As the barriers between worlds break down, a fight breaks out for the survival of both. STILL OPEN FOR CHARACTERS

Introduction

Image

Once upon a time, there was a land named Atleos. All the fairy tale characters we know and love live there; their stories bleeding through into our world, and our stories bleeding through into theirs. Our two worlds were separate, and both could all peacefully live out their lives without knowing of the existence of other.

But one day, something changed. The barriers between the worlds were weakened; Soon, people began to switch between the worlds when their lives matched up just a little too well. As the barriers grow weaker, and more and more people begin to switch between worlds, a journey begins to save the lands of Atleos and Earth alike.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This roleplay will take place in two worlds; the real world and the world of Fairy Tales. Every player will control two characters; one in the real world, and one in the fantasy world. The 'main' story that is in place (trying to return to your home universe) is only a guideline, and sub-plots and adventures unrelated to the main plot are encouraged. The longer we can draw the main plot out, the more time we have for character development and adventuring.

When creating a character, start with a fairy tale character that you feel comfortable with. Try to avoid popular characters such as Cinderella and Red Riding Hood, and stick to the lesser known characters, or characters that have more room for proper development. Edits to the stories the character comes from are welcomed, but make sure that they match.

For the real world characters, make up an original character and choose a way for their life to match that of their fairy tale counterpart. Remember: YOUR CHARACTERS DO NOT NEED TO ACT THE SAME! They switch places by matching positions across realities; they could have polar opposite personalities. Try to keep it variable and interesting.

Please remember that characters CAN die. You can kill off one character and leave the other alive; but be warned, if a character dies in one world the other character will be unable to switch back to their native world. This may or may not be a problem for you; you may want to leave your characters in their new world.

You can create your own original character (we would recommend this), but there are a few characters that can become part of the roleplay that are available. If you wish to take one of these characters, please PM me. They are:
Princess Signy, Prince Ring, and Prince Asmund. THESE ROLES DO NOT HAVE TO BE FILLED FOR THE ROLEPLAY.

This roleplay will be GMed by multiple people. Please contact either me or The Angry Penguin for different information. The two of us will control various NPCs that you meet (bartenders, taxi drivers, woodsmen) as well as the two queens that rule over the world. Ideally, the roleplay should be driven by the players and we should only need to fill up the world-building roles.

Also, when submitting your character please send me a PM with a general idea of how you want them to switch worlds. We want everyone to switch during their intro posts, so I just want this to make sure people are clear on how it works.

Toggle Rules

1. None of the Disney Princesses or well-known characters (i.e. Cinderella, Red Riding Hood... use your judgement. I'll message you if I think it's too well known.) Remember, if you are using a pre-existing fairy tale character, do not change their name in the fantasy world.
2. No Animal Characters
3. No God-Modding
4. No Mary Sues
5. If I get two submissions with the same fairy-tale character, I will choose the most interesting one. If I can't decide, I will PM you both and ask if you want to change.
6. Try to keep your characters Good or Neutral alignment. Villain characters are fine as long as, upon switching, they will work with the good characters to try to get back.
7. CHARACTERS DO NOT NEED TO ACT OR LOOK THE SAME BETWEEN WORLDS. The fairy-tale character Malificent could switch with an elderly woman who works at animal shelters, as long as the situation matches up.
8. Try to keep posts of an appropriate length; if you want to have a quick conversation with someone, feel free to craft it with them through PMs and make it one large post.
9. Read other's posts carefully before responding--you don't want to contradict things they did.
10. Be nice! People make honest mistakes, politely correct them through PMs or OOC.

Sibyl looked into the bowl of cooling fluid she now kept permanently on her desk, and was greeted by a much more hideous face staring back at her. The woman-if she could be called that-was giving yet another one of her ridiculous soliloquies about how she'd destroy her enemies and take back her throne once more.

"She thought she could take MY kingdom! HAH! We'll show that goody little Queen exactly what she's messed with, and THEN who'll be living in this ruin of a castle?!" Queen Grimhild screamed at the ceiling.

"That's all very nice," Sibyl said, "But we don't even know if this will work..."

"Of course it will!" the Queen snapped, glaring into her mirror, "Don't tell me you doubt me now..."

"Of course not!" Sibyl said quickly, pulling back from her pool and looking away from the deathly stare the queen was giving her. "I'm just saying we've never been able to test this, and it was pure luck that I was able to make contact in the first place..."

"Ah, but you didn't have me, my dear," the Queen cackled, "I can assure you; as long as you keep your connection active, this curse will coat the land with my wrath."

"But how will we know if it worked?" Sibyl asked.

"Don't worry; I've got that all worked out. Listen to me..."

"Cain! Come here!" Queen Grimhild shouted, moving away from the mirror. She walked to the center of the room and prepared herself to cast the spell. She heard the door open behind her. "Ah, good. I require your assistance for a second." She pointed to several instruments on the table. "I am casting a curse that requires those to be in an exact position. Take the vial in your left hand; the spellbook under your arm; Yes, now put the ladle between your fore and middle fingers of the right hand; Good, good..." The queen looked into her mirror out of the corner of her eye, making sure that Cain matched the position of the man standing on the other side.

"Ready?!" She shouted, smiling evilly. She returned to the center of the room and began to chant. "Ianua inter regnis aperite ut hosties meam non videre possim, et ianua non clausus fuit donec talis tempo ut mors meam captuisset!" On her final word, she let her arms fly outwards and release the energy of the spell into the world. She looked up to watch Cain, as he vanished from the world to be replaced by a small, spindly man in strange cloths.

Sibyl heeded the Queen's instructions and called out for the nearest person. "Nathan!" She shouted, and the man came running. "I'm about to run an experiment-I need you to hold some things for me." Sibyl walked around the room, acting like she was setting up equipment, handing Nathan random objects until he couldn't hold any more. She returned to her desk and looked into the bowl; "Now what?"

Her answer didn't come as she saw the queen begin to cast her curse in her own world, and she stepped back from the bowl out of instinct. She turned to Nathan, "Wait right there," she said, and continued to twiddle with the dials on her machine, without actually changing anything. Suddenly, she heard some objects drop behind her, and she turned to see a strange, strong-looking man standing where Nathaniel had been.

Cain of the Lyrin, captain of the Queen's guard, nodded at his Queen, “Yes, my Lady.”

As he proceeded to do as she instructed and when she began to chant in one of the few languages he didn't know he became confused, there seemed to be a shift....something was not right.

There seemed to be a primordial roar spanning universes, forcing the two men from their homes. The felt they were splitting into billions of pieces, shattering upon the ground with the force of a tidal wave. But yet it did not cause pain, the sensation of tingling as the men were forced into the exact same location at the exact same time.

The wolf became the man and the man became the wolf and then they fused becoming one in an instant of reality and in that instant they were forced, pushed in the opposite direction than from whence they came. They both cried out at a sudden shock as they were ripped from their homes, torn from the very fabric of their reality and tossed unceremoniously into the others.

The swap had lasted less than a second, the men had been in their own respective realities and with but a second to blink they had swapped and stood before different women than when they did their task.

Cain dropped the random objects that his queen had given him and drew his handbow, aiming at the woman who was standing before him. He then recognized her as the important individual he had seen his Queen speaking to through her mirror. He quickly lowered his handbow and bowed to the lady, "My apologies ma'am, it is not often I am subject to My Lady's whims. My I enquire as to my location."

Nathan looked about him in confusion, the random junk dropping as his arms fell. He swung around the room looking for a familiar sight but could find none. All he saw was an incredibly unattractive woman standing by a mirror. He recognized her from somewhere but didn't care enough to delve into his memories and asked the ugly broad, "Where the hell am I?"

Miranda sat on the window seat of her chambers in Ethanova Castle with a thin book open in her lap. The room in which she sat was decorated with blue tapestries embroidered with golden patterns. Rich mahogany bookcases and ornate tables coupled with chairs lined the walls save for the space that was occupied by the bed and armoire. The rest of the castle was decorated in a similar fashion to her chambers.

She looked out the window and surveyed the area around the castle. It was settled upon a small mountain, taking up the entire peak. The sea was only a short distance away from the castle and Miranda enjoyed watching the sun reflect off of it like a mirror.

A servant knocked on her door and then opened it, “Your majesty, there is someone who has come to see you. A member of the guard has received urgent reports that must be immediately attended to.”

Miranda nodded and closed her book, tossing it onto the window seat. Standing up she walked past the servant and added, “Thank you, my dear. I’ll be on my way now!” She smiled at the man before making her way to the red sitting room.

The door to the room was already open so she entered. Sitting in a chair close to the door waited a middle-aged man. Immediately upon her entrance into the room he stood up and bowed deeply, to which Miranda responded with, “There’s no need for that,” and a closed-lip smile.

“What might you have come to inform me off?” Miranda gracefully pulled a chair out next to him before anyone could do it for her, and sat down.

The man’s face flushed red in embarrassment because he had let her pull her own chair out, “I, uh, have this list of missing persons. In the last week or so people have been disappearing. Some of the names are alarming…” he said as he handed her a scroll.

Lounging back, she unrolled the scroll and read the names, “Cinderella, oh she’s a dear friend of mine… Alice Liddell,” she paused remembering Alice’s help in her ascension to the throne, “Prince Charming… he and Cinderella must have disappeared at the same time otherwise I would have heard of it…” The list went on. Having seen enough she rolled the scroll up and said, “I’ll begin investigation on this at once, these poor people must want to return home soon…” Curtsying slightly to the man with a smile, she left the room as the man tried to bow back in a very flustered manner.

On her way to beach side gardens, she ran into a member of her court. In fact, it was just the man she was looking for, “Ah, Sir Percival!” She handed the scroll to him as she floated by, “I need you to investigate the disappearances of these people,” by the time she finished speaking she was a good distance down the hallway, “Thank you!” Miranda lightly waved as she turned a corner leaving the man with the list.

She continued on to the gardens in search of her son, Prince Ring, to warn him of the rampant disappearances. Ring often sat outside in the gardens with his beloved wife Princess Signy. As a result, Miranda was almost positive she would find them there.

Sarah slapped a copy of that day’s New York Times onto her desk and sighed as she stood up. The science and technology section was covering, yet again, research by KRI that was suspected of inhumane testing methods. Picking her jacket of the back of her chair and grabbing her purse she began to walk down to a restaurant that she frequented for lunch.

KRI was always under suspicion of malpractice, but they were never caught. Their lawyers were slippery and always got them out of a pinch. It infuriated Sarah—it was beyond her how they could bring themselves to use the most ruthless methods possible. There were always other ways to do it.

Preoccupied with her thoughts, she arrived at the restaurant without even realizing it. Her usual table was in the back corner, somewhat removed from the rest of the restaurant. As usual, that table was open so the hostess showed her to the usual table.

To the Great North Winds, awakes The Crimson Monk. His blood is going out of control and slowly ripping him apart. This can only means that the Blood Moon is here and will be at full strength. When the moon is highest in the sky, the cloudless night gives him full access to all the secrets in his body. He purges himself and begins to suspend his blood in midair. Forming the ball, using it as a spear, and making it coagulate into a solid. Just as soon as the Monk finishes his lunge and Takeo finishes lunge at the thugs, a rift between their worlds has opened and they have both entered a strange new world.

Takeo is wondering something along the lines of, where the hell am I, why am I here, but its none of the above. Instead he is wondering why on Earth is he on a mountain pavilion about the size of a courtyard and the worst is, it is snowing with summer clothes on. Just as soon as he got to be acquainted with his new surroundings, an essimary came to him about a job. Takeo protested this and said "I am not who you think I am". The essimary said "I know who you are you are an assassin and this is your target for your pay; good day." This entire evening he thought was too crazy to sort out without sleep and wanted to think about this situation another day.

Takeo awakes not from the lunar eclipse but from the thugs messing around in his home. He silently wakes up and moves downstairs to take the thugs by surprise. His girlfriend flees to the closet not to get involved and watches impatiently for what happens next. Just as soon as the Monk finishes his lunge and Takeo finishes lunge at the thugs, a rift between their worlds has opened and they have both entered a strange new world.

The Crimson Monk, in all his glory stares at the strange house. He sees trash, dirt, and three thugs all staring quizzically at the new man. Before they even give a second thought, they jump at the monk and catch him off guard. The Monk did not take this lightly and began his rampage. The nest thing that the thugs knew was that after one punch thug #1 had a ruptured intestine. Thug #2 has his left triceps muscles ripped apart and is bleeding at the site. Thug #3 fled after seeing the carnage and ran back to tell his boss. There was much to discuss but only for another day.

Queen Grimhild looked the man up and down. He looked like the man she'd heard about in the mirror. She turned to speak into the mirror. After a quick conversation, she turned to the man and smiled, displaying her magically decayed teeth. "Sorry, but we no longer require your services. Guards!"

Two massive, undead creatures burst through the doors, grabbing the man. "Take him away," she said, waving her hand and turning back to the mirror to check up on Sibyl. She shouted back after the creatues, "And tell Garen he's got a promotion!"

The guards dragged the man to the front gates, ignoring his weak resistance. They threw him to the ground outside the gates, leaving him outside in the harsh dead forests of Prydain. They then shut the door in his face.

She let go of him and looked at him properly, then backed away in a hurry. He had dark gray skin, and he loomed over her. She turned to speak into the bowl on her desk. She kept her voice down, muttering into the glass until her conversation was over. She promptly stood and turned to the man, "Uhh... right. You're in... Well, I don't really know how to explain it. You're in New York."

Sibyl looked into the bowl on her desk, "It worked! He's here!" The hideous face of Queen Grimhild loomed back at her.

"Yes, I know it is, you overexcited prissy. Your man just arrived and made a mess of my chambers," the Queen hissed back at her, "I have to deal with this, hold on a minute."

Sibyl hurriedly spoke into the bowl, "Don't hurt him. He hasn't done anything wrong, you know. You're not going to-" The queen returned to her mirror.

"Don't worry, Miss Volur. Everything is fine. He'll be well taken care of," the Queen lied. "Now, I want you to make sure Cain doesn't get the word out about this in your world. Now that the barrier's open, people will start finding themselves face-to-face with a world they've never known. If they trace it back to you, there's no chance for our plan to go through. You can't let him gather any of the other tranferences."

"But..." Sibyl protested.

"Do what you have to do," the Queen hissed, before turning and leaving the mirror. Sibyl grimaced, before turning to the man standing opposite her.

A new day has risen and the monk now in more world appropriate clothes is exploring what is in this new world. He hears sounds artificial and metallic. He smells the pollution of the near by factories. No planet should live like this in this strange new world. When he sat down for breakfast, he was accompanied by Takeo´s girlfriend Brenda.
¨Do you fear me?¨said the monk.
¨I seen worse¨ she said.
¨Well then, can you tell me what is in this world you have? It seems that I could be stuck here for a while.¨ he said.
¨I guess, but a few rules. No fancy kung fu crap in the house unless for defending yourself. Do as I say and you won´t get killed. Lastly...
(*chuckle)
"What?" she said.
"You obviously don't know me then, I don't die nor do I lose." he said.
"Well honey there is always a first for everything and losing is always the first to go. Arrogance will kill you whether you know it or not. Lastly, you can find you own place to sleep because there is no room in the bedroom seeing how its in shambles as well as the kitchen."
"No problem and besides I don't sleep."
"Glad to see we are at an agreement. So first thing to know, is the law. most important to someone like you is no killing, stealing, or disturbing the peace if so you can get caught and get sent to jail."
"So what you are saying is don't get caught and do what is necessary."
"I guess you can say that."
The hours roll by, and the monk is now fairly acquainted with his new world but still is not at ease for something is lurking in the shadows and there are many of them.

Nathan wandered through the forest, staggering over roots and through bushes. He eventually came upon a clearing dotted with farms. Making his way to the small village on the far side of the clearing. He walked along a lane, passing several locals dressed in what he assumed to be early Victorian-esque type farmer's outfits. They stared at his more modern clothing and he returned his own in kind. Reaching the town he saw what appeared to be a vendor of some kind.

Walking up to the man he asked, "What town is this?"
The vendor looked at him and took in his clothes saying, "We go's lot'sa folks he'e I ne'er seen youse afore."
Nathan wincing at the utter butchery of the English language, "I am not from around here, would you tell me where the nearest...inn is?"
"Do'n tha ways a bit. teh boar's 'ead."
Nodding and thanking the man he said his thanks and headed toward the inn in question.
