ABOARD THE KESVHAR II, A SUPPLY SHIP ON ITS WAY TO JHANHEKHAR:
Captain Chevlhen saw the one who called himself Colonel Fisk and relaized, that, other than the sclera of the eyes, which were blue in Alharhanians, there was really not much difference between the two species. Maybe something unseen, maybe internally, Chevlhen thought, but that was unimportant right now.
âWelcome to the Orovhian System, Colonel Fisk,â he said. âIf you wish to visit Alharhan, it is the third planet orbiting Orovha. Iâm afraid I cannot give you any co-ordinates because our ship has been programmed to make its regular run between Alharhan and Jhanhekhar, Jhanhekhar and TereskĂ dhar, and TereskĂ dhar and back to Alharhan. Iâve been captain of this ship for two years, and all I can say is that the computer has each destination in its data base and frankly, we trust the on board systems to take us to each destination without incident.â He laughed lightly. âLetâs just say without much incident.â
âCaptain,â Sherhol Metrhanech said, âmay I speak to you privately for a moment?â
âExcuse us a moment,â Chevlhen said. âScreen off.â
When the screen had gone dark, Metrhanech said, âPermission to speak freely, sir.â
âWhat is it?â
âWe don't know anything about them,â he said. âWe donât know where they came from, and what they want. Sure, they say they want to make contact with our government, but we donât know what their real motives are. I suggest we tread lightly.â
âSuggested noted,â Chevlhen said. âScreen on.â When Colonel Fisk came into view again, Chevlhen said, âIâd like to inquire if there is any animosity between your ship and the other...â Suddenly, he broke off. âExcuse me a moment, Colonel Fisk, we seem to have a... situation on board. Weâll keep this channel open. âScreen off.â He looked at the two guards, each carrying long range laser rifles. âLieutenant Metrhanech, you have the bridge.â He followed the two guards into the elevator. âThis had better not delay us,â he muttered as the doors slid closed.
TRESKEBHAR, TEâHÄNYS, ALHARHAN
Because ot the distance between planets, replies took quite a bit of time to go back and forth. The last message Resold Dinmhar received and reported to President Tryslen was that the supply ship was having no problems, and was on its way to Jhanhekhar, and should arrive there in three days.
Now, however, there was a new problem. Somewhere, in the DĂ vhan-Dhomhan Desert, in the center of the country of TeâhÄnys, an alien craft had landed. Intelligence and security personnel had already been sent out there to investigate. President Tryslen wondered if this had anything to do with the ships that were in orbit around TereskĂ dhar. He knew he had to tread carefully; aliens in this area of the galaxy were not uncommon. After all, Space Station Orion was not too far from here, and all manners of beings had come there.
Special Investigator KheâÄr Dhoren of the Department of Immigration had been placed in charge of the investigation, although Tryslen could not see what interest the DOI would have. He had this feeling that the beings aboard that craft were not thinking of immigrating to this country.
He wondered just how many starfighters the fifty-five countries on Alharhan had, and if they would be ready just in case--
MONARAN, MHAÄÄREN, TERESKĂDHAR
The auction interested me in a morbid sort of way. It was hard to believe that not too long ago, Kykherenha and I stood on that platform, while Alharhanians gawked at us, examined us, bid on us. Now I was watching this strange being who was furred like me, with a tail, but who was clothed while I stood there showing off my auburn fur, and my long bushy tail, in all its glory.
"Thek--", he called out, but a guard hit him on the head and told him to shutup. When the bids began I realized that the first one was five hundred LâhĆr, ,which was almost almost four times as much as what Senha RhuiĆŸel had finally paid for me. Apparently those bidding thought him rather valuable. I looked up at him, and felt contempt, and I didnât know why. Was it because of his appearance, his attitude, his look of power and strength?
Weâre not supposed to be here, Kykherhenha sent.
I know, I sent back. Give me a moment. The moment turned into minutes because I was curious who wanted to bid on this alien.
