Introduction

Current Season: Mid to late Autumn

Serenia is a Kingdom controlling the mid and north eastern section of the continent, thousands of miles worth of land, and out into the sea to embrace the string of north eastern islands. Ruled by a singular Queen, Briena Erani Skysong, this land is lush, vibrant, tended with love and care by it's people. The Serenian elves are a vibrant strain of their kind, as varied as the wildflowers of spring. No one alike save for rare twins. The land is ripe with beauty, shining with the love of its Queen. Mild, beautiful winters, idyllic summers, this paradise is as wild and free as it is beautiful. But is there trouble in paradise?

Argohahn. Stalwart, enduring, ravaged by a mad king, and just beginning to truly see hope again under the relatively new reign of King Arghoram Brightsoul, Argohahn, the human kingdom, inhabits the southeastern and eastern southern edge of the continent of Calraida. Overseeing nearly as many miles as Serenia, Argohahn is a land in which the ravages of time leave a sort of grim beauty; left in the hard lines in faces of old men who have seen much, and in the wind torn eastern steppes and tangled dark mountain lining forests crawling with bandits. Villages are being rebuilt, fields ravaged by weeds and raiding parties being plowed and seeing new sprouts; the hope of a return to happiness. Will the following years see prosperous times of full bellies and laughing children? And will the reign of Arghoram be heralded and sung as the new golden era?

Lycaernus. Wild, untamed, savage as the species that make these lands their home. This is the land of the Lycans, taking up the rest of the continent. Dark mist shrouded forests encompass the western regions, from the imposing mountains at the heart of the continent to the western coastline, while a desert holds dominion to the south, and wild, unforgiving tundra, coldest on the continent, claims the northern edge of the continent. The lands are harsh, unforgiving, dangerous to outsiders. Home not only to Lycans, but Vampires among other dangerous creatures, it is not a land for the faint of heart.
However, that is not to say that there isn't light and love within this land. Archenraih, the Lycan city, rests at the heart of this harsh land, nestled safely within thick forest, and guarded by Elites. Commerce is surprisingly healthy here, the small square in the middle of town. Beyond that, the Sanctuary stands proudly at the center of a bright, lush valley, ripe orchards surrounding the massive obelisk of meteor rock. Within is the sanctuary, home to the current leaders of Lycaernus, Aliath and Aleyana. Wise, powerful, gentle. They are the embodiment of what the true nature of Lycans is.

One road in, one road out. Are you brave enough to walk that road?

Crescent Sable City. A place of neutrality, this city was built by Lycans and Dwarves together. Set within a mountain, and encompassing a crescent shaped bay, this port city is a bustling center of trade, immigration, and excitement. Races and species of all kinds and origins can be seen here, and the docks and bay are a sight to behold, with ships and boats from everywhere imaginable on the planet to be seen. The waters are bright sapphire, and clean as any mountain spring. The city extends into a massive coastal mountain, and a tunnel leads down into the underground kingdoms and deeper.

The Kingdom of Dwai'rwin is the underground home of the dwarves. Short, stocky, bearded and happy to take on any brawl, these underground dwellers are as comfortable in pitch dark as they are in bright sunlight. They are some of the best smiths in the land, on it or under it, and they have an affinity for the stone and the metals and gems that hide within. The caves and tunnels they occupy are carved to suit their tastes, grand passageways and an underground city brimming with dwellings. Torches and luminescent fungi are the only sources of light once you turn a corner.

The Kingdom of Mal'erith: Beyond the deep underground borders of the Dwarven kingdom, the Drow reign supreme. Elitist in culture, this world is a place where only the strongest survive, and often, that means being willing to kill your own kind in order to maintain your life. It's pitch black, save for where phosphorescent plants and fungi grow, but this race of Elves is well accustomed to life in total darkness. Creatures never seen above ground make their homes in the underground habitats.

Across The Sea

Aedillon: A continental Elven kingdom to the north of Calraida, Aedillon is a landscape that demands respect. Cold, ruthless, icy, a tundra where once lush land grew. Its people are as chilly and pale as the land. The Aedillonian strain of Elves carries high value on the arcane arts, and has a diminished connection with the land, part of the reason the land they rule is so cold and harsh. Pale, tall, slender, lithe, they are a Patriarchal society, led by a king and no other. They are allies of Serenia, but is everything as it seems?

He smiled. The change seemed to ripple through him almost disarmingly, giving the tall, stoic stranger a suddenly unexpected friendliness, even a softness. His tail even wagged, which surprised her though she considered that it really shouldn’t have—he was, she knew now, more wolf than human—and Gaele’s own smile brightened as he did. The answer he supplied her with, odd as it was, made her laugh with a quick, amused chuckle. Our gratefulness? Surely if he’d given the anklet to someone else, there was no telling what results he would have gotten. Maybe I’m a bad person to test that on, the human woman thought silently, taking into consideration her bias for jewelry and finery. But she’d gotten a new piece of jewelry out of it, something that she likely wouldn’t have thought to purchase for herself, so there really wasn’t much to complain about.

From the way he spoke, it sounded as if him being received by the queen was going to be equal to something like a gift for his kingdom, though Gaele for the life of her couldn’t comprehend it. Politics had never really been her strong suit, and the horrible conditions in Argohahn had left her with a sour taste about everything related to it. Nako sounded much more involved and even more knowledgeable, but it was still not quite enough to overcome her dislike of the political subject. But the people, however, did intrigue her, as did the not-Lycan strolling along beside her. “Why shouldn’t they be grateful if things here go well?” she asked, seeing no reason for him to receive anything but a positive reception if he was able to complete his mission in full. Wasn’t that the whole point of missions, to complete them and return home successful?

“If they’re ungrateful, you shouldn’t do anymore things for them,” she added matter-of-factly, though even as she reflected on her words Gaele saw a hole in her logic. There weren’t always times when there was an opportunity to say no. She’d seen as much back home inside the Argohahnian kingdom under the rule of their mad king. Disliking the route her mind had taken, feeling her mood dampen even so gently brushing upon the topic, she tried again to change it. “Well…regardless, I am grateful,” the human clarified, repeating herself but feeling it necessary. “You didn’t have to get me anything, but you did. And without asking for any repayment. It was very generous of you.” She smiled again and resisted the urge to lift her skirts as she walked so that she could see the anklet glittering against her ankle with each step, but even here in the quiet before the gate it felt too open and exposed of a place for it. She’d have to wait until she was inside somewhere. Until I’m in my room. Wonder what that will be like…

Gaele took his answer with a laugh that quickly died off. If anything the human had received the anklet with what he took for hidden fascination and excitement. It would be a far different reaction overseas should food and material start flowing across to Amaksar. Codependency in every aspect and some would think, Nako included, that a country must rely on itself. And if need be wither away and did as fruit does on a vine. But no, the message tube in his horse's saddlebag carried only a temporarily solution to the war ravaged land. The wolfs new friend however was still curious, and her questions struck a sensitive enough nerve that caused him to stop in the pairs trek even as she thanked him for the anklet. His ice blue eyes hardened slightly at the thought. There would be no punishment from voicing such an opinion here, fangs flashing as he growled the very reason as to why the royalty who sent him shouldn't be grateful. "Because Gaele, the ones who ordered me weren't the ones to send their troops north where the war was. They weren't the ones to see their friends lined up in the snow after a battle to see all the faces that are now buried." Nako paused. Remembering the real reason as to why he was forced to come here. Remembering the awful truth as to why he couldn't fail. "Because they have my family." It was spoken with a whisper. The only sounds he heard were his paws clicking on the stone of the street and the hoofs of his horse. If he could he'd give the damn plea tonight to save himself another night in their city he would. To be reminded that those who ruled didn't always care for the ones under them as he stepped ever closer to the keep.

Unaware of the effect her words had on Nako, Gaele’s attention turned back toward the castle gates that continued to throw long shadows in their direction. The whole setting felt slightly more ominous at this hour, and the guards currently posted, dressed in the formal military attire of the Serenian kingdom, were far more intimidating than they needed to be. In the back of her mind, she heard again the promise she’d made to the queen, of securing work for herself that was respectable and decent. She was close, but had there been anything offered to her that would convince these people of her almost-employment? The human woman avoided looking at any one guard directly, trying not to attract any more attention than she already was traveling straight for the castle gates, and tried making it less obvious by returning her attention to the wolf man traveling with her.

It was then she realized he’d stopped. He was a few paces behind, and there was a new darkness that warped his expression into something cold, something very near frightening. A little seed of cold fear bloomed in her gut, and her uneasy expression fell even more worrisome. Did I say something? It wasn’t exactly out of character for her to be a little blunt with her words, but he hadn’t exactly struck her as the type to get hung up on rules or conventions. He’d bought her, a perfect stranger, jewelry, after all. Gaele wrung her hands again, swallowing back her nerves as she prepared herself to offer an apology, and said nothing as his growling voice explained the conditions around his mission. It didn’t quite make as much sense as it could have, but she managed to catch the gist of it. Whoever was in charge remained lofty and above everything, moving everyone else about as insignificant, replaceable pawns. And they had his family.

Shock caused her mouth to gape, and as she realized it Gaele closed it quietly, words entirely abandoning her. What was there to say? There wasn’t anything she could say that would make what happened remotely better, nothing she could say to encourage or harden him to his plight. She didn’t know anything regarding to conditions to this underhanded means of control, and it fueled a sudden burst of anger in her. She’d lived through enough hardships back in Argohahn to know how helpless and defeated one could feel when someone abused their power, but even in this she recognized she’d never had it hit so close to home. Nako walked again, and silently Gaele fell into step beside him, still lost in this new revelation.

At length she made herself speak. Glancing up at him, studying him for a moment in the evening light, she said somberly, “I’m sorry, Nako.” There was a pause as she looked away, sharply shook her head a little at how unfair the events of life could be, and added heatedly under her breath, “It shouldn’t be that way.” She felt something of the same rebellious spirit that had provoked her into joining her father in banditry flare up again, but more uselessly this time. She didn’t know the first thing of the conditions in Nako’s land, was likely of no help with her minimal skills, and had too much going for her here to abandon it so quickly. She sighed, trying to extinguish that spark of rebellion in her, and let the rest of her angered thoughts go unsaid. “I really hope this meeting goes well for you,” she remarked, her tone carrying lingering traces of unrest but overall sincere. She’d managed to fall into a very lucky seat here in Serenia. Maybe the same could happen for him and his kingdom.

It was amusing the things that cheered up the man. The deluge seemed to bolster his good spirits, even as it soaked the earth, and the laugh brought a slight, bemused grin to her face as she tugged the hood of her cloak over her head, though her hair was already soaked through, the color darkened to a bloody red. Her head tilted as she listened to his comments about the weather, nodding. They were all true, even if Redfire didn't quite agree with the rain being the best, and she gave his side a light nudge as she saw the horse's rain soaked ears flatten to his poll, reminding him that biting the man was out of the question.

A soft chuckle answered the query Patch made about the tavern. "Ah, yes. When the owner... perhaps you'd best experience it first hand." As he threw his arm out and sent water scattering from his cloak, Redfire tossed his head, snorting and stopping as both his and the Queen's ears caught the faint clink of metal hitting the ground. Briena shifted in her seat, leaning forward to peer through the rain at the ground, and the rain splattering mud of the road. Something metal.

After a long moment, she slid from the saddle, dropping a shield over the seat to repel the rain and bent to examine it, then straightened to look at Patch. "Ah... Patch. Did you happen to check your own clothes for your card?" She bent, picking up the dagger that was distinctly one of his own and offering it to him for his examination, eyes gaining a twinkle of growing mirth.

Ar'vil walked into the Inn where he most frequently spent his time--"The Dancing Fox Inn", they called it. It wasn't necessarily the best out of the Inns in the city (and in fact, it was pretty sloppy work on the part of whoever built it--if you took out one, maybe two of the supports the whole building would collapse), but Ar'vil had the time by now to see a wide variety of Crescent Sable's pub life, and out of everything, The Dancing Fox was by far the one that combined cheapness with even the vaguest amount of respect for its customers.

Though, "The Dancing Fox". Really. What on earth gave the people who built it that idea? It was such a ridiculous name. He had to rack his brains just to remember what some of it meant.

He sat down in his usual place, several paces to the left of some of the quietest drunks in the Inn (a place he'd taken some small amount of pride in finding) and waited for the innkeep or one of his women to serve him.

Eventually, someone came over. "What'll it be?" They said.

His reply was simple--there wasn't much else to say. "Beer."

The service came pretty quick, and he took a drink.

Night - Around ten

The sounds of a lute being played wafted through the streets of the city, gentle and melodic the sounds floated through the air. Following the sound was simple enough, easier still was finding the one playing the lute. The tall man, covered mostly by the baggy cloak, sat upon a large box, humming along to himself while playing a song on his lute. A bucket sat on the ground in front of him a few feet, indicating that the man was playing for money used in this area of the world, which further gave off the impression he wasn't from around here. His Amber eyes opened and he looked out upon the small crowd gathering around him, and he smiled, standing. He was tall, taller than most human men and some Elven men. His boots added an extra inch or so of height. At his side lay a stunningly beautiful white canine. She appeared to be a Husky of some sort, but was so large that she had to be a wolf of some kind.

"My name is Seamus, everyone, and I'm going to play you an old song taught to me by a fisherman while I was in a town about a year back or so....I hope you like it. If you know the words, go ahead and sing along if you wish." there was a slight Irish accent to his baritone voice, which was rich and smooth. He sat back down and cleared his throat, quickly tuning his lute to the right key and then smiling, straightening his back and taking in a deep breath as he began to play and then subsequently, sing.

In the still of the night
I held you, held you tight
'Cause I love, love you so
Promise I'll never let you go
In the still of the night

He gave a smile and small nod to a man who walked up and dropped a few coins into his bucket, a few others followed suit and he continued...

I remember that night in May
The stars were bright above
I'll hope and I'll pray
To keep your precious love

Well before the light
Hold me again with all of your might
In the still of the night
(In the still of the night)
So before the light
Hold me again with all of your might
In the still of the night
(In the still of the night)
In the still of the night

As his voice floated out for the finale of the song, he held the note for a good eight seconds, his fingers expertly free-styling a soothing, jovial melody on the lute the whole time. His foot tapped to keep time, the bells attached to the strap around his boot jingling and adding another welcome addition to his singing. Some people swayed back and forth, others attempted to gently sing along with him, but he was the one in the lead role, and as such, let him sing to his heart's content, his eyes closed as he sang, truly enjoying himself. A small group became a small crowd of about twenty to thirty people standing around him as he played. His ears would very slightly visibly twitch towards the sound of the money in the bucket, and his large companion, Snow, continued to lay beside him, the tired eyes of a well-exercised dog looking out over the people around her Master, looking for any potential threats that she might need to take care of before her Master's own sharp reflexes were able to do so.

The crowd clapped and cheered when he was done, and Seamus stood and took a small bow; smiling and chuckling at the response he got. The crowd requested another, and while the Lycan thought of another song to sing, tuning his lute and strumming along gently, he had some casual banter with the crowd, told a few witty jokes, and got to know a little bit more about where he was in general without giving away too much of his own personal info.

Night - Around Nine-Ten

The night had well and truly fallen by the time the Queen rode through the main gates of the City, returned from a rather amusing ‘adventure’ with Patch. That he’d been silly enough to lose one of his cards in his own cloak and believe that someone had stolen the enchanted card made her smile, even as she pushed still damp hair off her forehead. The storm had been quite the deluge, and far off in the horizon, distant flickers of lightning and gentle rumbles of thunder still broke the night as the storm went on its way.

Redfire’s hooves clipped neatly over the stone street as they made their way up the gentle incline of the Queen’s Way toward the castle, the horse’s ears forward and flicking from time to time. Most had gone to their beds by this time, but up ahead, there were signs of life in the main city courtyard that served as the main market square for the city. It was where most of the caravans gathered to hawk their wares; from strings of pearls from the Ardaithan Isles, to the finest silks from Aedillon, shipped across the sea from Serenia’s ally. The brief thought of Aedillon brought a frown to her face as she wondered what her guardian was up to just now. Probably drunk.

A soft snort left the Queen, causing one of Redfire’s ears to flick back curiously. “Nothing, my friend. Just wondering where Titan’s off to. I don’t feel him in the Hall, or in the Dusty Traveler.” Which meant he was probably off sulking. Her mount snorted in distaste at the mention of the Aedillonian; the horses weren’t best fond of the man after he’d struck Assassin’s Flight on the head with the pommel of his sword. He’d never done it again, after the Queen had gone into that terrifying, chilling fury and sent him off, but they sensed that he didn’t view them as anything more than mundane beasts of burden, and they didn’t appreciate the slight.

In any case, the unfamiliar voice singing up ahead brought her thoughts to the here and now, and she shifted in the saddle as Redfire brought them into the square. She gave an almost imperceptible twitch of the reins, seat shifting back slightly, and Redfire slowed to a stop just beyond the small crowd of listeners.

Horse and woman listened quietly from over the citizens’ heads, but those fathomless sapphire eyes took in the details of this unfamiliar bard and his companion. The amber eyes, while not the most complete give-away of this male’s lineage, were a good hint of the Lycan that wore his skin so easily. Pointed ears could have hinted at him being elven, but the glimpses of sharp canines flashed in a smile from time to time told otherwise. For her, she needn’t have seen him to know what he was; his scent was unmistakable, even in this form, as she shifted her senses to the much stronger ones of a wolf and breathed in delicately.

Wildness lurked under the masculinity of the human form. Tame compared to Kanixillo, who took his true form regularly. The wolf, meanwhile, was of the mundane species, none of her scent or feel hinting at any elemental power. Even a Dire Peasant or Dire Rogue carried some kind of elemental scent. Intelligent, certainly, as all wolves were. But not magical.

Her head cocked slightly as she listened, the streetlamp flames glistening off rich red hair long since unbound by her cloak hood, the need for the hood long gone with the storm. Redfire shifted beneath her, a hoof scraping on the cobbles, and she slid from the saddle, vanishing the saddle and bridle and sending the stallion on his way with a nod and stroke of the neck. Redfire tossed his exotic head and turned, trotting up the street to the castle, and to his night time feed and hay. He’d get the care he needed from the Hands at the stable, before he was turned out to graze under the stars.

The Queen, meanwhile, leaned against a streetlamp pole, watching the bard make conversation, considering whether she wanted to approach or merely head up to the castle herself to find a meal and her bed. However, those that had turned their attention away from the stranger spotted their Queen, and instead of dropping to their knees in bowing and scraping, smiled excitedly and ushered the royal toward the crowd, laughter and excitement lending brightness to the night air. “Come, Lady, please! Sing for us?” Ah how perplexing her people were likely to appear to outsiders who knew little of Serenian culture, or at least what it had become over the time of her living here in the city.

Briena chuckled ruefully, knowing that her bed would have to wait a while, and stepped away from her prop, striding gracefully through the gathered people and regarding the taller man with a cocked head. He wasn’t much taller than herself in his skin, she judged, which likely meant he’d gain a foot of height when he shifted; it was usually that way for a Lycan.

Finally, she spoke, her lilted, smooth Serenian accent carrying far less burr than the faint northern Argohahnian roll he carried… Argohahnian? Hm. Her voice was rich, warm, with the lightest huskiness carrying a hint of amusement at her impromptu stage arrival. “Might I join you for a song or two, wanderer?” Polite, open to his refusal or welcome. For all that she was the Queen of the wealthiest faction on the continent, she treated him as though he were her equal.

Her clothing didn’t exactly scream ‘I am a Queen’ either. Dressed for the road in clothing similar to his own, though it was of exquisite quality upon close inspection, she wore earthen tones, muted. Her scent carried the smells of settled travel dust, the horse she’d been riding, saddle leather, rain, and her own natural scent; warm, feminine, and reminiscent of lavender fields, wild jasmine, and sweet summer hay drying in the sun. It was altogether an inviting first impression of the Queen, and gave little hint to her more refined life in the castle.

Seamus turned to the female who was pushed in his direction, arm moving out in a sort of flourish as he snapped his fingers and gave a small bow, using the opportunity to take in her scent before standing straight. The snap of his fingers, while perhaps just part of the flourish to some, was to command Snow to lay back down, as the Wolf had begun to stand, eyeing the female who appeared before her master as if ready to attack. The Wolf obeyed, and laid back down, huffing softly as her Master commanded.

Seamus straightened his back, amber colored eyes taking in her physical form from the feet up, while he wasn't star-struck, he did find her attractive to say the least. Rugged yet Elegant, he liked that combination in a woman, found it intriguing. His eyes, though friendly on the surface, had a predatory, enigmatic gaze to them as he stared at her form, taking it all in for the first time as though he'd be reporting her to a police sketch artist later. A smile tugged at his lips when she asked if she could join him in singing, and he gave a little chuckle as he plucked at a few strings on his Lute, the sounds chirping through the air lightly.

"The company of a beautiful woman is always welcome in my presence, more-so if she wants t'make sweet music together!" he spoke, the accent of his really coming through now in his words. Whether or not something else was hidden in the meaning of his words was for him and anyone old enough to understand to figure out. He meant nothing by it, though, and simply meant what he said. He loved music, and it seemed that she did as well, so they may as well collaborate.

His fingers deftly began to play the Lute again, a few idle notes as he sat back down and cleared his throat. "So then, lass...." he started as he turned his predatory Amber eyes towards her, seeming to see through her and search her own intentions. "What will y'be singin' for us?" he asked, licking his lips to moisten them, dry from his journey here. He plucked one more note on his lute before reaching into his cloak, and then withdrawing a flute which he then proceeded to play a few silly notes on, warming up the wood-wind instrument a bit before smiling. "And of course, what would you rather sing with? Me and my Lute? Or perhaps my flute; either way you're getting my bells." he had a sort of teasing tone to his voice, but meant nothing by it, tapping his foot so that the bells jingled playfully as well.

As the bard swept a bow, fingers snapping at the wolf, the Queen dipped her head, both to the Lycan, and to his wolf, giving each equal respect, straightening as he did, head cocking to the side in an almost bird-like fashion as she noted the more pronounced accent showing through. Rather peculiar that a Lycan would carry such a clear Argohahnian accent; Lycaernus and Argohahn had never been the most… peacefully related factions. Curiosity warred with a natural respect for his boundaries; after all, a smart male of any race who traveled as much as his clothes hinted he might would likely keep his cards close to his breast and reveal little of himself.

A rueful smile answered his own as his remark brought several raised brows among the gathered, but flew right over the Queen’s head when it came to possible innuendo. Perceptive as the Queen was, there were still points of her life where she was, quite simply put, oblivious as a stone wall. She understood courting, yes, but the courtship she had undergone was of dual nature. Her hand, and the throne of King of the wealthiest faction on the continent. Thus, it was political. Something she understood clearly. She had never had the chance to have her parents sit her down and explain what actual love was, and despite her grandfather’s experience, he had fallen woefully short in his own awkward explanation to a twenty-year-old woman who had far more interesting thoughts on her mind; such as learning more about strategy.

“My people demand it.” The smile broke into a grin as he strummed a few experimental notes on the lute. He showed skill, and had been showing it when she’d arrived. She had no doubt of his ability, but that slight tilt of her head returned as he withdrew the flute, mouth quirking in amusement at the notes he produced. Her eyes lifted briefly to the sky in thought, before she stepped away, calling in a stringed instrument and drawing the bow across the strings, bringing a hush to the listening city folk as the sound of the strings sang out.

“Perhaps you know this one? You seem well traveled.” She played a short stanza of the song she had in mind on the strings, brows lifting as she looked to him for answer.

Seamus' ears twitched upon hearing the stanza of the song she played, and for a moment he paused, his fingers finding their way to the strings of the lute again before strumming it once, and properly tuning it by ear with a smile. "Aye, I know that one." he said to her. He cleared his throat as he continued to tune the Lute, growling softly to himself.

"You'll have t'excuse me a second....It's been a while...." he said after a few more minutes. He looked up with his eyes and hummed to himself while his fingers plucked away at the strings while he tuned them, never quite happy with the the way they sounded before after about a minute, he licked his lips and gave the lute another strum, and smiled, nodding to the woman.

With that he began to play, closing his eyes and letting the music flow through his body and out through his fingers to the stringed instrument in his lap, his foot tapping along, the bells jingling with the beat, adding yet another dimension to the music. He began to hum as well, assisting in filling out the sound with his deeper rich voice while he played the higher notes on his Lute. After a while, he was in the groove, so to speak, and he opened his eyes, watching faces of the crowd. A sort of wonder, awe, and relaxation graced their faces, and it filled him with joy to know he was brightening their nights.

She smiled briefly as he confirmed that he knew the song, head dipping and she graced the strings of the instrument she held, ensuring that it was indeed tuned as she had vanished it before, then waited patiently as he fiddled with his lute, head cocking as he nodded then began playing. Her own part began with the first strums of his lute strings, feet taking up the rhythm and the steps, soon dancing with sinuous grace, her own instrument coming into play after the opening with his lute.

She kept time and step with the music, turning on each flourish of the notes, well aware of the rapture of those watching. The crowd that was already rapt with attention, the men sat forward and watching both performers with fascination, both for the delicate notes of the lute, the singing of the violin, and the fluid movements of their queen. Her own voice melded smoothly with the music, another layer of the musical spell.

A voice that held a rich huskiness in normal speaking tones, gained a sensuous allure when raised in song, and never faltered with the movement of her steps, the warm soprano soothing over the ears of all present. There were no words to the song, merely a simple application of voice, rising and falling with the notes, until the end of the song, where the tempo calmed, and her voice became a soft hum, fathomless sapphires meeting the eyes of each individual as the steps ended in a graceful spin, the slow rotation bringing her to face her fellow performer in a slight bow, a few pesky tendrils of that red hair falling into her face.

She straightened, giving her head a light flick to clear her vision, fathomless sapphires meeting amber briefly before she inquired, conversationally, ”I don’t believe I caught your name, wanderer. I am Briena.” She didn’t state her title, nor her surname; if he’d traveled far, and been in the lands long enough, she had no doubt that the name of the Queen had been mentioned quite a few times, especially if he’d had enough conversation with those gathered. Nor was the inquiry as to his name a command to give it; she left the choice of openness or reservation up to him.

A few more coins graced his bucket while the duo performed for the crowd, and as the crowd applauded, he stood and bowed. Snow also stood, but promptly sat on her haunches out of trained habit, as she was supposed to when Seamus stood. He turned to Briena as she introduced herself. He smiled, and bowed in response, a simple nod of the head.

"Seamus, a traveler from far away." he introduced himself.

His fingers grazed the strings of his lute softly. "Would you care to play another song?" he asked. "Or perhaps you know of a good place to eat, myself and my companion, Snow, would love a hearty meal; we've not had a full stomach for some time." he explained to her, smiling softly. He knew of her, but her rank meant very little to him; she was another woman, sure she had power here, but with him, again, it mattered little. His demeanor, with how nonchalant he was with her, and his accent, a sort of gruff Irish, hinted at his past as a Lycan Slave. He'd want little to do with Authority and its power over him in his life.

The land of the Lycans; savage, harsh, unforgiving land long the western side of the continent. Enter at your own risk, human, for you are nothing more than intelligent prey in these woods.

Southeast Quarter | Skysong City

Southeast Quarter | Skysong City by BrienaSkysong

While no part of the city is really a slum of any kind, the Southeast Quarter is what you would call the poorman's quarter. The streets are well tended cobble, and nature is ever present among the rows of houses.

The Queen's Office

The Queen's Office by BrienaSkysong

A room lined with shelves of books, leather bound and smelling of great age and wisdom. Scrolls and shiefs of parchment are arranged neatly along one shelf at the back wall. There is a window, large and ornate, allowing light to filter through.

The Kitchens

The Kitchens by BrienaSkysong

A room filled with mouthwatering smells, laughter, and bustling staff. Almost always warm to hot, the cooks here work to make meals for the inhabitants of the castle, and the Royal family they serve. However, the Queen is readily happy to join in cooking.

The Queen's Garden

The Queen's Garden by BrienaSkysong

So many different varieties of roses and lilies fill the beds of this quaint, hedge enclosed garden, that to list them all would take at least half a roll of parchment. In the warmer months, this area is filled with bright colors and heady, floral perfume

Skysong City | Capital of Kingdom Of Serenia

Serenia's largest city, and the capital city of the kingdom, Skysong City boasts countless streets, courtyards; from the silver and gold veined marble main Street of Queens Way, to the tiny alleys and winding streets, this place is lively, and vibrant.

Crescent Sable City

A bustling, diverse city, set on the upper southwestern coast, nestled against a massive mountain, and surrounded by Lycaernus' expansive territory. Often called the Immigration Capital of Calraida.

Northbound Caravan Trade Route

The main Trade route north from Skysong City, this hard packed, rutted road is in remarkably good repair, and spans from the main gates of the city to the southern edge of Shore's Haven on the coast, 400 miles (or two to four days' ride) to the north.

The Stables

An expansive, grand structure filled with lines of stalls, the sweet scents of horses, hay, saddle leather, horse breath and sweat, and the sounds of stable hands whistling cheerfully.

Trinkets And Treasures' Fine Jewelry

Located on the Queens' Way in Skysong City, this Jewelry shop is owned by one Kanixillo, a Lycan and friend of the Queen. Baubles and trinkets glitter in the displays, and the owner's friendly grin welcomes all who enter.

Shore's Haven City

A Port City three days' ride to the north of Skysong City, this City takes up two miles worth of the Northern Coast. The docks bustle with activity, sailors, dock workers, and fishermen.

The Training Field

Vast, pockmarked with hills, holes, and scattered patches of forest, this training field stretches for over a mile away from the back of the castle, and sees rigorous training exercises and a mock war a few times per season.

The Audience Hall | Skysong Castle

Grand, welcoming, sparkling with clear wealth and importance, this is the room in which audiences are held with the Queen of Serenia; where grievances are made known, thanks are given, and choices are made.

The Queen's Garden

So many different varieties of roses and lilies fill the beds of this quaint, hedge enclosed garden, that to list them all would take at least half a roll of parchment. In the warmer months, this area is filled with bright colors and heady, floral perfume

Serenia

Serenia is a Kingdom controlling the mid and north eastern section of the continent, thousands of miles worth of land, and out into the sea to embrace the string of north eastern islands. Ruled by a singular Queen, Briena Erani Skysong.

The Dusty Traveler Inn and Tavern

Holding the premier location for such an establishment, The Dusty Traveler is located on the main trade square courtyard of the City, bordering the illustrious Queen's Way. Step right in, weary wanderer, get a drink, a meal, and rest your dusty boots.

Barracks Of The Serenian Army

For being a barracks, this large building is quite comfortable. Meant mainly for the guards of Skysong City, this place nonetheless houses other soldiers without a house of their own, and a guarded door leads down, deep into the Skysong City Prison.

Skysong City Prison | Second Level

The worse your deeds get, the deeper into the earth you descend. The Second level is for repeat offenders; thieves that refuse to kick the habit, and the like. The 'accommodations' are less comfortable, the cells lonelier, the food less palatable.

The Screaming Swordsman Inn and Tavern

Set fifty miles north of Skysong City on the northbound Trade Route, The Screaming Swordsman comes by it's name honestly.

Skysong City Prison | First Level

The first level of the Prison. Here is where thieves wait to be punished or pardoned. It's relatively comfortable, for a jail, underground, and yet it's not comfortable enough to make it worth the rule breaking.

The Grazing Fields

Wide, rolling pastures, expanding well into the forest, lush with grass and peppered with with peacefully grazing equines, some bearing wings. Foals frolic and dance in the spring, while their mothers keep a watchful eye on them.

Planet Of Galeia | Aedillon

A continental Elven kingdom two weeks see voyage to the north of Calraida, Aedillon is a landscape that demands respect. Cold, ruthless, icy, a tundra where once lush land grew. Its people are as chilly and pale as the land.

Riverside Traders's Port

Beyond the walls of Skysong City, along the northeastern edge, a river flows out of the west to the east. Along this river, backed up against the wall of the city and extending a mile westward, where it meets with the main gates, is a trader's port.

Skysong Orchard

Peacefully serene, the air laden with the sweetness of combined scents, the Orchard is a vast place, where every fruit tree imaginable grows and yields a sweet, juicy bounty of apples, pears, apricots, cherries; you name it, this orchard probably has it.

A room filled with mouthwatering smells, laughter, and bustling staff. Almost always warm to hot, the cooks here work to make meals for the inhabitants of the castle, and the Royal family they serve. However, the Queen is readily happy to join in cooking.

The Queen's Office
