Introduction

The year is 2020...

In 2012, a landmass roughly thrice the size of Manhattan formed in the center Gulf of Mexico after an explosion of unknown origin. In no time at all the landmass became the target of corporations, the United States government, and all manner of different people all seeking to extract knowledge, power, and control over the mysterious entity that kept the island afloat...

Underneath the island a giant sphere of energy called the "Lacuna" swirls constantly in the ocean giving the land above near garden of eden attributes and a natural source of energy that far exceeds solar power, wind power, and oil in use and efficiency. Needless to say in the span of 8 years the landmass, now the 51st official state of the U.S.A. has become a futuristic metropolis that far exceeds Manhattan, Tokyo, and any other large cities in the world in culture, production, and population. Many would call New Congress it's own country.

As crime in New Congress began to peak three heroes would steal the heart of the Country. Caucus, The Vote, and Glory would make up the Paradigm VIII, following the tradition of a brotherhood of America's finest champions. In every war and time of strife there was always a Paradigm that stood out as symbols of freedom and justice. The Paradigm VIII would continue this brotherhood and protect the young New Congress from any kind of threat that came upon the land.

However in early 2020 there was a massive flux of energy from the Lacuna. Shortly thereafter numerous super-powered beings began to terrorize New Congress. These individuals had powers that were once only thought of as the product of comic-book imaginations! However the threat became all too real.

The Paradigm VIII tried desperately to protect their home, but as the threats continued desperation sunk in. New Congress became a dangerous place to live, a far-cry from the Utopia it once was. Corporations have hired their own armies and have become increasingly hostile with one another as well as the populous. Gangs, cartels, and mafias sprung all around the Land. The Police Force and American government became nearly powerless to stop the tide of anarchy from crushing New Congress. The three members of the ParadigmVIII became the last hope of New Congress.

Our story begins with that hope being crushed......and a desperate need of new heroes to take their place!

1. No godmodding and autohitting (if unsure of what this means, just ask me)
2. Every post IC must be at least 3 paragraphs and/or 20 sentences! This is the minimum requirement, so please do not apply if you are not willing to make the effort.
3. Cursing and violence is accepted and expected to happen, but please keep it within the boundaries of the ToS.
4. No sex on script, please be respectful and take it to PM.
5. I want this roleplay to be active with at least 1-2 posts a week per character; so please do not apply if you are not willing or able to honor this. Of course if you ever have something come up, just notify me and that's acceptable.
6. Do not injure, disfigure, or kill a person's character without their permission (this goes along the lines of "autohtting").
7. Keep unnecessary mistakes to a minimum. By that I mean always read over your writing and grammar/spell check.
8. Deus Ex Machina: where an author uses some improbable (and often clumsy) plot device to work his or her way out of a difficult situation. Keep this out of the RP because no one likes to read it and its below the level I expect this RP to be.
9. Custom/Original characters only. There should not be any Wolverines, Supermen, or Wonder Women about.
10. Please try to keep fantasy characters to a minimum. The story takes place in the future so there better be a good reason why there is an elf running around.
11. As teamwork & cooperation are important to this RP, do not ignore someone's post.
12. While I am mainly looking for heroes, if you believe that you can bring to the RP an exceptional villain please do not hesitate to apply. Know that bringing in a villain means that you will be fought by the primary cast and that you are alright with the probability of your character being defeated/killed.
13. And Please, have loads of fun! I love comic book characters and the chaos that can ensue. If you have ANY kind of suggestions for plots, episodes please don't hesitate to message me and let me know.

She flickered in and out of his field of vision with blinding speed. The sting of the blades, tearing his thickened hide, leaving behind their signatures, carved into his flesh. He roared. He was not used to this feeling. Pain. It was something he inflicted, not something he felt. He flung his fists again and again, each time the woman dodged effortlessly. He roared again, the frustration building in his chest. Something inside him, some unknown force, awakened then.

He threw another punch and again the woman dodged, her six extra arms, each wielding a blade, danced out and made him pay for the attack, cutting through to the bone with grace and precision. The punch continued powered by its own momentum, colliding with and tearing up pieces of the road. He felt a dull throb at the back of his mind, unconsciously he began to nudge the probability fields around him, twisting fate to suit his purposes. A large chunk of the road bounced directly at the woman's head, big enough to be a game ender if it connected. She span like a ballerina to avoid it, leaving her open to another attack. Black Friday saw his opportunity and came in for the kill, throwing his entire force behind a single punch.

Suddenly, it felt like there were fingers clawing at his brain, digging into his mind, suffocating his own intentions and replacing them with mocking laughter. His arm spasmed and stopped inches from its target. His fingers began to twitch as if he were learning to use them for the first time before they flew to close around his own throat. Unable to comprehend what was happening, he stood there as he began to choke himself. Soon he began to black out, unable to fight his own mutinous body, he managed to utter a single word that had never escaped his mouth before.
"M-mercy," he stammered.

Ileana sighed and performed the proper fuctions to record her movie. As always she silently cursed her brother and had her house take care of his chores. He could at the very least pretend they were normal and offer to hand the guy's coat up himself... Still, she couldn't really say anything. Decoh only cooked dinner when she nagged and nagging took energy. More energy than she would replenish with food. So it normally was such a waste to get it. This Dr. Damnation already had her indebted if she got a free meal.

She prepared the table, listening to their light conversation in the foyer. It made her feel a bit jumpy to have someone who knew in her home, but if he had earned her brother's trust, then she would go along with it. She had disappeared before. She could do it again if the need presented itself, but the inconvinience of it was great. Either way, she seated herself on one side of the table and waited for their guest to make his appearance. She took a moment to take him in as he stepped through the doorway. He was handsome, to be sure, with rich brown eyes and a lean frame, but something about his expression was off-putting. Whatever it was, though, was muted, more so when he looked at her than when he looked at her brother. As they ate, she noticed him watching her (he didn't seem to want to bother with keeping it a secret...). There was little to no conversation and Ileana was quickly becomming bored. Where was the genius level intellect Desmond had been raving about for so long? She was just short of checking out completely when her brother finally got around to introducing them.

"Alex, pleased to meet you," she said automatically, as she took his hand. It was rough and calloused. A worker's hand. Interesting. She smiled at him a bit as Desmond began to talk, clearly floundering for something to get the ball rolling. Alex's theory about Desmond's power was interesting, but unfounded to her, from what she knew of psychology. She grinned back at his smile. "How ironic," she answered. "Desmond is a bit of a dick himself. As for useless, well, he has his moments." Hmm, possibly she would like this one. She watched him with amusement as he tried in vain to answer Desmond's questions in a way that he would understand. She could practically see the struggle on his face. And then the rising emotion on Desmond's. It was clearly time for her to intervene.

"It's an interesting theory, but it is only a theory. Not well-founded enough for him to risk his already jelly-like brain. Don't you think, Desmond. The real question here, Alex, is why you are really here. Did you really feel that a cozy steak dinner was appropriate payment? Or were you planning on something else?" She leaned forward, propping her elbows onto the table and eyed him cooly. "Mind your answer," she told him with a sweet smile. "This is my home in more ways than one."

Friday
As soon as Ileana opened her mouth she had Aleksander's attention. He smiled approvingly when she mentioned Desmond's brain. His expression turned blank as she continued. In the back of his mind he was hastily analyzing her body language and intonation so he could come up with an appropriate response. She finished by enforcing her claim to the territory they were currently on like that would somehow scare him. How primitive.

"And what a fine home it is." The Doctor said calmly as his mind raced. "Thank you for allowing me in it."

"I'm sure you have much more well-founded theories regarding your brother. You have known him far longer than I have after all." A nervous smile entered Dr. Damnation's face for a moment before he managed to surpress it. If only he had his mask. "I am merely trying to give my...thoughts on the matter. As somebody with...a fresh perspective I may be able to help. That's what Science is all about, right? Sharing ideas...and bringing people together. You know, for the 'greater good'...or something."

The beautiful brown marbles that were Binary's eyes looked at him coldly. He was aware how insincere that last part sounded and pretended to cough to cover his mouth. Plan B it was. He confidently straightened his tie and when he met her gaze again his eyes stared back defiantly. "Science will free the minds of all who follow it." He said loudly and straightened his back. "If Science is God, you may consider me one of His archangels."

"It's just a metaphor. I'm not completely insane." He quietly explained to Desmond before continuing in his Dr. Damnation voice. "I have come here to seek out a mind who's might may rival my own...and eat steak. It's my favorite kind of meat but it costs a fortune and I can't prepare it myself."

"Everything I know about you Ileana, which I admit isn't much, makes you the only person I know of who might fit that description." Aleksander coughed and casually started to cut another piece off his steak. "So tell me, do you have any experience with Science? We might benefit if we work together...as partners...or you could be my assistant if you're not as smart as I was led to believe. I have found evidence to support the theory that beautiful people can't be that smart because they're hardly challenged in life. It would be a damn shame if that was the case here."

As he spoke, Ileana took in many things about Alex. It was like that sometimes. Sometimes all it took was a direct statement, and eye contact for one to be able to tell a million little details about someone else. There were a few that stood out about this Doctor Damnation. First, and foremost, it was exceedingly clear to her, and she was sure that Desmond had noticed as well, that this was not his natural setting. There was always the barest moment's hesitation before he would shift expressions, before he would speak. Mostly, he played his part well, but it was an act nonetheless. Until, that is, the word "science" fell from his lips. There was no artifice when he spoke about it and the strangest look came over his face. It took her a moment to scan her memories and find something that matched and she felt the skin on her hands start to bubble upwards as the metal ther pushed upwards, but didn't burst through. It was the look that devout people had when discussing their religion. It was that kind of honesty. Interesting.

And, of course, he thought she was beautiful.

Ileana smiled, and then chuckled, and then laughed outright, leaning back again in her seat and taking up her knife and fork again. There was no mistaking his honesty, as strangely abrasive as it was. "The greater good, indeed," she said, popping a bit of carrot into her mouth. "Don't be nervous. I'm not going to make the house hit you. Just wanted to make sure you're here for the right reasons."

She grinned and turned her head so that she could wink at her seething brother without Alex seeing. It was always refreshing when he decided he liked her enough to be protective, but really, what kind of big sister would she be if she let him get all worked up into a frenzy like this? "As for science, I'm best with computer and programing science, as well as chemistry and biochemistry. Then, there's the fact that I learn extremely quickly. My mother was a scientist and I'm pretty much her greatest research project." She let the patterns break through her hands and held them out for him to see. "As far as we know, I'm the only organic central processing unit in the world. Ever. I'm limited to what I have learned, or experienced myself, but once it's here," she tapped her temple, "it stays there, until I get rid of it." Her smile widened a bit. "And for your evidence, most pretty girls try to keep their brains under wraps. It scares away the guys. Well," she cut into her steak, considering for a moment, "Most of them, anyway.

Friday
A smirk appeared on the Doctor's face when the woman started to laugh. These two heroes turning on him was one of the last things he was scared of. Letting a revolutionary discovery pass him by was more likely to keep him up at night. Allowing one of Science's most important resources (a great mind like his own) to go to waste would be just below that. He put another piece of steak in his mouth and listened closely as he chewed on it. This really was a delicious steak.

Computers and chemistry. That was useful and may not be as limited as he had feared. Aleksander could certainly use some help in his research into robotics and the neurological processes of meta-humans. She may be able to cook up an AI which would be able to effectively utilize the machines he was building in his lab. Extensive knowledge of biochemistry is required if one hopes to understand the workings of a neuron. Of course, he had knowledge of these two things as well but it might be somewhat less than Binary's because...well he had a lot of things on his mind. Another pair of hands and cerebral hemispheres would also do much to advance the goals of Science.

Dr. Damnations eyes widened when he saw the metal seep through the skin of Ileana's hand. He almost choked on his steak. Luckily he was able to cough it up in time and make sure it went down the right way. "The only semi-organic central processing unit in the world. Amazing." He whispered and leaned closer to get a better look. "It's all starting to make sense."

The Scientist carefully put down the utensils and made a curt waving motion at Ileana's last remark. "I didn't have enough data for a conclusive study." He said dismissively, surpressing the urge to grab Ileana's hand and attempt to sample some of the metal. "Even with just this visible amount of metal in your body you shouldn't be able to function and I assume there's more. Do you know what it consists of? Could I take a sample?"

His head was now level with her hand and he studied it for a few seconds before excitedly looking up. "This makes it so much simpler! My brain shouldn't actually be able to store the amount of information that it does but if what you're telling me is true...yes that would certainly be possible with you. It brings with it an entire new set of problems though...like how is the ion flux of the neuronal membrane regulated and what prevents the metals from disturbing your vital functions? Did this 'mother', by any chance, find an answer to one of these questions?"

The scientist in him wished he had brought something to dissect her with but Aleksander seriously doubted he would be able to bring himself to harm the woman. She just proved herself to be even more interesting then he had suspected though.

Desmond listened as Alex apologized and attempted to compliment him. "Fair enough." And the young hero decided that the doctor was alright for now. Desmond remained silent and started blankly eating as he began to think about his parents and his adoption and his refusal to include himself.. In retrospect, maybe he should have.. Maybe he did need to see a psychiatrist. He heard the doctor suggest making some sort of machine to zap whatever his problem is away, the hero didn't even give it the time of day, he wasn't that trusting of the doctor yet... Even if he did trust the doctor, Desmond probably wouldn't risk ending up worse than when he started...

Desmond snapped back into reality as Alex and Ileana began to converse with each other. The hero watched as the doctor attempted to make himself look as normal as possible. He clearly wasn't used to social situations. Noticing all the small hesitations and facial rearrangements, the hero was slowly finding the doctor to be more and more human... til he switched over to his announcer voice and spat out something about being an archangel, the hero rolled his eyes to this and, almost as if the Doctor read his mind, he reassured Desmond that he wasn't completely insane. The chef couldn't help but laugh at that.

This was more entertaining than watching whatever the hell Ileana had him watching... when was that damn phone gonna get here? Either way, the hero quite enjoyed the conversation Alex and Ileana were having, Science this and science that, metal skin, a lot of brainpower, assistant, sidekick, meta-humans... what the hell was a meta-human, AI, so much science mumbo jumbo. Desmond was getting a headache. It was nice to see that Alex wasn't a complete weirdo.... okay he was a complete weirdo but he still seemed to be about as normal as everybody else in some aspects. The doctor was actually pretty alright....

The hero left his thoughts once again to see the excited Doctor rambling on asking questions using words that flew right over the cook's head. He had no idea what was going on at this point but he was enjoying it nonetheless. The young man realized that he still had food on his plate and resumed eating it, he had gotten so swept up into their conversation that he had forgotten all about his food. Come to think of it, he hadn't even touched his steak... He wondered how it tasted. The hero cut a piece and put it in his mouth........."DAMN!!!" The hero quickly covered his mouth even though it had already slipped out.... "hehe, sorry.... Not to hype myself up or anything.... but this steak is pretty good," and the hero resumed eating.

Ileana shrugged and held her hand out further, nodding her permission for him to touch. She was used to this reaction, especially from scientists and doctors. Hehe, and Dr. Damnation seemed to be both. His questions came out all at once in a rush and she grinned a bit, rolling her eyes. Yeah, this was familiar. "The last time I spoke to my mom, she had isolated traces of zinc, so that would bring it up to four distinct metals that we know of: aluminium, silicon, silver, zinc. The alloy likes to stick together, it makes it hard to isolate properly. A significant amount gathers in my hair, you can have a sample of that."

She let the metal sink back into her skin and stretched. She in a different part of her mind she wondered about how long she could keep pretending that Desmond's phone hadn't arrived yet... ugh, it would probably only last a few more hours. And now that she had been reminded of exactly how great his cooking was, it was probably best that she didn't push her luck. She frowned. She would miss having complete control over the television... the computer, and damnit she would have to give up control of the thermostat too and Desmond kept it way too hot!

While this monolouge was running in the background, Ileana was considering Alex's questions. "We don't know everything and we don't know the specifics. As far as we can tell though, because there's so much metal in my system as it is, my body just doesn't absorb it. A hyper-absorbable iron supplement had to be developped for me. We aren't sure how calcium and magnesium and all that is able to get through." She shrugged again. "As you know, it's all unprecedented..."

She jumped at Desmond's outburst, snatching her hand back between one blink and the next. Then she rolled her eyes. "Yea, you did good, bro. Might as well give you this..." The fingers on her right hand twitched minutely and a small compartment slid open from the seemingly seamles wall next to his head. A sleek silver phone with a large touch screen slid out. "It just got here this morning," she lied.

The Doctor gently took hold of Ileana's hand and turned it until he thought he had learned as much as he could with just his eyes. Such imperfect scientific instrument Evolution had given the human race. It reminded him a little of when he had examined Vasilisa's arm. Ileana's gift seemed to work on the molecular scale though. Perhaps even submolecular...he couldn't be sure without a proper analysis. This could prove to be one of the most difficult problems he had ever solved. Any notes this surrogate mother might've made would also be worth getting his hands on. If she was a noteworthy scientist it shouldn't be very difficult to track her down. Unlike himself, other scientist had the habit of publishing their finds in a vain attempt at attaining glory. Admiration from lesser minds wasn't something Dr. Damnation was interested in. There was no sport in that.

As Ileana spoke he mentally recorded every word, comparing them to his own theories and hypotheses. He watched as the curious metal disappeared into her skin again. It left no trace. It seemed like the most immediate problems he had foreseen were solved. Of course, they would have to be for her to be sitting across the tabel from him alive. Meta-humans usually needed a lot of luck to stay alive. Powers didn't always combine well with being alive. "Unprecedented indeed." He said, nodding. "There are comparable cases but nothing like...you."

Aleksander put his free hand over his mouth and stared thoughfully at the wall behind Ileana. He almost jumped when Decoh suddenly shouted and Aleksander released the woman's hand. "Amazing." He whispered before turning to Desmond and speaking in his normal voice. ""Would I lie to you?"

In the corner of his eyes Aleksander could see Binary's hand move a little and almost immediately something opened in the wall. Was it a command of some kind or...was she somehow able to signal the computernetwork with her brain? If she was functioning in the way he suspected she did that would be a possibility. The flame of excitement in him flared again when he considered the impliations. "Truly amazing."

[Black Friday]
His eyes rolled around in his skull, as the foreign presence in his mind dug deeper. It was like a bridge between him and her and when he looked across it, he could see her mind. It terrified him, terrified the monster that struck fear in the hearts of the powerful. His head and ears were filled with her derisive cackling.
"Would you be my cute little slave pet?" If his mind was intact, if his psyche had not splintered beneath the weight of his prison-tomb, he would have destroyed her for her impertinence. He was Black Friday, wrath and fury and violence incarnate, not some madwoman's plaything. But, the years trapped in the cold darkness had taken their toll and now this once unstoppable beast was nothing more than a neutered puppy. He whimpered, shaking the ground with the inhuman noise, and bowed to her.

Diana's hands drummed lightly upon the railing of her condominium. The past couple of days at work had been nothing short of dreary. After the excitement that was her life during the fight at the warehouse, she found herself in a fit of depression at the normal day-to-day drudgery of office life and couldn't wait to kick in another adventure in life that would remind her that she could be something more than what she was now.

So she had quit her job. An impulsive move she knew but she wanted, no needed something more out of her life at this moment. The deaths at the warehouse, her entrance as the Grey-Wraith, and the emotions felt after she had killed cosmos had really sent her mind into a new place, a different place.

And the clamor caused by the two villains at the jewelers store would give her a new chance at reaching that place.

With a smile across her lips, she grasped at the railing once last time before vaulting over, the sheer rush of falling 70 stories sending her into a sensation of grandeur before she spread her arms, letting her ability of flight take her high above the New Congress landscape.

The sense of freedom was extraordinary. She was once again adorned in her costume as her house robes had given way to the force of the free fall. She felt as a snake shedding out of old uncomfortable skin. She felt real, alive as the Grey-Wraith.

The wind cut through her hair as gentle as a masseuse's touch. The ability of flight was one of her most treasured powers as there were no limits while in the air. Nothing to hold you back...

She arrived at the jewelers a little too late. The many cameras and reporters were being held back by the line of police officers that were barricading the store while a chorus of "Look it's the Grey-Wraith" and "Grey-Wraith! over here!" filled her ears. When she stepped into the store she immediately recognized Baptist as he helped the officers carry the two villains that had attempted to rob the place to their squad cars. However there was another there who wasn't recognizable. He had inquired who the Baptist was, which caused Diane to form a shadow glove on her right hand, and emit a hostile aura of light in her other hand. She stood firm where she was, speaking coldly.

"Yes that is the Baptist, and I consider him a good friend of mine. So if you've come expecting trouble, the numbers are against you pal!"

The Baptist had just watched as the policemen had cuffed and collared the two villains when he felt a blur of air rush by his face. Immediately upon seeing the new masked man get in front of him he had pointed a finger at the ground, slowly letting water form in pools in the Jewelery store. He grunted to himself as he had immediately took in the stranger's uncanny speed as well as his inquiry as to who he was immediately after. The steam that ejected itself from underneath the stranger's mask as he spoke only helped to add to the mystery that surrounded him.

However before the Baptist even had a chance to speak the woman, Grey-Wraith appeared into the store, obviously wanting to watch his back as they had served as comrades in the fight at the warehouse a couple of weeks back. At the sound of her challenge to the stranger he simply held out a hand, not wanting to create another conflict that could endanger the surrounding civilians outside.

Weird for Baptist, as he's never one to turn down the opportunity to fight.

"I am Baptist, what is it that you're looking for" he spoke to the man as the puddle of water around his feet grew larger. "I am not sure if your challenge is necessary either Grey-Wraith" he spoke in a friendly voice, common for those who have shared a common cause. "This man seemingly appeared out of thin air, I've a feeling if he wanted to start trouble it would have already happened. Let's see what he has to say."

Even though the Baptist kept a conscious, trained eye upon the stranger he couldn't help but also noticed the encroaching numbers of news cameras and journalists as the officers tried their best to hold them back. Whatever this man wanted he had better get it out fast. It would seem that time was running out before they were bomb rushed.

[Statick]
He simply stood there as the superhero turned around, waiting for him to make his judgements, waiting for him to answer. He was always waiting for a world that would never catch up. Before the water-powered hero could respond to his question, another voice, behind Statick, answered instead.
"Yes that is the Baptist, and I consider him a good friend of mine. So if you've come expecting trouble, the numbers are against you pal!" A woman, with white hair and glowing eyes stood before him, her fists charged with some sort of energy.
SSSS "Heh. Cute." Statick muttered in his chilling, distorted voice. He turned back to The Baptist, now his identity had been confirmed. SSSS "Like buses, never one around when you need them and then two show up at once." He was smiling beneath his mask.
Without turning to face her, he called over his shoulder to the woman. SSSS "Don't worry, sweetheart. I'm not here to hurt you. I need help. Got something that I need the guy in star-spangled spandex to look at. So, either of you know where Caucus is?"

After meeting with the Doctor that Friday, the week drug on for Vasilisa, as she sort of faded back into the world. She kept little contact with the outside, but wouldn't pass up a chance to see any of the heroes. However, she did it from afar, in his 'disguse'. She wanted to keep in touch with them. But on normal terms. She didn't fancy herself a hero. Nor did she want to be one.... She in particular kept an eye out for the Alex, but just as soon as the doctor had appeared, he had vanished. Vasilisa would've called him, or even tried to track him using the local law enforcment's lines. But she knew that it was absolutely futile. He knew a way out of everything, it so seemed.

She would finally give up, even searching for him on the confines of the net. Or she might even call up some favors she had back with the Russian Spetsnaz.... She was seemingly drawn to his...wit, and she wouldn't call it charm exactly, but he was quite the character. She wanted to get to know him better, as odd enough as that sounded to her. But she would make sure to keep an eye out for the Good Doctor.

Desmond heard Alex and Ileana saying something to him but he was too wrapped up in his food... He should cook more often. He shifted to the side and just as he did so he was hit in the head by... the wall? "Ow..." The hero looked over to where he got hit and there stood his get out of jail free card. "Finally," he breathed with a sigh of relief.

Desmond took the phone from out of the compartment and examined it, turning the phone around and screwing his face into all types of weird contortions. It was very shiny.. and sleek.. and buttonless.. with no "flip" feature.... He sighed disappointedly and shot his sister a quick "damn.." look. He knew Ileana was making sure her younger brother wouldn't screw up this time. She knew he was not a fan of technology and now he actually had to take care of it or the house would be his enemy. He had better learn how to use that phone quickly... And find some sort of impenetrable case for it. Damn...

The hero stopped dwelling on the negative, though. At least he could leave the house again, he hadn't been out to his favorite place in awhile. Things were looking up... Now to go find the instruction manual to the phone.. after dinner was over, he didn't want to be rude. He placed the phone back in the compartment and resumed eating. Looking towards the doctor, "So Ileana's weird, huh?" He laughed, "with the metal skin and whatnot? Probably why she likes it so cold.."

"Yes, that explains everything." Dr. Damnation said with a slight smile before putting the last piece of the steak in his mean. He savored every chew before swallowing it. "And I'm sure we could all be considered odd in our own way. We are only meta-human after all."

Aleksander glanced in Desmond's direction, briefly considering leaving all the Science talk out of the converstion for his sake. Then he reminded himself that 'Science waits for nobody' and forgot about the ridiculous notion.

"I must ask, Ileana, what are your experiences with Synthetic Intelligence?" He asked innocently. "I have a couple of autonomous mechanical drones worked out but I haven't had the time to code something which will utilize their functions efficiently. I've coded some AI's back in the day but those allow a lot of shortcuts which aren't possible with SI's and their applications were a lot more specific. I could send you some rough blueprints of the design but I'm afraid I can't let the exact specifications leave my laboratory. You'll have to read them there if you're interested. I'd hate to see them fall in the wrong hands."

"Now that I think about it though, giving the bad guys some more precise and subtle weaponry might prevent a lot of collatoral damage." The Doctor thought out loud. "Maybe I should consider it after all."

"I'm joking." He eventually admitted.

Ileana barely resisted the urge to stick her tongue out at her brother. "I happen to like it cold because I am a human and as a human, I enjoy claiming my evolutionary right to such advancements as air conditioning," she told him loftily. "So shove it, swiss cheese."

Ileana considered Alex's question carefully, taking a sip of her water while she thought. "SI..." she murmured, "There's some tricky shit. I have a good few AI programs myself running on my network that monitor the firewalls, organize searches, you know, stuff like that. I've made my own attempts at it, the closest I got was this mutating program, it mimicked evolution well, but in the end, I wasn't able to coax it into self-awareness. I've been playing around with the idea of a series of these AIs and having each transfer the information to the other, you know, to mimic teaching. It's all theoretical though..."

She took a moment to consider his offer. If his blueprints took him any closer than hers did, the oppurtunity was almost painful to pass up. Plus, she had a feeling that Dr. Damnation had any number of fascinating blueprints in his lab. Ileana had always had to be careful around other scientists in order to protect her identity. The chance to allow her mind free reign, and possibly to be matched was enticing. And if he tried anything funny, he still have no clue how fast she could be. She could probably punch him in the nose before he could say "Science made me do it".

"I'm sure we can work something out," she said aloud, grinning.

"I'm sure we will." The Doctor said, nodding thoughtfully. "Science always finds a way...or at least scientists usually do."

"My own research was much more focused on creating an...instant intelligence." He said, recalling all the relevant research files. "It always seemed to me that this simulated evolution would take too long, if it was going to give results at all. But...maybe...if we take a sort of...base model which we force through the process until we have something we can work with...yes that might be something."

"Of course," Aleksander made a motion as if to say 'c'est la vie'. ", getting the exact definition of 'self-aware' and 'conscious' down is already tricky in and of itself. Two geniuses like us might be able to come to a reasonable conclusion though. If that doesn't work we could just try winging it until we have something that resembles what we wanted to see. It's not very scientific but it works...sometimes." He smiled at the irony of his own words. It would be foolish to deny his own shortcomings though. Besides, if they sometimes gave results could they really be considered shortcomings? It was open for discussion, for as far as he was concerned.

"By the way," He said as if he was quoting the expression. ", I don't have to explain to you that there's no such thing as 'evolutionary right', right?"

[Statick]
As the heroes stood eyeing him up, assessing his motives, he sighed internally. If it weren't for the fact it would cause him agonising torment, he would've rubbed his eyes in frustration.
SSSS "Look," he said, "I gotta talk to the big man, or someone else who can rally the superpowered troops. Something big is coming and we're all going to need to be prepared when it arrives." He looked at the Baptist and then over his shoulder at Grey-Wraith. They were being deliberately obtuse, it seemed. He sighed again and launched himself through the air of New Congress' streets. These two couldn't help. He would have to find someone who could.

Re: Rise of Champions: The ParadigmIX

I just submitted a character.

Re: [OOC] Rise of Champions: The ParadigmIX

I'm still here...just not here. No wait....

Yeah, I'm still here.

Re: [OOC] Rise of Champions: The ParadigmIX

I'm still here and definitely interested XD

Re: [OOC] Rise of Champions: The ParadigmIX

Dude, yes. I obviously wasn't able to fall back on my proposition, so this is the next best thing. Guys? You still out there?

Re: [OOC] Rise of Champions: The ParadigmIX

i don't know if anybody is still checking this RP, but I've got an idea as a kind of interim storyline if anyone is still bothered?

Re: [OOC] Rise of Champions: The ParadigmIX

Oy, mates, sorry I just disappeared like that. Real life came up and my grandma got sick. Since I'm the only one without a "ultimate career plan" (A.K.A. a finished college degree) in my family, I was the one tagged to go help her out. However, out here in the woods there is only one viable option for non-dial-up internet, but its cost is way outside my budget. So my internet times now are rather un-frequent, as I have to go to a run-down Whataburger in town to have internet access... which is rather unreliable itself. I'd like to stay a part of this roleplay, but chances are I won't have enough time. Sorry if this inconveniences any of you, but for the moment I'm going to have to back down.

Rest assured, the moment my grandma gets better OR a better internet option becomes available to me, I'll be back in a flash. But for now, ciao.

Re: [OOC] Rise of Champions: The ParadigmIX

A mad Russian inspired by Screaming Mantis, no less. METAL GEEEAR.

Okay, kiddos, there's a three-day weekend a-comin', which may or may not give me time to launch a thread for Episode 2. Someone else with ideas is more than welcome to do so, although I have the urge to make it needlessly pretty. Herp. Glad to see you all still around. :D

Re: [OOC] Rise of Champions: The ParadigmIX

Vio-Lance wrote:And there shall always be a russian!

There was already a Russian :P A mad Russian, but a Russian nonetheless.

Re: [OOC] Rise of Champions: The ParadigmIX

And there shall always be a russian!

Re: [OOC] Rise of Champions: The ParadigmIX

^Yep, that's about the lot of us.

I've been mulling this in my head, and although plot scenarios aren't quite gelling yet, here's my proposal: How about creating Episode 2 as a separate roleplay? Call this segment complete and make a new thread, new tab, revamped schtick. This way, we could eliminate the baggage of inactive players and scoop up a few who might show interest. We could work together on the formatting and such, make it all fabulous with super glitter and super colors. <*0*>

Well, maybe not the latter, but that's the gist it of it. Igen? Nem? Place your betsies.

Re: [OOC] Rise of Champions: The ParadigmIX

So that's Dr. Damnation, Statick and Chester vs Yossarian, Macska, Psychosis and Black Friday?

Re: [OOC] Rise of Champions: The ParadigmIX

I'm still here and eager to continue this RP.

Re: [OOC] Rise of Champions: The ParadigmIX

i'll be on board with whatever anybody comes up with.

Re: [OOC] Rise of Champions: The ParadigmIX

Hmm, not specifically, but I could surely drum something up. The only issue I see here lies in who still remains--active players, that is. Klik abandoned Binary, and she was essential to the development at hand; some of our heroes, such as The Baptist and Grey-Wraith, haven't logged on in a while. We could collaborate and form a new scenario with whomever is still on board--it's just a matter of who.

Re: [OOC] Rise of Champions: The ParadigmIX

Tæfarós, did you have any evil schemes planned for your guys? Maybe we could fight/help them as long a ParadigmIX isn't around to give us something else to do. They seem capable enough to act as the main villains and Caucas is out of the picture anyway.

Re: [OOC] Rise of Champions: The ParadigmIX

yo yo yo guys, i'm gonna be disappearing until monday now cause my girlfriend's come to stay :D i'll see you soon, hopefully during the pandemonium of episode 2 :D
peace

Re: [OOC] Rise of Champions: The ParadigmIX

He doesn't seem like he would, no. D: We can only hope that life drummed up some obstacles and that he'll return soon.

Re: [OOC] Rise of Champions: The ParadigmIX

I dunno, he hasn't been online for a couple of weeks now. I don't imagine he would leave somewhere without saying something, would he?
