clover put on a nightgown and grabbed a blanket, sleeping on the end of Erika's bed. She couldn't help it, she wanted to be there to protect her Master should the bad guys come to snatch them up. Not that they would, they had no way of finding the girl and her cat. When morning broke, she forgot to return to her room. By the time the kitten came around, Erika had already gone to school. Clover pouted, she had wanted to ask her human something, but it seemed she had been too polite to rouse her. Clover went to her room, putting her clothes on and making her bed. She returned to Erika's room in order to wash and put things in order.

"Clover, there you are!" Belle poked her head inside, seeing that the kitten was busy at work. "Wow, it's so clean. Anyways, Erika forgot her lunch again, can you bring it to her? You remember where her school is, right?" Clover nodded, "Ye, Clover can do it!" She ran downstairs to grab the lunch and put her low heeled shoes on, heading out the door in order to bring her Master her food. She hummed the tune from the competition, wishing that there were words to sing along to. Her tail swished from side to side, the kitten stretching in the sunshine. Clover was rounding the corner to the school when something caught her tail, pulling her back. She yelped, dropping the lunch box and struggling, but two hands grabbed her own, shoving her against the tree. Even more searched the pockets of her uniform, finding the phone.

"This is his, hey kid, where did you get this?"

"Let Clover go!" The kitten kicked the man between the legs, attempting to run away. She was shoved roughly against the tree once more, her throat grabbed this time, pushing on her larynx. "Bag her," someone said, a black cloth slipping over her head. Clover screamed and kicked as she was shoved into the trunk of a car, her limbs tied down. "Let Clover out!" The kitten mewled, feeling light headed, a strange smell began to fill the trunk and she was pulled towards sleep.

Some problems couldn't be solved on her own. When Clover went missing, Erika had a very keen intuition that she knew exactly who had taken her. She reported this to Father as soon as she could. Luckily, Edmund had a spell cast on each and every servant of the Harrington house. "I know where she is." He pointed out to a warehouse in the Fishing District. No doubt Clover was being prepared to be processed and then sent to be shipped at the island base. "The traffickers have done it, the same ones that took young Jarvan Bernard and his servant." Erika nodded, feeling sick to her stomach. "What do we do, father? Should we contact Lord Manfred and seek his help?"

Edmund shook his head. "Prepare yourself. This is our jurisdiction, as it is the Fishing District. Our household will take action." Erika nodded. If they were all going to come, then she would contact two people who might want to help. Within ten minutes, they had visitors. "Seraphina Remington, at your service!" She winked, gun twirling in her hand. Maybe this time she would be allowed to help. "Please let me assist in whatever way I can!" Edmund and Rosemary gave their permission, and then Sera stepped aside to give someone else their chance. It was a ferret familiar. Cookie was here. "In Julian's place as he can't walk, I answered Master Erika's call to arms." The warehouse was right next to the wharf, so the rescue team gathered on the Harrington Family's private yacht, releasing it from t's chain that held it to the harbor. "I can't wait to see this so-called prodigy in action." Fiyero stood next to her at the front of the boat as it moved. "I don't have much combat practice." She admitted with a frown. She had lots of mana, but she only really started learning how to fight after becoming the Blue Lotus.

"Hey, get away from her." Sera pulled Fiyero out of the way, red hair shimmering and flowing in the wind. The one remaining twin tail of Erika's was also flowing in the air. "This is a romantic scene, so it should be me here instead!" Erika smiled, glad for some normalcy here. "Thank you for coming. I should thank Julian too, for sending Cookie." Her girlfriend took her hands into her own, giving each one a gentle kiss. This time there wasn't the usual flirtatious heat, this time it was a pure show of affection and support. "If I had a familiar, you would do the same for me." Sera said honestly. "I have to do my best, too." The moon smiled down on them.

Eventually the boat came to the warehouse. Edmund cast his spell again to make sure signal was coming from here. Once confirmed, he got into action straight away. The traffickers were likely to try to run the other way since their sea route was blocked off. Edmund cast a spell and he flew over the warehouse to block their exit. "Any rabble to touch the property of a Noble... must prepare for punishment." Walls of light formed a circle around the warehouse. Now there was no way out. Fiyero and Cookie prepared the first attack, he created a bomb to blow up the side of the wall and Cookie did his best to steal the sight of the goons who tried to shoot with their guns at the intruders.

The path was open. "Our turn." Sera kissed Erika again and lead the way, gun shining. It was a special gun, armed with energy bolts because of how technology advanced, bullets were outdated now. "You will return my servant to me." She said loudly, projecting her voice throughout the base. While it was important that the Blue Lotus refrain from murder as much as possible, there was no reason why the noble lady Erika Harrington should hold back. She waved her arm and four shadow tentacles burst out of the ground near her enemies, snatching them up and crushing them to death. Behind them an enemy tried to go for the stab but Seraphina quickly shot him in the head before it could come to that.

"Thanks." Erika said quietly to her lover. Normally she would have noticed something like that, but it seemed losing Clover was affecting her more than she thought. What was this burning in her chest? "It's okay. I'll protect, that's my job." Sera's hair tickled her back. "Let's go to the holding cells. Fiyero and Cookie should already be there."

❝They say that cats are angels with whiskers.❞

When she awoke, the car was quiet, having come to a stop. It did not smell like the fishing district, in fact, it didn't smell like anything. Alarmed, Clover attempted to sit up, hitting her head on the roof of the trunk. At last it popped open and the kitten struggled as she was dragged to her feet, losing one of her shoes. "Let Clover go!" She struggled, her head still foggy from the sleepy gas. The bag was pulled off of her had and the kitten blinked in the low light as she was shoved into a cage. Inside were other young women and girls, all shivering, covered in dirt and looking particularly hungry. No doubt they were lured here by the traffickers with the promise of a better life and things the kitten did not yet understand. "I know you," someone whispered, causing her to jump.

Clover whirled around, a girl huddled in the corner. Her school uniform was torn, but familiar, she went to the same Academy as Erika. "You're Harington's cat," Clover nodded, sitting down beside her. "Master will come find Clover," she whispered, attempting to assure the girl. An hour or so later, they came around with dinner, passing out bowls of thick, sludgy soup and stale bread. Afterwards, they were sprayed with a cold house and told to remove their clothing. Clover hissed whenever one of the males came near her, admiring her small body with its salacious curves. The kitten took off her maid uniform, leaving only her collar. "That comes off too," Clover touched the bell, shaking her head. "No! Master will not find her if Clover takes it off!" She was pulled roughly against the bars, the metal cold against her skin. "That's the point," he ripped it off and hit her in the head with the butt of his gun, the kitten collapsing against one of the other females.

Their legs were clapped with chains, they were made to lumber slowly towards a loading bay, where each girl was given an injection before being put inside of a box with nothing but small holes to breathe through. Clover struggled as she was lifted between two humans, injected in the neck and shoved roughly inside of one such crate. "No!" She mewled sleepily, scratching at the inside. Her nails left marks, her fingers bleeding as the crate was lifted and moved, loaded onto the submarine that would take them away. Her eyes drifted shut once more despite herself and Clover was dreadfully certain that she wasn't going to see Master for a while.

"Clover, Clover. Oh gosh, she's dead isn't she? Please wake up, please don't be dead." Clover opened her eyes, a hazy face coming into focus. "Maple!" She sat up so quickly their foreheads hit and the two kittens recoiled. "Thank goodness you're awake," there was a large bruise and dried up blood where she had been hit with the gun. "Where is Clover?" The kitten looked around, realizing she was in another unfamiliar place. "We're on an island apparently, not far from Min City." That was all of the information Maple had been able to glean. Clover reached up, touching one of her sore ears. There was a tag on it, no doubt an auction or ID number. "Master will find Clover, Clover will bring Maple and Juvian home," she could not truly remember Maple's ward's name.

The other cat looked away, clearly upset about something. "They sold him already, they took him away. I couldn't do anything to protect him," Clover's heart clenched painfully. "Clover will find him," the kitten said, holding her sister's hand. "Clover will save everyone," that much was a promise.

"They're not here!" Cookie wailed with something that was between frustration and anger. "Why aren't they here?" It was empty. Fiyero's eyes were narrowed into a dangerous slit. "This is such a waste of my valuable time. How dare they try to do business when I have soaps to watch!" Eamon knocked his familiar on the head. "Soaps aren't why we're fighting." He reminded the foxy familiar, who vehemently disagreed. "Soaps are clearly the reason for everything!" Erika ignored the idiocy and decided to focus on something else. She stomped on the fingers of one of the minions. "If you don't speak, I will have Cookie go into your head." Erika was never one for cruelty. She didn't like unneeded sadism, no matter the situation. But, well, for every rule, there's always an exception. "And then Cookie will find who your loved ones are, and we will go after them." Sera glanced at her girlfriend, unsettled by the display of violence.

The minion wasn't speaking. Time to go a notch further. "You don't want to know what the noble families can do to your loved ones." The man let out a pathetic cry. "Please don't hurt them, they have nothing to do with this!" Her eyes were cold like steel as she regarded this idiot. "My servant had nothing to do with your business, either. Speak or surrender your family." He was begging now, crying and shivering. "Th-the bosses have a base on the island out at the h-h-harbor please don't tell them I squealed or they'll go a-after my kids... please..." Erika's eyes glared down at the man who thought he deserved mercy. "Unlike him, we don't hurt innocents. Maybe next time pick a better employer. If anything happens to them, it is all your fault." The man screamed and was allowed up, limping to try to get to his family.

"You weren't really going to tell the bosses that he revealed their base, are you?" Sera asked nervously, tugging at her sleeve. She hadn't seen Erika this mad before. It was frightening... it reminded her of - no, now wasn't the time for that. "I probably should." Erika sighed, closing her eyes. "But no, I won't. His children wouldn't deserve the fate that would befall them." They went outside to report this news to Edmund and Rosemary. "Okay, we'll get a boat ready." To poor Fiyero's dismay, they didn't have the option to go back home and take a break. If they didn't immediately chase the lead, it had the risk of the traffickers selling off their property before they could be rescued.

There was no way Erika would let that happen.

They were lucky the enemies tonight were traffickers. The CCC hated human trafficking as much as they hated witches and magic, so Karma decided to let the mages do as they pleased. And so the boat arrived at the island not too long after. A wall of light surrounded the island so that nothing could go in or out. "The wall is bigger this time, it's taking all my mana to maintain it." Edmund grunted. "Erika, I put you in charge. Your servant is your responsibility." She nodded, looking over at Fiyero and Cookie. "You two know what to do. Sera and I will eliminate the enemies in the way. Cookie, follow Clover's scent. Fiyero, make sure Cookie gets to the trail alive." Tonight wasn't a night of justice, or of heroes. Tonight was simply the Harrington family showing the consequences of messing with one of the three Noble houses.

She had a plan drawn up in the dirt, using a stick. There were several girls surrounding her, some with magical potential, some promising that they were stronger than the average female. Clover trusted them, she knew that they wouldn't lie when the situation was so serious. The kitten stood, pretending to stretch when really, she was testing the integrity of her chains. They were tough, digging into her ankles and wrists and weighing her down. She had been outfitted with a muzzle as well, having bitten one of the guards. They weren't supposed to hurt the merchandise and yet, a few girls disappeared and came back with various bruises and hand prints marking their bodies. "When guards come to check, Clover will distract," the change was about to happen, which Maple had noted during her short time here and confirmed with a girl who had been stuck on the island longer.

As soon as the rotation changed, Clover stood, stepping over their roughly drawn map. She flung her arms in the air and began to shake, falling to the dirt and making choking sounds. "Help!" Maple stood, screaming, "someone come help my sister! She's having a heart attack!" Several guards ran at once to open up the cell door, three girls waiting to take them out. They lay in the dirt in the next thirty seconds, groaning, clutching their family jewels. Clover stood, pushing her way out the door with the others. One of the girls who called herself Emma ripped the key off of a belt and began opening other doors, a fight breaking out. "Back up! We need back up!" A guard yelled into his radio as he was shoved into a cell, the doors slamming shut behind him.

"Yes!" Clover shouted as gun fire rang in the air, screams following and reverberating off of the walls. "Clover!" Maple yelled, the kitten realizing that she was bleeding. Her stomach, she had been shot. Despite the bullet wound, her rage came pouring out of her and she leaped, the chains clanging as she wrapped them around a human's throat, using them to choke him into dreamland. She leaped on another, her claws swiping his throat. Erika might have had a problem with it, but the kitten had no qualms in killing humans. More of them rounded the corners, bearing guns and other weapons; shouting threats that if the girl's didn't get back into their cells, they would never see the light of day again.

Maple pounced, the guards leveling their guns. Clover shoved her out of the way, one human pumping several bullets into her body. "Clover!" Maple screamed as the doors above them broke open, the Harington's having at last arrived. Maple lifted her sister, slinging her arm across her shoulder. It was chaos, between the fighting, magic, and bullets, Maple was having a tough time locating Clover's owner.

Eamon swung his sword Fiyero created for him, stabbing through a guard as they broke through the door to the holding cells. "Kill every last one!" The path was blocked by the wall of light. There was no way off the island, not with Edmund keeping them in place. "We can't let any witness reveal to the CCC that we are mages." If word got out that they were magical, Karma would be legally knocking on their doorstep with a permit to annihilate them all. "Understood." Sera went into action, her lady pistol firing off energy rounds at all those who dared approach. Rosemary took graceful steps as she followed the carnage, knowing very well some prisoners could be wounded.

With Fiyero, Eamon, Cookie, Seraphina, and last and definitely not least, Erika clearing a way, Rosemary had a safe path to travel. Shadow spikes erupted from the walls, crushing the guards as they tried to escape or find a vantage point to shoot from. "Let's-" Another door was kicked down, just in time to reveal Clover being riddled with bullets. Erika sprouted a flaring electric claw and dug it into the chest of the shooter, kicking his partner into the wall before driving a shadow spike through both his legs. "You need to use more lethal methods, Berry." Eamon suggested, seeing as while she was hurting many enemies, the Prodigy wasn't dealing finiishing blows. The Blue Lotus fought for justice. ...But she was Erika Harrington. As much as she was reluctant to, she had to if she wanted to protect her identity. "Fine." Her tentacles snapped the neck of each soldier held in it's initially controlling the characters after MHA.

"Let's get you to our healer." Fiyero grabbed Clover from the black haired Maple. "Other Clover, you come too. Guide the rest of the prisoners." The ferret, Staple, told them what to do. Erika grit her teeth, she needed to focus on the fight. While it was bad that this all happened, at the very least Rosemary was already hard at work to heal the bullet holes in her cat. "You're safe now, partner." If calling a servant partner was weird, no one said anything of it. But then there was a swish and a suited man grabbed Sera from behind. "Give all this up, you worthless filth." He told them with a mocking laugh. "Else I'll kill this pretty lady, here."

There wasn't even a chance. "Try again next time to be born not useless." At the snap of a finger a shadow tentacle appeared a this feet, the tentacle aiming for his neck with a resounding crack. "I knew you'd save me, Rika." Sera grinned, picking up her gun and putting the boss out of his misery. "What should we do with the rest of the girls?" She asked quietly. "Now they know what we can do. They can tell the CCC that we're mages." The safe thing would be to kill them, wouldn't it? Aren't they supposed to protect the secret at all cost?

Clover coughed, blood spattering her front. Maple located Erika, passing her sister over worriedly. "Fix her, please, please help my sister!" Maple said desperately, her tail swishing in distress. Clover was passed over to Rosemary, who began her first aid magic immediately. Blood dribbled between her lips, Clover was in immense pain, five bullets having shot her in the stomach. "There's no exit wound, I'm going to need to get the bullets out before I can close the wounds." Maple removed her headband and placed it into Clover's mouth for the cat to bite down on while Rosemary worked, pulling on a glove and digging her fingers into the wounds to remove each bullet. Clover bit down, holding Maple's hand; she hadn't the energy to squirm or thrash, although she was vastly uncomfortable.

Once the bullets were out, Rosemary began to patch her up quickly. Clover had already lost a lot of blood, but not enough for it to have detrimental effects. A sigh escaped her mouth as the pain ebbed away, her eyelids fluttering shut. "Thank you, thank you for saving her," Maple sobbed, holding Clover close as her wounds healed. "You must be Maple," Rosemary smiled kindly, "we've heard a lot about you. Clover doesn't stop talking about you," this only served to make the dark haired kitten sob harder, knowing how much her twin sister looked up to her. Maple was the older twin, it was supposed to be her job to protect Clover and yet, the opposite was true. even if Maple was the one with magical ability, Clover was the one with the integrity to act on things that bothered her.

When she came to, the fighting had ended. The humans had been gathered as the Mages tried to decide what to do with them. Clover winced as she sat up, Maple helping support her. She was still weak, magic unable to replenish blood. "Don't hurt humans," Clover shook her head, "Clover promised them freedom." One of Erika's classmates stepped forward, none of the humans were clothed, they had all been forced to live in cages, naked, clapped in irons. "What if you use an erasure spell?" The girl suggested, her hands shaking. She too, was a mage, not that anyone knew. "Erase our memories of the past few hours? We'll know we rebelled, that will be enough for the police to not look for a lead." If they wanted to know who had lead the rebellion, they would have a memory of a vague girl with ears and a tail, which could be anyone's familiar.

"Clover does not think we should take lives," she said quietly, closing her small hand around Erika's wrist in the hopes that it would stop her. Sure, her Master's wishes came first, but Clover had promised all of these humans, all young girl's, freedom if they helped her rebel and escape. She intended to keep that promise because even if the humans weren't always the most reliable, cats always made good on their word.

It wasn't that Erika wanted to kill them. No, it was the opposite. She didn't, she didn't want to have to kill. But she was fully aware that that was the safest thing to do if she wanted to protect them from the public knowledge that the Harrington family being magical. The CCC woud have full jurisdiction to hunt and kill them all, one by one. Even Eamon was in danger, because even if he himself had hardly any mana, he clearly had enough to summon a familiar like Fiyero. "We really should just execute them." Eamon muttered unhappily. He eyed Erika in particular. "You're an idiot and have too much mana, letting them live is a risk." But they were victims, victims didn't deserve death, did they? Then Clover had an idea.

But Clover's idea - Erika was an elemental caster, taking after her father, Edmund's skill set. He was primarily a light mage, though, while Erika preferred shadow magic. "I can't cast Erasure, that's a high level distortion spell." Her mana nodes weren't honed enough to cast that kind of magic. Then Cookie piped up. "I can do it. It'll knock me out, but I can wipe their memories, enough that they won't even remember who started the rebellion." He wriggled a little, licking his fur, ears flat against his head. "I usually use it to erase the memory of people who find out Julian and Julia are the same." Well, it seemed that would solve their problems, then. "Do it, Cookie." Edmund instructed, and the ferret did so. Rosemary caught the critter after it fell and they left as quickly as they could, leaving a boat for the girls to ride once they were reoriented. Of course, it wasn't all a victory. Young Jarvan, hardly more than a child, was gone and the records said nothing about who might have bought him.

Back at the Harrington Estate, everyone was made to gather at the dinner table. Seraphina went home with a half-hearted wave Erika's direction, and Bayon would be driving up to pick up the unconscious Cookie in an hour or so. "I believe we need a new rule." Edmund was using his authority as the head of the Harrington house to speak. "I'm glad you're back alive, Clover, but we need a rule to make sure this does not happen again." Rosemary nodded, looking sad. "Bad people will continue to try to target anyone affiliated with our home, because we are well off and they might not be." There was also the matter that Erika started it, but that was a story for another time. "From now on, Erika, you have to take care of your own lunch! If you forget anything, it's your own fault and you have to deal with it." Edmund declared as if it was a divine law. "Erika's forgotten lunch will from now on be considered servant property to enjoy as they wish!"

Eamon snickered loudly, nudging her in the side. "Looks like you can't be lazy anymore, Berry." Erika scowled, lowering her head on the table. After late night patrols, she hardly had time to remember her lunch. It was one of her fatal flaws. "I need to lose weight anyways." She said with a half smile, hands twitching because they longed to stroke and rub Clover's soft silky fur. "The point is you need to take responsibility, Erika." Rosemary spoke more gently than Edmund's proclamation and Eamon's mocking laughter. "Just because you're wealthy doesn't mean you should make your servant do everything for you." Rosemary hugged Clover to her like a stuffed animal. "Look how cute she is! How could you force her to to have to serve, it's so cruel!" Edmund sighed, shaking his head. "It's partly because of your spoiling her that she took a while to learn her duties." Said Edmund, who was very guilty of sneaking extra food for Clover because of her cuteness.

Hypocrite.

There was nothing like coming home after a long, very rough day. Maple was returned to the Bernard's immediately, the two sisters allowed a quick goodbye before the dark haired cat went with her owners to their vehicle, driving back home sans Jarvan. Clover couldn't imagine what the family must have been going through, well, she could have considering she had lost her Mage and his wife. Fiyero conjured up a robe for Clover to wear, the kitten putting it on, knowing that she was no longer allowed to go nude. She clung to Erika's side the whole way home, the house warm and inviting. Marie and Belle had prepared dinner while Rosemary was away fighting, the two of them serving everyone.

Clover was never happier to eat real food, the grub she had been served earlier hardly edible. Edmund even sneaked her a bit more despite the fact that servants were not supposed to eat seconds before their Master. She gratefully took the second helping of fish, attempting to not wolf it down, minding the lessons Cookie had given her. By now the news was reporting the successful return of the girls, some reporting a mysterious familiar that led them in rebellion. Clover paid no mind to the talking screen as she consumed dessert while Erika was scolded for forgetting her lunch. "Clover will put Master's lunch next to her bag so she doesn't forget it," the kitten said helpfully, hoping that she wouldn't sleep in tomorrow so that she wouldn't miss sending Erika off.

After they were dismissed from dinner, Clover went upstairs with Erika, hoping that they would be given the night off from hero duties due to the fact that Clover had nearly died today. She was tired and wanted nothing more than to sleep off the drugs and near death experience. "Clover is... too sleepy,"[/;color] she murmured, looking like a child as she rubbed at her eyes tiredly, wanting to settle down on the end of the cozy bed and curl up in a ball. "Can Clover sleep?" If Master wanted to go out bad guy hunting, Clover would go too, but she could already feel the fight beginning to remain awake for the time being. The kitten passed out as they reached Erika's room, falling against her Master tiredly. She would be alright, she just needed a proper rest and possibly fluids in the morning to properly restore the blood loss.

Clover curled up on the floor of the room, wearing the robe Fiyero had conjured up for her. "Nighty night," she managed to murmur, her tail coming to a stand still, curling up beside her. Her ears twitched cutely, the kitten looking positively scrumptious as she rest. Her face relaxed, her long hair obscuring part of her face. Clover seemed even smaller and cuter, if that was possible, her fur shining gloriously in the late evening night.

Of course they wouldn't go bad guy hunting. Clover had a near death experience, that was just too much! But Erika still needed to clear her head. Something was wrong, more than the usual wrong. She needed to get out of here. She needed a little breath of freedom from the shackles of the Harrington name. She past a small spell to add fog to Clover's dreams to help keep her in the deep sleep and then she melted into shadows, escaping the Estate into the shadows of the outside. Min City was gigantic, and there was a lot she could explore. But in the end, as if it were a giant magnet, she always did end up at the Wall of Glory. One side saw it as a protective shield, the other side saw it as a foreboding prison. Either way, this wall was the big reason for anyone to ever come to this city.

There was someone up there on the wall waiting for her. The Blue Lotus wasn't really in a mood to fight, but if she had to she would not hesitate. "Hello." A man in a black suit sporting a phantom mask was there, waving at her with a nonchalante air about him. The WAtchman. Also known as Alistair Remington, a man with so much potential for greatness, only for it to be squandered. At least, as far as the public knew, he was just a lazy bum. They did not know about his hard work to keep the mages of Min City safe. "Hello." He shrugged. "You missed a bit fight. The Harringtons were involved. Unless you were there, too?" Even with the phantom mask Erika could feel his eyes boring into her.

Was he getting suspicious? She had to throw him off the trail somehow. "I was preventing a mugging of an old lady in the poor side's shopping mall." She had to pretend to be poor person who just happened to have mana in her. He stared at her, as if trying to pick apart the story but then gave up, deciding it was not important. "Well, whoever you are, that doesn't matter." A relief, it seemed. "What does matter is that we're on opposite sides. I want to protect magic, you want to protect the rabble." Erika gave him a soft glare, wanting to go home again because this wasn't as much fun as it was supposed to be. "I'm on the side of justice." She corrected him tiredly.

He seemed a bit amused by the correction. "Justice depends on the point of view." He told her. Was it true? How was she to know? But she did know some people could never be just. For example, the traffickers earlier today that had tried to steal Clover. "I'm going back on patrol." She murmured, vanishing into the darkness and then she headed back home to sleep.

|| In the Name of Love || Nightcore ||

In the morning, it was Belle that assisted in getting Clover dressed, a shiny new collar waiting for her. This one had a special protection special cast by Edmund so that only those with Harington blood running through them could remove it. Clover felt much more secure with it in place, sighing in relief once Belle moved hr hands, the golden bell resting against her collar bone. Clover put on her maid uniform, allowing the human to put her hair in twin tails before heading off to attend to her duties. Today, Clover made certain to place Erika's lunch bag beside her school bag. The kitten placed her hands on her hips, seeming satisfied with her job. She had patiently cut apple slices into little rabbits and had a band aid on her finger to show for it. They couldn't allow Rosemary to heal every wound of course, as it would serve to teach a lesson to be more careful.

Clover ate breakfast with the other servants, Fiyero waltzing in with a yawn, his white hair in a tight bun on his head. He was no longer allowed to help Clover get ready in the morning, to his disappointment, but it meant he could now sleep in. Clover yawned, stretching in her seat before leaning down to take one last bite of her stack of blueberry pancakes. Clover had never eaten such tasty food before coming here and the starved kitten was already gaining weight, her ribs no longer so prominent. They had to be careful of course, since Clover had no magical ability, like some of the other servants, she could easily gain too much weight. Even Belle and Marie had some semblance of mana, Belle's specialty was floating small objects towards her, which was useful when her hands were full, and Marie could breathe life into inanimate objects for a short amount of time, although the ability completely exhausted her.

Clover looked down at her fingers, wondering if one day she would be able to do anything cool. "Clover, please take Master Erika's breakfast upstairs," the kitten jumped to her feet, picking up the tray and carefully taking it up the stairs, barefoot since she had lost the shoes Cookie had given her the day prior in the incident. Fiyero could conjure her up a new pair, but he was feeling lazy. Besides, now that he was no longer allowed to prey on her, he would only spoil her when no one was around. The household was at last growing used to her presence and they settled into a rhythm of sorts. Clover entered her Master's room and set up breakfast on the table. "Master Erika," Clover said pleasantly, "Clover brought you breakfast," she pulled out a school uniform and placed it on the seat beside her.

She was unaware that her Master had gone out without her the night before and had she known, no doubt the kitten would have been upset. Clover looked around, trying to clean up the room a little bit when she came across a pair of Sera's undergarments. The kitten didn't understand embarrassment yet, but she did know that it was something her Master would not want her parents to find and so she dutifully hid it in Erika's bag, between one of her textbooks.

School was boring. But there was certainly something interesting to deal with. Up on the rooftop, it smelled crisp and clean, as if someone sprayed the sky with air freshener. It was a pretty view as well, if you called a giant ugly wall blocking half of the city a pretty view. Well, of course, Seraphina was always nice to look at. She was quite hot, if Erika had any say in the matter. Which she did, obviously, as Sera's girlfriend. Sera was outgoing, she was popular, she was full of friends. Erika mostly only had Sera and more recently, Clover. It wasn't that she was shy, and it wasn't that she antagonized people... she just had more important things to worry about than trying to make friends.

One of those concerns being Seraphina's marks and bruises. "They say honesty makes a good relationship." She threw a juice pack Sera's way. She caught it as she always did and offered a weak smile. "Well, I honestly think you look better with a single twin tail. Fashionable asymmetry." Erika wasn't going to fall for it. Okay, sure, she did admit that the new style wasn't awful on her. But Seraphina was most definitely trying to deflect right now. "You were weird yesterday, Sera. Tell me what's wrong." It was an order, one Sera had to obey. Well, except for the fact that no, Sera didn't really have to obey. And she didn't. "A girl's got to have secrets." The elusive redhead said with a slightly more convincing smile etched on the mask that was her face. "Makes us more charming, y'know what I'm saying?"

This was going nowhere, quickly. No matter what she tried, there was nothing that came of it. Their relationship felt almost like it was in a rut and it was bothersome. So Erika did what she did best when she needed to clear her head. She became the Blue Lotus. Atop the Wall of Glory they were, looking at some sort of procession going on down on the streets. "Let's see what's going on, Tiger Lily." The Blue Lotus took her sidekick's hand and they hopped around until they finally were in the shadows close enough to hear what was going on.

"The True Heroine will save us!" They chanted, their voices in Unison. This was the Revolution. "We have hope and we will standfast because we won't let poverty break us! The True Heroine will save the day and bring light into the night that is our lives!" Who even was this True Heroine, anyways? Sounded like the same kind of name as the Watchman was, or Blue Lotus. There was definitely a person behind that name. "The True Heroine will guide us! We can't allow the Noble Houses walk over us! The True Heroine will break the wall, the True Heroine will fight for our sakes!" It was being televised of course, by News Anchor Elsbeth and her cameraman Horace as they scrambled to get the best footage of this strange scene. "The Harrington House has almost anything we could ask for." Erika whispered to her servant, knowing no one else could hear them. "But many nights pass when these people can't even afford food. That angers them, so they want to fight." The True Heroine. Erika would have to engrave that name in her memory.

She was definitely going to be someone to have to fight later on.

Clover stood atop the wall with her Master, wondering what was happening below them. Tomorrow was a day off, which meant that people should have been at home relaxing, not working and protesting. Clover knelt down, her ears twitching. "Clover does not like it," the kitten admitted, but stood when her Master beckoned her, knowing that she had no choice but to go down there. Clover wanted to go home and nap, she really wasn't cut out for this side kick business. Regardless, she clung to Erika as they moved through the shadows, squeezing her eyes shut so that she didn't get nauseous. When they landed, Clover opened her lids once they were on solid ground, her head spinning. She leaned forward in order to glimpse the activity, noting that it was not a street festival. There were no party tents or firework, only angry humans holding signs and chanting words that confused her. Clover attempted to think back, but Heroine was not a word that she recognized. She would have to ask Erika later, but for now, there was trouble in the human city and Tiger Lily and the Blue Lotus needed to get to the bottom of it.

Once back home, Clover removed her superhero outfit, tucking it into the hiding place the two of them kept them. "Master, Clover does not understand what True Heroine means," Clover admitted, not embarrassed by her lack of understanding. She scratched her cheek, wondering if she was stupid and if Maple would know what it meant. She prepared for bed, scrubbing her face despite her dislike of water, making sure to get behind her ears. Cookie had told her that if she didn't, mushrooms would grow back there. She tucked herself onto the end of Erika's mattress like she always did, pulling a blanket up over her head. "Clover will protect Master from True Heroine," she whispered, falling asleep quickly.

The next morning, Fiyero was waiting for her along with Belle. "Clover, it's inappropriate to be sleeping in your Master's room." Belle looked cross, Fiyero looked as though he didn't care, he pulled something out of his sleeve, an outfit for the kitten. "Clover cannot sleep alone," the kitten replied, having grown used to sharing a bed with Maple. Together, Belle and Fiyero dressed Clover up like a little doll, then sent her off to breakfast. It was Saturday, so Erika did not have school and Clover would get to spend the whole day with her. Unless of course, Sera came over, then Clover would get to spend the day with two of them.

She did not mind Master Sera of course, Master Seraphina gave her plenty of pets and Clover enjoyed them, even if Sera sometimes grabbed her tail to stroke it, which felt strange and not all that unpleasant, but not a feeling she understood either.

Unfortunately for Erika, who was gearing for another fight again, they couldn't catch a glimpse of this True Heroine. She probably wasn't going to show herself. Even back at home, Erika wondered who she could be, and what she could do. She wanted to fight her, she wanted to see how strong she was in comparison to her. "Heroine is a word for a female hero." She explained to her sleepy servant who no doubt was confused. "I don't know much about her, but it seems she's earned the trust of the poor." This poverty that was rampant, it was the rich who had the ability to do something about it with all of their extraneous funds. But they also wouldn't. As progressive as Edmund and Rosemary may be, their example of charity wasn't nearly enough to make a big difference in the state of the city.

Morning came and it was a very happy time for it to be the weekend. Once again Belle was here to criticize Clover in some way. Fiyero didn't seem interested in joining in her speech about what was and wasn't appropriate, though. For Erika, she wanted to use the weekend to have a chance to catch up on her thoughts and figure out how best to help Seraphina. Was it getting worse? Whatever was causing the constant injuries and bruises and bandages, was that becoming more of a problem? But it was family business, and it wasn't proper to get involved in another family's matter if they don't ask for help first. It was that rule that kept the Harringtons and Remingtons and Langleys in close concert with each other. In the past noble houses would plot and scheme to remove the others from power, but because of this unwritten rule, there was harmony between the families.

"It's a good outfit choice, but remember you're not to help her change anymore." She didn't forget Fiyero's little games. The fox was the wily type, they all knew this but he still liked to try to slip through the cracks wherever he could. Like now, for instance, but at least Belle was there to prevent anything too inappropriate. Though it was quite inappropriate for a male to be in the same room while a female was getting dressed. "Oh, who, me? But I identify as a girl right now so it's okay. Here, I can help change you, too to prove my feminine charms." Fiyero was in luck. He was going to get to spend the day with a hand-print decorating his face for the next few hours.

Once given peace and quiet, Erika got herself dressed in casual robes, not up to anything fancy. Sera wouldn't be here and she was too tired to try to learn a new piece on the flute. What was there even to do today? She could try to actually look at her school work, but she really didn't want to bother. It was work and it was the weekend. No one wanted to work on the weekend. She would just do it Monday morning. (Spoiler, the work does not get finished.) "I should train my magic." Maybe if she got stronger, Eamon would stop giving Clover a hard time about protecting her.

Erika appeared in her room, rather than waiting for Clover to bring breakfast to her. Belle was just finishing up Clover's twin tails when her Master entered, commenting on Fiyero's presence. "I kept a close eye on him so no funny business went down," Belle reported with a smile, holding her hair brush like a weapon. "And if he tries to do anything, I'll be sure to whack him!" She branded it in front of her threateningly, looking like a ninja despite her cute Saturday outfit. It was their day off and as such, all Clover had to do was bring Erika breakfast, but it seemed her Master had not waited for her to come and instead, had come to find Clover. Clover confirmed, rising to meet her Master in the doorway.

The two of them headed down to breakfast, eating at the dining room table. The rest of the household seemed to still be asleep, so it was up to Marie to cook up a breakfast of bacon and eggs, which Clover nibbled on slowly, attempting to be the picture of perfection in front of Erika. The kitten's ears twitched while she followed the blue haired girl back up the stairs to her room, musing about what to do today. Clover would have been nervous to attend the market considering what had happened last time and how it seemed she brought trouble with her wherever she went. "Clover will help too!" The kitten said, unknowing as to what she could actually assist in.

She could... she could... make the bed! No, it was her day off, the cleaning staff would be coming to make the bed. Clover could... read! She went to the corner of books and picked up one of the colorful children's illustrations, running her hands over the illustrious display of beauty. The novel was about a fairy, one that could grant one wish to whatever human captured her. A children's novel and of course, there was romance involved, not that the cat understood it yet. She knew love, of course, she loved Maple, but Clover had yet to learn what real romance was like. When cats mated, they let out a cry to let nearby males know they were available, then, cats came to respond, there was no romance involved.

Humans were different, a male could court a female for months and still be unsuccessful. Clover did not understand why humans were so high maintenance, why they did not live by simple rules and instead had to don clothing and had one part of the same species serve another. Her tail wagged curiously, "Master, can Clover learn magic too?" She inquired, placing the book aside and rising to her feet, even in heels, she just barely met the height of her human.

ɗιαƖσgυє cσƖσя:#007F03 ♙ тнσυgнт cσƖσя #B20070

|| Need you Now || Lady Antebellum ||

Saturday. A day off from school, a day off from the daily tedious grind. A day to spend however she wished to. That was the theory, at least, but who knew how it would really go? Glad that Fiyero didn't get any bad ideas beyond the usual bad ideas, the two girls had their breakfast with an egg cooked by Marie. Clover was reading, showing off some of her new skill Cookie had helped give her and then she asked quite the pertinent question. "Maybe it's because you're made from alchemy." It was time to confess something here. "I can't tell if you have mana or not. You're a cat, but you have a human's shape. So maybe you can, but don't feel bad if you can't." With Maple she could tell because the mana nodes have already been released thanks to Henry's training.

Not that the magic did her any good in protecting her master or whatever. Jarvan was probably being sold into awful slavery at the moment. Meanwhile, Erika was yawning, bored and not sure how to spend this leisurely day. But no, magic would be the best way to do it. "Lord Bayon's a skilled alchemist." Oh, right. What were the chanses that this filly furry cat knew what that word meant if she didn't even know Heroine? Thankfully, Rika was quite the nice and nurturing master... - hopefully? - so she didn't mind explaining it. "Alchemy is the art of using the magical properties of everyday objects such as monkshood or a hairball to replicate the effects of our mana-based spells. They're put into potions and can be sold to people who don't have mana so that they can use magic, too." It was almost like her ability to store spells in her hand - humans could store potions in their cloaks. Except for the fact that spells were massless things but potions were very bulky. Why the heck did alchemists have so many ugly-shaped bottles, anyways?

Leading Clover to the magic training room, it was time for a bit of a show. She already knew all about how to cast most elemental spells, but there had to be some things she could use more training in. "...Watchman..." Right, that guy. Alistair the Lazy Watchman who actually wasn't lazy at all was one of her worst archenemies. Elementalists were weak to weapons casters who in turn had trouble fighting tricky distortors. Cookie was busy today though, since he was helping Julian with advanced crossdressing techniques right now.

"Will you be my guinea pig, Clover?" Distortion magic wasn't flashy like weapons or elements could be. It was almost entirely mental and psychological warfare, so they wouldn't really cause any physical signs of having worked. "Okay, hmm... let's go. Maybe this one?" She was reading spells from the distortion spellbook, waving her hands as indicated on the page. It was a tickle spell, to make Clover feel as if she were being tickled. Erika let it be for a few moments before releasing it. "Or this one?" This time she was casting a happiness spell, to give her servant a vague sense of contentment. These were all low level distortion spells. Only higher leveled ones could do fancy things like inserting fake memories or hypnotizing someone.

Clover had no magical potential, just as they had suspected. The kitten's tail drooped, but she dutifully followed her Master to the training room, because of course the Haringtons had something like that. She could learn to use potions, just like her mage, but they were bulky, according to Erika, who explained things while they walked. "So Clover cannot do what Maple does?" Of course she couldn't, Clover had been cocky to think that she could ever have the same opportunities as the kitten that was older by minutes. The youngest of three girls, they said that when you had two older female siblings, you were less likely to accomplish anything and live an utterly boring life. Their older sister, who was only a few minutes older than both Maple and Clover, had been purchased by a sea Captain and lived her life catching mice and rats in the middle of the ocean.

The thought of such things made the kitten feel sick. How her brave sister did it, Clover knew not. The kitten did have one thing going for her and it was her snazzy job in which she was allowed to do strange things like carry out secret missions to save both humans and mages. It was strange, thinking that no one knew who she was with a mask on. Even with her cat tail and ears, it seemed as though her identity would be obvious, but apparently there were plenty of white haired, cat eared figures running about the city. Take Fiyero for example, who normally wore ceremonial clothes as he lazed about, munching on crisps and watching soap operas until he fell asleep. Clover wondered what the familiar ever accomplished and how Eamon had even come to obtain him. Of course, her thoughts came to a quick stop when they reached the training room.

"Alright," Clover did not have a choice anyhow, either way, the kitten would be used as a doll for her Master to experiment on. Clover stood in front of her, attempting to hold herself like the Watchman did. The kitten began to feel a strange sensation, something that her cat-brain could not register. She stiffened, twisting strangely and then finally, bursting into what seemed to be a fit of either hiccups or giggles. The poor cat fell to her knees, nearly peeing herself from the sensation. "Clover does-" she said, breathless when it was at last over. "Clover does not like," a strange sensation suddenly overcame her, a feeling of happiness that struck suddenly and for no reason. Clover lay back on the floor, panting, her tail wagging happily.

At last the kitten returned to her feet, straightening her bonnet, what Fiyero had seemed an essential piece to the outfit. Clover had a feeling that she should no longer take his example as to what an exemplary familiar looked like. "Is Clover Erika's familiar?" The kitten inquired, her ears twitching as she wondered if she was as useful to Erika as Cookie was to Julian.

|| Need you Now || Lady Antebellum ||

It seemed for now, if Clover wanted to use magic, alchemy was the most likely option. "Maybe we can visit the Langleys so Bayon can show you basic potions." She didn't want to see her servant looking so sad! What kind of Master would want that? Well, okay, some Masters were cruel and summoned familiars only to hurt or torture them, but Erika was not one of them. Their bond was as equal as... well, no, much of it was Erika bossing Clover around. Oh well. "You might be able to! I can't tell if you have mana or not." Would she have to explain about mana nodes and activating them and everything? But that was the most boring part of magic! "We'll just have to wait and see for now."

It was time to practice Distortion magic! She looked through the list on the spellbook, trying to use them. The problem with magic was that you really needed to have a good understanding of it in order to use higher level magic. Because the strongest magic are combinations of magic. For example, if you wanted to create a gun, you had to know explicitly all of the inner mechanisms of the gun and how they go together, otherwise you might get a gun that doesn't know how to shoot, or just a pile of scrap metal and gunpowder. Maybe that was why Alistair only used medieval weapons? How hard was it to get a sword wrong, anyways? It comforted Erika to know that there was a chance someone else was just as bad as she was academically.

Oh, right. She was here to practice spells. Tickle spell worked but Clover didn't like it so she awarded her kitten with the lazy content spell. "Distortion is hard." She screwed up her eyes in annoyed frustration, probably looking like a mix of a dog with a facial deformity and a basketball player's concentration face as he tried to jump for the dunk. It was hard to explain, but the mana didn't flow out of her nodes easily like it did with elemental magic. It had a sense of wrongness to it that brought chills up her spine. Her nodes were used to converting mana into stuff like shadow or light, not turning into mental energy, so it was more physically draining. "How about this one, Clover?" It was the simplest of distortions - to force someone to blink.

Around then, the door opened. It was Eamon and he leaned against the door. "So this is where you were." What was he up to this time? Her silly brother was always doing silly things. He didn't even have much mana, so why did he think he could be in the protector's position? "I'm practicing distortions." The jovial quality left her voice, it was something that came when it was just her and Clover. She was back in the stuffy shoes of noble blood. Oh, what first world problems. Or, 1% problems, really. Eamon didn't seem interested anyhow. "The Blue Lotus and her sidekick, Tiger Lily. Apparently they're inspiring witches and wizards try to do the same." Oh. She couldn't tell if that made her feel warm and fuzzy or dread. Maybe both? Probably both. "A mage was found dead in an alley yesterday wearing some spandex suit, according to the news. Maybe vigilantes like the Blue Lotus should be more careful who they influence, because imitators won't be as strong. It's stupid." Erika had to agree. The imitators who believed they were hotshots thanks to magic really were stupid.

Most mages wouldn't be able to survive a bullet, but mages don't like to think that they're on the same level as the humans. It really was bloated bigheadedness. Luckily for them, that bigheadedness didn't manifest in real life or else it would be really easy for the CCC to find them. Just look for the weird ugly big-head people! "She's spacing out again." Eamon nudged Clover with a tired sort of sigh. "Isn't she hard to deal with when she disappears into her own head like that all the time?"

Clover looked at the spell, unable to read the text. It was not in the language she was learning, but rather something else, something ancient. "Clover cannot make heads or tails of it," she scratched her cheek, wondering what this magic could even do. Eamon arrived sometime around then and Erika began to space out. Clover's tail swished back and forth as she looked between the two. "Clover does not want to interrupt Master's thinking." She believed Eamon's words had deeper meaning behind them, as though he knew the kitten and her Master were up to something. Clover had to throw them off of the trail quickly so that he didn't grow suspicious of them. "Clover thinks heroes are stupid," the kitten declared with a huff, crossing her arms.

"No such thing as heroes, Clover doesn't think. Only police officers," if everyone became a hero, it would be much harder for Clover and Erika to operate. The kitten wasn't dumb and even if she wasn't as smart as a human, she knew that Eamon sneaking around could spell trouble for the duo. "Clover thinks magic is dangerous," perhaps it would be best if she kept her mouth shut for now. Fiyero poked his head inside, wondering what they were doing. "Learning magic I see," he grinned. The fox had his own magic of course and today, he was sporting a neat, three piece suit, no doubt an original Eamon design. "I've got good news," the boy strode into the room, putting away one of those fancy screens. Clover wondered why the familiar needed such human technology.

"Eamon, there's a reporter that wants to feature your designs in an art magazine." Clover looked between Eamon and Fiyero, uncertain what this meant. "She wants you to choose two models and submit all photos by the end of the week." Fiyero grinned his fox-like grin, "the theme for this feature is vigilantes and magic." Basically, Eamon would need to design a superhero suit. Clover's tail wagged when she heard this, wondering if it meant that the Blue Lotus and Tiger Lily would be receiving real costumes at last. It seemed to be a popular subject, heroes and villains, the whole of Min City was thirsting for a savior and it seemed that at long last, they would be getting one. Of course, the duo weren't the most conventional pair, but they were the heroes that the city deserved.

Bringers of justice, angels of the night, Clover and Erika would serve to protect all those who needed it.

When Fiyero burst in, Erika returned to attention. She glanced back and forth between Clover and Eamon. While the flutist was very well known for how spacy she was, she was also quite perceptive and could read things off of people's faces if she had to. Clover seemed a bit nervous, her tail was stiff instead of the usual swish it liked to have, and Eamon's jaw was set as if he too was stressed about something. Maybe he was just doing his usual bullying, but then why was Clover looking so tight-lipped? It was probably that Eamon was suspecting - "And Eamon wants you two to be his models!" Fiyero decided with a wicked looking smile that looked more like he deserved to be punched in the nose again.

Don't think the oh-so-great Erika Harrington would forget about touching her cat, Fiyero! Clover was only for her to touch, no one else. It was a bit surprising to realize how possessive she was of the feline, though. "Wait, what?" Eamon was more than a bit startled. "Why do I want to make them my models?" Fiyero's grin grew wider and it was obvious he had a surprise hidden up his ugly robe that honestly didn't look the slightest bit professional. For being a servant of a clothes designer, he had quite the gaudy outfit. It made Erika think of a bald fat monk who liked to dig his finger into his belly button to smell the lint. Except Fiyero's lint probably smelled like mana, since familiars don't really sweat. "Why? Because what's better than vigilantes than getting the real Blue Lotus and Tiger Lily to do it for us?"

Eamon crossed arms so tight Erika almost stopped to wonder how long it would take to turn arms into pretzels. "Ugh, Fiyero, I wanted to pretend! It's less awkward that way!" Fiyero looked like he was ready to break into song and dance. Probably not a very good song, either. "But it's more fun for me this way!" It's not like he was tightly wound enough or anything, maybe a pretzel, nice and fresh and softly baked - no, freshly baked - would cheer him up. Oh, wait, Fiyero just - "If you don't have evidence for that claim-" If anything, Fiyero looked like he was trying to do an impression of the Cheshire Cat. Sadly for him it just made him look like a lecher, unless that was just Erika's bias kicking in. "Here you go." He flipped through photos from his phone to reveal them in shadows, changing into their new design. "We had a suspicion ever since the whole Balloon Bomber thing." Eamon said, rolling his eyes. "So I had Fiyero tail you... and this was what he decided to take a photo of? Really?" It was a shot of the day where they finally apprehended the Bomber.

"So." Fiyero licked his lips in a way that made Erika want to tear them off and feed them to Clover. Maybe that would even give her mana? No, that probably wasn't how it worked, you idiot. "I'll let you delete this stuff off my phone if you two agree to model for us." Eamon groaned, it seemed it wasn't him who put his perverted familiar up to this, this was entirely Fiyero's doing. "Or else, maybe I'll give that cute reporter girl a call? Elsbeth? She does have a nice decent sized chest and-" Erika decided not to listen as Fiyero described the reporter's chest. "Sorry." She murmured to Clover. This was her fault for not being more careful, wasn't it? How could they miss Fiyero? Was she just too focused on getting rid of that balloon jerk that day? "I can't think of anything to get us out of this." Eamon swiped the phone quickly and pocketed it. "You know I can use alchemy to add special protective qualities to fabrics, right?" He wasn't good for spells, but that was something he could do. "I'll make you two something that'll actually be able to protect you. And it'll look good, too." His eyes were sparkling - maybe he was finally warming up to Clover.

How did Erika guess that? Well, it was probably because during this entire talk Eamon was unconsciously running his hands through Clover's head fur.

And what was happening with the Bernard household as this was happening? Well, something very obvious because what else would it be? "Your job was to protect my son." Harvey Bernard shouted through his tears. He and a few servants stood at the Wall of Glory. They were going to banish Maple to the other side because she failed in her task. "I took you in, I trained you and taught you magic, and you couldn't even save my child!" The police grabbed her by the arms. "Get her out of my sight." Later that day Bernard would be found in his office, in pieces. The official report would say that it was a magical explosion of too much mana, an accident... but who knew what the truth was?

As for Maple, she wandered the ghetto of the poor side of the Residential District, crying as she walked. She failed, she was cast out, and now she might never get to see Clover ever again. That night, she was found by someone. That someone pulled the black cat into the shadows. "You look like you're having a hard time, Maple." This hooded person was the True Heroine, of course. "Do you want to get your sister back?" Maple didn't know who it was, of course. The True Heroine was very good at staying out of pictures or the public eye. "If you join me and help us, you'll see her again. We'll even guarantee her safety once we can take down the Wall of Misery." That was what those on this side of the wall called it.

Maple nodded, because she knew she had no other options left. "Then welcome to the Revolution." A bright smile full of hidden intentions greeted her. "They call me the True Heroine."
