Maron woke up last second securing her body with a thick rock armor, stopping the bullet. She shot a spear like creation through Chad, watching him vanish into thin air like he was never there. She looked up in horror, "It's all been an illusion?" She questioned as she succumbed into unconsciousness once more.
Wing followed the Kama's and Kamachi's closely. Each one clear, even though they flew around at breakneck speeds. Something seemed to be inconsistent about them though. He closed his eyes and chuckled. "Of course, this is a trick. It's all been a trick, a DAMN TRICK!"
Twilight exploded around the room, emanating from Wing, wind encased the girls protecting them from the celestial magic, so full of rage. He let it all out, the anger of being tricked, the inadequacy of not realizing it sooner, the sorrow for Darius, the anger of the current state of affairs, Xavier's betrayal, everything. The illusions, the summoned tree, the weapons, every trace of the battle vanished in an instant. He hit the floor hard, but managed to struggle to his knees. He punched the floor, still feeling like a failure. "What's wrong with me?!" Aero floated safely to his side, the cocoon of wind still surrounding her injured body. He looked from her to Maron, and felt anger burn inside him again. Not for Kamachi, Chad or Kama, but for at himself.
"I'm sorry, I couldn't protect you both...I didn't think things would get this heated. They shouldn't have, but I still should have been able to protect you both from this pain."
He sighed, feeling the familiar grip of talons on his forlorn shoulder, like the comforting hand of a close friend. He reached up and pet the bird gently, who cooed softly, trying to comfort its master. He wanted to run, find way to go back, back to the days in Maroon town as a kid. He wished he could just forget it all. Become ignorant of the coming disaster, and die quick and painlessly with everyone else.
"You can't do that, and You know it. Even if you did manage to go back in time, you'd still have the memories, or at least the fleeting feeling of them."
He looked up to see Hadrian, arms folded across his chest, smirk on his face. "You can't win them all, be glad they are on your side and not the enemy's." He extended his hand for Wing to grab, he did and nodded, smiling softly, though it was obviously fake. It didn't matter what any one told him, he knew these things, feeling inadequate is something one needs to get over on their own.
Lucus was at his side now, hand over Aero, healing her with his limited powers over Light magic. Maron was waking up slowly, blinking her eyes to adjust them to the bright lights.
"So, where are you going from here?" Hadrian asked. "We're going after the gang that hijacked Nulix's company. They're after some artifacts out in the unexplored area of the Ulfire system...why?"
Hadrian shook his head, Merely a question I assure you. We just decided to drop in and see how you were doing. The rest of our armies are busy training, so there's not much else to do."
Wing nodded his understanding, watching Aero come to. She had tears in her eyes, but blinked them away, unknowingly. She sat up and looked around.
"We won?"
Wing nodded, "If you want to call it that. Or even a battle for that matter..." He looked over to Maron who was now standing, she nodded. "They were all illusions, the only real thing were their weapons." Aero looked shocked, but she realized that it all made sense.
Hadrian looked over at Lucus and nodded. "Well, we'll see you soon then. Just wanted to see how you were doing. Remember what I said now." They each vanished within their own respectful portals. "Right..." Wing sighed, helping Aero to her feet.
"Good job you guys. Next time I'll find more fair partners for you to spar against."
