Follow your dreams in an advanced Pokémon RP. Create your own destiny in the Faria region. (NO LONGER ACCEPTING UNLESS YOU'VE ALREADY CLAIMED A SPOT)

Introduction

There comes a time in nearly every young person's life that he or she decides to embark on a journey with Pokémon. It's a life-changing experience - a brand new adventure full of joy, sorrow, struggles, and friendship. Every day children leave their homes, eyes gazing into the sky, the dream of one day reaching the stars reflecting within them.

They soon find, however, that the world they've imagined, shining and full of Pokémon and fun, glows with a darker aura. The path they'd mapped out in their heads for years twisted with detours. The people they met were not T.V. characters, and some of them had the worst of intentions. They grow. They learn the world is a complicated place, only made all the more confusing by Pokémon. They learn to navigate the labyrinthine corridors of the most sinister human mind and heart. They learn of hatred, of jealousy, of evil.

But don't be discouraged. For every pain and trial endured, an equally powerful experience of joy, happiness, and love is found. They learn trust, the value of teamwork, friendship, and what it means to be a good man or woman.

It is time for you to embark on that journey. It will not be an easy one by any means, but you've spent a few extra years preparing; you could consider yourself "ahead of the game". Just last week you attended your final lesson at your city's local Pokémon Academy. It has prepared you and taught you all the technicalities of the Pokémon: battling, training, contests, moves, typing, status, items, and the like. All students were given their own Pokédex to use as part of the class, which was available for purchase for a discounted price at the end of the program. As a typical graduation present, your parent(s) or guardian(s) have both paid for your Pokédex and gotten you your very first Pokémon. But the rest… well the rest is up to you.

About this RP:

NOTE: This is an RP for serious writers who will stay active, write well, and don't need to be babied or cajoled into writing or behaving properly. It also requires a good understanding of Pokémon.

As explained above, you are a Pokémon trainer about to enter the world of Pokémon with your very first partner! But really, the rest is up to you! This RP is very open ended in regards to what you will do as a Pokémon trainer. Will you brave the Pokémon Gyms? Will you master the Contests? Or perhaps you will find yourself in pursuit of the cryptic "Team Fate". Or maybe your destiny is a more sinister one… This world is full of mystery, wonder, treasure, and excitement; take advantage!

Gameplay will consist of you moving through the "Faria" region, an area that is home to nearly every Pokémon known to man, starting in Adinitium City. There is an underlying plot beside the one you will create for yourself which will intersect with yours at times, but I will not force you along it. You will move from town to town and city to city, collecting Pokémon, meeting people, and advancing in your quest at your own rate (though that is no excuse for inactivity!). The characters you meet and the story will change based on your actions, how you treat NPCs, who you help and who you don't, etc. You may choose to go alone, or you may opt to travel with other players in the RP.

I will be playing a huge cast of NPCs, including wild Pokémon. I will not have a specific character of my own in this RP, though there will be some recurring NPCs. My role is more the role of a judge and a guide. Your actions will have consequences determined by me. You'll have to trust me to be fair, as I will not get into arguments with you. I am the one who determines if you caught a wild Pokémon, beat a Gym leader, etc. based on how well you write and battle. In player vs. player battles, the parties involved will decide for themselves, and if an agreement cannot be reached, the battle will be brought to me, and I will decide who I think deserved to win. I will try to stay out of your way as much as possible, but when I intervene I am the final say.

You will have to earn money to buy things such as Pokéballs. Your Pokémon will have to level up and learn the moves they would actually learn by leveling up. You will have to battle and make choices that make sense with your Pokémon. Your Pokémon will not automatically be healed after each battle, and you will have to stop at Pokémon Centers or use healing items. Check out my interest check thread here to get a better understanding of how this RP will work.

Battles will be done through Private Messaging or some other form of communication, then posted in ONE POST in the IC. This is to prevent flooding of the RP with many very short posts.

Contest will be done in a similar manner, but they will be explained in further detail when the first one occurs. Pokémon will gain experience points from contests as they would in battle, so if you would like to be exclusively a coordinator, that will be possible.

Your Starter and Wild Pokémon:

First: ONLY ONE OF EACH SPECIES OF POKÉMON. If someone picked the one you wanted, you'll have to choose a different one. Maybe you'll catch it later. This is to prevent everyone from choosing Eevee, Dratini, and Ralts like they normally do.

I am not going to limit you to actual starter Pokémon, and you will have the opportunity to catch Pokémon like Torchic and Mudkip out in the wild. However...

The rarity of your starter will be inversely proportional to the rarity of some of the first Pokémon you meet. What that means is, if you pick Dratini as your first Pokémon, don't expect to meet another rare Pokémon for a long, long time. So, Mr. "Oh, I'll start with Dratini, then catch Bagon, and maybe a few Eevees while I'm at it.", it'll be more like, "Oh, I'll start with Dratini, and… Hi Rattata." I consider a Pokémon that has been a starter Pokémon in one of the games to be a modest choice.

Pick a reasonable starter Pokémon. No legendary starters, not even Phione. No Scyhter or other Pokémon that would be too powerful to consider fighting with Pokémon like Mudkip, okay?

Wild Pokémon you meet will be determined by me. If you wish to find wild Pokémon, you should post that you are looking. Based on the environment, I will determine your wild Pokémon via my secret method. I will not reveal to you how they are chosen; all you need know is that it is a random as possible while still keeping limits on the Pokémon you can catch. I am keeping it secret so that you cannot find loopholes or ways to cheat my system to get Pokémon that it wouldn't make sense for you to have and so that everyone can't just get whatever Pokémon he or she wants. Do not pester me to meet a certain Pokémon, or the next Pokémon you meet will be Bidoof as punishment. I mean it. It is random, so I have limited control over the Pokémon you can meet, and I will not ignore my system so that you can get all your favorite Pokémon. You can tell me a Pokémon that you are interested in as long as you don't go overboard, and, while I can't promise you will get it, you will be more likely to. For the most part you will simply have to look carefully and hope for the best.

If you have any questions about gameplay, as this is a very complicated RP, and I know I must have forgotten to mention something, please feel free to ask me. I will explain as best as I can.

2) The obvious don't break RPG rules rule.
3) Be active or get removed. Notify me of extended absences.
4) Do not start arguments with me. I'm alright with you questioning my decision every once in awhile, but don't be obnoxious about it. My decision is usually final.
5) There is no waiting for other to post or posting order. You advance at your own pace; the more time you put into it the farther ahead you can get. Unless of course it gets to a ridiculous point.
6) A sample of a Pokémon battle must be sent to me via Private Message. It must showcase your ability as a writer AND as a knowledgeable Pokémon trainer. This RP takes base stats into account. Follow the link to the initial interest check above to learn what I mean and to get a good sample post of what I'm expecting.
7) Have fun, and make this RP your own. :)

As the daylight began to fade, the more nocturnal Pokémon began to awaken around Raine and her little party. As they meandered their way down Route 4, a tiny scuttling could be heard behind them. When she turned around to find the source, she found herself looking down at Spinarak gearing up for String Shot! She had unknowingly stepped through its web, the gooey threads still stuck on her shoes.

A level 5 Spinarak appeared!

Raine, startled, moved quickly in attempt to evade the string shot. “Luce, incoming!” she shouted, alerting the unwitting mareep of the sticky threads of silk heading his way. With a surprised bleat, Luce managed to scamper away from the attack just in time before looking bewildered, darting his gaze from Raine to the spinarak.

“Calm down, Luce, we can handle this!” Raine said. “Try to tackle it from the side – don’t get hit by its string shots!”

Spinarak redirected its attention to the oncoming Mareep, giving it a Scary Face to slow it down. Slowed down and scared significantly, the Mareep managed little damage with its Tackle, and began to move much more cautiously around the spider. The spinarak's little horn glowed as it darted forward with a Poison Sting aimed at the frightened sheep.

Raine ran forward, but it was clear she wouldn’t reach Luce in time. “Snap out of it and get out of the way, Luce!” she shouted, still trying to get him out of range. As the sunlight dimmed further, she noticed the bright glow from the bulb of the mareep’s tail – static was building up in his wool. If he could only land a tackle...

“Luce, dodge it and try to tackle it again!”

Luce hit the Spinarak with a full on Tackle. It cried out as it thunked against the tree, now stunned from both paralysis and the beating it had just taken. It laid miserably on the ground, unable to attack or guard itself.

Suddenly, Raine felt just a little sorry for the spinarak. It looked so miserable, just waiting for Luce to finish it off - although she thought she saw a slight satisfaction that it managed to poison him before it blacked out. She had always thought spinarak were just a little cute... but she only had one pokéball left...

Some quick decision making was in order, and Raine sighed, "Sorry Luce, but can you stand back for a moment?"

Immediately understanding, and not at all bothered, the mareep stumbled back - wincing slightly at the pain. Making it quick, Raine quickly detached a pokéball from her belt, casting it at the nearly fainted spinarak. "I'm sorry to you, too!" she called just before the pokéball hit.

The Pokéball wiggled once... twice... three times! The wild Spinarak was caught!

Raine caught the wild Spinarak!

Luce gained EXP!

Luce grew to level 6!

Quickly snatching up the pokéball, she hurried over to Luce instead. Stuffing a half-crushed pecha berry into his mouth, she ordered, “Eat. It’ll neutralize the effects of the poison.” She watched as the mareep eagerly devoured the fruit, apparently liking it for its taste more than its effects. Raine tried a drop of juice on her own hand. So Luce liked sweet things. That would be nice to know.

“You’ll want your energy back, so eat that oran berry I gave you earlier too,” she said. Luce gave her a mournful look and she gave in. “I’ll give you another one, so eat it without hesitation.”

Just as Luce happily finished up the oran berry, her own stomach gave a growl. Luce stared at her, and Raine found herself embarrassed. “Just because you got to eat like a munchlax today, doesn’t mean I did,” she grumbled, scooping the mareep up in her arms. She knew she was safe from the static from the dull glow of his tail.

“I think I see the ferry over there. Let’s get off this island so that I can grab a bite to eat!” she said, dashing off towards the ferry dock.

"Hm? Who told you that?" Nurse Joy asked Bianca. "I haven't heard much of anything from anyone in awhile... it's getting late so not many more people have been trying to get to the ferry I imagine. There was a boy though who said he was going down there... so perhaps they're gone? I'm not sure... but good luck out there, and be careful!"

Mike took the poke ball from Nurse Joy. "Thank you." He said as politely as he could, then, by force of habit, he flipped his wrist, sending out the ball, it hitting the ground, releasing Doug, and coming straight back to his hand. The Aron seemed a bit mad for unjustly being forced into his poke ball. Mike sighed and stood up. "I'm sorry, ok? I just figured it would be better if you went in there instead of forcing you to walk..." The pokemon roll his eyes, accepting the apology and his trainer smiled.

Mike then looked at Sean, who was looking away and he felt a little sad because of it. Maybe he said something wrong. It probably was him reintroducing himself, making his new friend feel like an idiot. Mike sighed and headed out the door, towards the poke mart, not knowing what to say. Doug, loyaly, trotting behind him.

As Mike entered the mart, he noticed the manager from before, who was already getting angry, seeing another "hoodlum" in his store. "Get out." he calmly said as he turned around, "We're closed." The trainer seemed a bit confused. "Aren't poke marts open 24/7?" The manager sighed. "Smart-ass. Just get what you need and get out." Mike sighed and quickly grabbed a poke ball, a potion, and two oran berrys, completely draining his funds. He then purchased his items and left, hoping not to anger the short man anymore.

When they left, Doug noticed a supicious looking trainer, looking around and then running out of town. The Aron soon gave chase, wondering what this man could be up to. Mike noticed his pokemon running around the time it exited Adinitium City and he couldn't just let his Aron wander off. So, he chased after Doug, hoping there was a good reason that it was running.

By the time Mike had actually caught up to Doug, the trainer from before let out his Houndour. "There you are you little..." His pokemon cut him off with a grunted a poked at the strange man. Mike crouched down, now watching the trainer. It didn't exactly feel right but, something about this person was, off.

Soon the man, sent a blue light from the poke ball, at first connecting it to the Houndour but, then the connection snapped and the trainer tried to walk away. His pokemon chased after him, whimpering a bit. The man then gave an evil look to the pup shouting, "Your useless and I don't want you anymore!" And then he continued walking but, the Houndour didn't want him to leave, biting at his pants, trying to keep it from walking. The trainer, now furious, kicked the pokemon, sending it flying back a few feet, hitting its head as it landed. "Stupid dog..."

Mike, who watched the whole thing, charged in, punching the bastard in his face knocking him over. While Doug ran and stood in between the wounded pokemon and its horrible trainer. "What the hell!? Why did you do that?" Mike, gritted his teeth and clenches his fists. "Because you harmed that innocient pokemon!" The man, rubbed his cheek and laughed. "That bitch (female dog) isn't innocient. She sucks and I released her but she wouldn't leave me alone!" Doug and his trainer both glared at this pitful excuse for a human being. "That doesn't give you the right to harm her! Now get out of here, you make me sick." The man stood and angerly stared at Mike. "Don't you dare..." The young trainer put up his hand, silencing him. "I don't want to hear threats from someone who's so weak that they have to hrut pokemon to make themselves feel better." And with that, the older trainer ran off, yelling something about revenge but, Mike didn't care to listen.

The Houndour's painful whimper, brought Mike back to what was important here. And he ran over and joined Doug, who was staring at the pup, wondering if it was going to be ok. The trainer tried to touch the pokemon, but she barely was able to crawl back and howled out in pain. He pulled his hand back and reached into his bag, pulling out one of his newly purchased, oran berries, carefully rolling it to the Houndour. "Here. This will make you feel better." The pokemon looked at the berry, then at Mike, and back at the berry before eating it. Its healing proteries quickly worked as the pup started feeling better, but couldn't get up. And having no other choice, the trainer picked her up and ran back towards the pokemon center, Doug running along side him.

At first the Houndour struggled but soon gave up, feeling to weak. Mike was able to quickly make it to the center and shouted for Nurse Joy, who came out. "What's going..." She stopped as she saw the pokemon and ran over to the trainer. "W-what happened?" Mike, panting a bit, handing her the injured pup. "I'll tell you later but, what's important now is this pokemon!" Nurse Joy nodded as she took the Houndour and rushed off to the emergeny part of the center, with Mike and Doug following her.

Sean watched as Mike held out his hand after introducing himself. Sean, however, heard his wurmple had been fully restored and immediately got up to collect him. Sean had admittedly been a little cold to the trainer, but he didn't quite feel bad enough to want to go chasing after him after he left the center. Maybe he'd make it up to him another day... I'll do something, he inwardly promised, Just not tonight.

Sean opened the pokeball and Seanapillar emerged from the white light, looking brighter and happier than ever. Sean always preferred to have his pokemon outside of the ball while traveling. Having a close companion like this always made traveling better. For a fraction of a second, Sean's face turned solemn, And I don't want to ever have to chance of losing him... again. Sean's face screwed together for a second and shook off the memory and returned to his blissful smile.

The pair exited the center and decided to head for the forest. It was getting dark, so Sean figured that he'd be able to meet a different variety of pokemon. Everyone always says the freaks come out at night. Sean chuckled to himself and took his pokedex from his bag and put it in his front pocket for easy access. He touched the two pokeballs on his belt to double-check that they were still there and ready to go.

With a deep breath, exhaling a metaphorical ego-cloud that carried his feet eagerly toward the exit of the city and to the wilderness of Route 4.

Derek looked up at the sky, noting the darkening color. "Looks like we probably won't be able to make it to the docks today." He said aloud as he rode along side Sor, back on his skateboard now that the Pokemon were away. "And seeing as how we come to far to head back to the Center, I say we get as far as we can before nightfall, and if we don't make it, we camp out under the stars." Picking up the pace, Derek sped forward, shouting back, "Follow me, I know the way!"

When Sorence caught up, he slowed back down a tad. "You know in all those times I ran errands for my dad," He began, "I never once encountered that hive before. I wonder why?" He pondered this for a few minutes before dismissing the fact with a wave. "Anywho, what was it that your were asking about before our little 'detour' again?" He asked just as they reached a fork in the path. He pulled his board to the right instictively, his body remembering the trip well, without breaking eye contact with Sor. His face plastered with curiosity once more.

Bianca looked at the map for a few more moments before muttering a "Thanks." and walking out of the center. Bianca took out Sapphire's poke'ball and held it in her hand. "I'm going to have to go to the ferry and find it out for myself aren't I?" Bianca looked up and threw Sapphire's ball, bluntly catching it as it bounced back. "Let's go to the docks Sapphire. I need to find out something for myself." 'Let's hope I can remember those directions on the map.' Sapphire ran around the city, weaving her way between streets and hurriedly crossing streets. She passed a lot of people and bumped into a few, but she didn't care. Sapphire had a hard time keeping up with her in the massive crowd though. Bianca sighed and stopped. She knelt down and held out her hand, which eevee happily jumped on. Bianca just carried eevee in her arms for the rest of the time. 'You know, it's time's like this when I appreciate growing up in the busiest and most dangerous part of my town.' Bianca reached the docks slightly panting. "I don't see anyone. Guess coming here was a waste of ti-" Bianca heard a loud noise behind her. Bianca squinted at the ground as a few pebbles moved. "What in the world was that?"

When Raine reached the docks, she saw she wasn't the only one there. She vaguely recognized that girl who bumped into Tyler at the PokéMart – easily identified by the eevee in her arms. However, Raine never really was one for small-talk... it was awkward with people...

Instead, she surveyed her surroundings – it was clear from the looks of it that something wasn’t right. “Luce, stay close. I think something happened here,” she murmured, warily looking for a sign of danger.

Mile was pacing as he watched Nurse Joy look at the injuried Houndour he found. He was afraid that she wouldn't be able to save the pokemon. And if that happened... The trainer shook his head. He didn't want to think negatively, not now, or at least not yet. Doug, wasn't taking this much better then his trainer. The Aron watched intensely and was worried for the pup. Mostly because it reminded him of how he and Mike had met.

After a good hour, Nurse Joy came out, looking sad. Mike ran right up to her. "Is she going to be ok?" The nurse sighed and it took her a minute to respond. "I've never seen a pokemon so badly treated. She is hasn't eaten for days and has been beaten a lot more then just today." These words only made the trainer more nervous. "But, os she going to be ok?" Nurse Joy nods. "Yes she should come through." She then glared at the trainer. "But how dare you treat your pokemon so horribly? Your a uncaring monster!" Even through the words weren't true, they still strung. "Let me explain!" The nurse crossed her arms over her chest and rolls her eyes. "As if you could even come close to explaining this." Mike sighed and quickly told her how he had found and saved the Houndour.

When he had finished, Nurse Joy nodded and sighed. "Oh, well I'm sorry that I accused you of harming her. People like that just make me so mad!" Mike accepted her apology. "Its ok, I get the same way." The Nurse smiled a bit and went back to check on the Houndour. While the trainer sat down, relieved.

Adinitium Ferry Dock

Dom, Leafy, and the newly caught Ducklett made their way to the Adinitium Ferry Dock as the sun disappeared under the horizon.

"Hey, kid."

A shady looking man stepped out from the shadow of a nearby tree. "You're not plannin' on usin' that ferry are ya?" He was dressed in all black, save for a silver cursive letter "F" emblazoned on the back of his shirt. He stepped forward toward Dom tossing a Pokéball lightly in his hand. "Because," he snickered, "I think you were planning on going home, weren't you?"

"Whoa," Dom said pausing mid-stride. He didn't see the man materialize from the forest and was surprised by his sudden appearance. Nowhere near as surprised as Leafy was however, scurrying back to her trainer's legs. The Ducklett however, was a little more brave. He beat his wings at the man, causing ripples to glide along the water, "Duck!" he quacked defensively.

"Wait, what? Go home? The hell do you think you are? I've waited my life to get on this road, I'm not going to turn tail and go home just because you insinuated something," Dom said, temper rising. The nerve of that man! The way he tossed his Pokeball up and down was sign... He wasn't going to probably escape by words alone. Well... Damn. Dom would have done something likewise intimidating like juggling his Pokeballs. Too bad his pair of Pokemon was already traveling with him. There goes the element of surprise.

Leafy looked up to her trainer, proud of him and how brave he was, but scared at the same time. That man looked like trouble and they all knew it. The Ducklett however... Was ready for action.

"Hehe. Wrong answer kid. Team Fate doesn't take kindly to smart asses like you."

The man tossed his Pokéball onto the ground, and with a flash of light in the darkness, a Stunky appeared, already snarling and ready to battle.

Team Fate Grunt wants to battle!

Team Fate Grunt sent out level 10 Stunky!

"Hehe, here's your last chance to get out of here, and maybe I'll forget you were here."

Dom took a step back as the Stunky left it's ball. "Dammit..." Dom said, unsure. He hated Dark-types and the dark in general. The presence of the Stunky only made Dom realize the heavily encroaching dusk. They'd have to make it quick in order to the ferry before full darkness. However, Dom already played his cards, he wasn't going to back down now. He'd hate himself for the rest of his life, getting so close to seeing the world, only to be turned around by some goon in a pompous club. No, he'd had to stay and fight.

Leafy felt the sudden tension in her trainer, remembering his dislike of the dark. The Stunky looked rather big, but for her trainer... She'd do anything. She took a couple of brave steps away from the protection of Dom's legs and chirped an uneasy, "Chik...orita.."

Leafy never even had a chance to battle. A spout of water shot from the direction of the stream and careened toward the Stunky. The Ducklett wanted to battle instead of the Chikorita. "Leafy, Come back over here! Let our new friend handle this one," Dom said, regaining some of his senses. Leafy wouldn't do well in this battle. This one was up to the Ducklett. Good thing it decided to take the battle upon itself...

The Pokemon in question began to taunt the Stunky by wildly flapping around in the water.

"Fine then! Your little duck is done for! Stunky! Give him a taste of your Poison Gas!" The little skunk Pokémon let lose a spray of reeking fumes at Ducklett to poison it, happy to start fighting the Pokémon that was taunting it.

"Don't stop! Engulf this whole battlefield in poisonous gas!" The Stunky obeyed, continuing its spray after aiming at the Ducklett and beginning to spread the gas about. If it wasn't stopped soon, the whole area would fill with the creature's spray.

"Ducklett!" Dom yelled between wheezing coughs, The Ducklett replied with a quack as poisonous gas enveloped it. Dom pulled his jacket over his nose and mouth while at his side, Leafy began to cough as well. He held out her Pokeball, and uttered his apologies, "I'm sorry Leafy. This'll keep you out of the gas," and recalled her to her Pokeball. He felt a pang of guilt as the Pokemon entered her ball. But at least she was safe there.

The area around them became thick with a poisonous fog. Coughing Dom called to the Ducklett, "Watersport this entire area and then take to the air and Defog it!" Dom called. With a quack the Ducklett spun around in the stream and doused the imediate area and itself with a fine mist of water. Then it launched itself into the air and flapped it's wings furiously, dispelling the misty water and poisonous gas. Still coughing the Ducklett hovered above the Stunky. He had inhaled a bit of the gas, and it was tearing at his throat and lungs, yet he could still last the battle. he had to. He had to prove himself to his new trainer and Leafy.

From under his coat, Dom called out his next command, "It stinks, doesn't it? Give it a bath! Water Gun the hell out of it!" and following orders, the Ducklett did as it was asked, Water pumping from it's mouth and streaming towards the Stunky. The cool water only barely soothed it's burning throat and lungs.

Defog cleared the area of Poison Gas, and Water Sport would dilute the poison and prevent an attempt to recontaminate the field. To top it all off, Stunky didn't take the Water Gun well and Ducklett was out of range.

"Stunky! Use Screech! Bring that Ducklett down here!" Stunky let loose an ear-piercing Screech. Unable to think clearly, Ducklett was forced down from flight, clutching its head with its wings. "Now, charge in with Fury Swipes!" the defenseless Duck took two swipes before it managed to push its foul assailant away. Heavily damaged from the more powerful Pokémon, Ducklett still managed to stand, ready for its trainer's next command.

Dom held out a hand towards the Ducklett, worried about the damage the fury swipes would have caused. The Ducklett managed to push off the Stunky. Although hurt, both inside and out, the Ducklett stood defiant in the face of the Stunky. Dom felt pride well up. The Ducklett was far too rash to worry about the damage from the Fury Swipes and the Poison Gas, or worry about the strength differences between the two of them.

"Quick! Keep a steady stream of water on the Stunky. Now!" Dom called, water spewing forth from the Ducklett's bill at the stronger Pokemon. As the stream was directed to the foe, Dom gave his next set of orders, "Now back up," He said, and the Ducklett began to step backwards slowly, trying to put distance between the two. Then Dom quickly called to the Ducklett, "Now, aim downward!" He called, and the Ducklett, not knowing why, listened.

As the Ducklett looked down, the jet of water jammed into the water, sending the Pokemon upward in the air. "Duck!?" The Pokemon quacked surprised. Dom looked up at his now airborne companion, "See! I know what I'm doing!" Sometimes... They needed to finish this quickly, The fingers of Dusk were quickly snaking their way across the sky. Dom knew that Ducklett was hurt, even if the Pokemon didn't show it. They needed to hurry...

"Ducklett! Hose it down again!" Dom called from below ground, "And if it opens it mouth again, jam a stream of water down it's throat!" Dom called.

"Stunky, behind that tree!" After taking a little beating from the water above, the skunk managed to take cover behind a tree. "Now, spread some Poison Gas for cover!" The gas no longer had its poisonous effect, but the thick purple cloud covering the ground shielded the like-colored Pokémon quite well in the twilight. Unable to see its target completely, Ducklett's Water Gun failed to hit the Stunky head on for decent damage. "Now jump up there and bring it down with more Fury Swipes!"

The Stunky sprang nimbly into the air toward the duck. Ducklett only had time to redirect the Water Gun to try to slow down the incoming Pokémon as the angry little skunk brought it down with a series of Fury Swipes, landing on it hard with the finishing blow. A wet Stunky stood victorious over the brave little duck.

Dom's Ducklett fainted!

"Dammit, no! Ducklett! Gah!" Dom said, irritated and worried. His visage softened into a somber mood as he recalled the fallen Pokemon with a glare at the stranger. The dusk can go to hell for all he cared now, this man had just hurt his new friend. He had hell to pay. He held the ball close to his mouth and whispered, "You did great Duck. Rest, I'll get you to a PokeCenter soon. Just hope Leafy can finish what you started," and tucked the ball away, retrieving his other one.

Leafy popped out from the ball, looking around. Confused she first saw the Stunky... But no Ducklett. She looked back to Dom who shook his head. "It's up to you now." Leafy furrowed her brow and looked towards the enemy Stunky with a hateful glare. The normally shy Pokemon now had murder in her eyes. It didn't matter if Ducklett couldn't finish it off and it was stronger than her. The Pokemon had just hurt her friend as well, and she planned on making the Stunky pay. A feral Growl escaped the small Pokemon as she crouched low to the ground. Albeit shy, the Chikorita had a mean streak,

"Use the cloud, hit and run," Dom whispered. Leafy nodded slightly and then slipped into what was left in the poison-free purple cloud. The Stunky was out in the open, landing there when it knocked the Ducklett out of the sky. "Leafy, tackle the bastard," Dom asked cooly. There was a hesitation as Leafy darted around in the purple cloud before flying out at an downward angle, leaf first, towards the Stunky. Afterward, the Chikorita would quickly retreat into the cloud once more and continue it's hit and run tactics.

Dom knew that Posion would beat the Grass-type Leafy, at least Leafy didn't have any grass type moves to be ineffective in the battle. He also knew the Stunky was bigger than the Chikorita, so she had to use what little deception she could. Therefore, using the purple cloud against him. There was no Ducklett to defog that.

Pride in its accomplishment was short-lived as Stunky was hit hard with a Tackle from Chikorita.

"Stunky! Hit Chikorita with a Scratch, then let it defeat you," the Grunt called out. Stunky found the little green leaf sticking out of the cloud and went in for a Scratch, though the aim was a bit misjudged. Then the Pokémon looked at its trainer in confusion with sad eyes as it made no attempt to follow up its attack and literally left itself wide open for Chikorita to attack.

Leafy sustained a minor scratch across the cheek, nothing too serious, but the sudden stop in the fight confused both Trainer and Pokemon... Leafy slowly circled the Stunky, awaiting her trainer's command. Dom on the other hand, hesitated. Why... Why was this fellow just give up like that? What game was he playing at? Dom chewed his lip for a moment and threw all caution to the wind. He had to finish this fight, dark was upon them and he had to get to the ferry dock. Now.

"Leafy, finish it," he said in the same cool voice, cautious. Leafy followed the command to the letter and slammed into the Stunky. After the hit connected, Leafy quickly skipped to Dom's side. Dom, who had an eyebrow raised, watched the trainer like a hawk. He didn't like the ominous feeling creeping over him...

Stunky was defeated!

Chikorita gained EXP!

Chikorita grew to level 6!

Chikorita learned Razor Leaf!

Chikorita grew to level 7!

But suddenly Chikorita dropped to the ground in pain. "Chika!" it cried out as Stunky's ability Aftermath kicked in, dealing enough damage to nearly finish off Leafy after the fact.

"Hahaha!" the Grunt laughed. He returned the poor Stunky to its ball and shoved it back into his pocket. "Looks like I won, huh? Because I still have this!" He tossed out another Pokéball and a Zubat popped out. "Looks like you'll be handing over your money, runt. No way Chikorita can beat me now!" The Zubat bared its fangs menacingly.

Team Fate Grunt sent out a level 10 Zubat!

With Chikorita at a double type disadvantage, things looked bleak for Dom and Leafy.

"Not so fast," a woman's voice came from the forest. The figure stepped out into the open. It was none other than Jessica Roth, who Dom recognized as one of the top students at the Pokémon Academy. "Pichu, Volt Tackle," she commanded cooly and a small electric mouse flew through the air, leaving a trail of lightning in its wake that lit up the night. It was a one hit K.O. "What kind of scumbag waits around for lower leveled Pokémon anyway?" she asked as the Grunt ran off, leaving the Zubat on the ground. "Sorry for stealing your thunder... literally. But I figured you could use the help." And with that the girl began to walk away toward the dock.

Dom sprinted to his fallen Leafy, feeling foolish for falling for the trap. He slid on his knees to the Chikorita, potion already in hand. Two sprays, and the Chikorita was on it's feet, but still tired and sore. The final spray would bring it back to full health... But Dom looked over to the Zubat who's trainer had just ran off and left. Leafy and Dom exchanged glances, and with a nod from Leafy, Dom used the last spray on the fallen Zubat, feeling pity for the creature. It's scumbag of a trainer just left it there to fend of itself. With the spray, the Zubat was back upright, but still injured heavily. He patted the things head, but it ducked away from his hand. "It'll be alright, here," he said picking the Pokemon up in his hands, "Once we get across the ferry, we'll heal you up in a PokeCenter and then I'll let you free... How's that sound?" Dom asked... "Zuu..." Was his answer, the weak Pokemon in his arms unsure.

"Come on Leafy, let's get to that Dock. Hey! Jessica! Wait!" He called. As traveling with another right now would be far better than traveling alone. What Dom didn't want to mention was that he didn't want to be alone in the dark. He made for the Docks as well, Leafy at his immediate side and the Zubat in his arms.

"Well... I...um... just forget it. We shouldn't be talking about this. We should... set up camp. Yes! That's what we should do!" Sorence quickly walked over to the right of the fork as Derek rode over to it. He looked up at the crimson sky. The sun was floating down like a Jumppluf in the wind. It shimmered as it crossed over the tops of the trees. He saw dozens of wild Pokemon that ran through the brush and through the tops of the trees. He smiled as they found their homes in trees and in the leaf covered ground.

He looked over to Derek, whose face was still plastered with curiosity. He sighed and decided to be up front with him. If he was travelling with him, he might as well tell the truth. "Derek, what I was saying earlier was about nicknames and helping me come up with them. I then brushed the idea aside, because, well, I don't like having help where it isn't needed. But I would love if you helped me come up with names." Sorence said with an awkward smile. It was probably one of the oddest questions he could have asked anyone, but he wanted his two Pokemon to be more connected to him, and nicknames could help.

"Oh this looks like a good spot." Sorence said, motioning over towards a little edge in the road. It was open with short grass inside it. It was surrounded by towering trees. They had many holes scattered across their trunks, probably containing Pokemon. Sorence plopped down near one tree. He ran his hand through the grass and looked up at Derek. "What do you think of this spot? We are still a bit far from the dock and it is getting dark. I think sleep and rest would do us good seeing how we worked our Pokemon hard today."

Adinitium Ferry Dock

Raine saw clearly in the darkness, a bright streak of electricity. Was that a pokémon? What sort of move could cause that? Thundershock? Thunderbolt?

"Volt tackle," she mumbled, earning a questioning look from Luce. "Someone's having a battle over there." Curious, Raine ran towards the source of the light, with Luce in her arms. She was startled to see a few more familiar faces, though names weren't quite coming to her as easily. She noticed a strange figure run off just a ways off from her. From the light of Luce's tail, glowing brighter as his wool built up static electricity, she managed to make out a cursive F, inscribed in silver on the back of his shirt.

"Darn it, I think we missed something interesting," she muttered, before staring at the two others - they were heading off towards the docks. Although her usual manner told her to ignore them and get on the ferry, her curiosity overwhelmed her. The first figure, a girl, was too far away to reach fast enough, so she settled for the one with the chikorita. Him, she actually remembered the name of from a class together - Dominic... or something along those lines.

"Hey!" she called, setting down Luce and running up to him. She noticed the worn and weary expression of the chikorita by his side, and the zubat cradled in his arms - from its condition, apparently the recipient of the volt tackle. "Hey, wait," she said, grabbing his arm to get his attention. "What happened here?" It didn't seem like an ordinary battle, and something about that insignia on the runaway's back interested her. Raine wanted to know.

Luce tottered up beside her, his tail now brightly illuminating his immediate surroundings. That brisk run had built up as much static in his wool as he could carry - Raine noted that she'd have to avoid touching him for a while...

Route 4

Derek smiled as Sor tried to dismiss the subject, only to give in to his inquiring gaze. Never fails He commented to himself as he answered him. "I'd be glad to. We're friends, so I'll be happy to help." He pulled to a stop when Sor called out to him. Putting a hand to his chin, he inspected it for awhile, before nodding his in approval. "Okay then! Tonight, we sleep here." Kicking his board up into his hand, he tossed it and his bag near a tree to the left. "Do me a favor, can you unroll my sleeping-bag while I go find some firewood." He asked as he walked into the forest nearby.

After minutes of scavaging, Derek had managed a good supply of stick and twigs. "This should be enough." He said to himself. "But, I'll see if there are anymore around just in case." And after scanning the nearby area, he noticed a fallen branch in the grass. "Ahha!" He noted as he made his way over to it. When he reached it he bent down and made to pick it up. But just as he was about to touch it, a Spinarak climbed out from under it and stood atop the wood, starring directly at Derek. The following cold sweat was almost instantous as his arachnophobia kicked in. Slowly standing up, he began to back away from the eight-legged Pokemon until his back hit a tree. Not soon afterwards a rustling sound could be heard coming from above. A sound that made the hair on the back of his neck stand up straight. With an almost silent 'Plop', two more Spinarak fell from the treetops and onto the horrified trainer below. One landed on his shoulder, the other, directly on his head of all things. Within seconds, any form of control he had left was lost. "GYAAAAAAHHH!!!!" He yelled as he started running as fast as he could, throwing the spiders off, though he didn't know that.

A few seconds later, Derek crashed out of the woods. And I mean literary crashed, as he tripped on an upturned root, all the firewood he'd collected fly and spread across the campsite. Without wasting a millisecond, he began squirming and rolling around screaming at the top of his lungs "GETEMOFFGETEMOFFGETEMOFF!" As soon as he was sure there where no more Spinaraks on him, not that there was, he curled himself into a ball and trembled the night away, any words of concern from Sorence unheard. After the tremors had passed and the fear had faded completely from his eyes, he began to regather the branches again. "S-s-sorry you had to see me like that," He started, "There's only one thing in the world I'm scared off, and that's spiders." Once he had all the wood, he organized them into a neat pile in a hole he dug with his hands. "I don't mean to be a bother, but could you let Blitz out and ask him if he'd be so kind as to light the fire?" In his haste to change the subject, he had absentmindedly used the nickname he was thinking about for the Magby.

Daphne Hawthorne
Mortlocke Training Gym

Image
Leaving the Pokemon Center, Daph wasted little time in pointing her feet back towards the training gym and walking back at a decent clip. Once inside, she found the next trainer in line and challenged him, wondering what new twist this one would bring to the field.

Her first thought upon seeing the whismur was one of burgeoning dread. Unless she was mistaken, that pokemon knew Uproar, which did sustained damage and wouldn't be affected much if at all by Smokescreen. Well, at least it's defenses were weak- they'd have to hit fast and hit hard. Tiberius was the one with the speed advantage here, so she used it. "Tiberius, hit it with Bubble, quickly." The horsea darted forwards, spraying a stream of concussive bubbles right at the whismur.

"Uproar!" Jonothan called out. His whismur was hit with bubbles before it could begin, but got up crying. Jonothan and the judge both had on very large and thick earmuffs. They knew exactly what the little whismur was capable of.

The small pokemon opened its mouth wide and let out a horrid screech, crying and screaming in its rampage.

Daphne flinched, resisting the urge to cover her ears and then deciding there was no point and clapping her hands over them. Tiberius, who had been at a much closer range, was reeling from the attack, and Daphne realized that she actually would have to yell (loudly) to be heard over the noise. "Tib! Keep going! Shoot bubbles into its mouth if you can!" She couldn't be sure if Tiberius had heard her, but she was fairly certain he had, either that or he was irritated and had the same idea. Taking careful aim, he shot more bubbles, these ones aimed right for the troublesome noisemaker's face.

Whismur easily took in the bubbles into its mouth. The screech was cut off in a millisecond, whismur bending over to choke out the water stuck in its very delicate airpipe. At the moment, whismur couldn't move, and was stuck on the floor. Jonothan whispered to his whismur from a distance, asking if it was ok.

Daphne frowned; her intent had not been to drown the creature, but, well, a battle was a battle, and unless they wanted to be dealing with earsplitting auditory torture again, they'd take this opportunity now that they had it. "Quickly, Tiberius," she urged, voice back to normal volume now (though her ears were still ringing). "Again." Shaking himself a bit, the horsea moved, flitting around behind whismur and shooting for its back, hoping to perhaps knock it over or at the very least just keep wearing away at its defenses while he had the opportunity.

Whismur finally regained its voice, but was soon knocked over by more bubbles hitting it's back. Jonothan and the judge covered their already protected ears and back away a few feet. Whismur got back up, tears streaming from its eyes, its mouth slowing opening. When sound did come out, it was at least ten times worse than the legend of the banshee. Its screech was more loud and shrill than powerful, enough to disorient horsea.

“Nngh.” Daphne was certain her ears were going to start bleeding soon if this kept up. She was well ready to direct Tiberius to use the same trick, but looking over to him, she was able to determine that he was far too disoriented to aim that well, and he was listing slightly to the right despite trying to stay in one place. Come on, Daphne, think. There has to be some way we can hit it… Chewing her lip, she sort of wished the arena had more features to take advantage of, though really, she supposed, perhaps its plainness could be an advantage as well. There was nothing to hide behind. “If you can’t aim, just keep moving in a circle around it!” That way, a good amount of the bubbles would still hit, even without conscious attempt at it.

Tiberius did his best to comply, but his circle was shaky, and slower than it would have been otherwise, due to his dizziness.

Again, the bubbles went into whismur’s mouth, causing it to pause and choke out the water. Everyone in the gym got a break from the screaming and could relax again, at least while whismur was still down. Jonothan knew there was nothing he could do until whismur could get up again.

The lucky shot and absence of noise were enough to help Tiberius clear his head, and at Daphne's instruction, got very close to whismur, hitting it with a close-range shot before darting away again in anticipation of possible retaliation, firing more hits at long range while he still could.

Whismur was pelted with bubbles, it had taken a lot of hits and was barely standing up. It opened it's mouth wide, but no sound came out. It's trademark move was disabled for the moment, and the little pokemon was confused and wondering what to do.

"Pound!" Jonothan called out. The little pokemon started slowly running towards horsea, limping a little bit and trying to land a hit.

Daphne considered a Smokescreen, but decided that whismur was probably battered enough that she'd rather use the time beating it before it could use that Uproar again. Not just for her, but poor Tiberius as well. Thinking quickly, she decided to improvise. Directing Tiberius to keep up a steady stream as the whismur advanced, she waited until just before the little pink pokemon got there. "Now, aim it at the ground, as hard as you can." If Tiberius thought that was an odd suggestion, he didn't hesitate, and the resulting stream propelled him upwards and over the whismur's head. "Now, fire at its back before it turns."

Whismur could barely follow horsea's movement, from the ground and in the air, it was slow in reaction. The pokemon was pelted in the back and fell to the floor, this time rather hard. It was a critical hit and brought whismur down for good.

Jonothan ran towards his pokemon and gave it a hug, a kind gesture to his baby pokemon.

Daphne defeated Jonothan!
Daphne won $500!
Tiberius gained exp!
Tiberius grew to level 8!
Tiberius learned Leer!

Shaking hands with Jonothan, Daphne moved away from the arena a distance and rummaged around in her bag for one of her potions. “Here we go, Tib,” she murmured, spraying the little blue pokemon with the miracle cure. Trilling low in his throat, Tiberius nudged her hand, and she smiled, patting his head softly. “One more, buddy, and then we’ll have our first badge.” A training gym’s badge, sure, but it would still be an accomplishment for them.

Approaching the leader, a young woman, Daph nodded, slightly perturbed by the wide grin she was wearing. Nevertheless, she was not an easily-intimidated soul, really, possibly just because fear took an awful lot of effort.

Taillow, huh...?she noted, watching the bird pokemon flap around the room. Fast, and a full moveset, too. Better be careful. Daphne tossed Tiberius back onto the field, and, recently healed from his potion and with a brand-new move to try out, he was enthusiastic and ready to go.

The taillow was flying around the room in circles, eyeing Tiberius whenever it got the opportunity. It slowly landed on the floor and waited for the match to begin. When the judge lifted up the flags, it shot right back up in the air, working out the plan that Sandra had made for it. Its small body was glowing blue, using Focus Energy to get its body pumped.

The move made taillow stay still for a small moment in the air, since it required concentration

Now that she had another status option, Daphne was trying to determine which was smarter to use first. In the end, she decided to lower taillow's already-pitiful defense stat. "Tiberius, Leer." In the moment when taillow froze, the horsea locked eyes with its airborne opponent and stared it down, what were once rather harmless red eyes now flinty and frightening. Hopefully, such a look would give the focused pokemon pause before it tried to attack.

Taillow almost fell to the ground, losing it's concentration in flying after getting the stink eye from horsea. It regained its composure and began flying again in circles. This time it was getting closer and closer to horsea, moving in for a peck. Tailow's movements and dives were a lot like the movements of a pokemon going in for its prey. Swift, deadly and accurate.

“All right, Tib, now, Smokescreen,” Daphne directed, watching the predatory circling pattern and not finding it too much to her liking. Tiberius shot the smokescreen into the air, clouding the area with a thick black fog. All the same, taillow had been close enough already for the first peck to hit, and Tib scooted backwards, disappearing into his own smokescreen. “Don’t stay put, buddy. Guerilla tactics again,” she urged, meaning of course the pattern of rapid movement followed by spurts of bubble. It would be a little harder to hit taillow because of its ability to fly, but luckily Bubble had something of a range.

Taillow easily dodged the bubbles, seeing as they were directly in front of its eyes. When the smokescreen came up, taillow flew around the smoggy area, gaining speed in its circular movement. The smoke was clouding up into a twister until taillow broke from its pattern and flew away from it; dispersing the smoke.

The taillow was now going in for the exposed horsea, another peck aiming right at it.

Daphne’s fingers drummed an uneasy rhythm on the side of her leg, and she tried to think this through. If its speed was enough to disperse Tib’s smoke, she needed to slow it down. The one method she had of doing that was Bubble, but taillow was just fast enough that that would also be difficult. “Wait for it, Tiberius. Make sure it commits to a peck before you hit again, and make your shot count.” Thus instructed, the horsea stilled, presenting an easy target for the bird, but why bother trying to dodge? It hardly ever worked without a way of lowering accuracy, after all, and his defense was pretty good.

As soon as taillow swept in, Tiberius tipped backwards onto the ground, giving himself precious inches more distance, and shot bubbles as soon as taillow’s belly was right above him.

Taillow's feet were caught in the bubbles, sustaining damage and making taillow wince in pain. But the attack did not hinder taillow’s flight and it continued to fly, fast and sure around horsea. It went in for a peck again, and hit horsea right in the stomach, an eye for eye.

Now tailow was gaining height, flying into the sky and nose-diving down into the gym, its own version of quick attack.

The peck hurt, but luckily Tiberius’s belly was covered in smooth scales, which offered him some protection from the bird pokemon’s beak. As he got up though, Daphne noticed that taillow was sweeping straight in for a quick attack, gaining speed from his linear trajectory. Well, that meant the chances of it swerving were low. “Smokescreen.” Tiberius shot the attack, but this time instead of expecting it to stay for long, Tib adjusted his position only enough to avoid the Quick Attack. “Now, Bubble everywhere.” A stream of them shot right into the air, mingling with the smokescreen so that an attempt at dispersal would hit taillow several times with bubbles.

Taillow saw his scenario, bubbles or sketchy smoke screenscreen. The plan was to quick attack the opponents pokemon to hell, but like most battles, the plan never worked out perfectly. And this impingement caused for taillow to make a choice.

"Pick the smokescreen!" Sandra called out to taillow. Taillow did and dived right into the black smoke, getting hit with a few bubbles as well. Taillow couldn't land yet, because of his foot injury and the dangers of a bird pokemon walking was too big. So instead it was cruising into the air, looking for horsea in the thick screen.

Because the smokescreen was his own, Tiberius had no such trouble, and spent the next while moving around, peppering the inside of the screen with more bubbles. “Okay, Tiberius, enough of that. Take a direct shot.” Nodding (or at least approximating it as well as a horsea could), Tiberius located taillow and took another aimed right for it before ducking into cover again.

Taillow was hit with a sniper bubble attack, and looked around to see where horsea was hiding. Finding the effort fruitless, taillow flew out and began the process of dispersing the smoke screen, flying blindingly fast in circles and then breaking from the pattern.

When the smokescreen cleared, taillow dived in for the exposed horsea, another Peck attack. The bubbles that were sprayed out both inside and outside of the smokescreen had hit taillow in the break up process. The bubbles did not pop or simply fall down like hard objects, they lightly floated down instead, like feathers. Taillow's wings were hurt in the process, slightly wet and throwing off taillow's overall balance in the air.

But that didn't stop taillow from aiming straight at horsea.

Seeing the effect of dampened feathers on taillow’s flight pattern, Daphne changed tacks. “Tiberius, soak it as much as you can.” The intrepid little seahorse took a deep breath, firing another burst at the incoming bird pokemon. If he had to take a hit, well, he was relatively durable, but he wouldn’t last forever.

For the most part, taillow dodged all the bubbles, at least directly. If it was clearly visible and avoidable, the speedy bird could fly completely out of range from the attack. But the bubbles that were the furthermost from the left side of its dodging arc, were caught in the pressure of the speeding taillow, and popped. The water from the bubbles completely dampened taillow’s left wing and caused it to fall on the ground.

“While it’s down, Bubble again. Get close,” Daphne instructed, and Tiberius didn’t have to go too far, and he went in to hit taillow at point-blank range with more bubbles, moving for the left side to keep the imbalance and make it worse if at all possible. Daphne really didn’t want the bird taking off once more.

The bird was pelted by bubbles and couldn't stand on its feet because of a bubble attack from before that didn't heal well. Birds and their weak feet. Sandra shook her head slowly. Taillow was technically down for the count, but it was too stubborn to give up. So instead, it rolled its body on the floor over to horsea, hoping to peck it when it got close enough.

Daphne looked at the judge to see if he was going to call the match, but it appeared that as long as taillow wanted to keep moving, the match continued. Grimacing, she asked Tiberius to move away (and he was now much faster than poor taillow), and give it one last shot. Hopefully it would be enough to send the bird down for the count.

Tailow tried to dodge the bubbles, but in the end, a rolling body wasn't the most nimble. The attack wasn't enough to destroy tailow, just enough to stop him from moving.

"Congratulations! You beat Novice Mortlocke! Here is your Dojo badge!" Sandra cheered happily, withdrawing her taillow and handing Daphne an orange badge that was outlined like a mini dojo, much like the dojo they were in now.

Daphne won $1000!
Tiberius gained exp!

“Phew.” With a wide yawn, Daphne recalled Tiberius (he was fine for now, but she’d pay one last visit to the Pokemon Center before heading out), and accepted her badge with a smile. That had felt surprisingly good, all things considered. She’d never been one who wanted or needed anything to show for the things she did, but there was no denying a strange satisfaction to the completion of the training Gym. It was something she’d have to think about a bit more.

Lex was still at it though, so she made her way back to the front and sat herself down against one of the entrance pillars, facing in towards the battle arena areas. From here, she’d be able to keep track of what was happening, maybe get a few ideas for motion drawings. She expected the battle to come between Macho and taillow would be really interesting to watch. Actually... rummaging around in her (somehow still completely organized) bag, she pulled out her notebook- unlined, since her writing was neat and small enough that lines weren't necessary- and a pencil. Couldn't hurt to be ready, right? Balancing the pad on her crossed legs, she laid the pencil atop it and pinned her new badge to one of the backpack straps with a wistful expression. This was... fun? Yes, I think so.

It was getting dark, she could see through a window. Daphne wondered if there would be any interesting Dark-types about this evening. She was rather fond of those, among others.

Route 4

"Char!" Dante popped his head out from a nearby bush holding a round blue berry. Alice knelt down and rubbed his head, "Good job, Dante!" She took the berry from his hand and examined it trying to remember what effect it had, "Ah, this is a Oran Berry. It's a healing berry, this'll come in handy!" Dante grinned, obviously proud of himself for finding it.

Alice stood up and was surprised to realize it was already getting dark. She looked back towards the city; it was too far to go back now and the dock was still a ways away. "I guess our best bet is to set up camp here, how about it?" Dante let out a small yawn and nodded. The two searched for a good, comfortable spot to set up camp "Char!" Chimchar pointed to a low grass area under a tree a ways off the main road, Alice grinned with a nod "Perfect!"

After successfully setting up camp Alice sat down on the sheet and looked up at the sky, dotted with bright stars. "I could get used to this; sleeping under the stars every night like this." She looked over to her side to see Dante was already asleep, his tail fire out. "It was a long day." She spoke under her breath and placed him inside the tent; not feeling tired yet she decided to continue to stargaze outside. She was sure most of her classmates were under this starry sky with her, giving her a somewhat comforting feel.

I bet dad's looking up at the sky too. She thought happily to herself, hugging her body for protection against the cool night air. It would be a long while till she would return home, not wanting to return till she succeeded in her goal.

Adinitium Ferry Dock

Jessica turned back slightly, eyeing Dom as he ran toward her. It appeared they were no longer alone. A girl with an Eevee was approaching, but too far away to tell exactly who it was yet, as well as who appeared to be... Raine maybe? Jessica sighed and kept on toward the dock and the ferry, then waited for the others after she arrived. "What do you want?" she asked Dom bluntly.

Before he could complete his answer, and old man emerged from a small shack by the dock. "Oh, thank you!" he called out, shuffling forward slowly towards the group. After a good deal of waiting for the wrinkled man to make his way over to them, he finally took Dom's hand, then Jessica's, shaking each with as fervor as the elderly man could muster. "I saw what you two did. I thought that little punk would never go away, but you two scared him off! Heehee! Here, please, take these! It's the least I can offer you!" He gave each of them a Pokéball and 1000 Pokédollars.

Dom received a Pokéball!

Dom received 1000 Pokédollars!

"Now, the four of you want on this here ferry, right? It'll be 50 Pokédollars, then feel free to hop on board. Watch your step!"

Bianca, Raine, Dom, and Jessica each paid the fee and headed onto the boat with the old ferry man. "We're off!"

As the ferry churned and set into motion, Jessica returned her attention to Dom with the injured Zubat in his arms. "Did you want to talk to me?" she asked again.

Adinitium Pokemon Center

Mike awoke in the middle of the night, a blanket wrapped around him. He yawned a bit and looked out the window next to him. It was easy to tell that dusk had already past and the moon was shown, full in the sky. He could swear in saw a pokemon flying in the sky, passing in front of the moon as it continued its flight. The trainer then stood up and went straight to the large, glass window giving anyone looking in a view at any injuried pokemon forced in there. But toninght there was only one; the Houndour.

With all the equipment around it gone, Mike could get a good view of the injuried pokemon. She seemed to be looking better but, now the trainer could actually see the Houndour's ribs, proving that Nurse Joy was right when she said that it hadn't eaten for days. There were also plenly of cuts and bruises, proving once agin, to the trainer's dismay, that the nurse had been right. Mike sighed as he watched the pokemon breathe. At first he had hoped to catch it after it reecovered but, it was now clear that, it probably would take months to get better. And although he would have waited days, weeks even, he couldn't spare months.

Doug woke up as Mike looked away from the glass. The pokemon grunted as he looked at his trainer. Mike, used to the grunts replied, "Yea, she's better then we found her but, its clear she wasn't in a good shape to start with." At that, the Aron seemed to get sad, probably because it was hoping that they would have found a new traveling companion in the Houndour. Mike sat down next to his pokemon. "I know buddy. I wanted to catch her too."

The Aron, then jump off its chair and went straight towards the door. Mike got up and followed it, a bit confused. Doug jumped up and tried to open the door but when that didn't work, he looked up at his trainer, hoping he would get the message. It took his trainer a moment before he understood and opened it. Once the door was open, the pokemon headed right out of the pokemon center, with his trainer right behind him.

As they left the center, Doug contiued marching towards Route 4 and Mike finally understood what his pokemon wanted it to do; catch a wild pokemon. The trainer ran up next to his Aron, smiling and nodded at it. Doug got the message and ran out of the city, full of determination, with Mike right behind, an unused poke' ball in his hand.

Route 4

"Sure I'll unroll your sleeping-bag since you'll get the wood." Sorence said with a polite smile as he watched Derek walk into the woods. He finished his task quickly and looked out into the now black sky. The stars glimmered like the eyes of trainners on their first day of their journey. He continued to run his hand through the grass, letting his body fall into a relaxed state. While Derek was gone though, he began to feel a bit lonley, so to make himself feel less that way, he decided that it was time for his Pokemon to meet each other.

"Magby and Combee, come on out." He said as he tossed the two Pokeballs while he was sitting. A white light flashed and the two Pokemon stood there staring at each other. Magby tilted its head. He had no idea wether to fight it or be friends to it. "Magby, it's OK. Combee is our new friend." Magby gave a big grin and extended its hand to the bee Pokemon. Combee shivered as the arm came close to it, and its bashful nature kicked in. He backed away and flew behind Sorence. Sorence looked upon the Pokemon, reached behind him, and brought it so it was facing him. "Combee, I know we all just met, but you have to get used to us. Magby is now your buddy, your pal, your friend." Combee, now being forced to turn around to look at Magby, gave the fire Pokemon a shy smile. Magby returned the smile with another smile, which was quickly followed up by a sneeze. The sneeze though was Smog that was quickly engulfed by Ember (Somg inside, Ember outside). It shot from Magby's tube mouth like a javilin, striking Combee in the face. The bee Pokemon was now scared enough of Magby to quickly return to his Pokeball by himself. He bashed the honey like structure of a body against the ball and the red engulfed him.

Sorence gave a mixed expression look at Magby. He was surprised about the move combo, disapointed at him for hitting
Magby, and sad that his new friend was too shy to be around them at the moment. "Magby, you kno-" Sorence interupted by Derek who crashed through the brush, screaming, GETEMOFFGETEMOFFGETEMOFF! Sorence looked upon Derek
with fear, seeing how he was covered with some bug Pokemon he couldn't make out. After a few moments of him
screaming rocking back and forth, Derek just rolled up into a ball. "Derek..." Sorence said with the up-most care. "Are you
OK? Do I need to get someone for you?" But he was unheard. After a few minutes of staring, Magby and himself jumped
when he spoke to them. "Oh, so you were covered in Spinaraks. I'm sorry I couldn't help you. I had no idea what was
going on." As he watched Derek set up the fire, he asked if Blitz could light the fire. Sorence stared at Magby who stared
back at him. "You want that name Magby?" Sorence asked the Pokemon who nodded in approval. "So your new name is
Blitz from now on Magby." Blitz gave a big grin, proud of his new name. He then walked over to the pit and exhaled an
ember attack, lighting the sticks into a decent fire. "Thanks Derek for the help."

Sorence the tossed Combee out of his Pokeball again. Combee, now freaking out about a Pokemon and a person, just
passed out on the spot. Sorence leaned over Combee and asked Derek, "Why don't you send Jet out? He should meet the
new member of our team. He then gave Derek a curious look and asked him, "Have you decided on what you'regoing to do in the future?"

Adinitium Ferry Dock

Dom settled himself on the floor of the ferry, leaning against the railing. The battle had taken a lot out of him mentally. As he looked forward, Leafy sidled up beside him and laid down leaning against him, obviously tired from the days events, "Chiiik..." She cooed before closing her eyes. Dom petted Leafy on the for a moment whispering, "You did great. Rest now, when we get across we'll visit the PokeCenter, you'll be just like a new Leafy," Dom say with a sad smile. That cowardly bastard did it all. They had to get stronger so that they could fight people like that. Dom glanced over at Jessica. Even stronger than her. "Zubat?" The form in his lap called weakly, "Even you. We'll get your right as rain too." Dom said.

With the darkness upon them, Dom felt nervous, yet because there were three others on the Ferry with him, Jessica, Bianca, and Raine, he wasn't petrified. He'd be able to make it to the PokeCenter. He'd make it rather quickly too.

"What happened here?" Raine had asked earlier.

Dom shrugged from where he sat, "A bastard dressed in all black tried to dissuade me from riding the ferry," Dom said the word dripping with venom. "Stupid me decided that I've already come too far and decided, 'Oh hey, he can't be that tough' " Dom said, "Wrong. Because of me, Ducklett is knocked out, Leafy got hurt, and this Zubat is injured as well... Damn it. Maybe I should have turned around," Dom said reflecting... No, no he wouldn't have. He'd push through just like he did. But that still didn't mean he wished it would have went better. Dom shook his head, "Too late now. I just have to get the PokeCenter and heal these kids," Dom said, smile creeping back, "Chik," Leafy peeped in agreement. She could do with some Leafy time in the PokeCenter. "Bat..." The Zubat whimpered, causing Dom to pet the creature trying to sooth it.

"Did you want to talk to me?" Jessica asked.

Dom looked up at the woman, "I just didn't want you to leave on the Ferry without me. I don't think I could have trekked through the route again with everyone hurt like this," Not to mention it was dark enough to curl Dom's skin. Though, he wouldn't let anyone know that... "Oh, and thanks for stepping in when you did. I don't think Leafy could have made it, even if she's a tough little cookie.." Dom said, playing with Leafy's leaf.

Bianca looked at Leafy with sad eyes and knelt down to stroke her. "The poor pokemon..." Bianca brought out Cherubi's poke'ball and threw it up. She watched as Cherubi appeared in a bright flash and put the pokeball back. "Che- Oh that's right, I forgot to name you. How about I name you.... Cerise? French for Cherry?" Cherubi nodded and smiled at her new name. Bianca turned her attention to the other trainers. "I was thinking about having Cerise use Morning Sun on Dom's pokemon.... But 'm not sure if it would work since it's usually a self-inflected move. Do you think I should give it a shot? It might not heal them completely since it's night... But it would help them feel better." Bianca continued to pet Leafy. "But it won't work....." Bianca sighed. "How long until we reach the next city?" Bianca asked the ferry driver.

Route 4, Just Outside Adinitium City

As Sean and his partner made their way down Route 4 in the darkness, the more nocturnal Pokémon were really becoming active. The forest was full of odd sounds, turning the silence of the night into a sort of strange wild Pokémon symphony.

As Seanapillar inched forward along the ground, he noticed something else moving at his level. Nudging Sean, the little worm gestured in the direction of the slithering creature. A pair of yellow eyes peered out from the dark bushes... and an Ekans's head emerged from the darkness!

A level 6 Ekans appeared!

Sean grimaced slightly, he was hoping for something he could poison. Still, his recent victory at the battle club helped fuel his smirk, “We can do this Seanapillar...” He said softly. Sean took his Pokedex out of his pants to quickly check the stats of the ekans. However, his opponent was getting impatient, and leered at them both. Its eyes cut through them and a slight fear in them cut their defense. “Okay,” He whispered to his wurmple, “It's main asset is its attack, so if we can slow it down and dodge it, we'll be fine.” Seanapillar nodded and jumped down into the grass.

“Use string shot!” Sean called, and the worm complied by shooting the goop toward the ekans.

The snake Pokémon was covered in a mess of stingy goop from the Wurmple's mouth, slowing its attempt to strike the worm. After a bit of struggling, it gave up trying to reach the bug and shot a poison barb at Wurmple with poison sting. It was mostly just to keep the little bug away as it tried to free itself from String Shot - which was difficult without any arms.

“Good job!” Sean began to praise his pokemon, but stopped as the stinger stuck itself into the wurmple's pink body. Sean was worried, knowing how useful poison could be. Hopefully the low level would keep the wurmple from getting affected by the venom.

“Alright Seanapillar,” Sean said, shaking off the worry for now, “Use Tackle while it's still caught up!”

Seanapillar hit Ekans with a full body Tackle, sending it reeling back... but also freeing it from the String Shot on the ground. Though it was still sticky and slow, Ekans had regained mobility, and used the chance to Wrap the Wurmple before it could recover from its previous attack.

"Damnit..." Sean grumbled, trying to think of a way out of this. Tackle was useless right now if he couldn't get any momentum. and what use was string shot if the two were already stuck together... '"Wait..." An idea was formulating in his head, and a confident smirk appeared on his lips.

"Seanapillar! Use string shot again!" For a fraction of a second, confusion entered the wurmple's eyes, but he did as he was told and shot to goop at the ekans. While being squeezed, Seanapillar too was caught up in the mess and didn't seem to be able to escape too easily from his opponent. "Great! Now use poison sting, but keep it in your tail!" Seanapillar complied and stuck the stinger into the ekans's body. Because it was still connected to the wurmple's body, there was a larger dose of poison administered to the victim. Even if it wasn't very effective, the chances of poisoning the enemy were increased.

All caught up in the String Shot, the Ekans loosened its grip on Wurmple, struggling wildly against the threads that had nearly completely enveloped it at such close range and for the extended period of time. Relatively unhurt by Poison Sting, but still annoyed by Seanapillar's tail, the Ekans thrashed even more wildly, releasing the Wurmple entirely and focusing all of its energy into escaping the String Shot.

The plan worked well enough, although the attack didn't seem to do much at all, at least he got his wurmple unwrapped, "Go ahead and chew yourself out now Seanapillar!" The wurmple's jaws had special saliva that dissolved the spring shot so it wouldn't get stuck to itself. Slowly, but surely, Seanapillar wriggled itself free of its self-induced brace with the enemy and crawled a few feet away. "Alright!' Sean said, "Use tackle again!" it's pretty much all we can do at this point, then an idea struck him, "Wait! Aim yourself so that your stinger hits it instead of your horn!" This should do some critical damage while the ekans was busy with the string.

With Ekans all tied up (literally) with the sticky, silky threads, Wurmple had ample time to position itself just so and hit Ekans's weak spot for maximum damage. A critical hit, the Tackle sent the wrapped up Ekans flying. The snake stopped its writhing, completely fatigued.

The wild Ekans fainted!

Sean defeated the wild Ekans!

Seanapillar gained EXP!

Seanapillar grew to level 7!

Sean jumped into the air and raced to retrieve his friend, “You were awesome Seanapillar!” He said, holding his slightly furry friend. He didn't even look too injured, he figured the two would be able to continue on for a little longer before deciding on whether or not to camp or return to the pokecenter. He set the Wurmple on the ground for him to follow and started to head off into the woods, but stopped, when he noticed that his friend was following him, “Are you okay?” Sean asked as he stooped down to look at the creature, who was shaking slightly and beginning to glow.

Seanapillar became cloaked in harsh white light, energy swirling around him, and his body began to change!

Seanapillar is evolving!

When the light faded, a light cocoon sat in Wurmple's place, staring up at Sean with one eye.

Image

Congratulations! Seanapillar evolved into Silcoon!

Seanapillar learned Harden!

Sean stared blankly for a second or so back at the Silcoon, jaw slightly slack. He picked up the creature, who was quite smooth and hard, but still warm.

“Oh my god...” Sean said softly, “Oh my god, oh my god, oh my god!” His face lit up and his voice crescendoed as he starting jumping up and down with his pokemon in his arms. “Oh my god!” He repeated, his voice climbing octaves as easily as stairs. He stopped and looked at his new Silcoon for a second, but all he could muster was another, “Oh my god!”

Seanapillar almost got worried that his trainer would be upset with him for evolving until Sean began his freak out. The one red eye lit up in the same way that it had as a wurmple, making Sean's heart melt. “Come on, Seanapillar,” I'm keeping the name, he'll always be my Seanapillar, “lets go off and find some more pokemon.” He set the cocoon on his shoulder, which emitted some string shot from its body to hold itself still while his trainer walked.

Their three eyes were almost glowing in the night with happiness as they set off into the tall grass.

Adinitium City
Training Gym
Lex Silver

Image
Silver smiled and nodded as he received his refreshed Pokémon. If he was feeling this good, Macho must have been feeling excellent. He wasn't that hurt to begin with, but you never knew what you were going to face in a gym. The trainers there weren't just your average bunch, they had been chosen for a reason. One of the first things they teach you in the Pokémon academy is that there is no such thing as a weak Pokémon. No matter how cuddly and cute it may seem, every one of them were capable of great feats and the simplest move can be your downfall... it was this thought that urged Silver to get machop healed and the same thought that was in his mind as he was headed back to the gym.

"Wonder how Daphne is doing?" he thought.

The two had passed each other as Silver was entering the center, but they only exchanged smiles and continued on. He took that as a sign she was doing well. She was great trainer, he was happy that he wasn't the only with good luck. There were also a few other trainers scurrying around, but he made no effort to acknowledge them. He had made only two friends in Adinitium: one was in a pokeball and the other was Daphne. Silver preferred it that way, no matter how sad it may seem.

It was getting dark now; the sun had all but disappeared from the sky. By now though, Silver had reentered the gym and was face-to-face with the third trainer. The first thing he noticed was the very large, thick, black earmuffs he was wearing, even the referee had on a pair.
"What could those be for?" Silver sighed as the thought continued to puzzle him. "I don't know, but shit is getting serious..." His opponent's name was Jonothan and the Pokémon he chose was Whismur: a small, purple little thing of which he knew nothing about. He was going to check his pokedex, but the referee was eager to start the battle.

Silver held his pokeball out, Summoning Macho. The Pokémon materialized flexing his muscles; you could tell he was feeling renewed and invigorated, ready to battle. Once again he was given the chance to attack first. Macho inhaled and exhaled slowly as a faint glow wrapped itself around the machop. He was using Focus Energy, a great tactic to start the match off with.

Soon, they would both find out what those earmuffs were for.
"Uproar!" Jonothan called out, covering his already protected ears. The small Pokémon starting hopping about and then opened its mouth widely, letting out a very large scream. The scream resembled something like a terrified woman, yet five times worse. Whismur moved closer and closer to machop, its horrid screech getting louder by the second.

Macho flinched at the sound of Whismur's uproar, but it was bearable. The next move was obvious: shut that purple thing up!
"Leer!" Silver yelled out. Even if the two locked eyes for just a second, the fear induced would cause it to stop.

Whismur looked at machop's cold eyes and instantly stopped. The Pokémon had quieted, or at least as close as whismur was going to get to silence. It cried a few tears, starting into a small groan of fear. The Pokémon wailed, afraid and upset. The wail turned into the second round of uproar, except now, this cry had a higher pitch.

"Pound!" Jonothan called out to whismur.

The pain was becoming intolerable, but luckily for them the Pokémon was coming closer. Once it did, Macho charged and hit the Whismur with a barrage of kicks. Whismur stopped it's wailing, sending it sliding across the floor. Small tears escaped its sad eyes and Jonothan held his ears tightly. The judge of the match himself had earmuffs and began backing away from the battle arena. When the Pokémon got up, beat and still sad, it screamed. A nearby glass was shattered to pieces, freeing the water inside. The scream was worse than a banshee, and could potentially damage your ear drums. Whismur was angry now. Its mouth was wide open and dangerous approaching machop, disorienting it with its screech.

It was unbearable; Silver hugged his ears tightly as Macho fell to his knees, trying to endure the pain. If this attack kept up any longer, it would be the end for them.
"We have to end this now, Macho; go get em!" Getting to its feet, Macho ran at the Pokémon dashing from side to side, before dropping into a sliding low kick. Whismur flew into a wall and stopped moving. The attacks on it were too much for its small body and the judge lifted the flags; ending the battle. "Challenging trainer wins!" Jonothan returned his whismur and quietly nodded at Lex, acknowledging defeat.

Alex defeated Trainer Jonothan!

Lex won $500!

Macho gained EXP!

Macho grew to level 9!

Macho sure was a champ: two days of rough battles and each time he was able to walk away with the win. He was a fighter through and through, which deeply inspired Silver. Strength, Strong Will, Endurance: those were just a few qualities the small Pokémon had, that Silver was devoid of. It still surprised him that such a great Pokémon was willing to follow him. Since the first day he got Macho, he wondered just why the Pokémon had done so. Maybe it was their relationship... they weren't best friends or master and servant; they were just trainer and Pokémon: they had an understanding, a mutual respect of each other. Together they thrived from a symbiotic relationship, using each other for the talents the other possessed. Silver was oblivious to what he was bringing to the table, but Macho saw it and that was all that mattered.

After the battle, Silver had no choice but to return to the Pokémon center. Nurse Joy was just as happy to see them again, despite the always unfortunate reason. At least it would be the last time for the night, because it was late, Silver wouldn't face the Gym Leader until the next day. A fact that Daphne was gloating about, she had won her badge and he was happy for her. He would get his tomorrow; until then, they would explore the city before turning in.

Someone had already taken care of the ferry bullies; at least that’s what he had overheard someone saying at the Pokémon center. That left his evening plans wide open and there were places he wanted to go and things he wanted to do. The first place he was going to was the performance club. All of the time he had spent in the city, he had never been, mostly because as a trainer he was more focused on battling. But his curiosity was getting the better of him now. He wondered just what went on in there and it was time he found out.
