Re: Polygamy in Islam

Fallacy, given that I'm an Atheist and don't believe in faith-based belief systems as justifications for any kind of amoral behavior, I hold that marriage between a couple-- not the establishment of rights or recognition, but the tendency of two people to gravitate toward one another and for society...

Re: Favourite TV Series and Why?

Dexter: Effing amazing. No explanation needed. The books are even more horrific than the series. The Borgias: I am a history fanatic. This is the most stunningly shot series I've ever seen. How the Universe Works: Anything about physics has my attention, especially if it's accurate. Through the Worm...

Re: Animals or Human? Who Has the Right to Earth?

Let's remember that humans ARE animals. Our cognition means only that evolution is progressing, and we may not end up being the only cognitive children of the evolutionary chain. While we may give ourselves the 'right to the earth' by default because we 'think, therefore we are' and can recognize th...

Re: Is Marriage a Religious or Legal Institution?

'A rose by any other name would smell as sweet' -- this right here is my opinion on the matter. I honestly don't give a damn what you want to call it: marriage, civil union, ball-and-chaining, whatever - as long as the rights conveyed are exactly the same. There is no reason why gay couples should ...

Re: Polygamy in Islam

Polygamy almost always refers to men being able to have more than one wife and not the other way around, although that doesn't increase my approval of it any more. But I absolutely believe all forms of multiple-marriages should be utterly and completely banned without exception, everywhere in the wo...

Re: Hello/Konnichi wa

Welcome to the boards. Eric has done a wonderful job in advancing how we both participate in and perceive message board role play. We have an ever-active 'Chat' tab where you can both converse with other roleplayers and roleplay with them inside the RPGateway universe. He has also set up an ingeniou...

Re: What color is an orange in the dark?

The first answer is the most fitting answer. It isn't a color at all. Once there is no light (an objective factor, not a subjective/variable factor like color blindness), and you cannot perceive the color, the color isn't there. Because the existence of color requires light refraction, the absence o...

Re: The Roleplayer and Writer's Guide to Naming Conventions

Ylanne, would you like me to write out the Russian naming conventions? I am extremely well versed in them.

Re: Pretty much new to role play- help!

I definitely agree with Matthias. The bolding and centering really throws people off that you're new around here, because it just doesn't read right. It's easiest for people to read regular paragraphs like Matthias and I have. Stylizing posts sometimes is alright (within reason; still, no all-boldin...

Re: Need Some Help

If you need any additional help, let me know. Looks like Nyu has this one. What you're looking to expand on is "character dynamics"; you need to flesh out a dynamic, changing, growing, developing character. Flat characters are characters that do not have any change, no dynamic to their per...

Re: Need some help with my characters history

A neat thing that we're pretty certain of about ninjas, going back to what the previous poster said, is that they actually didn't dress up in black outfits very often. This was probably actually similar to a martial artist's gi in that it was probably a standard uniform they trained in, but not what...

Re: Curse Ye, O Murderer of Roleplays

I don't know if this will provide any insight, but short posts usually (as QB said) have to do with a lack of introspection. But you must keep in mind that too much introspection can also be filler. What you must ask yourself before you write it down is 'Will this DO anything for the character or th...

Re: [character submitting questions..]

You can use either, but typically if they bother to post a sheet skeleton in the roleplay's introduction, it's because they want you to use it instead because it may be more thorough or address particular things they want to know about your character that aren't covered in the site's skeleton.

Re: Hey babe, sorry you caught me cheating... on you.

Sometimes it's really not that easy. Take a man who is engaged with a child who is stressed out and unsatisfied with his sex life. His cheating is purely sexual. He loves his fiance or wife dearly and doesn't want to not end up with her, he's just looking for a release. He couldn't really leave if h...

Re: Online Mates

I'm engaged and had a child with a man I've known for seven years on the internet, we only started dating after my eighteenth birthday but he came to see me with some extra money he'd gotten, stayed for a week, and a month later came back to live. Been living together ever since and we have a fourte...

Re: Another reminder about the Discussion/Debate forum

That may be so, Skallagrim, but the definition for 'discussion' is much looser and likely where they're finding the basis for rant posts, since it pretty much means an 'informal debate' (without the bells and whistles of a real debate, leaving more gray area for emotional ranting and anecdotal evide...

Re: Character Species, Lul, whut?

You need to attach some sort of leverage to a plain, powerless human to give the human the upper hand among power characters; that is, a reason for them to keep him/her alive. It's all a part of character development, which also encompasses the personality, given that without powers one must concent...

Re: Character Species, Lul, whut?

I honestly think the hardest character for anybody to play is a plain old, powerless human. Maybe that's just me or from what I've experienced, though.

Re: DC vs Marvel!

I have to say Marvel. If you look at the selection of DC heros, they are few and far between in ones that are truly impressive. Batman, for instance, is my favorite--- and he's DC, as well as the whole myriad of characters from his comics. However, other than him and maybe one or two others, DC does...
