Eclectic tastes?

Tips: 0.00 INK Postby Kouketsu on Mon Feb 18, 2008 4:08 pm

So, in part because of my continued effort to invigorate the music forum here on RPGateway and also because I like giving people new music to listen to and discovering new music myself, a look along the 'Fave bands' thread was a pretty decent indicator of musical tastes here on Gateway. That being said, however, there is a severe lack in variety, particularly in those musical acts and genres that we could label 'eclectic.' So somebody here validate my existence by telling me that you don't invest your time in listening to the same four or five repetitive genres, and please, if possible, give some suggestions. My ears refuse to ever be completely satisfied.

Few things are better in music than an open mind. So broaden your horizons:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fohk94TTg38 - Not eclectic. This is music.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rQFPDckw_sw - Wow, nice. Different, but nice.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JsD6uEZsIsU - this song makes me melt, in a good way.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QKeXWEYCSI - great music, but unfortunately a bad recording.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Jv3b0VKec8 - this seems like something I'd have played in high school.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpf3bDpzq5E - Another great French artist, but I like Alizee better.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5tjSw4vAXs - I hate the term J-rock. Amazing band.

Eclectic? Are you kidding me? Good choices, man. Bravo.

Um...No, that's not it, Drako. "Broaden your horizons" not "post mainstream music that everyone's heard". This is all about finding NEW bands. Not the stuff everyone knows and already loves or hates.

I've been whoring this link out for ages, but everyone needs to give this a listen to:

FLAMETAL.

Listen to Bruja Tortura first. It's flamenco + metal, thusly, Flametal.

Oh, and I can hook you up with lots of other Cuban stuff as well, if you like, since you put up that Ry Cooder thing. It's mostly salsa, though. But damn good slasa, the kind that raises the dead!
As you recall, you know I love to show off,
But you never thought that I would take it this far.
What do you know?

Fancy a Butcher's?

I'd actually love some salsa, to be honest. There's an unfortunate lack of it in my collection.

For awhile now I've really been attempting to dig into different ethnic and traditional genres around the world, but it's really a difficult market of things to explore because availability is poor in the U.S. unless one is prepared to shell out way too much money.

- Ry Cooder: Approve.

Kouketsu wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9QKeXWEYCSI
- I think I saw them live. I don't think so, because I think the guys I saw live were better.
Kouketsu wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3Jv3b0VKec8
- I have no patience for songs like these, to be honest.
Kouketsu wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bpf3bDpzq5E
- Pretty good, though I don't like her voice. & Eric, you like Alizee because she's lolilove, don't lie.
Kouketsu wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=z5tjSw4vAXs
- Sorry, but this is flimsy. There are lots more american bands who do this better. In fact, there are lots more bands from other countries who do it better as well. Though, not gonna lie, a lot of americans are shit at it too.

- I think Opeth does this better, but I'm diggin' the violins.

Lord Saladin wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zLaUgi1AzC0

Lord Saladin wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OhOstwxcwWs

-Corny! But I heart it.

Lord Saladin wrote:http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oOkxI2YtZXw
- Also corny. And wasn't this really popular? If not, it probably just sounds like every other song in this genre, haha.

I'm surprised you listen to some of the things you do, Salad!
