Which modern art movement are you?

I got Abstract Expressionism.

Image
Abstract expressionism is a post World War II art movement in American painting, developed in New York in the 40's. It was the first American movement that achieved international influence.
In this form of art, the artist expresses himself only through color and uses no objects to convey his message. Which can sometimes be misread and wrongly perceived as messy and random.

Just like that, You're often misunderstood. You seem wild and outgoing to acquaintances, but you're actually thoughtful, and much deeper than others think you are. You only open up to people you trust, who are few.

I got the same result. Personally I can't stand Abstract Expressionism (I have a minor in Art History). The only artist that I loved during this time period was Jackson Pollock because it at least looks like he put effort into his work. Don't get me started Rothko though. From the Post WWII era, the only modern art movement I liked was Op Art which deals with Optical Illusion.

I got impressionism, which is one of my favorites. The explanation as for why I should relate to this is lackluster, but I do feel this hits the nail on the head!

Impressionism
Impressionism is a 19th century art movement that originated with a group of Paris-based artists. Impressionist art is small, thin, yet visible and accurate, with emphasis on human perception and experience, and unusual visual angles. Some people may see you as ordinary, but there's more to you than meets the eye. Your friends know that you're honest, kind and sincere. You're a good listener, and you love being outdoors, basking in nature!

I ended up with Fauvism.

Fauvism is the style of a French group called "the wild beasts" from the early 20th. Their works emphasized painterly qualities and strong colors. Just like them, you're a bold, bright, outgoing person, and a social butterfly. You have a generally positive outlook on things and meet each new day with excitement and passion!

Despite all the art books I've read and classes I've taken, I had no idea what that was so I had to google it. I wouldn't say that's me, although I like the bright, bold colors. My personal preferences lean more towards Modernist and Impressionistic type pieces.

Also I find it utterly ridiculous how it assumes anyone associated with that is this positive outgoing social butterfly golden retriever of a person. I'm introverted, pessimistic, and cynical, just ask people. lol

"Surrealism

Surrealism is a movement that began in the early 20's. In Surrealism, the artists creates weird and illogical scenes with photographic precision, which results in strange but breathtaking creations.

You're a wild card. No one really knows what to expect from you, and you love to keep them guessing. Step outside of your comfort zone? Please, you barely even had one to begin with."

Can't even argue, I've always enjoyed Salvador Dali.
